Over the Waves
Pairing: GoChi
Word count: 1627
Summary: Over the WavesChichi just isn't her self when her sons leave for the day during the summer vacation from school and has a surprising request for Goku.
Prompt: For @gochiweek, prompt #4
https://archiveofourown.org/works/41751120
“Bye, mom!  Bye, dad!” said Gohan as he ran out the backdoor.
“Have a good day!” Chichi called after him as I yelled my goodbye from the kitchen table.
Through the open kitchen window above the kitchen sink, I glimpsed him kick into the air and rocket far out of sight in a matter of moments to go spend the hot summer day in Satan City with Videl.
Goten walked into the kitchen, dressed in a powder-blue rash-guard and bright red swim shorts.  He had a red backpack slung over one shoulder with supplies for a day of swimming and a sleepover with Trunks at Capsule Corp.  Chichi packed it for him earlier that morning.
She ran her fingers through his thick hair that looked just like mine.  “Have fun with Trunks!  And be sure to go to bed at a reasonable time.”
Goten nodded.  “Yes, mommy, I will!”
“Bye, Goten!” Chichi and I said in unison.
With that, he ran out the backdoor, too, and flew off toward Capsule Corp.
Chichi tossed the dishtowel she had used to dry our breakfast dishes on the counter and sighed as she stared outside.  There was an uncharacteristic slump in her shoulders.
I got up from the table and went to her.  I rubbed her back.  “You okay, babe?”
Another sigh, a nod, and, “Yeah.  I’m fine.”
That wasn’t very convincing.  Chichi always got a little mopey when the boys left for the day.  She loved it when we were all home together.  Between the heat, the boys leaving, and her hardly ever leaving the house since summer started, she was a little off.
I hummed.  “Why don’t you and me go out?  We could go for a swim in the lake if you want.”
Chichi hummed, too, but didn’t respond right away, her gaze still focused on something outside the window. “Work needs done around the house.”
“That can wait.”  I reached for the neat little bow behind her neck that held up her white apron.  I pulled the bow open and did the same to the one holding her apron to her waist.  “How about it, honey?”
Chichi giggled and tossed the apron on the counter on top of the dishtowel.  “Okay.  Let me grab a few things and then let’s go.”
~+~
Our bare feet dangled in the lake’s cool water as Chichi and I sat side-by-side on the lake’s edge.  I had on my black swim shorts and Chichi had on a pink one-piece swimsuit with a simple white wrap tied around her waist.  She let her long hair down to dry in the sun from the swim and I couldn’t resist sliding my fingers through her long soft hair.  She smiled at me before a small flock of ducks took off out of the lake.  Chichi watched them until they were almost out of sight.
“Goku?”
“Hmm?”
“I want you to teach me how to fly.”
I stared at her with wide eyes.  “Y-you want to learn how to fly?”
I didn’t expect that!
Chichi met my gaze and nodded.  “Yes.”
I grinned.  “Want to start now?”
“Sure.”
I pulled my legs out of the water, stood, and offered Chichi a hand.  She accepted it and we walked to a soft patch of grass.
“You know how to do this,” I said as I cupped my hands in front of me and summed just enough ki to form a little pinpoint of light over my palms.
Chichi’s energy surged as she summoned her own tiny ball of light in her hands, held it a moment, and let it fade.
“Yeah, that’s it,” I said as I nodded.  “Well, flight isn’t too different from what you just did.  Instead of bringing my energy into my hands, I kind of just push it up.  Give it a try!”
Chichi nodded slowly, murmured, “Push it up,” and closed her eyes.
I watched her with baited breath.  Chichi was strong.  If anyone could fly, she definitely could.  Chichi’s energy built and flowed gently around her.  Her long hair billowed with the air her energy displaced.  Her bare toes lifted off the grass.  She eased a couple feet higher and opened her eyes.  She grinned as she stared around herself, directed that smile at me, and my heart fluttered.  Chichi had complete control but I held my arms out for her just in case.
Her feet touched down gently in the grass and she blew out a breath, still not losing her grin.
Chichi threw her arms around me.  “I did it!”
I laughed as I held her.  “Yeah!  I knew you could do it, babe!”
I stepped away to give her space to try again.
Chichi narrowed her eyes and floated off the grass.  She flew higher, that time almost level with the treetops.  The swimsuit wrap around her waist came loose and fluttered away on the breeze.  She reached for it but missed.
I smiled.  “Will yourself forward and you’ll go forward.”
Chichi moved forward, slowly at first, and I stayed right with her.  She wobbled, dropped a few inches, and recovered.  Her wide-eyed gaze sought mine.
“Don’t worry, babe.  I’m right here.  I’ll catch you if you fall,” I said.
Chichi relaxed with that and her flight stabilized.
Chichi looked off toward her white swimsuit wrap, not much more than a small speck over the trees.  “Oh, I’m never going to catch that.”
“You’ll get this in no time, babe.  All you need is practice.  I’ll be right back,” I said with a wink.
I flew after the little white speck floating over the trees, snatched her soft knitted wrap out of the air, and rejoined Chichi all in only a few seconds.  I gave it to her.
Chichi smiled as she tied it around her waist with a double knot.  “Thank you, sweetheart.”
Chichi sank toward the grass and I followed her down where we both landed.  She bent double and braced her hands on her knees to catch her breath.
“That’s a little hard to hold at first, isn’t it?” I said, remembering my struggles with my first flight.
She straightened and nodded.  After a short break, she was right back at it again.  That was my wife!  When there was something she wanted, she never gave up.
~+~
Chichi flew fast circles around me and zigzagged through the air above our house.  I chased after her.
“I feel completely weightless!” she yelled through a laugh as she swooped in low over our house.  “This is amazing!  I should have asked you to teach me ages ago!”
I chuckled as I chased her through the air.  “What’s even more amazing is how fast you mastered this!”
I married one incredible woman!
Chichi landed on our roof.  “Let’s go to the coast.”
With no warning, she took off again, angling to the south.  I flew after her.  We lived pretty close to the ocean so we reached the glittering expanse of sea only a few minutes later.  I breathed in the briny air.  We overflew a remote, untouched beach and out over the surprisingly calm blue water.  Chichi skimmed her fingers along the glassy surface and then gained some altitude.
Small, sleek shapes darted around just a little too deep to make out.  A fin sliced through the surface, followed by a lot more.  Shiny grey dolphins leaped high from the glassy water, twisting in the air to get a look at Chichi and me.
Chichi clapped her hands together.  “Oh, look at them!  There has to be at least fifty!”
“Hey, watch this!” I yelled over the splashing and whistling dolphins.  “I’m going to give them something to chase.”
I dove low over the seawater, almost skimming the surface.  Just like I thought they would, the dolphins kicked their powerful tails and stayed right on mine.  They porpoised after me, taking breaths of air every time they breached the surface.  The dolphins stayed with us a good long while but eventually the group grew bored.  They veered away and I quickly lost them in the endless expanse of blue.  All that was left of them was choppy water and a frothy film clinging to the surface.
“I think the dolphins liked that,” said Chichi as she slowed to a hover some ten feet over the water.
“Remember when we saw dolphins from Nimbus when we were young?” I asked.
Chichi’s eyes sparkled.  “Oh, how could I possibly forget?”  She touched her cheek and sighed.  “And then we got married.”
I floated closer to her.  “Mm-hmm.”
I smoothed a strand of hair out of her face and moved in for what was supposed to be a little kiss.  When we came up for air, I was breathless.  Chichi’s cheeks were flushed and she batted long eyelashes at me.  The breeze carried a distant foghorn.  The day was almost over.  Chichi cupped her hands around her mouth and called for Nimbus.  The little yellow cloud found us in no time just like it always did before.
Chichi made herself comfortable and patted for me to join her.  “Let’s watch the sunset over the ocean like we did when we were young.”
I sat beside Chichi on Nimbus’ soft, fluffy surface.  When Chichi shivered as the temperature dropped a little, I pulled her onto my lap.  The sunset painted bright pink, orange, and gold all over the water and I was sure I spotted the pod of dolphins leaping on the horizon.  Chichi snuggled into me and, together, we watched until the last of the sunset’s bright colors faded with the last of the daylight and night took over.  We took Nimbus home.  When the boys were both home, we surprised them with a flight out as a family.

GoChi Week 2021: A Fulfilled Life Part Seven
GoChi Week 2021
A Fulfilled Life
Day Seven: Afterlife @gochi-week
“…… he grabbed his toy and tossed it at me. Babies need to know who is boss so I smacked his fanny hard.”
“Babies do try to test you. Gohan and Goten did, but,” ChiChi smiled fondly of the memories of her sons as babies, “I handled it.”
The older man chuckled. Spending this time with ChiChi, he definitely knew ChiChi was a strong woman who could handle anything, especially two-hybrid Saiyans. He imagined Goten to be a spitfire and energetic baby testing his limits like his father but he pictured Gohan to be a calmer baby.
“Gohan? You told me he is a sweet child.”
ChiChi giggled. Everyone who knew of Gohan always thought that. They thought of him as a kind well-mannered person and he is but Gohan had another side. Gohan can get cocky. Gohan can get moody. He had a temper like hers when he got really angry but most tend to avoid that and focus on his gentler nature.
“He is but Gohan has an aggressive personality, too. He’s strong like his Dad but I think Gohan has a perfect blend of my and Goku’s personality.”
“Like his Momma.” Son Gohan leaned back in his chair admiring the strong and proud woman sitting across from him. “I can’t wait to meet them.”
“You will,” ChiChi promised. “But not any time soon.”
“No, no,” Son Gohan chuckled. “I want it to be a very long time before I meet my great-grandsons. I’m very happy to be spending time with my granddaughter-in-law instead.”
ChiChi was very happy, too. When she crossed over, it was a new experience even though she died before. She didn’t have memories of that brief period she was dead except flashes of moments. She didn’t remember waiting in line with floating spirits except for a brief second she remembered being at eye level of a floating spirit. She had a body this time and couldn’t recall having one the first time she died. When she met King Yemma the first time, she was alone. This time, Son Gohan was waiting for her.
After her judgment, she went with him and explored the afterlife. She learned her father, even though he changed, wasn’t able to keep his body and were the many floating spirits. It was sad but ChiChi was happy knowing her father was with her mother. With Son Gohan as her guide, ChiChi wasn’t alone and very happy. She traveled the afterlife with him, met different people and shared stories of Goku and his great-grandsons.
“I enjoy spending time with you, too. You’re the only one who knew my Goku before and after his accident. It’s been cathartic talking to you about him. I never had this connection talking about Goku with anyone.”
“There were times Goku drove me up the walls before and after he hit his head. So, I know what you went through with him, and when he was dead, I gave him a piece of my mind on his decision to stay dead.”
ChiChi imagined that wasn’t pleasant for Goku. From stories Goku told her, to spending time with him personally, ChiChi learned Son Gohan was kind but was a stern and tough man with odd quirks. “I thank you for that because Goku was a changed man when he returned. He treated me differently but those seven years made both of us grow up.”
Son Gohan expected it would and he was very grateful to learn Goku had returned to the living and wouldn’t return for a long time. “And you had a much longer and even happier life: you saw your sons marry, have grandkids and even great-grandchildren.”
Now it was ChiChi fondly smiling. She lived a long and eventful life. When Goku died at the Cell Game, she didn’t see this ending for herself. She thought she would’ve died a decade or two earlier. She thought Goku returning gave more years to her life and let her see her family blossom into a long and healthy line. “Yes. Yes, we did.
“Goku’s a bit thickhead but once I explained it, he understood. He promised he will be waiting for you when you crossed over.”
“But instead of Goku, you were waiting.” ChiChi never questioned it then but now she was curious. “Why were you waiting? I mean, how did you know I will be there?”
“After Goku returned to the living, I knew the next time he crossed over, he will be alone. Before he came with Kami on Earth and King Kai. I didn’t want Goku to be alone so the next time I saw Fortune Teller Baba, I told her to let me know when Goku crosses over so I can greet him. When she told me you were crossing over I knew Goku wouldn’t want you to be alone, so I came.” As Son Gohan said this, something caught his eyes behind him. “And it seems I wasn’t alone in that idea.”
ChiChi turned to see Fortune Teller Baba floating on her crystal ball. She saw the sage mystic some time ago and while she couldn’t ask Baba of her family, she made a request. “It’s time?”
“He just crossed over.”
Third time’s the charm I guess.
Goku mused to himself as he waited in line to check-in at King Yemma’s palace. Goku felt more at peace with dying this time than he did with Cell. There were no loose strings. No regrets. No need to stay dead to protect everyone. The future was secured. His family was happy and Earth no longer needed him and has been taking care of herself for many years.
Son Goku was truly done. In the last year of his life, he went on a farewell tour. He visited friends he made throughout his life. Upa, Suno and of course Eighter were still alive. Some, Yamcha and Yajirobe had already passed on but those who were still alive, Goku chatted and recalled the days and adventures of their youth. One of the hardest goodbyes Goku made was to Master Roshi. Both knew Goku’s visit will be his last. It was hard for Master Roshi as he will keep on living and spend the next several years saying goodbye to everyone who made the last seventy years very exciting for him.
When his tour was done, Goku spent his last month with his sons, Gohan and Goten. Father and son went fishing together, camping and hike through Mount Paozu. The sons listened to Goku's adventures when he was a kid. Sometimes Goku repeated the same stories due to his declining mind but Gohan and Goten pretended it was the first time they heard it.
On his last day, Goku knew this was it. It was a feeling he had that felt stronger today than other days. It was time to go. So, he went to ChiChi’s grave to speak one last time to the slab of stone. He told her he will see her soon. He asked Gohan for a big family dinner. It was last minute to get all fourteen members of the Son Family together but Gohan made it happen.
There, Goku had dinner with his sons, their wives and children and their spouses and great-grandchildren. Goku hugged and said goodbye to each one. It was more emotional and bittersweet for Gohan and Goten for they suspected their father’s time on Earth was coming to an end. After dinner, Gohan asked Goku to stay the night but Goku declined, saying he will sleep in his own bed. That night, Goku walked the short path from Gohan’s house to his, but before going inside, he went into Grandpa Gohan’s home. The old shack was a national landmark in his eyes. He expected it to be here long after he, his sons, their children and grandchildren are gone.
Goku recalled sitting on Grandpa Gohan’s lap and listening to his stories. He remembered the times Grandpa was stern with him. If Goku wanted to eat, he had to earn it through Grandpa Gohan’s rigorous training. He sat on the futon he shared with Grandpa, recalling the talks they had before they slept and laughing at himself as a child at the position he slept on Grandpa’s lap. He’ll miss this place but as Goku left the shack, he smiled.
Grandpa, I’ll see you soon.
When he entered his home, Goku readied himself to say goodbye to every room. He stood in his kitchen for an hour, soaking in all the memories his family made in this room: the meals, the laughs, sneaking out food behind ChiChi’s back and even the arguments. All were fond memories now. With one last parting, Goku went upstairs.
Goku entered Gohan’s old room. A swarm of memories surrounded Goku. The memories in this room with Gohan came after he returned from the dead after Majin Boo. The family upgraded their small dome home to one with a bigger dome. He didn’t have the memories of his old home where he encouraged Gohan to put down his books and play with him outside or the nights he slept in here on a rocking chair holding Gohan as a baby. In this room, he remembered times from Gohan’s teen years: talking with him before prom, sitting on his bed watching Gohan practice his Valedictorian speech from high school graduation and the serious father and son talk they had the night Gohan proposed to Videl.
Goku went to Goten’s room next. He tucked Goten in this room the first night in their new capsule home. He told Goten many bedtime stories of his life as they played catch up after his seven years apart. It was in this room, Goku gave Goten his haircut when Goten decided to change his style. Here, Goku and Gohan had the hilarious and uncomfortable talk of Goten’s discovery of girls, Goten’s first date and the day of his wedding.
When Goku left Goten’s room, he walked down the hallway towards the room he shared with ChiChi. He passed a wall of family pictures: wedding photos of Goku and ChiChi, Gohan and Goten with their wives; baby photos of Gohan and Goten, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; family group photos in and outside the house, at Gohan and Goten’s home and at Gyu-Mao’s castle.
There was an air of relief when Goku entered his bedroom. Even though their homes changed over the years, the memories were still with Goku. He remembered watching ChiChi shyly step out of their bathroom, dressed in lingerie and hoping she is desirable to him. He thought of the first time they made love; the many times after as they learned and love the emotions intimacy brought out of them; the late-night talks they had of their past. There were happy times, sad and worrying times. Goku remembered the night he returned from Yardrat; how ChiChi was angry was with him for the news of the Androids and hurting her. He remembered the night before the Cell Game where their second son was created. Goku remembered holding a tearful ChiChi and promising her Cell will be defeated. He remembered the tearful reunion the night he returned seven years later; the joy of talking of their first grandchild, their second; their third….
When it came time to say goodbye to ChiChi, it wasn’t a time of sadness. In Goku’s eyes, ChiChi was leaving to set up their permanent home. His last words to her before she died were: “I’ll see you soon.”
As Goku laid in bed counting down to close his eyes forever, one more time, he looked around the room that surrounded him with so much love and happiness. He looked at the pictures on his walls of him and ChiChi, Gohan and Goten. In his hands, were a photo of Goku and ChiChi on their wedding day.
He lived a happy, adventurous and long life but Son Goku was ready for this chapter to end.
As he closed his eyes, he thought of the one he will see and smiled.
ChiChi, I’m coming home.
Goku stepped up next in line. “Hi again, King Yemma!”
“Goku,” King Yemma perused his book. He read Goku’s long list of good deeds again. “You’re back again. For good this time?”
Goku confirmed with a nod. “Yup.”
“You know the drill and I am a God of my word…..”
Goku smiled aware of what he and King Yemma agreed on. From the corner of his eye, he saw her.
ChiChi stood in front of a side entrance. “ChiChi!”
Goku ran to ChiChi, picked her in his arms and swung her around before settling ChiChi on her feet and placing a passion-filled kiss on ChiChi’s lips in front of King Yemma, his assistance and the line of floating spirits behind them.
When they parted, Goku looked ChiChi up and down. Head to toe, she had her body and looked as youthful and beautiful as she was in the early days of their marriage. “You’re here and you have your body.”
“So, do you,” ChiChi admired Goku’s youthful face again. No white hair. No wrinkles. No age spots. He looked as young as he did in his prime. She kissed him. “Thank you.”
“For King---”
“No,” ChiChi shook her head. “For letting me go first.”
“Ah,” Goku grinned, “it was nothing, ChiChi. It was my time to wait.”
“Well, we don’t have to wait for each other anymore.” Happy tears rolled down her cheek. “We’re together… forever.”
“Forever,” Goku promised. “Forever.”

When Love Hits You
For Day one of GoChi Week 2020
Prompt: College Au
Chi-Chi’s first day on campus is not going the way she expected.
Her head whips sideways as something solid comes out of nowhere and hits her on the right side of her head. Chi-Chi wobbles, brain swimming as dots and stars dance across her vision. Her roommate Lazuli is thankfully there to catch her before she trips over, holding her by the elbow and waist as Chi-Chi regains her balance.
“Hey! Are you okay?” She hears someone yell, presumably the person who threw whatever it was at her. She looks down at her feet and sees it’s a football. Figures.
“I think you might have given her a concussion.”
Chi-Chi looks up to see who Lazuli is talking to, and sees a jock in an orange t-shirt running towards them from across the lawn of the frat house, looking concerned as he stops in front of them. He’s hot, she thinks absurdly, noting this unimportant detail in spite of or because of the possible concussion.
“I’m really sorry,” he says, picking up the football with a frown on his too-handsome face. “I think I overdid it.”
“Nah, it’s my fault. I should’ve caught it," a different voice says.
It’s only then she notices the other person next to them, a short jock with a shaved head who is also wearing an orange t-shirt. He seems to be more focused on Lazuli than in addressing Chi-Chi. Not surprising, considering Lazuli is a knock-out, but he can at least express more concern for the situation than drooling over her friend, since if he’d caught the damn thing her head wouldn’t have done it for him.
Suddenly, a swell of anger rises to bubble out of her mouth.
“Be careful where you aim that thing! There are students walking up and down this sidewalk, you know.”
She regrets yelling immediately as it brings another throb to her headache. Not only that, but the hot guy flinches away like a scolded puppy at her outburst, and Chi-Chi is reminded that it was only an accident.
Chi-Chi would’ve expected a jock like him to reply with something snarky, something excusing his careless disregard for student safety, but instead he twists his eyebrows remorsefully as he scratches his temple in a nervous gesture.
“I’m sorry. If there’s anything I can do to help…”
“We’re good. Come on, let’s get you to the infirmary.”
Lazuli begins to pull Chi-Chi away, quickly raking her eyes over the shorter of the two jocks with a a look of mild interest.
As Lazuli guides her away to the campus medical facility, Chi-Chi casts her eyes over her shoulders, seeing that the two men are still staring at them as they walk away.
The good news is that she doesn’t have a concussion. The bad news is, she now has a rather large lump on the side of her head. She presses an ice pack against it as she watches the students trickle into the classroom, wondering why her first day of college had to start off like this.
She's been looking forward to life on campus since she got accepted to this university, and while Chi-Chi wasn't expecting it to be perfect, she also wasn't expecting to get decked in the head by a wayward football.
Incidentally, the last student to wander into the classroom happens to be the very guy who happened to throw that football, his eyes widening and mirroring hers when he spots her sitting next to the only seat available.
He then bashfully smiles at her as he takes his seat next to her, smelling like sweat and soap.
“Um. Hi. How are you doing?” His tone is slightly nervous, but it’s also friendly and sounds genuinely concerned.
Chi-Chi can tell just by looking at him that he's probably a popular guy both around and outside of campus, because he is not only good-looking, but actually seems like a nice person. Careless, maybe a bit meathead-y, but nice.
With a roll of her eyes, she indicates the ice pack pressed against her head. “I’ll live.”
He smiles, a simple tug of lips that somehow make him look even more handsome. “Can I make it up to you somehow?”
Before she can even conceive up a proper response to that, the professor walks in, introducing himself simply as ‘Whis.’
Because it’s a small class, Professor Whis has the students go around and briefly introduce themselves, having them say their name along with a few random facts about themselves.
When it's the hot jock's turn, she can practically see hearts dancing in front of some of the students' eyes as he waves at all of them with a look in his face that can light up an entire stadium.
“Hi, I’m Goku. I like football and kung fu movies."
That’s it. That’s all he says, and it’s the only name among her fellow classmates that Chi-Chi is going to remember.
“So, Chi-Chi, was it? Where’s your next class? Can I walk you there?”
The other students are filing out, the class having been dismissed mere seconds ago. Chi-Chi slings her heavy book bag over her shoulders, her mouth parted in astonishment at his inquiry.
Throughout the lecture, he’d been stealing glances at her, trying his best to be subtle but failing to be so because she would catch him staring at her nearly every time she looked his way. Which in turn, means that she also was staring, but it’s only because he was doing it in the first place.
Chi-Chi brushes off these furtive glances as nothing more than his guilt for having thrown a football at her head, and nothing else.
Sure, Chi-Chi is aware that she is objectively pretty, but she’s not drop-dead gorgeous like Lazuli, or classically beautiful like her other housemate, Bulma. She’s just pretty. She's the girl next door type that guys won’t turn their heads for on the street but might smile at from across a library or gym.
Unlike Goku, who’s not only turning heads, but is also probably causing whiplashes, and not just because he threw a football at their head.
A guy like him can get the kind of women you’ll see in the front covers of swimsuit magazines, so she really shouldn’t feel flattered that he’s walking her to her class, or that he offers to carry her book bag (which he does), or that he hasn’t stopped smiling since she accepted to let him walk her to her next class.
Her brain starts to conjure up excuses as to why he's being so friendly with her. Maybe he has an underlying motive. Maybe he wants her to be his next lay. Or maybe, again, he simply has guilt about what happened earlier and feels obliged to be extra nice to her. Neither of these motives are appealing to her, so she cuts him off mid-sentence while he’s rambling about classic kung-fu films, saying that she’s gotta hurry or she'll be late.
His expression is startled as she grabs her book bag back from him and then runs off to her next class, wondering why she's like this.
It doesn't take long before they're reunited again, and it's only a few hours later on in the evening at a party their sister house is hosting.
"Hello again," he says as he sits next to her on the couch, holding a water bottle instead of a red plastic cup like everyone else in this house is.
Everyone but her, and evidently him.
"Hey," she says back, feeling a kick in her chest as he looks at her with that perfect, disarming smile of his. It's probably felled thousands before her, and she's determined that she won't fall victim to it. She won't.
There are people all around them who are absolutely trashed. Grinding against each other as hip hop booms out the speakers. Playing beer pong and other silly little drinking games. Making out in the corners and wherever else they feel like.
Meanwhile, here they are, two sober individuals who keep running into each other and are basically forced to interact.
"How come you're sitting all alone here? Your head still hurt?"
Chichi laughs sarcastically through her nose. "I have class in the morning and don't wanna show up with a hangover. But I can't sleep, either, because I live here."
"Oh, this is your party?"
"Not my party. My housemate Bulma's party. She wanted to end the first day of college with a bang, and everyone else agreed with her. Majority vote ruled, so I had to go along with it."
It's an amazing coincidence that this new roommate of hers, Bulma, also happens to be childhood best friends with this cute boy sitting beside her, a cute boy who just doesn't seem to want to leave her alone as he invites her out to sushi.
Between having to stay here and practically yell over the music with the stench of alcohol in the air, and going out for sushi with who may actually be the most attractive man she's ever met, she'll take the latter choice, thank you.
It's a decision she doesn't regret as the two of them walk side by side to his dorm room, their bellies full and hearts content.
At first she was reluctant to go along with him, thinking Goku was insinuating something by offering his bed so that she can actually get some sleep for tomorrow. It’s not that she’s a prude. Chi-Chi is simply not the kind of girl to have a one-night stand with a person she just met, no matter how handsome he is. In fact, she’s still a virgin, and the only other times she’s kissed boys has been on dates that never go anywhere.
So maybe she’s a little bit of a prude, but is that such a bad thing? Perhaps it’s time to shed her virginal layer, to cut a little loose on this new, exciting chapter in her life. She’s devoted her life long enough to being a responsible, disciplined student and well-behaved daughter. Maybe it’s time to live a little, and let things take their course to something more adventurous than having her nose stuck to a book.
His room is small and modest, with the most notable thing in it being the collection of retro video tapes of kung fu films sorted out randomly on a bookshelf . There’s also a poster of Bruce Lee taped on one of the walls, and Chi-Chi realizes with a start that Goku kind of, sort of resembles that classic movie star and kung fu master, except that Goku's buffer and arguably even more handsome.
Her pulse is racing as she sits on this futon, watching as he picks out one of the movies in his collection. He’s so excited to share his passion with her that she can feel the moment his smile lances her right in the heart. He’s not even trying to be smooth at this point. He’s totally geeking out and it reminds her of how she behaves when she gets started about literature.
As the night progresses they end up inching closer together, until his arm is wrapped around her shoulders and she’s all but stopped paying attention to the movie and is instead paying attention to the warmth of his body, to his beautiful profile that is like if someone carved it out of a dream.
Out of nowhere, she feels something soft and gentle kiss the right side of her head, on the lump that she had forgotten was there.
“Sorry again for hitting you with a football. But can I admit something? It was kind of funny.”
He laughs as Chi-Chi playfully slaps him on one of his pecs, noticing with surprised delight just how firm it is as she agrees and laughs along with him.
Chi-Chi doesn’t lose her virginity that night, and that’s okay, because being wrapped around in his arms like this is even better, feeling his heartbeat against her back as they cuddle on his cramped, uncomfortable futon, feeling something warmer inside her begin to spread like the light of a thousand lit candles.
Maybe her first day of college didn’t start out perfectly, but it sure is ending in the highest possible note.
