So I'm pretty late but I put off watching the last two Furuba episodes when s1 was airing bc I saw Kazuma, knew what was coming, and I was Not Ready For Those Feelings Again.
Anyway here are my reactions to ep 24:
Me, 20 years late: KYO AND TOHRU FALL IN LOVE WITH EACH OTHER BC THEY'RE BOTH LOOKING FOR A SENSE OF HOME AND THEY REMIND EACH OTHER OF THE POSITIVE PARENTAL FIGURES THEY EACH HAD IN THEIR LIVES.
Kyo > Kyoko (Tohru's mom)
Tohru > Kazuma (Kyo's adoptive father)
KAZUMA EVEN FREAKIN. LOOKS LIKE TOHRU AND KYO LOOKS LIKE KYOKO IM SO MAD AT HOW LATE I AM.
The music that plays when Kazuma is saying hi to everyone in ep 24 is like a soft happy lullaby. Everyone smiles at him really genuinely and Tohru is shocked bc these kids never do that!! Kazuma is the only other warm presence they've had from an adult in their lives!! I'm crying 😭
AND THE SOUNDTRACK THAT PLAYS RIGHT BEFORE THE BRACELET IS REMOVED!!! KAZUMA SOHMA CAME IN HERE AND BROUGHT THE GOOD MUSIC WITH HIM, HUH??
The whole turning into a monster thing always felt just a bit out of place to me but narrative wise makes a lot more sense to me now. A visual representation of what the show is about: being vulnerable and being seen and how scary that is and how rewarding it can be.
And the part where Kyo holds Tohru and he says her name for the first time and lets himself turn into a cat!! He allows himself to be at his most vulnerable!! I'm not okay!!!!!!!

Ugh I can’t believe that was our last first episode until the end (I’m tearing up writing that). That was a great first episode though !!! I’m so glad I got to experience the dubbed version first because I just love that cast so much and they did a fantastic job as usual. I’m so excited to see the rest of the season unravel. Finally watched the last episode of Fruits Basket 2019: season 1.
Wow. I just need to take a minute to thank the entire team behind this new production for doing just the absolute best job bringing to life all the delicate details and feelings in Takaya's already mind blowing work.
It's so clear that the team who worked on this reboot loves and understands Fruits Basket at the very core and I could have never dreamed I'd get to see it like this in my life.
Speaking of things I never dreamt I'd get to see in my entire life:
KAKERU MANABE IS ANIMATED. THIS IS NOT A DRILL. HE'S HERE AND I'M REELING IN ALL THE FEELINGS OF WHAT'S TO COME!!
I know for a lot of people, the second season will truly be brand new content and I'm so excited for you all. If you love Yuki and you're excited to see him grow and thrive outside of the Sohma's, then you'll happily welcome this idiot into your hearts!!
I'm so excited for the new student council, for Yuki's continued growth (did you see how mean his playfulness has slowly gotten over s1!! His true colors are showin 👀✨ ), for the appearance of the rest of the zodiac, for the SCHOOL PLAY, and ofc for everyone to see how much of a PETTY COLD BLOODED BITCH Shigure Sohma is HAHAHA!
Anyway that's it for my Furuba Friday insights for now. I've had so much fun getting to go off about this series with old and new fans alike this year and I can't wait to continue next year too!
