@goatskickin replied to your post “that was easier than I expected lol”:
go on! i am curious how you built this
I looked at this photo for reference first - All my recent builds have been based on a photo, not to make it 1:1 identical but using the ideas I've shared before, where it gives me the shape/concept I want then I run with it based on TS2's limitations
The foundation I used was the Split-Level Interior one, because I'm not 100% certain without playtesting but that might be the only foundation that sims can functionally play instruments on top of while the audience watches from the ground floor, instead of having them walk up onto the stage to react to the music lol
With MoveObjects and SetQuarterTilePlacement I put 2 of the two-story columns from Pets in each corner; One side is angled and the other is flat so I had to flip them around until the flat sides were in the corners
Then I put a bunch of them all over the stage so it'd let me place tiles above; I only needed them in the outermost edges but it was faster to just fill the whole thing first
I used a few rows of the fencing from H&M that looks like lights
Then for the rest of the surrounding edges I used the Genuine Railway Tie Fencing, and to copy the look of the photo I did zigzags between the edges
After all the fencing was placed I deleted the flooring
I added 2 stories of walls on the back of the stage, and to cover up the raw edges of the wall I put another 2-story Pets column on each side
With the walls placed, I had access to the tiles on the "floor" below where the fencing was so I could put the OFB ceiling track lights right underneath it (with SetQuarterTilePlacement)
Aaaand that's about it in terms of building! Everything else was just aesthetic with the corrugated metal paneling, and the curtain thing on the back is a wallpaper also under Paneling called "Lovely Fabric" lol

F and R (I love your style 🥺)
Whaa?? But I love YOUR style, it's seriously a big inspiration to me-! If I didn't have so many self-imposed limitations on adding new meshes to my game I would have everything you've ever made I think LMAO
F: Gameplay With or Without Cheats
It depends!! In my head I think of myself as not using any cheats at all, but I think other people would disagree, lol. I use a lot of mods that change game behaviour in some ways people might consider to make the game "easier" (or at least, less annoying) - is that cheating? Before starting this Legacy I was a hopeless save scummer, so is that also a kind of cheating? Technically I'm inputting "cheats" all the time; even in the case of something like moveobjects, you could argue that placing more objects in a space than are "allowed" to be in there is a form of cheating - stretching the intentional limitations of the game's grid system.
But by and large, most of how I modify the game is to make it HARDER, lol, or at least to me. I don't use money cheats; I don't max motives; I don't cheat for skill points or career rewards or aspirations; I don't age Sims up earlier than should be possible (if that is also considered a form of cheating in TS2); And I have tried to push myself not to save scum and to let my game and its happy accidents just happen, even if the results are devastating, because it's more interesting that way. If my Sims pass out and pee their pants and have an awful wedding party and set fire to their grandpa and fail their semester and forget to pay the bills and get a demotion and have their kids taken away by the social worker, and it's not because of some glitch or mod or conflict, then I try to just sit back and enjoy the show. And it's made playing TS2 much more enjoyable for me!
R: Cartoony or Realistic Sims?
I don't think it's any surprise to hear that I prefer a cartoony aesthetic in my game (sorry to all the clay haters but I think vanilla TS4 looks beautiful actually) BUT I really admire realistic Sim aesthetics too! I think it's easier for them to fall into the "uncanny valley", but I'm super, super impressed and in awe of Simmers who can pull together and style cohesively realistic Sims and worlds.
The main reason I prefer a cartoony/Maxis Match aesthetic in TS2 is because it allows me to keep my game light, lol. I do genuinely like a lot of EAxis textures (like hair) but if I could default replace everything without bloating my game, I probably would go even cartoonier. I'm still lowkey fiddling with a low-poly, flat aesthetic for TS2. And I admire people who push their own games even more cartoonishly than Maxis did. But for me, MM all the way!

🍮 Favorite thing to do in the sims?
This may be a obvious, but just playing? I enjoy decorating (even building on ocassion) and making cc (especially when trying to make something new and it finally works 😎), but nothing brings as much enjoyment as having a lot of sims in the same lot and watch chaos ensue 😁

This is my response to this post by @goatskickin - a second version. That's the best way to desaturate hair texture or other stuff with alpha transparency ( thanks @paluding).
Desaturate or Hue/Saturation often makes textures crunchy.
You'll get best results if you create plain black layer and set blend mode to Color. Adjust Opacity as needed. In case of alpha stuff you also need to create Clipping mask.
When doing color actions on hair textures (or anything else) - if Hue/Saturation adjustment layer step does -83 Saturation (for example), instead you can do what I described above and set black layer Opacity to 83%.
Also, use SimPE to build textures as DXT5, do not rely on Bodyshop 'cuz it will always f*ck it up.
