That Bob’s Burgers bit, but it’s Fuuma hassling Seishirou
Seishirou: I just realized something. I had a bad childhood.
Fuuma: Yeah, I know.
Seishirou: What do you mean you know?
Fuuma: Look at you.
Seishirou: What do you mean, “Look at me?”
Fuuma:

Ok
Ok Seishirou
Ok both of you
Objectively speaking “That was a terrible thing to happen to me” is such a banger of a line and I love that he says it so casually, holding his broken glasses, as if like-
Like it’s PURE Seishirou. To be in this narrative of destroyed worlds and broken people and terrible heartbreak (some of which actively caused BY him) and Seishirou has one inconvenience happen to him and he’s all, oh, this was a terrible thing actually.
PEAK Seishirou sensibility.
And technically I do like that Fuuma is present to unpack the Seishirou Moment and explain what his true motives were in a way we don’t always get, even if I reject them utterly.
Tumblr media
Because THIS TOO.
And they’re both obviously terrible people willing and able to make people suffer for their own benefit, and here they are going “Oh yeah I totally let these people whose lives I’m ruining get away from me because it’s a bit of fun”, ignoring the part where they’re ruining their lives and psychologically torturing them and making them live in constant fear.
Because of course they are. It’s Seishirou and Fuuma. How else are they going to frame it?
And I OH HOW I LOATHE THEM but I’m very grumpily giving CLAMP a good grade on writing terrible people who are extremely entertaining about the whole thing.

[Image description: Four manga panels from Nabari no Ou. The first and third are from chapter 39, and the second and fourth are from chapter 70. The panels are as follows:
1. From chapter 39. Fuuma's hands playing a dating simulator on a handheld console are shown. The player character says, "I love you!" to which a girl turns back in shock and replies, "eh...!"
2. From chapter 70. Fuuma's hand is shown reaching out to Shinrabansho in a dimly lit void filled with text all over. He thinks, "I've wanted to meet you..." Shinrabansho is then shown, looking at the viewer with a plain face.
3. From chapter 39. Fuuma's handheld console now shows the same girl from before, turned away from the player completely. Text over her reads, "Bad End," and her dialogue box reads, "Your sensitivity didn't touch me. Goodbye."
4. From chapter 70. Still in the void, Shinrabansho is shown turning away from the viewer, getting more shadowed over as she does. The panel also shows Fuuma, with a hand outstretched and a shocked and desperate expression. End description]

A character profile on Fuma.
Sword of Paranoia and Schizophrenia were probably the originators of my external sync style. The Twin Star is my favorite video in that editing style to this day (in 2021 as I write this). I hope to one day come back to this, and maybe make a remade version of it with better timing and match cuts.

listen I am so sorry but the only person we can blame about the bandaids is Syaoran himself, and he’s not open to criticism right now
Tumblr media
Ooh now this touches back on something that was never clear to me, so I’m glad we’re revisiting this. Back in Seresu I felt a little muddled when it came to the state of Fai’s magic - did it grow whenever he used it or not? Was Ashura lying about that or was it real? But I think this moment aligns it all in a way that finally connects for me. From what I can tell, Fai’s magic originally grew whenever he used it (thus, the tattoo from Ashura to prevent Fai getting stronger than Ashura could ever catch up to), but when he lost his eye in Acid Tokyo he lost that property of his magic. The eye that Syaoran stole still holds the ability to grow more magic the more its used, but Fai’s remaining eye seemed to be left with the opposite, where the more he used the magic the less (power? Life force? Battery charge?) he would have left.
Which I really like narratively, since it ties back into that theme of balance all over again - where Fai’s eyes were originally in harmony and worked together flawlessly for purely good results, but once separated (by Syaoran, who is himself completely imbalanced) the harmony is broken and he’s left off worse than even if he just had a functioning half.
Tumblr media
It’s a fantastic echo to the state of Syaoran’s soul in general, and the fact that Syaoran now HAS this other unstable half of a whole set is not only thematically appropriate (because that’s what HE is as well), but a parallel to the overall plotline. He now has a power that will keep growing the more he uses it, to the extent that he will soon be more powerful even than Lava Lamp Guy could ever be - just like the rapidly escalating imbalance in the universe will also keep growing the more it keeps happening, and must also be stopped before it can overpower whatever force of balance is trying to keep Evil Wolverine from shattering the entire thing completely.
It’s a really nice series of echoes they’ve built in here, and I love how it all mixes together in such a thoughtful way.

OC questions: 1, 7, 10, 20
....... Tumblr just wiped my entire response I am so sad... I didn't even get a chance to save a draft it didn't prompt me. What the heckkkk...
Well... here we go again. :( Wish I'd copied to clipboard... TT.TT
Now then. Since there's no OCs asked for I'll pick randomly... Or, well, recount the ones I chose from memory ..... QwQ... And maybe add a few.
1. What kind of person is your OC in a crisis? Are they calm and collected? Do they panic? Or are they chronically the cause?
Tsuname slowly begins to panic until he becomes the crisis, so the last two, yeah.
Shiido tends to be the calm and collected one, but especially in the teen years he's a little less collected in a certain crisis.
I think Sz'nami tends to look to others for help in a crisis. She can get a little overwhelmed, but if she has to deal with it alone, she probably just acts on the fight part of flight or flight instincts.
Naru tends to be a more extreme form of that, with her first instinct being to throw the problem on someone else as quick as she can. But if she has no choice, she turns more to the flight instinct than fight. She can also sometimes be the cause of a crisis.
Ril'siiya's solution is to talk very quickly. It might look like she's panicking and she probably is, but mostly she's just trying to think out loud. So she might end up coming up with something or finding the right person to help fairly quickly despite it looking like a mess.
Korosa - panic but also do. If he was with others he might bark orders to try to get them to fix the problem, but if it's alone then it's the former.
7. Does your OC like their natural hair color or do they dye it? What styles do they prefer?
Most of my OCs don't dye their hair but there are a few with dyed hair from some stalled out stories.
Fuuma has had her hair white for a while but green ends might be somewhat new. The main thing she doesn't like about her hair is it's very messy. Tends not to like taming.
Her mom has blue ends. She prefers medium long with bangs and Fuuma is very similar that way.
Glen dyed his hair gene-altering green as a kid so it stays that way. He only learned to embrace it in his 20s when he started sporting the fringe and tiny ponytail. Until then he'd worn hats and kept his head shaved.
Jasmine, if she does dye, probably keeps the colors au naturale or maybe not too far from natural. She's more into taking care of her hair and likes it medium-long with M-shaped bangs. Maybe she does highlights sometimes, not sure.
10. Is your OC sentimental or pragmatic? Do they keep mementos or only what they need to survive? Have they always been this way or did something happen to make them change?
Sz'nami is pretty sentimental. She became more so after losing Tsunne though.
Shiido is pretty pragmatic. Though he has some things he has a certain protective emotion towards, like things he smuggled out of Waizu's sight, his possessions are largely utilitarian.
Naru is probably middle-tier. Not as sentimental as Sz'nami, not as pragmatic as Shiido. She probably likes to collect things, but doesn't have a super mushy emotional attachment to most things.
Tsuname is fairly sentimental, but he hasn't been able to visit his house again where he's at in his story let alone find out what happened to his possessions.
Ril'siiya probably started out middle-tier with a few things she liked, but she tended to lose interest in them after a while or give them away. Especially after the invasion though she becomes a lot more minimalistic, deciding to do away with most of her late family's things once enough time has passed and keep only what she needs in her new tree home. For her it's a way of moving on from what happened.
Korosa is pretty sentimental about his crafts and the shop he runs. If anything he resents his older brother for leaving the shardsmithing craft and him to run the shop alone. For him it's a way of carrying on the family legacy and to him his brother effectively disinherited himself by ditching.
20. Has your OC ever done something terrible and lied about it? Did they run away or blame someone else for it? How long did they maintain the lie and did the truth ever come out?
Okay, let's see if I can remember what I wrote for this one.
So I have a number of one-off antagonists that this is a double-positive for. I have some villains that it's a positive for if I think about it. And then there's the ones that either didn't get the chance to lie about it but would have given the chance, then those that did horrible things and fessed up, or lied to themselves and it's part of their character arc. So let's break that down...
Schröndinger's OCs
So both of these may not even exist when the dust settles because they had pretty short parts in the story and I'm not sure that they're meaningful enough to make it into a final, but in the rough draft they exist.
First off is Prasinus, who I have a feeling has done things and lied about it or ran away, but he's not telling me if he has, so that might be a false positive. It's harder to lie though in his current environment though so if he did something it's probably before he even appears in the story.
But next is a definitely not false positive. Jaxine, who has a lasting effect on Naru to the point that it's become a nuisance and I'm questioning the purpose of having him exist in the story at all. He did some not-so-great things while working as a prison guard and would have continued if not for Naru and a certain droid. He might've kept up his crimes for years before getting busted. I'm not sure he tried to pin the blame on someone else though. Probably just covered his tracks or gaslit people into thinking his victims were insane.
Positive if I think about it
So in Nell's case it's more of a cover-up. There definitely are things he's blamed others for but it's a bit more complicated and not directly related to stuff he's done. He did separate himself from the scene and generally when someone's found out about it, he's tied up the loose ends so to speak. So a lot of the things he's done have yet to gain any traction as far as becoming publicized goes, but there is still someone that knows some of the things he's lied about who figured it out not long after it happened, so... it depends on the timeline but probably a few weeks?
Waizu has similarly worked together to cover up and reframe his actions to those outside of his immediate circle. To those inside his immediate circle he's owned up to what he's done but reframed it as a good thing. Nell might also be the type to reframe in some cases but it depends.
Didn't get the chance to lie
Korosa did something terrible but it was found out too quickly for him to lie about it. He would have tried if he could have though.
Naru has done a few pretty bad things and also would have lied about them given the chance, but was generally found out before she could. In her case she also gets into the lying-to-self category about how she cooperated with Waizu in his crimes, but that's for another section.
Wouldn't have lied
Now since Shiido's thing only affected one person, it was obviously discovered by the person who was affected. But in his case he wouldn't have lied about it if it was a secret, but he might have tried to explain himself depending on who found out.
Tsuname's done some things but he can't really lie. He's fessed up to what he's done fairly quickly, tried to downplay it but ultimately failed at that too. He's another one for the lying to self category and when he figures that out it's a big part of his character arc.
