I went and made myself sad.
What if 2023 Wonka's initial succession plan was to leave the factory to Noodle, but she died before him? Which contributes to the melancholy we see in 1971 Wonka (compounded by people lying and stealing from him, of course)

So I know Timotheé Chalamet is an American-French actor and Wonka is supposed to be a prequel to the 1971 Gene Wilder film, so it is now my headcanon that Wonka speaks French from time to time

Something that occurred to me upon my second watch of 2023 Wonka:
Willy drops his last silver sovereign in the drain. Charlie finds the money to purchase the chocolate bar that changes his life...::drumroll::...in the drain.
I absolutely love all the tiny parallels to 1971 Wonka, like the three steps backwards on the stairs, or the waggling of the eyebrows.
