Popular piper laid to rest

Would it have been possible to send Terry Carroll off without pipes and drums ...?

Sure. And, it would have possible for Carroll, at some point in his 89 years, to give up the pipes in favor of the English horn. Possible, but a sin against nature.

At the post-funeral reception, Carroll's mates from the Glen Erin Pipe Band played Carroll off stage in fine form. It was an appropriate farewell to a man who, as the old song goes, played at wakes and weddings far and wide.

As I noted upon Carroll's passing last month, he played his pipes at both my older son's wedding and my older daughter's funeral.

The fact that people were lined up to get into Carrolls funeral mass at St. Martha's Church Saturday morning says a lot about the man. The old piper was a popular figure in mid-Michigan.

One of people who took the podium Saturday said that, in his final days, Carroll didn't really care whether he went to heaven or hell because he had a lot of friends in both places.

That was Terry Carroll.

I was worried that the retired colourman case won’t be as compelling as the others - reduced just to the detective part - but then I was thankfully unceremoniously killed by a gunshot in the heart when sherlock jumped to strangle an old (murderous) man the moment he started laughing at john being blown up.

incomparable experience, would recommend it to everyone. my funeral is on wednesday, you’re all welcomed.

i keep seeing people saying they don’t feel bad for roman for breaking down/don’t feel bad that kendall told him he fucked it because roman would’ve done the same thing to anyone else and… i don’t think that’s true? like in that context at least. obviously roman loves to act shitty and make fun of everyone but at the end of the day he loves the family like he really loves them. and he didn’t do that to kendall when he broke down in s3. i also think it’s worth noting that the reverse argument doesn’t even make sense because only roman would’ve broken down like that (imo — bc he represses his emotions the most/doesn’t have anyone he can confide in anymore/both loved and feared logan the most)

oh no. i feel like if i do not consume an entire load of bread in the very near future i will simply cease to exist.

#very uh. very worried about my finances right now #like. i'm fine. i have some savings. but i also just got to put something into my savings for the first time in a VERY long time and now #now i immediately have to take it out #and i'm getting stressed out about buying groceries #because if i dip into my savings here what about there? where is the line?#and i owe so much to taxes but i can't exactly afford getting less of my pay......#my last paycheck was $0.66 more than my rent #my insurance is refusing to reimburse the last of my electrolysis visits from last year and like #i'm SO over the fight but that's $120. that i really actually kinda need?#and i'm starting to get that funny in the head feeling about wondering how i'm going to feed myself #i still feel so much shame about that funeral i went to years ago and my only thought during the reception after was about #how there was just so much food and i could actually eat my fill #i have leftovers for dinner tonight and it's fine but.... making a lovely vegan dish wasn't the best choice tbh #i feel like if i don't have a large helping of bread and meat i'm going to go insane #and it really REALLY doesn't help that i've apparently lost the ability to eat in the mornings #so i'm at quite a significant fuel deficit and it's stacking #but no matter how hungry i am in the morning the concept of processing solid food is just repulsive and daunting #eating a clif bar at 9am would take literally all of my spoons for the day #i was looking at protein shakes since i can handles *drinking* breakfast #but the cheapest one that meets my dietary requirements is $35 for a 12pack #and i'm uh. i'm worrying over spending $10 on produce this week #personal #and nevermind that i don't have the spoons to even GO shopping (:#(on an aside i switched back to my regular melatonin gummies last night and i Actually Slept. so hopefully that will continue and help some)#i just want to curl up in a ball on the floor and have someone gently place a roll of bread and hunk of cheese next to me in my enclosure #also it's photophobia season and i still feel like i haven't recovered from saturday #got too much sunlight and was nauseaus for half the day #my body feels so bad

my mom died a year ago

#grief #technically I’m about 4 hours early from the exact tod but yeah #i was probably up til 3:30 or so that night #I could double check bc i wrote a journal entry that night when i couldn’t fall asleep #it’s been 365 really busy days but shit right now it feels like no time has passed at all #but shoutout to palliative care nurses everywhere #and mad props to the oncologists doing bonkers scifi treatments and trials #keep up the good work #mom’s final cancer was a hell of an eldrich beast but medicine keeps developing #and bringing on night nurses for those last three nights of hospice was such a help and a comfort I don’t think I have words for #someone asked me earlier in the afternoon if i was through it having been a year and all #and i straight up said No I Am Still In The Thick Of It #my cousin (who lost her dad/my uncle 8ish years prior) said at the funeral reception “it doesn’t get better”#and she was right #it doesn’t get any better at all #you just get used to it #the lack of that person becomes familiar #even though your connection to them still feels active #like a phantom limb #it still feels horribly horrendously wrong that she’s gone #the world is certainly poorer in her absence #if I could offer any advice for anyone it would be to talk to your loved one(s) about this all ahead of time #don’t wait til they get sick don’t wait til they get old or whatever #start talking through it now #(certainly legally but also logistically)#unfortunately it’s a certainty that you will lose the person most important to you #or they will lose you #so don’t hide from it or put it off. it’s part of any relationship. it’s there and no one can escape it.#but yeah #right now this hurts

had a dream where idek if it was glenn or dennis anyway we were on a road trip with other unknown people? and they told us to go into a store to buy smth but when we got into the store it turned into a club (pretending that it was the rainbow) and we got distracted by this randomised cocktail maker that too could put candy in…..the sillification of dennis reynolds has entered my subconscious like a brain eating parasite cause his ass was there like they’re gonna be sooooo mad when we don’t come back

my interpretation of the 4x09 stills is that roman's eulogy will go so horrendously that he has to sit out the rest of the funeral sobbing in a back room until everyone's gone home and he can slink to the cemetery to visit his dad's grave alone

sort of ?¿ an unpopular opinion but i love weddings so much

#always have always will #i can’t say how much i like enjoy celebrating love #i like seeing two people love each other and swaths of people love them #i like appreciating all the effort that went into the wedding bc i’ve helped plan three #i like the dresses and the colors and the venues if it can be afforded #i like the reception and seeing the bride dance in her dress and listening to the speeches #i like how it’s such a selfless event that everyone is so happy to attend #so happy to celebrate love #which is always refreshing given how many funerals i’ve attended in my lifetime #then again i’m someone who cried when my brother and sister in law slow danced at their wedding so maybe i’m just a sap #i know Firsthand it’s not sunshine and rainbows but just !!#i love the beauty of weddings in every sense of the word #which is why it sucks that i’m dreading tomorrow 🫠#anyways.txt
