Toni has discovered that the toilet paper roll on the holder is a really fun to play with even when all the toilet paper is on the floor because then you get to destroy it

Photos over the course of the morning:
So, this is the space I have to work with. The only thing I can think of why Rolly would have installed an over-large toilet in the basement bathroom is that he liked to sit there to poop and didn’t want his dangle touching the rim.
It’s very much in the way.
I NEED counter space to work, so moved some stuff around and added a tiny shelving unit that just barely fits into the space between the sink and the wall. The sink leaks so I keep the faux drawer front off of the front of the cabinet...
Wrangled a bench under there for extra storage space. The bench is wider than the table so doesn’t exactly fit.
There’s ONE power outlet. It is a small bathroom. It’s very funny to me that Scott was just shaking his head at his father having run power strips around the bathroom and here I am stuck doing the same thing. Mine’s not zip-tied to the wall, though, and the outlet part isn’t right above the sink. It’s on the back of the too-big toilet. I don’t like having a toilet in my workspace, but no one ever uses it, so it’s just a bowl of blue water. I flush it now and then to keep it fresher and that’s it.
But then I took my small utility carts down there and had to move the table and bench again to make room. I do prefer the table not cutting off half the walkway.
Drying rack is back in the shower. I have to be very careful what I put in the shower because it can and did leak. I also can’t put anything over the back of the toilet because I need to be able to access it if it starts leaking again.
I took out the toilet paper holder and the towel rack because both were in the way. I should take down the shower rod. It’s just tension and installed crooked, but everything I take down reveals lots and lots of holes and missing paint. Rolly didn’t take them down to paint (and apparently doesn’t know how to decide where to drill a hole for a screw swiss cheese walls what the fuck), and I didn’t, either when I repainted.
BUT Pony Cart also needed to go in there, which meant the table and shelf had to come out, and that sucks because that’s all of the counter space. I NEED counter space. I’m used to having an approx 1ft by 1.5ft segment of counter space.
If I hadn’t depressed enough at this point because I’m having to cram myself into a windowless bathroom, I was then. I’m claustrophobic. This was unpleasant.
Right now this is all the workspace I have. If I were able I’d get and install a different sink vanity thing that had some counter space. I can’t do that because money. I was going to put all of my bottles of T.A. on the bottom of this shelf thing but I don’t think it can take the weight, tbh. They’ll go in the shower.
Rearranged a little, again, and that’s better. Dehumidifier will probably be on top of that gold plastic table there, with the hose pointing at the shower drain which is just below it.
I need to take the pony bins down, still, and clean up the kitchen because I’ve made a mess up there dumping things off of workstations to get to the furniture.
I also need to find a place to store the small appliances when they’re not in use. I was keeping the mini crock pot and ozone generator on the table in there, but it’s gone. I’ll need to take my electric kettle down, too. It’s ONLY used for doll and pony hair.
I’m tired. It’s all futile. I comply here, he starts poking his nose elsewhere shrinking and shrinking my space.
Obviously, all work is off until the dehumidifer gets here or else the basement will explode into mold again.
Removing the resin jugs did immediately improve the air quality. Those are out in the garage.
I still need to move the SunBox down, two large and one medium storage unit, all of my dolls, and my computer and things (I’m not sure there even are enough outlets down there to accommodate my computer, not that I really trust Rolly’s electrical work), which I guess will go where the unused sewing machine is.
Act like my stuff is unwelcome in his space, see how he likes having no me near him at all.

Three random facts about me:
1) I can imitate a lot of different animal sounds. Started because I had a stutter and refused to speak to people as a kid unless I had to but I still wanted to communicate. I've gotten birds at the zoo to respond to me before, which was both surprising and funny.
2) I can dismantle, fix, and reassemble several types of industrial paper towel dispensers, as well as toilet paper holders, courtesy of my old job. Not very impressive to most people, but my partner appreciated me telling them how to fix their broken one at work.
3) I used to take pottery classes and made a lot of random mugs and plates. I've kept very little of it but would love to be able to start doing it again.

I stand in solidarity with u when it comes to nephews shoving things in the toilet. Mine somehow got the toilet paper roll of the holder and found out where the toilet paper was stashed in the bathroom and… yeah…

Nephews are VERY cute but they are also toddlers and have no concept of ‘putting things in the toilet that isn’t supposed to be in the toilet is bad’ and ‘THATS TOO MUCH’
All they know is toilet does funny sound and goes twirly whirly which is fun!
I am trying to teach him so many things. It is only kind of working because he’s three.

For the Love of Movies...
During my 16 years away from civilization in the desolate flatlands of eastern North Carolina where the nearest big-screen cinema was an 1½ hour drive away, I've only been to one movie. And that was when I visited my daughter in California. Now that I live it Portland, there are dozens of movie houses available. And now that my son Chris lives here, too, I have a Movie Buddy. YAY!
This weekend Oppenheimer & Barbie were sold out but, Wes Anderson's Asteroid City is past the initial crush of interest & available in an art house cinema. Chris & I love funky cinemas so we met up at the Hollywood Theater for the 2pm matinee.
It's a non-profit devoted to the love Cinema that opened almost a hundred years ago in 1926 & is possibly the most elaborate art house I've ever seen. The exterior Baroque/Gothic/Moorish façade is impressive and inside the décor swallows you up in velvety red darkness w gilt-gold trimmings. Compared to the usual bored teenagers who usually have these jobs, their adult ticket takers were enthusiastically welcoming.
It has 3 sizes of auditoriums & my first hurdle was climbing the stairs up to the smallest one. I saw maybe eight steps that ended in a left turn & thought I could handle that much knee pain. But, at the turn, I was confronted by a steep ramp that required me to pull myself up a thankfully solid railing. I kept losing my balance & thought I was losing my mind until I accepted that it was the uneven flooring! It tilted to the left then right then left again! Egad!
The upstairs lobby has no flat floors & was downright trippy like a funhouse at a carnival. I lurched like a drunkard across it to the opulent marble-floored Ladies Room while Chris waited in the concession line to hide my physical distress from him. I spent maybe 10 minutes sitting on the toilet to restore my regular breathing & fight down the pain to restore control over my body. When I rejoined Chris in line, he directed me to find us seats inside & I was relieved to have more time to recover.
The auditorium was extremely small, maybe only a dozen rows perched on steeply raised platforms. The middle rows were further divided by long shelves in front of the seats to accommodate eating & drinking. The concession stand sells local craft beers & Oregon wines, glass-bottled artisan soft drinks, popcorn ("rated best in Portland") & pizza! Oh my!
Physically, the easiest row to access didn't have a table & we didn't need one since we were only getting popcorn & the comfy chairs had drink holders. Chris got me a Cane Cola. He chose a Root Beer & the popcorn came in a brown paper bag.
This place is the epitome of hipster anti-commercialism. Instead of seeing a preview for Oppenheimer, which is playing in the largest 70mm auditorium downstairs, we were treated to delightfully funny promotions for the theater itself including their upcoming program of old Japanese Samurai movies. Chris nudged me w his elbow & whispered, "I love this place." I replied, "Me, too."

I keep coming back lately to how f*cked up it was that my dad never let me mess anything up. Oh no, don’t climb out the window and sit on the roof--you’ll damage the shingles. So I put out beach towels and was extra careful, and he still got mad. Some of my best childhood memories were sitting out on that roof with my brother or my friends. Man f*ck the shingles. We sold that house a year later anyway. I waited years for him to fix the toilet paper roll holder in an upstairs bathroom--then one day just broke down and fixed it myself. It took me 5 minutes. And he was mad because I didn’t use the right kind of screws. F*ck the right screws. It looked perfect and it worked just fine, at least until I moved out. Now I’ve been out here living with a bunch of rogue ranchers and old engineers and it’s given me a whole new perspective on life. The first day I moved onto this ranch the owner got out an electric saw and cut a hole straight through a sewer pipe. I nearly panicked! Like--YOU CAN JUST DO THAT?!?! Just break something?! It was a horrible job! But BAM--it was done! And that sh*t changed my whole worldview. Last week I helped remodel a bridge with some spare logs and a pickaxe. I’ve sawed open the roof of my house and glued it back together. I’ve torn wall fixtures off and burned them in a bonfire.
GO AHEAD! BREAK IT. Wear down the shingles. Cut holes through the wall. Get mud on the sofa. Put stickers on your car. Break the world around you just a little instead of living in fear of losing resale value you rarely get back anyway. It’ll be fine.
