I was your zecret santa this year and this is my gift for you. I hope you like it.
I was very tempted, at first, to opt for Luna's prompt, cause i really enjoyed the theme. But once i read the C Team prompt, i could see a mini idea in my head and that's what i tried to portray here: a little joke with the pantry and rec room in ZTD, with Junpei head as the top of the Christmas tree 🤭.
I had some difficulty finishing the gift due to lack of time on my part, but, even so, I hope you like the result. It was a pleasure to make this gift!

I need you to know I adore your art and you're currently CARRYING the 999 fandom in these trying times. I only played the game this year and the fandom is kinda non-existent so your blog gives me life🙏
Loving the leverage au too! Question: thoughts on aoipei? I liked them a lot before I found out Aoi and Akane were siblings and now I'm trying to get their dynamic to work after that, but it's tough work 😔
oh you flatterer. thats kind of you to say BUT i would be remiss if i didnt give credit to the other amazing artists in this fandom!!! go chuck a follow to @mortellanarts, @gaulemtypefemale-dm-l-016, @sinlizards and @handsometimr. i also gotta shout out my besties @kaetor and @argentsunshine (who has done some santas for this blog before!). the fandom's actually bigger than you might expect for a game that came out over 10 years ago, if anyone else wants to throw some artist recommendations in the replies PLEASE do. these blogs were just the first that popped into my head there are so many more amazing people whos urls i cant think of rn.
AS FOR AOIPEI. they fascinate me so much. my favourite version of their dynamic is in the safe end, with them kind of being fucked up codependent toxic haters at each other. buuuut theres also a fun universe in the vlr timeline with them and light as three weed smoking grandpas. one time kaetor described them as "fundamentally aoi and junpei are very similar people who care about the same things but also in any universe where akane is alive and in their lives they just hate each other". theyre both silly i like them a lot <3

5c) If you were in 999 and had to choose a codename for yourself, what would you choose?
i asked my brother what number suited me the most and he said 2, so... maybe something like Gemini or Orange. Gemini because i like constellations and myths, and Orange bc its the 2nd colour of the rainbow and my fav color :)
possible codenames: Magus, Gemini/Orange, Tatlo, Quarter, Blue, Hex, Week, August, (Tic-)Tac
5d) Do you consider Another Time to be canon? If so, do you have any theories on ?’s identity?
I think it’s canon! the thing is though... i get really confused when people say they expected kyle to be in ZTD? like it was pretty clear to me by the end of the section that ? is just supposed to be you, the player...
the body that kyle mustve transferred into was your body, with what i assume is the knowledge of what happens in the other timelines in VLR somehow like sigma, phi, and akane. since technically youd assume that the player is playing the games in order (999, VLR, ZTD), and Another Time being at the end of the game means that kyles duty in VLR, which is not only existing as a failsafe for sigma, but also to play in the Ambidex Game and be part of its events in multiple timelines, is over, so he gets transferred by the end of the game, before Another End. the reason why ? is so disoriented in VLR and knows things they shouldnt is something similar to sigmas weird non-linear lifetime timeline. if kyle was sent to the past, then hed likely be talking about his past, which is in the future, in a roundabout way...
akane even says that kyle is necessary, but he got sent into someone else’s body completely at random? and she also says ? will be sent into the past, to ZTD, so im p sure that she means that your physical body will be playing ZTD with the weird timeline knowledge kyle has, simply because you played VLR.
it doesnt make much sense, but the fact that akane says that ? has the ability to make their reality be whatever they think it should be, it’s pretty obvious that they’re the player to me. we can draw as many conclusions as we want, even rewriting their reality, the Zero Escape canon, if we really wanted to.
.................but the timeframe necessary is that your physical body should exist in 2028.................... eh whatever it is a Mystery

Sexuality Headcanon: Well it's not really headcanon, he's bi and there's nothing you can do about it <3
Gender Headcanon: Gender nonconforming he/they dude that often goes over the top with acessorizing and honestly good for him I too will die if I am perceived without a tiara, scarf, gloves and earrings all at once
A ship I have with said character: @gaulemtypefemale-dm-l-016 talked my ear off about Aoilight once and completely sold me on the two. I'm not big on shipping but I want good things for Aoi and they're really cute and snakegay so like yeah I really enjoy this one
A BROTP I have with said character: Him and Phi! I read a fic once that had a bit about them getting along and forming a friendship based on being the only blatantly queer people in the crash keys meetings, and I love that for them lol
A NOTP I have with said character: Him and Clover... I won't tag my friend they haven't been active in forever but we've talked about this So Many Times lmao. They really like the two together and whatever good for them but?? I can't?? There was even one time we were on a freaking field trip bus and they were trying to make this pairing make sense and I was absolutely losing my mind. It was a ton of fun lol. Anyways, yeaaah.. she axe murdered him and he called her a stupid bitch while holding a gun, not my definition of romance
A random headcanon: I came up with this literally yesterday or so cause of the whole health thing I had, but like, I can see him giving himself a scar from scratching the syringe mark too much in the aftermath of the first nonary game
General Opinion over said character: Gotta be one of my top comfort characters of all time, no joke, don't wanna give away this bit of my tragic backstory so like, what can I say, seeing this story from his perspective just means a lot to me. The system and general life circumstances were never kind but he was just that stubborn and determined to find a way for their little family of two to be happy again despite all the compromises, like, being the older sibling as well sure helps appreciate some stuff going on there mostly the willingness to commit a crime in retaliation. Also I genuinely love that he's, by his own words, just a secretary and there for support lol
Okay now for the girl boss half of the dynamic duo
Sexuality Headcanon: Idk never thought about it much, she comes across to me like as someone who's not necessarily aroace but will not give a crap about picking a label because she doesn't give a crap about getting in a relationship with, or even paying this kind of attention to anyone that's not her boi™ but who knows when they're not star-crossed anymore how she'd be about it
Gender Headcanon: Nonbinary she/her because idk I get gender vibes from her, I feel like she'd have a lot of gender feelings going on under the surface, like, idk how to explain it. Is it because my hair used to look like that and I used to dress in a lot of baggy purples and blacks? Probaby Love the idea of her weaponizing her inner gender ambiguity with the Zero stuff tho
A ship I have with said character: Junepei, for the soul, it's got so much to it and none of it is straightforward aside from the fact that they have like a bond™ I like all flavors this ship comes in, divorce wins junepei, healthy lovestruck junepei and c-team polycule
A BROTP I have with said character: I think she would be besties with Clover, they'd go shopping and pester the hell out of their big brothers together <3
A NOTP I have with said character: I honestly don't know? I haven't really seen many ships with her that aren't Junepei or super tiny and valid rarepairs... Well I don't like Sigma, some people must ship the two right, don't like it
A random headcanon: Everytime she comes across Junpei or Aoi asleep on some part of their houses she kind of stops for a moment to make sure their chests are going up and down and they're like... alive. If she didn't stare and check then the images she'd have in the corner of her eye would be a bit too bloody. She doesn't tell either of them but abruptly wakes them up from time to time
General Opinion over said character: Here's the thing, I always use the word Ambivalent to describe my opinion on her, like, specifically that word. Not neutral, ambivalent. Contradictory feelings, much like she herself is quite paradoxical. She's absolutely outstanding as a character and though she's the kind of person I know I'd loathe to have to deal with on many levels there are also so many other levels that I like, can relate to her on? Going back and playing through 999 again made me stop and realize that, It's weird, I'd be fully on board with her if her motivations didn't graduate to a generic saving the world plot later on tbh
#also I think her and Aoi should get to have a bit of an argument over continuing to deal with morphogenetic field bullshit#getting justice and saving herself in 999 is something I can read so much healing into#but continuing with this thing they were forced into is an interesting direction that I don't think would have gone without conflict#also PLEASE I love to imagine them hanging out with the Fields after Aoi and Light get together it's such a fun dynamic#the girls would have so much material to make fun of them with#Clover using the emotional blackmail of ''remember that time you kidnapped us'' to get money from Aoi for snacks or some shit#but like. Not doing that to Akane lol#also Clover would be besties with Junpei too beforehand even and Thus IMAGINE THE GOSSIP between them#ah I think that's it#thank u anon for enabling me to talk about the Kurashikis once again it is immensely appreciated#a tag for asks#zero escape

I liked your suggestion of Clover in a field of clovers, and decided to draw her laying down, enjoying a sunny day.

Happy holidays! I loved the idea of Luna in Wonderland, so I had to snap your prompts up. I based my art on two of the original illustrations for Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. I would've liked to get even more characters in (it would be fun to dress Akane up in some royal finery as Queen of Hearts or something) but I had to keep myself within realistic constraints, lol - hope you like them!

When I saw the prompt soft Eric x Mira, I knew I had to choose that one, because I feel these characters are underrated, and deserve more analysis and appreciation as characters.

This is a Zecret Santa 2020 gift for @gaulemtypefemale-dm-l-016. Sorry it’s so short and almost entirely late, the work has been hectic. Also sorry if it’s not as heartwarming as I wanted it to be,
I’m fullfilling the “Aoilight: after the second nonary game” prompt with some kind of christmas cheer I hope?

The din of a mall on christmas is deafening, three different types of christmass songs blaring out of speaker system, mothers ushering their children to be quieter as they scramble around to be the next one on Santa’s lap, disgruntled shoppers trying to get the last off their christams lists for family and friends, shop clercks chirping celebratory remarks, entirely too tired and overwoked. Even in that chaos, Light can hear Aoi’s quiet remark.
“You should hate me, you know”, the words are made ever more noticeable by a sharp tug on Light’s arm, completely unnecessary hold Aoi has on him, but Aoi said it was not to lose each other in the crowd. Aoi comes to an abrupt stop and Light, held by him, does an abortive half-step before registering the words and realising it’s another one of the Aoi’s self-hate attacks. It’s Light who carefully guides them, blindly, aside, only by sound to where they’re not likely to be swept up or bumped into by people.
Aoi is silent after that. He lowers himself and Light realises there must be a bench where Aoi sat, still not letting go of his elbow. He’s silent now, but his breathing is loud enough to Light to register even in the sounds of christmas all around them. He’s breathing hard and fast from exertion, Light is sure if he touches Aoi’s face right now it would be beaded with sweat.
It’s Light’s turn to speak now “But I don’t hate you. I never hated you”, he says, reaching for the bench to sit beside Aoi.
“I could have killed you”, Aoi breathes out, “You died so many times because of me”, he’s heaving now, struggling to form words and Light actually put’s his hand around Aoi’s shaking form.
His attacks are less frequent now, but the guilt wracks Aoi even worse than before they started dating now.
“I’m alive. I’m with you”, Light tries to speak calmly yet firmly to be heard above the crowd even without a keen sense of hearing.
Aoi shakes his head, trying to get Light’s hands off him, but Light is unyelding, soothing circles into Aoi’s back, breathing into his hair steadily, trying to make Aoi’s breathing even out with his.
“I would have done the same for Clover, you know, if not worse”, Light chuckles, realising how bad it must sound to Aoi, who’s done worse, in different place, in different times.
Light soothes his hands over Aoi’s hair, smoothing out the spikes crisp with product, draws his thumbs over Aoi’s clammy face.
“You didn’t do anything bad”, he whispers into Aoi’s hair, smelling vaguely of peppermint (or it’s the shops?)
Aoi just shakes and heaves a heavy sob, his breathing hitching on words he wants to say, he needs to say, to beg of forgiveness, to break up then and there and Light knows, knows from the countless nightmares he’s calmed down Aoi from, that it will pass.
“Do you remember why were here?” Light urges.
Aoi heaves again but this time it’s not a sob, it’s a chuckle, “Gifts”.
“Right”, Light, helps, “Gifts for our sisters because they’re alive and we’re alive and we’re going to spend Christmas together and it will be a splendid moment. No one is in danger, Aoi, not anymore, you don’t have to torture yourself”
Aoi finally relaxes in his arms a bit. “We need gifts”. He’s always like that, goal-driven, easy to forget his worries when there’s a clear path laid out before him.
“What did you want to give Akane this Christmas?”, Light urges, carefully trying to lead Aoi’s thoughts from panic, from smoke and fire and pain, so much pain.
Aoi seizes up for a moment, but then relazes again, “I usually get books”, his voice is so small, barely above a whisper, “But I always mix up what she really wants. She’s not writing Santa letters anymore, you know”, he finishes on a breath that might almost sound like a chuckle. His breathing, thankfully, is eavening out as he thinks of the person he loves most, of the person he’s been through hell and back for.
“We could buy her a gift card and she will choose her own reading material, you know”, Light proposes, still smoothing circles into Aoi’s warm face, pressing out a kiss to Aoi’s hairline, not caring if anyone would see them, exactly because she can’t see if anybody’s looking weird, and even if they are, to hell with them.
“And what are you getting Clover?”, Aoi’s voice is still shaky, but so much sure now.
“Oh, that’s why I brought you along”, Light smiles. “She wanted a new handbag and you’re going to find that hideous thing she described me going by only words in the store”.
Aoi breaks out in nervous laughter at that. What a joke they must look to busy shoppers, a punk who’s having a full blown panic-attack because he almost killed his wonderful, better-than-anyone-else always-so-perfect boyfriend.
“Okay”, he huffs, “okay, okay, okay. As an expert on terrible fashion I will help you”.
When they stand up from the bench, Aoi still clearly breathing in fours, just like Light taught him, they huddle closer together as Aoi’s unsteady legs go back into motion.
“I’m glad you’re alive”, Aoi mutters into Light’s shoulder, almost imperceptible.
“I love you, you disaster of a man”, Light replies and he’s ready to breach the crowds again, holding his boyfriends arm not because he would be blind without him, but to also ground his shaky movement.
And if light could see, he would see Aoi’s ears turn bright red above his scarf “I love you to, you smug bastard, I’m glad I didn’t kill you”.
“Of course you are”, Light lets out a small laugh “Who else would it be, yoiu had it in for me since our first meeting”.
“Right you are”, Aoi admits, though begrudgingly. “Now which store was it?”
