To me, Vegeta is one of the most fascinating characters when it comes to character development and the heel-face turn trope. He's the main villain of an arc, then joins the heroes to fight Freeza, then suddenly finds himself hanging with and working with the heroes.

He doesn't actually turn good though. He's just in a funk because Goku beat him in a fight, and Vegeta is just biding his time until he can finally fight Goku and defeat him.

On the social hierarchy Vegeta grew up in, Goku should never be able to beat him because Goku was born a low-class Saiyan, while Vegeta was the Prince of All Saiyans. Goku defeating Vegeta was an insult more than anything and Vegeta needed to beat him to restore the social order.

Everything else is just a distraction from that goal. The only reason he would help against the Androids and Cell was because Goku had no interest in fighting Vegeta when there's a more immediate threat. If Goku won't fight because he's too busy protecting Earth, then that means helping him save Earth will get him closer to his chance to fight.

And then Goku sacrifices his life to save the Earth.

Vegeta spent years obsessed with beating Goku, and now that goal was unobtainable. Then Goku comes back to life for a day. The spark in Vegeta's eyes returns as he finally gets his chance. Then Babidi appears and tries to resurrect Majin Buu. And Goku has to save the world and can't fight Vegeta.

Vegeta does not hide his fury. He only has a 24-hour window to finally prove he's stronger than Goku and they are WASTING their time trying to stop some evil wizard and they are wasting even more time because Gohan is struggling against an opponent he could handily beat if he had been diligent in his training.

They were scheduled to fight in the 6th round of the World Martial Arts Tournament and they were stuck watching Gohan fumble around. If Vegeta or Goku had fought Dabura instead, they would already have kicked Dabura's ass, and kicked Babidi's ass, and would be back at the tournament kicking each others' ass.

So of course he took Babidi's offer. But more than that, he got to remember why he wanted to fight Goku. It had been over a decade since he made that goal. He remembered his shattered ego, his evil ambitions, and he realized he had gone from a ruthless killing machine to a family man.

He fights Goku to a draw only because Goku is more worried about Babidi and Buu. So once again, Vegeta decides to help save the Earth so there's nothing interfering with his fight with Goku.

And then Vegeta sacrifices his life to save the Earth.

Splatoon x Dragon Ball WIP

There's some basic background information and poll under the cut if you want more details!

Ok so this is FAR from finished so this is for a little background on what I'm trying to do here.

I'm loosely basing this animation off Goku and Vegeta's first fight, specifically the part where Vegeta goes Great Ape, but I haven't gotten that far yet.

In terms of character choice, I went with OG Agent 3 as Goku because they just fit the bill as main protagonist, and I'll have 4 and Neo 3 standing in for Krillin/Gohan later in the animation. Important to note that they're not 1 to 1 replacements either. Neo 3 is cast as Gohan because my Neo 3 is an Inktoling, making them a hybrid like Gohan, but they're not OG 3's kid. The rest of the NSS serve the same role as the Z-Fighters, with 4 being the best friend of 3 like Krillin is to Goku.

The Octarians, specifically the elites, are my Saiyan Army replacements because they're the best option I had as a large army force. Marina, 8, and Acht are special cases, but that goes more into the plot I have mapped out for this AU, and that's for another time. I specifically went with the Splat3 Elite Octoling for two reasons:

Vegeta is an elite saiyan so I wanted to use an elite octoling

Because I thought that the "fuzzification" where the fur grows and the eyes change to match the fuzzy ooze would work perfectly as the transition between their humanoid form and a fuzzy Kraken, which would be my stand in for the Great Ape/Oozaru transformation

So far it's been really fun to put together. I've been learning how to utilize Blender Eevee better throughout, since it lets me have a lot more control over things like lighting and shading. No telling when I'll finish this, but I'm hoping it'll be done in at least a few months. I have plenty of scenes I still have to animate, and then there's dialogue and sound effects I gotta add too, so there's still plenty more for me to add.

I have a list of characters that anyone in the DBZ saga can easily beat the ass of (Even Yamcha), but they would be absolutely, royally fucked if Cell had their data on them/Majin Buu absorbed them.

Satoru Gojo- Because Infinity + the Six Eyes would make them virtually impossible to beat.

Any Stand User- do I need to explain any further?

Mahoraga- If Cell or Buu could become immune to a phenomenon if it didn't kill him the first time you hit him with it, you'd run out of options faster than people run out of "Goku vs" topics.

Garou- That guy's potential was impossible to comprehend fully. He is able to learn Martial Arts techniques just by observing them once, even at just a glance, or reading about them. Not to mention the fact that he can fight for days on end while being poisoned, sleep deprived, and gravely injured.

Ryomen Sukuna- Malevolent Shrine.

If you have any of these to add to the list, please feel free to add them to this list.

These must be the newer anime that I haven't seen yet 😅

Cell is probably my favorite DBZ antagonist just because he really does give a challenge.

But after seeing Super... I'm beginning to think it's getting a little redundant for Goku to keep leveling up and up.

I am going to be on the real here and say it's hard to compare characters to others out of universe. From a world building standpoint, each universe has its built in limits to what characters can do. I think you can possibly compare similar universes and their characters, but I haven't really watched any of the newer anime (post 2010) because I'm such a diehard for the classics.

SSJ2 Goku vs SSJ2 Majin Vegeta is better in the manga. They say they are about even in their SSJ2 forms and it shows that. In the anime... it has Vegeta dominating the fight. My brother and I counted who hit who the most one time. If my memory is right, Vegeta hit Goku like 50 more times than Goku hit him. And then they say they are even. Like no. The anime made Goku look weaker then tells you they are even. The manga says and shows that they are even. That's better writing in the manga.

But I'm sure Majin Vegeta fans like the anime version more because of course. It made him look like he was stronger than Goku. I just feel it was an inaccurate portrayal in that instance. Goku get beaten up then Goku says they are even? Don't make no sense.

(But dont get me started on Movie 13 and how they treated Vegeta there. Now THAT was frustrating to watch... & I ain't even a Vegeta fan anymore.)

Question for you Story, would you compare both Dante & Vergil to Goku & Vegeta in any way? And what about Evan, who do see her to within the Dragon Ball world?

Buckle up because I've got deep opinions on this.

Actually, there are a lot of similarities with Dante and Goku, but there are way more differences.

Goku is always looking for the next opponent. He wants to get strong so he can fight. He's a goofball for sure, which is a similarity that he and Dante share. To be honest, that is probably where the similarities end. Other than they both have lost their parents at a young age.

Dante has a bit more trauma to sort through. Actually, now that I think about it, Goku doesn't seem to know what trauma is. Dante is self-destructive when it comes to facing things that are deeply personal. His method is to fight it out or possibly drink it out (going by the 2007 anime) but it's not a healthy thing. Dante also does not seek out power, he has to become powerful to take on his foes while Goku is always looking for that extra boost.

Vergil and Vegeta... totally different.

Vergil is a static character. His goal is always the same and he is motivated by the desire to beat Dante. Vegeta is always looking to become stronger than Goku, but he also relies on their rivalry to push forward. However, Vegeta is not static. He goes through his own personal journey that ultimately makes him a better person. Vergil doesn't get that. At the end of DMC5 we really don't know if Vergil has changed, we can assume he does, but it's hard to say. It's really hard to say that Vergil has learned something. I believe he did as he is no longer willing to kill Dante. In Visions of V, I do believe we see a lot of complex emotions and growth in the form of V. I feel that Vergil did change because he is not the same Vergil from DMC3. His growth comes from his time as V.

Vegeta in my eyes has a lot more going for him than Vergil does. In the Buu Saga, we literally see Vegeta blow himself up to take down Majin Buu. It doesn't work, but it's not something Vergil would even stoop to doing. Self sacrifice is something he would see as weak and pathetic especially if it's going to get him killed.

As far as Evan goes... she wants to be as normal as possible but could potentially be as strong as Nero if she was pushed. But unlike Gohan, she isn't pushed to fight like he is. She has a lot in common with Gohan I think. But honestly, she has a pretty good Dad that let's her be. You might want to ask her opinion on this too.

My top 10 fights of The Dragon Ball anime franchise (official timeline at least)

1- Goku vs Tien was a great fight. Loved the high difficulty of the fight and how Goku just barely lost. Their 2nd fight was great in the sense it showed how much Goku has improved. Also showed Tien use to be a threat 😅

2- Use to rewatch Goku vs Piccolo all the time.. Definitely was a great end of series fight and fulfilling with that last blow.

3- Goku vs Vegeta is a classic. I feel both fights are good with a lot of folks forgetting the 2nd fight was great as well

4- Goku vs the Ginyu force was a dope showing of power . The way dude just effortlessly destroyed them made it so good

5- Piccolo vs 17. Definitely is a underrated fight. Them Boyz was going blow for blow and really was piccolo last good fight before Super..

6- Goku vs Cell is probably my favorite fight. It's wild how forgotten it is.. The anime did the fight extreme justice

7- Buu vs Vegeta and Goku was the fight of an era. A dope ending to the series+ that Vegeta speech 💯

8-Goku vs Beerus anime fight is downplayed crazy. I loved all the new attacks they showed Beerus using . Also we got that universe spanning punch 👊

9- Goku vs hit is probably the best 1v1 in Super. Goku surpassing his limits + time with the OST playing in the background was crazy good

10- Universe 7 vs Jiren was great. Vegeta , Frieza , 17 all had dope parts to play and not to mention Ultra Instinct.. I don't hate Jiren regardless of what y'all feel about his backstory 😅
