So at 00:22 on Christmas Day, I had a revelation.

Gaster’s a Boss Monster.

It makes perfect sense, right? Look at his stats, and the fact that he was able to even survive in the void so long. Add in his close proximity to Asgore as the Royal Scientist, and (stay with me on this) the fact that both Sans and Papyrus are extremely powerful and also implied to be Boss Monsters to some degree, of course he’s a Boss Monster!

UNDERTALE TWITTER ACCOUNT GASTERPOSTING EVERYONE LOOK HELP ME GOING INSANE INSANE

i see a lot of people in the tags of one of my most recent gasterposts lamenting the fact that we probably won't be able to rescue him from the void or whatever he's trapped in, and honestly, i know that, but... i don't think that's too terrible of a thing!

i actually do think there's a slim chance he'll appear visually in deltarune (completely baseless, but i live in hope) and thus not be nowhere for at least a short time, but i know that when all is said and done, he'll probably still be stuck in that void of his (or whatever you want to call it; limbo, nonexistence, etc, it's more of a concept). and i don't think that really matters. obviously i can't know anything due to our lack of info, but from what we've seen, he seems... happy in the deltarune announcement tweets. happy to see us, happy that we're playing his game, and excited for us to see more. it's always felt to me like we're making him very happy simply by being here and playing deltarune.

which makes sense. after all, although we don't know his motivations yet, put yourself in his shoes- if you were erased from your universe and forgotten by everyone you ever knew and loved, then the discovery that there was an entire other dimension of beings who know of you and are fascinated by you and love you and feel so sorry for you would probably be awfully comforting- and if you reach out to them hacking a twitter account and asking them to download a shady-looking program from you, an ostensible stranger, and they DO without question, i think that'd make you the happiest you've been in a hundred years.

i know gaster will probably still be in limbo by the end of deltarune, but that's okay. i think this experience is going to make him very happy, and it's going to let him know people do still care about him, and that's really all we can ask for.

as someone whose prior experience with the fandom had thoroughly burnt me out on anything to do with the undertale skeletons, your gasterposting (and the rest of the core RP gang!) brings me such joy. genuinely, reminds me of what i love about undertale
