MONEY GAME
While I have said I am likely to move away from the storyline aspect of my game, I would still like to add this to my blog.
Money Game is a series of 3 songs released by independent artist Ren Gill. He is one of my favourite artists personally, and I think some of his music shares some themes with both my game and the Just Cause & Far Cry trilogies.
Money Game
Money Game is the first song in the series, and discusses topics such as capitalism and immigration. The first verse briefly touches on greed and capitalism within governments, seen in the lines "Hierarchy parties, they make us feel inferior" and "Greed runs through the parliament interior". I believe these lines are specifically talking about members of parliament who are more interested in personal gain through profits than the best interests of the people they represent.
The next few lines, which I will quote below, reference the unique ability money has to turn innocent people into greedy capitalists.
Money was invented for trade But now those bits of paper twist hearts, make slaves Turns a saint into a sinner, a child into a killer His finger on the trigger of a money game
These lines make reference to the fact that humans invented money for the purposes of trade, but in modern societies, people are more concerned with their wealth than feelings and other people - I.e., we are living in a selfish and greedy society. This ties in very closely with the capitalism found in General Di Ravello, in Just Cause 3, as he obviously cares more about power and money than his people (he burns an entire town down to gain profits).
The song also touches on hypocrisy and hatred, especially in the lines "When did freedom become a reason to hate? A way to justify a racial slur or insult we make?", referencing how people are so quick to hate people and attack them (whether emotionally or physically), just because they are given the chance. This again ties in with themes in Just Cause and Far Cry.
youtube
Money Game: Part 2
Money Game: Part 2, being the second song in the trilogy, uses a similar tune and the same chorus as part 1, except it elaborates on the themes using humorous and funny techniques. The best example of this is Ren using the familiar "tongue twister" - "She sells sea shells on the sea shore", as a literary device and twists it to discuss capitalism and greed.
She sells seashells on a seashore But the value of these shells will fall Due to the laws of supply and demand No one wants to buy shells 'cause there's loads on the sand
Step one, you must create a sense of scarcity Shells will sell much better if the people think they're rare, you see Bear with me, take as many shells as you can find and hide 'em On an island stockpile 'em high until they're rarer than a diamond
This sense of presenting dark themes such as capitalism and corruption using jocular and whimsical devices is a particular interest of my project, and also can be seen in Just Cause (the entire franchise) and several Far Cry games. In Just Cause 3, this is seen in the fact that there are plenty of humorous weapons and vehicles for the player to use.
The song is also somewhat ironic, as it shows that something as innocent as a nursery rhyme can be twisted into something that represents greed and capitalism.
youtube
Money Game: Part 3
Money Game: Part 3 is obviously the third addition to the trilogy, and uses a new tune and theme. This time, the song follows the life of a boy called Jimmy, who is abnormally intelligent, and how his opinions were affected by foreign influence, and the negative impacts that this had on him.
The song has no chorus, and is played on only a select few instruments, and is also performed live in the music video - also, no autotune is used and the audio tracks are not altered. I believe this was done intentionally to show that the topics that the song is discussing is very much real and a genuine problem in today's society.
Firstly, the song mentions that Jimmy has been indoctrinated with the ideology that (quote) "Money is the means to all ends" from a young age, by his father. This shows that capitalism and greed is an ideology that is learned, and not a natural human instinct.
Throughout the song, Jimmy (the character being described) gradually descends from being genuinely successful to greedy, capitalistic and corrupt. I particularly find the quote "If you manipulate the data, then the lie will sell itself" interesting as it also shows the harsh realities of today's society.
Towards the end of the song, the music stops, and Ren talks about the fact that the song "Isn't entertainment" and how it is "real life".
This isn't entertainment, this is real life, the way we live is lunacy, community it declines, We're hyperpolarized, we're always fighting and we divide Truth is less important than the money that we designed? Money's an invention, politics from our invention, they all come from people's ideas, Did I mention border's an invention? Law and order fuels the tension, that leads to people killing each other?
This also interests me because it further elaborates on the fact that capitalism and corruption are real issues and seriously happen within society. This is particularly useful to me, as it also shows that such subjects must be handled sensitively and with consideration to those affected by such wrongdoings.

One of Di Ravello’s favorite books is Sun Tzu’s The Art of War. He considers himself a great military commander along the vein of such conquerors, so he likes reading it when he’s got nothing better to do. It’s pretty ironic that he obviously hasn’t taken any of its advice on not letting your temper get the better of you

Apprentice Week - Family
- Apprentice Week 2018 - 19/4 -
FAMILY: What was their family like?
Áine comes from a big family, one that I didn’t have time to draw, so I’ll defer to writing about them for this theme. At least the people closest to Áine [I am way behind]
Whether she remembers them or not, I have a lot of emotions for the Braudel’s. There’s some good angst to be had in not knowing your family.
Note; An important element to her story and family is Adoption. I often include this is many of my oc’s backstories not out of convenience but from personal experience. Creating characters who adopt or are adopted has helped me a lot.
Enough about that, time to meet the Braudel’s.
The Braudel Family homestead can be found in a small town called Ferrendi, in the flatlands beyond Vesuvia, perhaps an hour or so if travelling on horseback. Orignally the Braudel’s were simple farmers, dealing in general agriculture, but over the generations they branched into stud farming, breeding high quality horses with the support of the local Viscount of Ferrendi. While the demand for their horses has gradually decreased in these times of peace, they still continue the family traditions and are well respected in their community.
Altan Braudel -  a man of formidable size and generous heart. Hardworking and steadfast, he is the current head of the family, beloved by all who know him. He is always willing to help someone in need, a trait which his children, particularly Áine, inherited.  Altan has some magical talent to his name, able to soothe and sense the emotions of animals in his care.
Tara Ammani Braudel - wife of Altan, beautiful and loving. Originally from Prakra, Tara and her sister Mira came to Vesuvia in their teens, eventually marrying and starting their own businesses. Tara works as the personal seamstress for the local Viscount of Ferrendi. Like her husband, she too has some magical talent, albeit limited, she uses this to aid in her sewing. Even though Áine is not her child by blood, she loved her unconditionally.
“You didn’t grow under my heart, you grew in it.”
Ravello “Ravel” Braudel - a stern-faced young man, Ravel is much more reserved in comparison to the rest of his family. He is very dedicated to his work on the farm and is set to inherit. He’s comically protective of his sisters and shares his sisters fondness for Limoncello. He is still unmarried which is unusual given his age and status.
Anisedora “Anis” Balvanis - a magically talented seamtress living in Vesuvia, known for her passion, humour and no nonsense personality. Like her mother and aunt before her, she and her younger sister Áine left their home and moved to Vesuvia to pursue their magical talents. However, both of them never expected to meet such adversity on their path. Anis gave up on her education, instead falling back on her sewing skills. She would go on to perfect her mother’s secret technique for enchanting clothing, which led to her very successful business.
She is married to a baker named Balvan and they have a young son named Azel. In Balvan’s tribe it is a custom for a new family to combine their names to act as a surname. Balvanis is therefore a combination of their names.
Mira Ammani Petras - the older sister of Tara, proprietress of a Magic and Fortune telling shop in Vesuvia, estranged wife of the magician Marusar “Marus” Petras. Mira and Marus had been estranged for over 20 years, but there seemed to be no bad blood between them, although Mira was exasperated by Marus and his whims. They had no children of their own. After Marus passed away, Mira left the shop to her niece Áine and moved to Ferrendi to live with her sister.
Marusar ‘Marus’ Petras - The wandering Magician, a man who always lived for freedom. While he loved his wife dearly, he was never able to settle down for too long, which lead to them becoming estranged. Some 20 years ago, he came across a mysterious young girl on his travels, eventually rescuing her and leaving her in the care of his sister-in-law. Marus died on his travels 5 years before the Arcana story begins.
Regarding the Memory loss situation. Only Balvan and Anis know. And it breaks their hearts that Áine doesn’t remember them. Balvan and Anis are careful and check up on Áine regularly, acting as casual and friendly with her as they can. It’s more difficult for Anis. Little Azel still accidentally calls her ‘Auntie’ from time to time, the first time it happened it caused Áine to pass out from the pain.
Anis has made the elaborate excuse that Áine and her partner Asra have gone on a long journey, much like Marus would in the past. It was enough to appease her parents, although her brother Ravel knows she’s lying.
That’s all I can include for now. I’m surprised by how much I wrote. It might not be the best but it will suffice, I was struggling with names for ages.

‘FOW’ officially stands for ‘Flames of War’, as named by the General himself in reference to his beloved flames. However, some younger soldiers like to jokingly call these bavarium-augmented weapons “Fuck Off Weapons”. Di Ravello doesn’t approve of that nickname

I love the idea of all the events of the just cause games happening and Rico taking down the agency, then Garland roping in everyone who was there at the time in universe to play themselves in 5 movies. They are basically the games, but films.
She shows Ricos escape from medici, his training, his brief romance with Maria Kane, a small sequence showing the Guatemala mission (in which Rico saves Dimah in the field, it was mentioned in JC3), like all the things that happened in universe but weren't shown, and all of the events of just cause.
Imagine the amount of banter everyone would have on set, Rico would do ALL of his stunts because, in his logic, why pay someone when he can do it all already?
It would just be a great time
