Books “Read” in 2019
I am going to rank these by how much i enjoyed them vs. any actual literary quality. often well written books aren’t always the most entertaining books.
Note: i listen to many of these books at work, which is why i am able to go through so many of them in a year.
List from 2017 List from 2018
------- My Favs of the Year ----
Novels from The First Law:
Best Served Cold (#1), The Heroes(#3), Red Country(#4), Sharp Ends(#5).
A Little Hatred (#2) (Age of Madness, sequel to The First Law)
I read “The First Law Trilogy” about a year or two ago and finally got around to reading the rest of the books, just in time for a new series taking place in the same world to start up (Age of Madness) and now i am waiting like everybody else for the next two books to come out in 2020 and 2021. A Little Hatred shouldn’t be read as a stand alone, a lot of what goes on is dependent mainly on knowledge from the first trilogy and in The Heroes, then bits and pieces from Best Served Cold and Red Country. So much of your enjoyment of each book is based on what you’ve learned in other ones (character development or seemingly useless information being not so useless later).
Age of Legend (Book 4,  Legend of the First Empire)
This is more-or-less an “aftermath” book where the main characters are still reeling about what happened in the previous book and are trying to make plans for what they are going to do next. I still like the characters and the world/setting it takes place in.
House of Assassins (Saga of the Forgotten Warrior, Book 2)
I’ve been waiting for the next book in this series to come out the second i finished the first book in the series. It is one of those Science fiction in the disguise of Fantasy settings and I am on the edge of my seat waiting to see how that plot/revelation comes out (I am certain that the location the story takes place is Earth, more specifically around Asia/India, but in a post-invasion apocalypse setting where nobody remembers anything prior to the invasion). I also really like how much of a badass Ashok is... i have a thing for emotionally stunted badass characters, especially when their flaws are held up to a mirror and have real consequences.
R. R. Haywood’s Worldship Humility & Extinct (Extracted, Book 3)
I love the way Haywood writes characters and dialog. I was at-first iffy about WSH, but was won over after i warmed up to the new characters.
Shades of Magic Trilogy (A Darker Shade of Magic, A Gathering of Shadows, A Conjuring of Shadows)
Solid multi-verse and magic system world. Well-written characters, some minor nitpicks on plot points, but can be easily ignored. LGBTQ rep, the gays don’t stay buried.
“Don’t you have enough [knives]?” “You can never have too many.” [me, every time: LOL]
One of the few times when a character deserves a redemption arc, doesn’t really get one, dies, and i am perfectly fine with it because it is done well.
Assassin’s Fate (Fitz and the Fool, Book 3)
I read this one in book-book form, but i already knew most of the emotionally painful parts of the book by spoiling it to myself when it first came out a couple years ago. The main appeal is the inner monologues of the two main characters, even if like 50% of this trilogy is basically spending weeks/months trying to go from Point A to Point B, when many other books would have glossed over the details of travel.. but you can really feel the stress as they dwell in their thoughts and struggles.
Madeline Miller’s The Song of Achilles & Circe
Re-Imagining of the Iliad and The Odyssey. Focusing not on the characters of Achilles or Odysseus, but on Petroclus (Achilles’ lover) and Circe the sea nymph witch that Odysseus had an affair and child with.
The Spear of the Stars (Cycle of Galand, Book 5)
Still love Dante and Bleys... This is where they really get into the meat of world building and solving the mysteries of the Arawn Cycle (the book/bible) and peel back the layers of their reality.
Dust (Silo Book 3)
A great ending to a good series, it answers whether or not humanity can or has survived what had caused them to be locked away in the silos.
Blackthorn and Grim (Dreamer’s Pool, Tower of Thorns, Den of Wolves)
I like the premise of the books, the two main characters first seeking out revenge, but end up wanting to become better people due to magic shenanigans.... One part Fantasy, One Part Mystery, One Part Lovestory.
The Dispatcher (Audible Free Book)
I want a whole series based off this novella. It is John Scalzi so he can write a good story. I had previously read Android’s Dream by him, which it didn’t make it into my top-10 that year, but was still decent, even if the subject matter was a bit gross... The Dispatcher world is a Sci-Fi Noir, not quite Cyberpunk, where people don’t die by anything other than natural causes. The Dispatcher’s job is to kill people before something goes does wrong and the person “resets” to when they where safe and sound.
---- this is the “Above Average” Zone ----
All the Pretty Horses & Blood Meridian: Or the Evening Redness in the West
The master of bleak and depressing fiction. if regular Dark Fiction isn’t enough for you.... there is Cormac McCarthy books. Get use to the “purple prose” that fills up pages with no dialog.
The Golem and the Jinni
Supernatural world of the far past dealing with Edwardian New York and Immigration. It not only is a “fish out of water” story of the two main characters trying to fit in with society but they are among communities that are also new to America and trying to find their own place in the world. There are love subplots but most of those kind of fizzle out.
The Axe and the Throne: Bounds of Redemption Vol. 1.
“Discount First Law” book... it is lacking the dark humor that made TFL series far more entertaining.  This was also the book that was prefaced by warning people about how grim and dark the setting was... Hahahaha. I still found it entertaining none the less, and hope the rest would show up on audible soon.
Black Snow, White Crow (Audible Free Book)
Another one of those short stories that should have a larger saga to its name. Fantasy Industrial Punk. It has the whole equality role reversal thing going on, it isn’t done quite as well as Left Hand of Darkness (but that book leaned onto the boring side of things).
Stephen King’s IT, Pet Semetary, and Carrie
It’s Stephen King. Classic King. Not much else to say.
Watership Down
Depressing Rabbit Book. Though I did like all the stories and mythology the rabbits had.
Bloody Acquisitions (Fred the Vampire Accountant, Book 3)
A series that is always fun to listen to. I wish the audio books were cheaper because they are rather short.
Lethal White (Cormoran Strike, Book 4)
shuddup, i don’t care if it is Rowling... i have a low-key crush on Cormoran.... he just hits that big-burly tragic-backstory man-shaped soft-spot of mine. These stories are also her “for adults” writings so...  expect more racism and garbage values.
The Eye of the World (Book 1, Wheel of Time)
Classic set up to a long running series, though i am reluctant to go further as the middling books in this series are said to drag out the story too much.... It’s not as self-centered as Wizard’s First Rule and the characters are more relatable and stick to their fantasy tropes. This is the “mold” that other modern fantasy try to subvert by going “darker and edgier.”
The Exorcist
If you like the movie, read the book. There is a lot of back story that the movie wasn’t able to adapt.
---- This is the “AVERAGE, but Still Good”  Zone ---
The Iliad and The Odyssey
Classics. I am still on the hunt for an unabridged version of Jason and the Argonauts story. I also have Virgil’s Aeneid in my wishlist to get too soon.
Phillipa Gregory’s Plantagonate Novels (The Lady of the Rivers, The Red Queen, White Queen, The Kingmaker’s Daughter)
Sometimes it is like reading the same book 5x in a row. other times you end up not liking the previous protagonist in a book you just finished reading because of how the current protagonist sees them from their POV.
Return of the King (Lord of the Rings, Book 3)
Read the other books last year and didn’t get around to this one for a few months.
Something Wicked This Way Comes
Fuck... I’m a janitor... why can’t i afford a house?   If you liked Stephen King’s “IT” go back and read this book.
Alien Franchise Dramatizations: Alien: Sea of Sorrows, Alien: The Cold Forge (Audible Free Book) Alien III (Audible Free Book)
I don’t mind that they all are done with a full cast. Though often I end up wanting to find the actual book and listen to them with just one narrator and descriptions.
The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe (Narnia, Book 1)
I would like to get the rest of the books in this series, but for books that are only 5-7 hours long they want 20$ a book for them. It needs to go into an omnibus.
Stephen Fry’s Victorian Secrets (Audible Free Book)
It’s Stephen Fry... he’s funny and a good narrator.
Wizard’s First Rule (Book 1, Sword of Truth)
I don’t like Richard. He started off alright, but even before he got tortured 2/3rds into the book, i was starting to dislike his personality.  Other than that, the side characters and world are solid, but it was like taking an R-rated movie and cutting it down for TV. There is somethings that are vaguely described when i am use to harder fiction like ASoIaF, The First Law, Dresden, and McCarthy books actually describing those things.
Halloween (2018, movie novel)
Like I said when i first read the book, it would’ve benefited by a second re-write before being published. But, i like the movie and so I liked the book.
Don Quixote
Another classic read. I did find it hilarious that the Author spent a good chunk of the second book complaining about Fanfiction of his own book... in the 1600′s.
The Princess Diarist
I listened this book instead of going to see TROS. worth it.
Smoke Gets in Your eyes: And other Lessons from the Crematorium
Non-Fiction, If you want to know the ins and outs of the funeral business and get told in an informative yet non-clinical way with lots of tidbits and history facts tossed in as well as a semi-autobiographical account of the Author’s life.
--- These Books are “Alright” ---
Frank L. Baum’s Wizard of Oz books
I ligit got into an argument with a 70yo man in a comic book shop about how Canon the other Oz books were post Baum’s death. He was looking for Oz comic books and I brought up reading the first 14 books, and he’s like “There’s over 100 of them” and i was all “but all those are written by somebody else.” and he got all “they are still canon...”
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
If you want to know about the In//cel ideology in a classic literary form, this fits the bill. So much man pain.
A Christmas Carol (Tim Curry) (Audible Free Book)
Tim Curry, guys.....
The Poetic Edda (Norse God Mythology)
I listened this book twice. I bought two Edda books thinking I’d get some extra content, but no... same book just different production teams and readers. Returned the one with the worst translation.
Treasure Island (Audible Free Book, dramatization)
I need to read the actual book sometime, but i did like the cast and thought they did a good job.
Wally Roux, Quantum Mechanic (Audible Free Book)
A YA coming of age story about diversity and acceptance... with wacky science fiction.
Carmilla (Audible Free Book, dramatization)
The vampire before Dracula. Victorian Lesbian love story.
Even Tree Nymphs get the Blues (Audible Free Book)
A novella from one of those “love on the Bayou” romance series with supernatural creatures. Could practically take place in the same world of either True Blood, Dresden, or Fred the Vampire Accountant.
Mystwick School of Musicraft (Audible Free Book)
Harry Potter lite. For 10yo girls.
A Grown-up’s Guide to Dinosaurs (Audible Free Book)
I like dinosaurs.
Rivals! Frenemies Who Changed the World (Audible Free Book, Dramatization)
Interesting way on telling us about the Fossil Wars and Puma vs. Adidas.
True-Crime from Audible: Body of Proof (Audible Free Book),   Midnight Son (Audible Free Book), The Demon Next Door (Audible Free Book), Killer By Nature (Audible Free Book)
Why is True-Crime or YA fiction the only halfway-decent things Audible is giving us? But yeah, these are basically the type of reporting that the two journalists from Halloween were trying to do. Where they go around and gather up information about semi-famous cases and present it in a Podcast-like format.
---- Meh... ---
Camp Red Moon (Audible Free Book)
Would’ve been better if they were actually written by R. L. Stein.
More Bedtime Stories for Cynics (Audible Free Book)
No... half of these aren’t written very well.
The Darkwater Bride (Audible Free Book, Dramatization)
The setting is nice, but it is far too .... Soap Opera Dramatic.
Junk (Audible Free Book)
A cross between Alien Invasion and Zombie outbreak, read by John Waters and written as if it was a bad version of a Philip K. Dick Novel.
Rip Off!! (Audible Free Book)
Most of them are duds and boring. I don’t even remember half of them without having to look them up. The two that stood out the most for me where the “Other Darren/Bewitched” and the “Dark and Stormy Night” stories, the rest were rather garbled.
--- Garbage... ---
Dodge and Twist (Audible Free Book, Dramatization)
No, you are not being edgy or kool.
Unread:
Siege Tactics (Spells, Swords, & Stealth. Book 4)
Triumphant (Genesis Fleet, Book 3)
Earthsea (Tehanu and Tales from Earthsea, i am going to re-listen to the first three before i get to these)
Into the Wilds (Warriors, Book 1)
Pout Neuf (Audible Free Book)
House of Teeth (Audible Free Book)
Viva Durant and the Secret of the Silver Buttons (Audible Free Book)
The Other Boleyn Girl (Phillipa Gregory)

This file contains a list of novels and stories which contain one or more Artificial Intelligence (AI) characters.  Most of characters whose intelligence places a title on this list are effected or affected through the use of hardware, software or genetic alteration (rarely).  Additions and corrections would be most appreciated as the list compiler <Garet Sheppard> has not read all of the works listed here - or even a significant portion, and will probably never have a chance to do so. My thanks to Dan Bloch and Robert Stanley for suggestions, ideasand editing.

expanded definitions:
All of the following should be able to pass the Turing test,  and should be/have been (at the minimum in their original forms) products of human or alien intelligence.  "Standard" definitions of intelligence apply.
androids (A) - robots in humanoid form, these can be mechanical and/or organic (_Do androids Dream of Electric Sheep_).
computer systems (C) - these range in size and type from a fair sized mini computer (_Ariel_) to an planetary
computer (_Colossus_) to a galactic network with one  single mind (_Speaker for the Dead_).
humans in computerized/program/digitized form (H) - these tend to be copies of people which only exist in computerized form - such as the hacker in (_Neuromancer_) and folks of City Memory in (_Eon_).
non-mechanical, human created intelligences (N) - beings  which have been (in most cases) genetically altered or are biological (_Blood Music_).  NOT forced evolution
other intelligences (O) - beings which are difficult to categorize: anything Berserker, tanks, books, planets,  planets (Asimov's Gaia), satellites, etc.  Where (O) is used, the particular form has also been named when known.
programs (P) - able to move independently from one computer system to another, usually created by a program(mer) _The Adolescence or P1_).
robots (R) - constitute functional and specialized beings which are mobile and are not (S) or (P).  Anything between vaguely humanoid (Dr. Who's Cybermen) and computers on wheels (R2D2) can be considered robots of the 'functional'  robot class.  'Specialized' robots are those which are geared/optimized to performing one job - they can look like  either androids (The Terminator) or functional robots (Val's  from _Pirates of the Thunder_).
ships/computer systems (S) - essentially an (A) which is only mobile in the form of a (star) ship (_Pirates of the Thunder_). However, there are cases where the (S) is essentially a well programmed (R) which is only mobile as stated (_The Number of the Beast_).
cyborgs/mechanical humans (Y) - strictly speaking these are not  AI. The definition here is that the (Y) is either (1) a human  brain in control of a computer system/star ship (_The Ship Who Sang_) where at the very least the person's brain has  been modified to contain computerized parts (_The Rapture Effect?_) (Did you ever wish that you could have a math co-processor?). (Y)'s are NOT (for the purpose of this  list) organic beings whose natural body parts have beenreplaced by mechanical ones (ie. Luke Skywalker after his forearm was severed, or bionic people). unsure/no idea (?) - just what it says, so someone PLEASE read  it and tell me what type is is and whether it belongs here.
evolved AI being (e) - usually begin as man-made devices hich then develop intelligence on their own (_Valentina_).

Things the other Glamrocks hear out of context every now and then:
"fREAKING MOGULLS-!"
"Who thought the first jungle map was a good idea~?"
"No, you can't set things on fire. Blow it up instead, stage it as an accident caused by bad fire safety regulations!"
"FOUR BALLISTICIANS-"
"Fuck you there's a cap for re-classing."
"Sometimes I agree with Haddaway- what is love?"
"You can follow me on Tumblr if you run away from Capitalism and romance like I do."
"How do you people?"
"Juliet without Romeo would be alive and healthy and well, yes, stop asking."
"It's 2038 and people still reject the idea of marriage to form alliances or gain power or wealth. People back then were smarter."
*starts snowing in the middle of October* "This is aphobia."
"It's kinda hard to relax when all you want to do is rip your heart out and take a bite out of it like an apple. Bonus points to that thought for knowing that it's a synthetic organ like the rest of your modified body and that it can be repaired with some voodoo hoodoo technology shit."
"Has anyone tried to pretend that Galeforce isn't absolutely disgustingly broken? No? Okay."
"DID SOMEBODY SAY ENEMY REINFORCEMENTS??!"
"Long hot showers... bathing under the sun, my bare back against the hard, smooth surface of rocks... yes I am a reptile, thank you for asking."
"Wonderful live ASMR session- watch me as your self-proclaimed life counselor destroy your self-esteem because you were a lazy asshole."
"Hello this is the comedy police, your pun was too cringeworthy- hands up in the air."
"All proceeds from the school bake sale will probably go to Theater Club. I'll forever remain eating four chicken nuggets off a piece of cardboard as my tray."
"I'm sorry? The hell's a vegan going to eat at a steakhouse?"
"No thoughts really, just me wanting to spend an entire weekend gorging on pastries and drinking sparkling carbonated pomegranate juice from wine glasses. I'll even flood the bathtub with bath bombs and sprinkle a few flowers in there- it'll be the perfect romantic evening... all to myself."

Gregory, I have a question. How did you first feel/react when you found out Glamrock Freddy was your older brother Michael?
Gregory: “I felt… conflicted. It explained so many things- why he was so kind to me, believed in me as much as he did, insisted on protecting me all the time… but I can tell that he has changed. Even before I awoke to a new world, he’s done everything in his power and beyond to try and make it up to me- to us, fixing mistakes he was never responsible for. We’ve hurt each other, but we’ve had the strength to push past the mistakes of the past- and I think, in the end… that’s one of the many reasons why I forgive him. He never hated me, and I never hated him… it’s a beautiful realization to come to, don't you think?”

DND Classes for FNAF Security Breach Characters (My AU, HEAVILY Fire Emblem Inspired):
Gregory: Specializes in Dark Magic, Lances, and Bows, as well as unarmed combat. High magical resistance, so he can basically yeetus deletus from faraway with spells but don’t get him too close to melee- oh, wait, just slap vantage and a high dex/avd stat on there and you’re good. Combat Art Lodestar +potential to become magic-oriented Dracoknight = ultra disrespect. Special weapons are Gungnir for his exclusive lance and Gradivus (not to be confused with that one regalia lance from Fire Emblem) for his special spell talisman, but he has to go through a lot of crap to get those weapons. Basically tears apart any enemy with high phys nullify, and even then he can just dodge anything thrown at him if its not a magical attack that he doesn’t tank. But there is still the risk of him getting oneshot, so be careful. Would be either warlock/dark mage, or monk.
Vanessa: Specializes in Light Magic +healing, Flying, Bows and Lances. Kinda low strength growths so she can’t really do damage much, but if your units are in a pickle she basically heals them, rallys them, does whatever she can so they can annihilate the enemy- and she’s pretty good at dealing some magical damage when the time calls for it. Has the HIGHEST heal and warp range out of anyone in the entire campaign, so people basically fight for who she gets to warp so they can ez cheese the battle map: “OR WE COULD USE THE WARP STAFF”. Has flying advantage like Gregory when she gets classed into Valkyrie (fanmade class) so she can do great dmg with lances due to those classes stat boosts and saves offered on rolls. Special weapons are Flame Parthia for bow and Abraxas which is Aura magic tome on steroids
Freddy: BARBARIAN/PALADIN RIGHT OFF THE BAT BC HE WANTS TO MAKE HIS SIBLINGS CRY-LAUGH THE WHOLE SESSION: Specializes in axes, authority, brawl and swords but obvi deficient at magic and flying: pretty good at cavalier, has gotten better lol- REALLY good at heavy armor, he can take physical hits like its no tomorrow. Character exclusive weapons are Dragon Claws and Ragnsalir Hauteclere for classing into paladin. If Gregory can’t shred the enemy with magic and his poke stick, cue Freddy about to spam Dragonskin special ability to stun the enemy before deleting them off the map- he’s got this covered if his little brother’s strategies fail! (comforts him afterwards lol). Special skills Guardian’s Fury, Taunt and Fighting Spirit basically equals “don’t forget about wave 2 disrespect”.

The Afton Children and their approach to solving problems:
Elizabeth/Vanessa: Prefers to take a collaborative approach to solving problems. Many different perspectives are key, and she is also happy to aid those who are struggling. Most of the time she is hot-headed and brash, preferring to follow the crowd and solve problems in the manner that is taught to her- in an organic manner. However, when pushed to desperate measures, she does take a more rational approach to problems using the conventional six-step method- as Circus Baby, she comes up with a plan to lure her brother Michael to the Scooper elaborately. As Vanessa, she reflexively solves problems as quick as possible out of procrastination tendencies, forgetfulness, and an avoidant mentality. As Vanny, she is quick and calculated in her approach, with impressive skills of circumstance manipulation (because her father is controlling her).
Michael/Glamrock Freddy: Relies on instinct and quick problem-solving, spur of the moment decision making. He worked in an environment where he needed to trust his instincts and best impulses to keep him alive for the entire duration of FNAF 1 to FNAF 6.
As Glamrock Freddy, he grows way better at working with kids- he becomes kind, patient and understanding, and fundamentally outwardly sympathetic, which substantially helps him in solving disputes between children.
Evan/Gregory: Oh, god. This kid is dangerous.
Basically, he prefers to take a masterminded, strategic and meticulously planned out and thought out approach to things. He studies his enemy, understands his circumstances, makes failsafes for failsafes, and plans counterattacks according to his enemy’s strengths and weaknesses. Decisions are not to be taken lightly in his eyes- even the smallest misstep can turn the tides of the battle in favor of him or against him. Even with his unwavering optimism, faith and idealism in his capabilities, he is tactical, understanding his enemy inside and out very quickly due to his pattern sensitivity and scary levels of intuition, and he takes many, many, MANY measures to make sure his plans are perfectly crafted and perfectly executed. For the execution part, he waits patiently for the right time, making preparations and setting everything up for a perfect, satisfying execution.
And as for the solution he seeks? The simplest, most organized, and most optimal solution- the one that, even if it hurts others, benefits him and his endeavors the most with the most pros in opposition to the cons (hence him destroying/decomissioning the hostile Glamrock animatronics to salvage their upgraded parts and upgrade Freddy to bolster his chances of escaping).
Victory tastes all the more sweeter knowing that you’ve worked your ass off to earn it, in his mind.

“Either way, rulebreaker, what you did was rude!” the sun-themed animatronic exclaimed- the spikes resembling rays faintly twitched on his head, circling around in slight annoyance. “Forcing your way down the daycare slide like that, I could’ve gotten hurt! Or even worse, you could’ve gotten hurt!”
Gregory’s lip thins, and a crackling, barely noticeable guilt bloomed in his stomach like a match. Only a terse reply falls from his lips, robotic and insincere, as if he were on autopilot: “I’m sorry.”
“Apologies like that aren’t going to cut it!” Sun sighs, clearly exasperated- his circuitry gives a light whirr as he places a hand against his head. “You’ve broken the daycare rules twice in a row, now! While being banned!”
“I was careless,” Gregory replies, still sparing in words- one moment he talked a lot, and the next he barely said anything. “I had things to do.”
“Things. You had things to do. As in, what kind of things? Turning the lights off?” Sun asks- he raises his finger as if he wishes to say more, but a slight fritz emanates from his voicebox as if he wishes to stop himself. Pacing back and forth around for a while, Gregory sits on the edge of the ballpit as the taller animatronic before him kneels before him. “Look, kid- have you ever played before?”
A slight trickle of sweat rolls down his back- memories roil within his head, glistening with silver like minnows through the watery, icy chill of darkness. A swing set- children with plushies, the images distorted, faded in color and smudged faintly, yet clear enough for him to swallow the rock in his throat. Laughter and cheer and carefree joy, the days of youth he was forced to leave behind to dutifully serve the future that was rightfully his.
“Several times… back when I was younger,” Gregory finally responds. “Back when I was happier… more innocent. With not a care or responsibility in the world. Those days… they seem so long ago now.”
Sun tilts his head out of curiosity, and the boy hopes he won’t notice the forlorn melancholy about to glisten in his eyes. “How… long ago, Superstar?"
His muscles tighten. “I mean very long ago,” he tightly admits. “Very, very, very. Very, very long ago. Such days of bygone joy are best left forgotten, some say… but I refuse to give up on my future, or on my place in the world. After all…” he murmurs, shoulders finally slumping. “I deserve a life and a purpose as much as anyone else. And I’ll fight for what I believe I deserve no matter what may happen… no matter what others may think of me.”

Android Model: EV-300
Height: 4.5 ft
Weight: 85 lbs.
Serial Number Recorded: #613-972-983-57
Basic Systems: Online. Artificial organ systems are complete and wired properly, including the pesky digestive tract. Simulated needs such as a requirement for food, sleep and water are also online, and will present themselves when the vessel awakens. Hypercomplex image, audio, and facial recognition and distinction software is also online, as well as depth perception, hand to eye coordination, hyper-advanced cognitive thinking, and proximity sensors operating on the level of a human. Multiple software instabilities are present in his program with the error code of “err.8A3”, but these are not to be worried about- this is most likely due to the soul present in the tesseract core that powers him. I have already programmed him to be observant, obstinate and self-aware of his personhood as per the nature of his soul infused within the Tesseract Core. Him deviating from his intended purpose to develop goals, emotions, a personality and a moral compass of his own entirely separate from his programming is entirely intentional, and therefore inevitable.
Scenario and Strategic Reconstruction Module: Online. The Reconstruction and Preconstruction Module is directly connected to his mind palace and optical unit, designed to further aid in the vessel’s already impeccable strategic and tactical mind beyond that of humans. First, however, physical and circumstantial details must be analyzed on their own, such as velocities, shapes, physical material and trajectories of certain projectiles to calculate where they will hit, notes and tapes indicating records of past events that may occur in the future with proper circumstance alteration, et cetera. The actual metaphysical simulation software will be left to be completed for optional future maintenance, as the model finds no need to outwardly visualize in an augmented reality environment, though he may be vaguely irritated by such inconveniences in the future.
Ambidextrous Module: Online, though the vessel may display a frivolous tendency for favoring a specific type of handedness more when operating or interacting with the world around him via sensory perception. In the event that he does become left-handed, I’ll just have won the bet I’ve made with myself, I must say.
Psychological Manipulation Module: Online: seamlessly connected with his social integration module. Designed to simulate parental responses in humans who appear older than him. Aids in purposes such as emotional manipulation and espionage, which may benefit the vessel should he become independent in the world and have to survive on his own. Due to this, he can also tell lies without much strain on his processing power, with uninterrupted, clear and concise diction. However, on lying about topics ‘sensitive’ to him, he may occasionally stutter due to a heightened software instability and a disturbed emotional state. Due to his innate nature as being Evan reincarnated, the vessel may develop a prominent knack for humor and sarcasm, and may become sensitive and emotional as per the circumstances. In others, however, he may be uncaring, literal, and cold.
Vocal Imitation Module: Offline, as it is incomplete. The vessel can manipulate his voicebox via his External Processing Unit attached to his Central Processing Unit, which in turn is connected to the rest of his components. In doing so, he can mimic a perfectly human-sounding voice if he listens to one, but the actual spoken voice will be unique only to him. The program to implement a voice databank has not been completed as of yet, despite him being incredibly pattern and behavior-sensitive beyond that of human ability. However, according to future predictions, he may develop a habit of imitating speech patterns of those around him if observing them for enough time.
Martial Unit: Offline, but also not truly? According to my most recent predictions, the vessel will display above-average strength, but no particularly advanced hand-to-hand combat. He may learn how to deal with weaponry in the future, and become more efficient with its usage the more he uses it- he may even learn how to repurpose materials to make such weapons. He will almost certainly display advanced agility, speed, flexibility and dexterity due to his small body structure, though.
We shall see how many of these predictions shall be confirmed in future analysis and observations when the vessel wakes up, and basic tests are initiated.

Experiment 12:
Notes: This experiment utilized live butterflies, due to the previous failings of Experiments 9, 10, and 11, all of which utilized small rodents and mammalian creatures.
Subject Count: 5 Butterflies- 2 female, 3 male.
Butterflies were fed two to three portions of altered nectar mixture in simulated biome environment.
Their behavior was closely monitored afterwards- flight patterns, mating patterns and overall activity and health were substantially bolstered due to the diet of the mixture being administered to them. When the lights were turned off, it is observed that the wings began to possess a bioluminescent glow once a UV light was shined on them.
After seven days, all butterflies were killed, and the remnant extraction process began.
Results: Surprisingly successful. In large masses, the crushed remains of the butterflies’s wings, as well as their remnant and hemolymph, will be harvested in large quantities and then mixed with the remainder of Evan’s blood combined with a liquified preservation gel mixture to compose the new blood for his body, decidedly dubbed ‘Hemolymph’. Side effects of such procedural measures are that it may appear blue instead of red in nature, but it is highly unlikely that this minor issue shall be accounted for- the liquid shall still have the same texture and plasmatic composition of regular human blood, so it is not a problem. This bio-engineered blood substitute will be a fine addition alongside the vessel’s circuitry to quickly process electrical signals and boost computing power substantially, so that the soul contained within may operate on the level of a human.
The attempted ingredients are as follows, ratios not listed:
Human blood
Crushed butterfly wings, nectar infused
Butterfly hemolymph
Remnant
Serum solute
Preserved and infused blood plasma
Hydrangea petals, crushed
Jasmine petals, crushed
Macerated Obsidian Powder
Tiger’s eye- coating as protection for the veins needed to circulate the new blood
Lubricant for dilution
After implementation: The vessel, despite the exoskeleton still not being fully constructed, does have a functional set of components and artificial organs to substitute. The tesseract core placed inside the artificial heart compartment is beginning to give off a simulated heartbeat, similar to that of a healthy, average human being’s heartbeat and pulse. Looking forward, it does not appear that the growth of intelligence and development will be stunted in any way whatsoever, nor will the regaining of memories be affected similarly.
However, the total remnant index extracted from the three trials of butterflies that have been used is still far from enough. The set deadline is approaching- I must speed up the process. I’ve looked just a few hours before into the creation of the Funtime Animatronics and the Scooper in the hopes that I may acquire a burst of inspiration, as well as the leftover astronomical tools and charts I have stored in my office. Humans are known to measure quite high in remnant index due to our inherent nature as living organisms, as each individual does possess a unique and prominent arcanum according to ancient knowledge discovered by our ancestors… yes, that could work. Circus Baby- FT-100, and the rest of Charlotte’s versions, the prototypes- they can serve as inspiration for their successor.
I look forward to the day when my son, my creation, can walk this earth once more.

Gregory does not understand teamwork. Like, at all. He understands why it’s necessary, but he just can’t put it into practice himself because people are so damn confusing and its a curse seeing right through to them sometimes.
He tends to lose patience easily and quickly when people aren’t as efficient or as hardworking as him, which leads to the whole predicament only further adding fuel to the fire that is his internal loneliness and the fact that he lacks any charisma or social skills when it comes to regular social situations and environments, hence his terse and formal, restrained demeanor around literally everyone that doesn’t know him on a personal level. Because of this, people think that his blood runs a bit cold upon their first impression of him.
The truth is that he has a largely self-serving outlook due to his heavy distrust and loss of faith altogether in humanity, his world revolving around the pursuit of his goals and the happiness of his family and himself, as well as a fulfilling, prosperous future. Gregory doesn’t wish to take responsibility for the actions of others and suffer repercussions- he doesn’t wish to take on the natural responsibilities, roles and qualities of a leader willing to sacrifice everything for their men, and can’t comprehend how self-sacrifice is noble. Moreover, his expectations for his group is absurdly high- he expects a team of capable people who are willing to shoulder their own responsibility and carry their own weight, willing to take their part seriously to get work done- he expects PERFECT team synchronization and communication. If he doesn’t have the benefits that he attains from teamwork, pride and confidence in the capabilities of his teammates, and the authority to order them as he sees fit, he deems it better to work alone: if he has no authority over them, he cannot take responsibility for their antics. He doesn’t wish to be a leader without the proper benefits, even though he has all the qualifications of being one.
Even as Evan, most of his experiences with group projects were utterly nightmarish, a sentiment he shares deeply with Cassidy- they have unyielding faith and trust in each other because they were paired up and relied actively on each other to complete the project step by step, and they have been there for each other time and time again to complete the task ahead of them- something Gregory sees as what teamwork should be. For literally anyone else, blind trust is a surefire way to get yourself in the worst situation possible.
“Please, please, do your part and carry your weight and don’t be a lazy asshole, I BEG of you. Just do that, and you’ll be fine.”
On the bright side, this grants him a productive, diligent, hardworking and no-nonsense attitude for a leader- obstinate and domineering, making no special circumstances and taking no excuses. His knack to discern the true intentions of others also allows him to take on an administrative and strategic role almost effortlessly, assigning people to certain tasks based on what he sees as fit. One has to admire his tenacity when it comes to this. His constant striving for results when it comes to work, and his willingness to take necessary risks and calculate his moves (having common sense and arriving at the simplest, quickest solution to any problem) enables him to have NO slackers or lazy people among those who work with him.
On the other hand, when people don’t take their responsibilities seriously, or by contrast, don’t take him and his attempt at leadership and responsibility seriously, Gregory becomes IMMENSELY frustrated and hateful to the point where he can be pretty cruel and dismissive of them and their circumstances, no matter how busy or hard their lives may be. He refuses to make any further attempts to listen to people and work past their differences when they actively mock him or refuse to cooperate with him, instead relying on warnings and sometimes force to make them get things done. He will NOT take ANY responsibility for the wrongdoings of other people and will NOT try to fix their mistakes, believing that they only have themselves to blame for failing to crush any obstacles that come their way- Gregory utterly HATES that about the group project format: one engine sputtering out or failing means the whole damn ship goes down. It is ONLY when the circumstances are actively explained to him that he can accommodate accordingly and actually open himself up to listen to other people, and help them with their problems so that they can be more efficient and motivated.
His hatred of teamwork is partially due to his misanthropy and heavy distrust festering towards other people, as well as Selective Group Memory Paradox- again, owing it to his paranoia and how much he has a love-hate relationship with humanity and people in general. He’s pretty obsessive, and pretends he doesn’t want help, but he just wants deep down a team of capable people who respect him and are willing to work with him as much as he is willing to work with them- mutual respect and toleration that fosters into a healthy acquainted relationship, if you will.
“I’m just giving you all a quick warning, alright? If you don’t fulfill your duty and pull your weight, we are going to fail and I’m throwing you under the bus, no excuses. I don’t care if you’re sick or whatever- you had better get your part done and not drag everyone down with you, m’kay? I don’t care what the result is, just produce an optimal outcome and give your best effort. I’ll even fix it for you- just get something done, ANYTHING done.”
However, he does value the contributions of his teammates when they DO get something done, and once they’ve proved their worth, capability and trustworthiness to him, he values them incredibly as both people and as valuable assets to future projects and group endeavors, even with their differences.

Gregory Pre-Remembrance Headcanons:
When Gregory first awoke, he was kind of like an infant (you’ll see most of his behaviors in the fic Software Instability spanning out across all the chapters). He was still without his memories, and kind of vulnerable to the world around him- the techs/mechanics who found him slumbering in the underground facility took care of him- fueling him, feeding him, charging him, attaching him to wires to keep him from wandering and doing maintenance on him, running tests on him to test, record and analyze his cognitive abilities and intelligence- y’know, the basic stuff.
Gregory also displayed fascination at being able to feel- as when he first awakened, or was first activated, he was awestruck and transfixed at the basic five senses he was feeling- first sight, then hearing, then smell, then touch, and finally, taste. This does support the notion that he was not fully in his conscious, aware mind yet, and that his awareness slowly began to develop post-awakening until the vision of his first regained memory (thereby symbolizing the events leading up to the climax of the ‘triumphant return from the ashes’ of his hero’s journey).
He still had a scary amount of intelligence, repurposing, recycling and rebuilding toys into different objects in his free time, reconstructing and rearranging the machinery, hacking into the software of Fazwatches only to cause some minor glitches in them, et cetera- but he still had the mentality of a child barely aware of the true nature of his surroundings- observant yet still carefree, not knowing that this illusion would shatter brutally soon.
Gregory also still did display his determined, committed personality even before regaining his memories, such as when he ordered a volume of a comic series he was reading online from a Fazbear Employee’s personal device just to read more. Despite this, without his memories of his past life, Gregory is quite aimless at this stage of his development, wanting to pursue a goal in life, or longing to develop deep attachments to other people despite not knowing how to socialize or make friends, considering the mechanics working on him and performing tests on him as his ‘friends’. He is also still a hard worker and an exemplary planner, and a scarily intelligent, excellent strategist who plans on solving problems by eliminating their root cause, but even then those traits are still in their developmental stages. He is also good at reading people, but showed no interest in determining and discerning their true intentions until after the mechanics betrayed him and tried to deactivate them.
His childish demeanor belies an honest, innocently insensitive and oblivious personality during Gregory’s developmental stages post-reincarnation. He’s not aware of how much he’s lost or what’s at stake for him yet- he’s not aware of the path that he shall soon come to forge. He longs for something, yet he’s not quite sure what it is or how to achieve it- the road ahead is hazy, the path laden and flooded with thick water that he wades through going up to his knees. He longs for a shadow to chase, for the empty hole in his heart to fill itself- he just doesn’t know what purpose he is meant for yet, and spends his days searching for that purpose.
He also doesn’t possess a sense of selflessness or humanity, nor does he possess social charisma and responsible qualities willing to sacrifice himself for a larger purpose- since, again, Gregory hasn’t yet found that larger destiny, that dream worth sacrificing and living for- worth dedicating himself to. He’s detached from worldly concerns- he doesn’t have the slightest interest to help others unless it is someone he cares deeply about, a matter he is interested in, or if it benefits him in some manner, alluding to a more logistically selfish side developing in him. He does have his flashes of kindness, though, as he does spare the injured dog when asked to end it.
After the mechanics are slaughtered, this side of him is exacerbated- he doesn’t trust or have faith in humanity in the slightest due to being betrayed and almost hurt and killed by the people he once trusted and genuinely wanted to be friends with. He behaves like a detached animal until he regains his memories- confused, disoriented and hostile, yet bold and arrogant, hunting for food and displaying blatant disregard for the lives of those he hunts such as small rodents that he kills and eats for sustenance when he’s not scavenging for leftover candies and discarded, half-full bottles of warm Fizzy Faz. Gregory’s not afraid to use brute force- symbolized by when he, as Evan, is seen in a memory letting a butterfly land on his finger before letting it flutter away, only to revert back to a repeat of that same moment: a butterfly lands on his finger, only this time, he lets it scurry onto his palm… and he crushes it, letting the remains spill between his fingers to the ground. It can be inferred from this, therefore, that had any human or any other entity entered, he would’ve either ran and hid, or if the intruder were hostile, he would attack it.
And as more of his memories resurface, the more he begins to revert back to a mixture of his old and new self- like a butterfly shedding its cocoon. More traits start to resurface, like the grand sense of the importance of his dream and all matters paling in comparison to his dream from his point of view, his non-derisive childishness, his surprising levels of articulateness and maturity spiking in comparison to post-awakening, his disturbing levels of self-awareness, and his prominent, burning idealism and unyielding, unbreakable willpower caused by FINALLY having a dream to pursue- something that imbued worth into his life, reawakened his kindness and hope and gave him a reason to care about anything at all- something that finally revived him and started the process for him to open the door to life and all it has to offer.
Evan Afton basically died so hard, that he- physically, spiritually, mentally and emotionally- had to be REBORN step by step. And that caused him to go through all the stages of emotional development, coupled with the return of his memories, so that his new form containing a halved fragment of him could return him back from ‘where he left off’.

MORE GREGORY VOICELINES SKULL EMOJI:
“Here’s a tip for being prepared for anything- you need to know your enemy inside and out. It’s not just about your own skillset, teamwork and planning, though that matters a lot too. Every strength, every weakness, their goals and motivations, their emotional responses, their history of successes and failures, their actions and reactions to every situation they’re in… you need to know those things like the back of your own hand to come up with the simplest, quickest and most unpredictable counterattacks and solutions, before crushing them and finishing them off. Being as prepared as possible for every single person or situation you’re up against is practically a recipe for certain victory!”
“I know sometimes it’s necessary, and that people always scold me for saying such things, but I just can’t seem to understand negotiation and diplomacy. Spending hours upon hours, fighting back and forth, back and forth to come to some complicated conclusion with an endless list of terms and conditions for both sides to agree with, just so they can both be satisfied… why would I ever bother myself with such boring busywork? In fact, why would anyone like talking things out when the discussion gets nowhere? Just solve the problem at its source- get things done, something done, for all I care! I, for one, have plans of my own, and don’t ever want to waste my energy on participating in such pointless discussions just to please other people and get benefits that don’t even help me in taking what’s rightfully mine- consider me ENTIRELY unconvinced, no sir.”
“Though people are different… I suppose it’s okay to work together every now and then. I do struggle with doing things with other people, though- especially other kids… it’s a surprise they ever show patience to someone like me at all: after all, I can be a bit… difficult, to deal with. Unlikeable, even, to some. I’m told so often. Knowing that my dedication, hard work and intelligence is valued and respected by other people will put a smile on my face, I’ll say that much. I don’t like being treated like a child and nothing more by those around me, and I REALLY hate it when others only see the worst in me, because I was treated the exact same way by everyone one time. That seems so long ago, now… never again will I go back to those days where I never got the kindness and respect I deserved.”
“I don’t regret the things I’ve done to grow closer to accomplishing my mission. I regret the stupid mistakes I’ve stumbled over, the occasional errors in judgement I’ve made, while doing these things. They don’t always make themselves obvious, but they’re still there. Always there. Were I wary enough to avoid them altogether when I still had the chance, it would’ve saved me so much time. Ah- it doesn’t matter now. I can’t feel any shame if I can keep moving forward. After all, good things may come to those who wait, but better things come to those who go out and get them.”
“There are two kinds of people in this world- those who want to get things done and reach their potential, and those who are scared to death of making mistakes. I used to be the second one, but now I’m mostly the first. See? Real proof that people can always change, and the term ‘two-faced’ doesn’t really exist.”
***
(to himself at Montgomery Gator, during the events of Security Breach): “Excuse me? How dare you underestimate me so shamelessly!”
(to himself at the hostile Glamrock Animatronics, during the events of Security Breach): “I’ve no time to waste on the likes of you… I’ll just crush you under my feet as quickly as I can, then.”
(at the hostile Glamrock Animatronics, during the events of Security Breach): “Hmph. Fine, then: I’ll teach you to waste my time like this!”
(to Vanny/Vanessa): “Elizabeth Dean-Afton. I didn’t recognize you until now, but that doesn’t matter. Explain yourself. Now.”
(to Glitchtrap): “Hmph. What use are words anymore? We’ve both set off on our own paths a long time ago.”
(to Vanny/Vanessa): “I don’t get why you don’t understand- it’s just basic theory of strategy. And you all said I’m the idiot with no common sense…”
(to Glamrock Freddy): “Please don’t try to treat me like I’m some helpless little child. I’m more than capable- I can protect myself well enough.”
(to Glamrock Freddy): “What? Come now, don’t look at me like that, I was just trying to rally your fighting spirits!”
(to himself): “This will be a great opportunity to test what I’ve learned over the years… and to show off the results of my hard work. Hah, after all, it is well deserved.”
