I absolutely adore your art! Especially necromancer jaskier, I was wondering if you’d ever consider him doing something like in Lord Of The Rings where Aragorn shows up with his army of the dead…maybe he brings them to help with a fight against Nilfgaard?
Please keep doing what you’re doing, it’s so wonderful and always makes my day when you post!
Tumblr media
You know, these prompts always make me go hnnnggg, because I love every version of bamf!Jaskier. The biggest difference between those two scenes would be that in the necromancer!Jaskier verse? It's him who's the scariest thing around.

happy wincest mittwoch! what is your favorite era of wincest to explore artistically, and what makes it so appealing to you? is it also your favorite era of the show just in general, from a viewer standpoint?
oh perhaps slightly embarrassing to answer but i love drawing later seasons married!chesters. not actually married, but as close as can be. simply because at heart i am secretly the soggiest being alive and i love the domesticity and gentleness and relief of it and i love adding a little bit of grey to dean’s temples. but i do also love sam’s stupid early bangs and motel aesthetic and tbh a lot of the stuff i want to draw i haven’t drawn yet (and a lot of that is more episode/season specific) so i guess my very favourite thing is that there are so many different angles and eras to explore :p married era is also one of my favourites to watch but it’s definitely not the sole top 1 simply because i love everything before that as well.

Hii! Over the mbti thingy: I remember seeing the original post and being kinda sad that I got childe hahaha (I’m Infp) {I didnt send hate btw! Like thats beneath me} I guess its bc in the fanfic sphere readers are there only for pure validation by charas they like, and thus tend to see the writer as a somewhat faulty tool to get said validation. Idk about you but I think that, despite my love for the cultural impact of fanfic, this aspect just seems like a major limitation for artistic expression. (And I think it kills artistic appreciation in readers as well) Idk I guess I just wanted to ramble a bit jdjdjs So what are your thoughts?
i’ve definitely given this some thought! especially when i get asks that are something along the lines of ‘i don’t think x would be yandere for me because i’m y” and i feel really bad,, because if it’s an insecurity they’ve mentioned, my reflex is to Reassure, but then i worry if it’d come off as me saying “no no you totally deserve to be in a toxic yandere relationship i promise” and well. 😦
it’s not that i don’t understand the wanting validation aspect! fanfic, reader-inserts especially, have a huge appeal from a self-indulgent standpoint. i love that and think it’s super fun to go around writing/drawing your favorite characters being madly in love with you. now that’s a good time. i don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong or right about using a writer’s work to find validation, it’s more something that’s up to what the writer does or doesn’t want to do. for me personally, since i predominantly write yandere, i always feel concerned about how to handle something that is as sensitive as those types of asks. i do see writers who seem comfortable navigating it and that’s cool too. it really just depends.
i’m sorry for somewhat veering off from the original point of your ask, i felt it was somewhat related though .
as for the limitation of artistic expression, this feels more like a universal issue in media these days with the high tendency toward easy to digest ‘content’. i can see how this might potentially impact the stories fanfic writers do/don’t write though. obviously we know that lots of romance/smut will get more interaction, but sometimes to build the story that we want to build, those things have to get put on the back-burner. i always feel bad whenever i finish reading a chapter of something and see the author apologizing for the main love interest not being around much in it & promising they’ll be back soon, when the story was solid enough to hold up without the love interest’s presence. i think i’ve actually done this myself actually ??
i wouldn’t say it’s the reader’s fault... if you’re reading a fanfic for romance, you want to see, well, romance. i can’t feel upset about that hgkjfld
ANYWAY it’s an interesting discussion to have. lots to unpack. 😌

August 26, 2022: Transpositions, Commutativity, Association, and Disjointedness; False and True Mirror Worlds
Imagine a space where you can see the form of time from some standpoint, and imagine if you can only see if it you can tell it apart from a similar form that does not result in a second mirror world eating you up when you weren't noticing the details. This is how my continued foray into the following paper feels.
We begin with a quick clip by one of favorite mathematicians, Cohl Furey. At the time when I found out about her, 2018, I didn't have the spoons, the space, the time or the safety to further pursue my interest in what she taught. It is true that apolitical positions are privileged positions, and that some people are successfully perched on a safety that allows them to pretend like evading the boiling lava of politicization is a choice. That, or they are just completely blind to their own political positions and consequences, or simply in denial. Only now I have I finally ended the relationship that took me from several opportunities in analyticity. I revisit her work.
youtube
Her teaching is void of unnecessary distraction, organized, preplanned, clear, and distinctly moving forward with an insight for the student in mind. She shows high comprehensive skill therefore.
Still curious about division algebras, I found out that they are fields that are associative, aka, more or less coupled with their cancelling function with the exception of the Cayley numbers. Oddly, these are another name for the octonions, though apparently they were discovered independently.
In addition, Cayley numbers are non-associative. That means that changes in groupings have real effects, even if the contents are the same. It sounds like what I am learning about in complexity science and emergence. In addition to being non-associative, we also have to remember that as a division algebra the multiplication operation doesn't necessarily commute, meaning that direction of multiplication may have an effect as well. So, so far we know there are real effects on direction and group. When I hear that, I immediately think time--direction going to physics, group going to finance, and the link between the two going to complexity theory.
Moving on, we touch on involution--where I take to mean the shape of something coupled with its functional instantiation results in the identity. My hypotheses are that this identity can be either considered the (a) category or (b) some kind of pivotal location necessitated by the system constraints for this form to both exist and operate. It is dark, but I think of a gothic cathedral, and a gothic cathedral when it is on fire, operating, made of stuff. Genes, and genes when they are in the burning, mortal version of a human life.
Tumblr media
Learning about involution and inversion, I couldn't help but to think how a shift in direction of an operation related to the inverting function. It seems to me inversion is just multiplicative commutation but on a different dimension. I often love to teach inversion to my kids using the fraction's bar as the mirror, and the fractions jump across the mirror world to find themselves in the identity function 1. Interestingly, the identity function is, as we see in the following video, also the first generator of a potential Cayley graph...this is me looping back to how Cayley category theory ties into graph theory.
youtube
This piece by Visualmath is amazing not only because it is visual, and most mathematics is best taught with the end in mind (the final picture; I always view the computational approach as an artist who sketches a lot of lines while drawing each individual piece of a picture, which is more than a little energetically expensive, and I view a mathematician as one who draws in a preplanned, certain way) but because I love that he laughs and says intimidating elements of math are actually really simple and easy to understand. I wish more math was taught this way. In fact, I wonder why it isn't?
Some things to note: I will be noting one after another the additions I have to make to my original reading to show why autodidactic, thorough mathematical endeavor has a serious complexity issue that I don't think the university system solves.
Initial inquiry http://www.csun.edu/~asethura/papers/DegreeDetVars.pdf
Resulting supporting inquiries while trying to solve the initial inquiry to be read as supplement while reading 1, added August 26, 2022 (https://inspirehep.net/files/1e02ad81af7a278f19b217e99715a973)
https://www.researchgate.net/publication/308943414_Commutativity_Theorems_in_Rings_with_Involution
Supplementary reading: Applications of category theory, to be looped into each entry as an extra challenge.
Other items to note; subvariety is a smaller item in a larger field. The question of codimension is how many dimensions are not shared...I find this an interesting use of the word co. So essentially, "what is the distance between that I am, and that which contains me, dimensionally speaking?" What's even more interesting is that, if I understand correctly, which I probably don't, the smallest possible difference between a subvariety and a field is the field's dimension, and the larger the subvariety becomes, the "greater" the codimension terminologically speaking, while it is actually numerically smaller. All I can think to explain this is that the term is referencing how much space they mutually compare. To me this seems like an inverse function. Anyone else irked by this?
Finally, I was also interested in the transposition here and how it relates to commutativity, associativity, and the real effect of direction and group--perhaps the group formed by the traces themselves.
youtube
Well, we're one small paragraph into a six page paper, and already in this deep. I've always been one for a steep learning curve though...I've been celebrating completing my financial analysis specialization! My favorite quote or something like it being finance is, in the end, the study of time. Forever the metaphysician.

5, 10, 14 for the artist ask meme :) u don’t have to answer them all i am just generally curious about these things so i’m glad to see an ask meme going around that has them as questions.
I appreciate your consideration, but I’m happy to answer!
5. Estimate of how much of your art you post online vs. the art you keep for yourself
Overall, my guess would be 85% shared, 15% personal? Though most of what the social platforms see is more like 60% of what i create. There are a handful of things that i only share with close friends, so while that’s still shared online it’s not really in the public sense of “online”. Additionally, there are things like wips or studies that i dont really see any point in sharing
10. Favorite piece of clothing to draw
Neckties. So satiny… <3
14. Any favorite motifs
This is a surprisingly challenging question to answer because I personally don’t use motifs in my works very often, if at all. However i do love art in general, so from the standpoint of personal taste, i definitely favor organic and floral motifs since i love how they curl and weave

kyle for the character ask!
favorite thing about him
it's all about the LOVE
he's just. he's an artist he's a romantic he sees the best in people he mastered all 7 colors of the emotional spectrum he's the best of them all he's traumatized to hell and back he's the torchbearer he's the first he's the last he's the white lantern he's the golden boy he's just a kid trying his best I just think he's neat <3
I also love how dark he gets sometimes ! like. idk I like em a little fucked up, ya know?! he tortures and kills bad guys and doesn't show a bit of guilt and I think it's great <3 he's so good and hopeful and loving but he's also a little messed up <3
least favorite thing about him
idk I guess....his stubbornness? I usually don't Hate things about a character just because even their bad traits make them multifaceted! 3 dimensional! but I do admit it's a little annoying when he refuses to budge on something. his follow-your-heart attitude, while GREAT, also tends to give him tunnel vision, and it can be hard for him to see another point of view (especially if he has personal stakes in the matter.) what I'm thinking of right off the top of my head is during Kyle and Connor's teamup, when they meet Kyle's "dad" and Connor is suspicious (rightly so!) but Kyle is so blinded by his emotions that he refuses to even consider that Connor is wise to be cautious. it ends up causing some problems down the line, and temporarily damaged their friendship. from a writer's standpoint it's a brilliant character flaw because it can also be a strength, depending on the situation! Kyle's free heart have done a lot of good and it's why I love him! it just...isn't always good, ya know? from a reader's standpoint it can get frustrating to see him refuse to even consider another point of view even though he really probably should. idk it's all relative
favorite line
just gonna drop these here <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
OTP
y'all know I'm a jaykyle stan to the extreme <3 they could make each other worse in the most entertaining way possible
also like. the PARALLELS
Kyle is a white lantern! protector of life!! Jason died!! they're both willing to do whatever's necessary to protect people! I just think they're neat <3 and I'm a slut for enemies to lovers. what are ya gonna do about it
I also feel like Alex doesn't get enough appreciation. that's probably because she died like 2 issues in but STILL. her ex boyfriend gets a power ring and she's just like "aight let's get you some publicity!" and starts a photoshoot almost on the spot. she was so supportive of him from the get-go and where did that lead her?!
I also cry every time I read Circle of Fire so yeah. I remember my roots I'm a Kyle/Alex truther at heart
I'd also like to put connorkyle as an honorable mention ! I love their friendship so much and I wouldn't mind seeing it with a dash of romance thrown in!
nOTP
I haven't come across anything in fandom that's made me go NOPE tbh! I'm always pretty chill with shipping anyway but I just don't really have many strong feelings about Kyle's love life outside of those stated above
brOTP
his and Connor's friendship is just. GOALS. they meet up during a fight and decide "oh we're besties now" and go on a road trip to find Kyle's dad. along the way they get into a bar fight (Kyle started it) and also start a fight with an entire town of lawyers before finally meeting aforementioned dad (who wasn't really his real dad but shh). they banter they tease and Kyle makes constructs for his friend to carry him around and Connor has to haul Kyle out of ridiculous situations he keeps getting himself into. I fuckin love those two.
Tumblr media
just guys being dudes <3
I'd also like to point out that in this scene, Connor is wearing a construct trench coat because he didn't have any other clothes to wear over his suit. truly nobody does it like them <3
random headcanon
I think he draws his friends a lot! sometimes he gives them the finished product as a gift but most of them he just keeps in his sketchbooks. idk I think it's sweet <3
unpopular opinion
he should have an animated series or something. he should have been in Green Lantern: the Animated Series actually. you know what I would give to see Kyle and Razer interact?!? I would kill a man
favorite picture of him
I had to narrow down his Ion appearances to make them all fit under the picture limit, but just know that the entire Ion run is on this post in my heart <3 also included is my favorite background Kyle from his very first solo comic, some of my favorite panels from dark crisis (again, haven't read it yet but bro I am Looking 👀), and Kyle being endearing <3

all the odd numbers of the introject ask!! (1, 3, 5, 7, 9, etc.) ^__^
thank you for the ask :)
whats your source? (if you have one and if you have multiple)
Chainsaw Man
whats your favorite thing about your source?
from a media enjoyer standpoint i think largely the biggest draw for me, is that all the characters and relationships between them are interesting. even the ones that aren't good still have complexity.
from an introject standpoint though i'm not sure
do you have sourcemates in your system?
as far as i'm currently aware, no. it's not impossible that there's information i can't access at this time though
is there someone you’d rather avoid?
in terms of systems i already have established friendships and partnerships with, i would never avoid or exclude any introjects of characters i personally have issue with if they were to pop up. but it is Chainsaw Man and there certainly are characters i would be very happy to not have to interact with
what sets you apart from your source?
fashion sense. also i'm addicted to skin to skin contact that's a pretty significant difference
can we get an introduction to you?
hi...:) i'm Angel and there are so many sad lesbians in my system who need me. sorry i don't really know what information to put in introductions i hope that's sufficient
favorite memories?
to be honest, we generally try to avoid thinking about memories these days. the escapism can get out of control...personally, i'm not sure i even have any
are there any headcanons of you that you like?
oh yes. the transgender ones of course
are you okay with cosplays of you?
yes very much :) most of what i see is through my husband's tiktok fyp and i love to see them. people get so creative and artistic with it, i really like seeing people get artsy with their makeup or how they do the halo
skipped question 19 as it was a free space

Heck do all the asks
I had two more cups of coffee while working on these and my nervous system is undergoing a transformation
1. Art programs you have but don't use
I bought Clip Studio Paint on sale but still haven't dragged myself over the learning curve. I also have FireAlpaca downloaded and only use that for cropping images.
2. Is it easier to draw someone facing left or right (or forward even)
I find forward the easiest! Left and right are about the same for me, but I also do a lot of canvas-flipping, and about half the time the angle I start drawing is not the angle I end up with.
3. What ideas come from when you were little
Project-wise? I still kick around character designs from when I was a kid. In general, I think the brightest constant is that I do pretty much exclusively character art and not scenery, still life, or real-world living subjects because all my ideas are related to fiction.
4. Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw
I love monsters and extremely complex character designs, but they're hell on my stamina.
5. Estimate of how much of your art you post online vs. the art you keep for yourself
Right now, I post maybe ten percent of my art? Most of it is just for me or for one other person.
6. Anything that might inspire you subconsciously (i.e. this horse wasn't supposed to look like the Last Unicorn but I see it)
I guarantee there are still remnants of anime influence in my art, since anime and manga were what really cemented my identity as an "artist" (insofar as I can cal myself one, which is probably up for debate). One bit of evidence that comes to mind is my love of like... knockoff chibis? I don't think I can call them chibis, but funky lil guys.
7. A medium of art you don't work in but appreciate
*Watercolor.* My sister works mainly with watercolor and it's something I have never been able to grasp.
8. What's an old project idea that you've lost interest in
At some point I wanted to make a collection of group pictures with the main characters from all of my comfort stories.
9. What are your file name conventions
You need to see the thumbnail if you're going to have any idea what the file contains. I drew a three-part series of doodles and the filenames are "BEE," "too," and "tree." I'm also fond of variations on "HELP" and "ohno."
10. Favorite piece of clothing to draw
Tailcoats or long, flowy dresses
11. Do you listen to anything while drawing? If so, what
Whatever I'm feeling! Music, a podcast, an audiobook, a YouTube video that doesn't require me to look at it, a stream if I'm on a call with ~Geoffrey~ while she's playing a game. I'm not picky but my autistic ass (affectionate) needs the sensory input to focus
12. Easiest part of body to draw
Lukewarm take, I know, but eyes. Or eyebrows if I'm allowed to be a smartass
13. A creator who you admire but whose work isn't your thing
I don't know anything about this person so it's purely from an artistic standpoint, but I respect how wildly recognizable the JJBA art style is (the actual art, the expressions and poses, the character designs, all the things)
14. Any favorite motifs
e y e s and also bones and time-related symbols
15. *Where* do you draw (don't drop your ip address this just means do you doodle at a park or smth)
Almost entirely at home at my desk, but sometimes I doodle during downtime at work
16. Something you are good at but don't really have fun doing
*U h* I don't think I'm good at a wide enough variety of things to have an answer to this
17. Do you eat/drink when drawing? if so, what
I need to have a drink nearby at all times or I will Die. Flavored water, soda, and coffee are the big three, but I also like sweet tea and assorted fruit juices. I don't love eating while drawing for sensory/cleanliness reasons, but sometimes I'll have something crunchy
18. An estimate of how much art supplies you've broken
Not too many! I do tend to mangle colored pencils because I'm too rough when sharpening them, but I don't use a lot of materials that are easy to break and I'm neurotically careful with my tablet because I can't replace it. The closest I've come to breaking that was keeping the cord in a drawer my kitten learned how to open
19. Favorite inanimate objects to draw (food, nature, etc.)
Anything That Glows
20. Something everyone else finds hard to draw but you enjoy
Armor, mechanical parts, and bones. I'm not saying I don't find them difficult, mind you, but I love it
21. Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways
Slowly grasps Cinder's sleeve. Also Fern's. Also ~Geoffrey's~. If I have to choose someone I don't know personally, crow-caller
22. What physical exercises do you do before drawing, if any
This is a thing I definitely *should* do :)
23. Do you use different layer modes
YEAH I abuse Multiply and Screen
24. Do your references include stock images
Oh naturally. AdorkaStock is my go-to
25. Something your art has been compared to that you were NOT inspired by
Nothing that I can think of? I think that's mostly because the art communities I used to participate in heavily discouraged comparison, so I haven't heard any variant of "Your art reminds me of ____" in at least five years.
26. What's a piece that got a wildly different interpretation from what you intended
I don't have anything specific on hand, but I had a friend in middle school who jumped to sexualizing everything I drew, if that counts. There's not a lot to interpret in my art, though. It's. How do I put "shallow" nicely?
27. Do you warm up before getting to the good stuff? If so, what is it you draw to warm up with
This is another thing I should really do!
28. Any art events you have participated in the past (like zines)
I used to do Art Fight.
29. Media you love, but doesn't inspire you artistically
Most live-action media! I also don't generally feel artistic inspiration from podcasts—the exception would be TTRPG podcasts, but even those don't tend to do it for me unless the characters have canon designs.
30. What piece of yours do you think is underrated
I don't have it anymore, but there was a drawing I did a few months ago of two characters of mine. It came out to about twenty hours of work (which is a lot for me) and no one really seemed to like it, but I attribute that in part to the fact that I drew a lot of it in a stream, which kind of desensitizes people.

2, 10, 25 for that artist askthingy (like 20 hours later but hey!) <3
Ahhh hi babe!
2. Is it easier to draw someone facing left or right (or forward even)
From a technical standpoint, drawing someone facing left is easier for me because I'm right handed so my hand doesnt block the rest of their head while im trying to figure out the squishy angles of eye bags and noses, but I usually prefer straight forward because I'm lazy. When I do fashion illustration dolls I always do them as perfectly symmetrical as possible, I really like the slightly uncanny doll-like look for those
Tumblr media
10. Favorite piece of clothing to draw
Omg YES, I don't know if it's obvious but clothing is my favourite things to do!! I love folds and gathers and wrinkles and draping so much, I love doing little details like lacing, frills, bows. I'm actually surprised I haven't done Stede in his little silly outfits because theres so much finery but I like to spend hours on it so maybe that's why I've held back!! I have some wips that indulge in some corsetry so might revisit them when I've finished my week 'off'
25. Something your art has been compared to that you were NOT inspired by
That's a tricky one, I'm not sure if I've had much exposure to the point where my stuff gets compared to stuff. During art school it was constant but used as an insult to try and force you to think outside of your influences. Honestly I used to be very inconsistent in style and it's only recently I've started drawing the way I have been, I think moving to digital has been a blessing. So far nothing has come up that I could answer this with!
Thank you for the ask @sherlockig you're a total cutie 💜💜💜

Hello fellow marketers. Welcome back to Nat 20 Marketing! As mentioned last week, we are going to talk about personalization this time!
Let’s start with a quick definition of what that word means when we apply it to marketing and advertising – the act of making something suitable for the needs of a particular person.
For this week’s blog, I’d like to spend some time discussing why personalization is important in marketing, as well as how personalization can be implemented in both traditional marketing and digital marketing.
Why personalization when we can just generalization?
Tumblr media
When we give a gift to a friend or family member, we often think about the things the receiving end would enjoy. For me, I like receiving gifts that expand on my art supply collection, video games, and art of things I like. For others, it can be things that they care about. It can be something related to their hobbies, their career, their health, and many other aspects. We think about these things deeply before we decide on what to buy or make for the recipient. This concept is the same for businesses to consumers. Businesses want to send their products to the right customers. Relevance is the key. The probability of an adult wanting toys made for kids is not as high unless they are parents, because then they may be looking to give their children a present. The probability of an artist looking for art supplies and drawing tablets is much higher than a person who doesn’t ever do art.
As marketers, we want to show our customers that we do know and care about what they care about. We are here to bridge that gap and build a connection.
The first step to personalization is to learn about your customers.
With the sheer population size across the globe that has access to the Internet, personalization has never been made easier thanks to cookies and large data sets so readily available.
The one thing that makes collecting data more difficult these days is consumers’ ability to opt out of such data collection to protect their privacy. There is also a rise of options for partial data collection where only “necessary” data is collected. Personally, at some point, I also opted out of such programs, but I have since recently opted in for partial collections. From a consumer’s standpoint, it is completely understandable that people do not want companies to collect all their information, from their biodata to what they look up on search engines and the messages they send to others on social media platforms. It is normal for people to feel uncomfortable having their entire profile publicly available for companies to take advantage of and push personalized content and promotions into their social media feeds.
Cookies, whilst being extremely efficient and effective at data collection, marketers should always look at other sources for data collection. Let’s use one of my favorite examples – video games.
Tumblr media
Video game developers can source their data from online reviews, forums, and social media all the time. They can find out what their players want in the future and what they are dissatisfied about. Let’s take the example of the game The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood. The common consensus from the players by skimming through the reviews is that they wish the behemoth in the game is romanceable. Unfortunately, to make that happen in the game itself may pose challenges due to plot reasons, but the game developers showed that they do know what their players want in their recent online event celebrating Valentine’s Day. The developers launched a contest inviting players to create cards for a chance to win a real-life prize related to the popular behemoth character in the game. The prize itself started a lot of conversation and surprise from the players. From a marketing standpoint, it can be considered a successful campaign of bringing word-of-mouth promotion on top of engagement from the community.
With the example above, we have successfully covered personalized digital marketing. What about traditional marketing?
Before we go into this topic, I must say that personalized traditional marketing is undoubtedly a costly investment, and may not always yield the positive result we predict it would be able to. However, think about it like this:
Patagonia creates a unique pamphlet that is playful in design and attracts the younger generation when the pamphlet arrives at their mailboxes. The chance of the receiver tossing the pamphlet immediately into the garbage bin is going to be much lower because they are more likely to flip it open and see what it does. Then, there comes the exposure of information to these young adults who can purchase clothes for themselves. It is more likely for them to remember the brand. It is more likely for them to talk about receiving such an interesting handout with their peers.
Traditional marketing with a touch of personalization is going to take creativity, time, and money. The stronger the impression we get to forge with our audience, the better the results will be. With information always bombing people thanks to rapid technology development and its ever-increasing daily usage, traditional marketing as a whole needs to step up its game to make an impact.
At the end of the day, IMC is not just about advertising goods and services. As marketers, our goal should not end at boosting sales but also creating a buzz amongst our potential and existing customers. Personalized marketing can be extremely powerful at sparking conversations and bringing in fresh impressions to the brand when it is done right. It doesn’t always have to be a publicity stunt or a heated and controversial topic. As long as marketers show effort that they genuinely understand the needs and wants of their customers, personalized marketing is one of the key elements to successful IMC campaigns.
Next week at Nat 20 Marketing, we will cover reputation management. Stay tuned and happy marketing!

#125 - Impossibilum - Saturnalia Temple
A week ago I went to the town of Salem for a family vacation trip, and during my vacations, I always like to go to a record store to browse through the records and find something I am looking for, something that I know I will like, or something new. Most of the time I get something that I wasn’t looking for but like enough to add to my collection. On other occasions, I like to step out of my comfort zone and find a group or artist I haven’t heard of before. This is of course how most people get into music, but I like to do it with records especially because it makes me feel like I am in the olden days when I am shuffling through albums trying to find something that might stick. It is fun to see what I might get out of something new, and with this EP (my first EP in my collection believe it or not) I found a certain charm that I wanted to add to my collection for quite some time, and that is some heavy doom metal. I love doom metal a lot, Stoner metal too. I love those long acidic movements that feel like a trip to listen to, and the album covers too are some of the best I’ve ever seen. Ufomammut being one of my favorites of the genre helped capture the energy perfectly, but I think I found a new appreciation for the little guys who may not be as widely known as some of the greats like Bongripper, Y.O.B., or Ufomammut are.
As I was looking through records I came across this one, and immediately got hooked into wanting it. The album cover’s drawing just enticed me, and so I bought it, not knowing what I’d get. Safe to say though, Saturnalia Temple set the stage for this EP.
In the first song, Golachab, we get those intense and powerful chords that are not only powerful but extremely satisfying to hear. I love the explosive sound production on this track, because not only does it sound good, but whenever the drums and guitar just mesh into each other, it creates an amazing experience. Now I do not know if I set the record to the right speed because it played a bit slower than the uploaded version on YouTube, but I think the slower-paced one I listened to is the best way to listen to it. Sure it’ll feel a lot longer, but you can hear the texture and vibrations of the guitars more clearly when it is at a pace. Not only that but the vocals and how they are very unclear just make this song feel so mysteriously amazing. It is so static, so boundless. This song is an amazing doom-metal track right here. It may be 11 minutes long, but it never feels too slow in its ways, and that is really how I like my doom metal, so trippy that time feels a lot quicker than usual.
The EP ends on a cover song, Dhamballah, which is a remade version of the song, Dambala, which was originally made by the Bahamian musician, Macfarlane Gregory Anthony Mackey, aka Exuma. While the original song was a very lovely song that was soft to the ears that featured a pronounced love, this cover version is the direct opposite. It is a 9-minute, atmospheric drone metal tune that feels haunting, sinister, and creepy. It is like a nightmarish version of what the original song entailed. The love, while still there, is now clouded within a deep dark fog that takes a while to get through, but once you manage to make your way past the dark trenches your vision starts to see the beauty of what this song is. Now while I think this song is beautiful, I have one major complaint, and that is I feel like the song is a bit too cloudy. I know I talked about how the fog that the song has is important, but I do think they made things a bit too overbearing from a musical standpoint. Things feel a tiny bit too unclear in a lot of the senses, and with the overbearing guitar tones and the cryptic vocals, it all becomes an albeit good, but very messy song that takes a while to appreciate in full.
This EP is a shining example of how to do doom right. A clear idea, and a clear execution, mixed with a very wide range of styles that a lot of doom metal bands love to do. It is, for the most part, the best of both worlds of what makes a doom-metal experience worthwhile. While it is not on streaming, and despite the songs being on YouTube, I think the best way to experience this would be through vinyl because the crackles add to the effect, plus you might get a cool colored vinyl too which I got. If you want some great doom metal, or want to get into the genre, look into this release, you will not regret it.

Reigen gets a Smart Phone
Tumblr media
Reigen thinks: When did they all switch to smart phones?
Tumblr media
So does that mean I’m the only one still using a flip phone?
No... No that cant be, the main purpose of a cell phone is to communicate. In that respect, it does great. More functions are not necessarily useful. Most of it is just entertainment and pointless frills.
The battery drains faster, the screen is a lot easier to break and they’re more expensive.
Tumblr media
Haaaaa!! Check it out Losers! Six super rares! Told you I’d get ‘em!
Tumblr media
Serizawa: WHOAA!! Ekubo Senpai, you’re amazing! That’s so much grinding, I’m not even close.....
Mob: My mom won’t let me to play on the phone at night, so I never get the  chance to grind.
Ekubo: HAHAHAHA That kind of skill is difference between you ordinary people and gods like me! um... not including shigeo’s ???% form that is....
Reigen: Um.... Guys?
Tumblr media
Reigen: Aren’t you guys spending too much time playing phone games at work?
Serizawa: Ah! I... I’m sorry.
Mob: But isn’t this our lunch break?
Tumblr media
Ekubo: HAHAHAHAHA What, you guys can’t tell? Reigen’s just jealous cuz he doesn't have a smart phone.
Reigen backpedaling: I’m just curious is all. Why did you guys all decide to switch to smart phones all of a sudden?
Tumblr media
Serizawa: The GPS app is really helpful, now that I’m no longer at home all the time. The other apps are really useful for work and school.
Mob: My mom got it for me after I did well on midterms.
Ekubo: How should I know. It came with the body.
Tumblr media
Some time later, Reigen is outside the phone store looking at the ads.
The phones are free. The plans range from 90 to 100 dollars monthly.
Reigen: It’s almost a hundred dollars a month! Several times more expensive than my flip phone.
This is a money sink that’s not going to contribute meaningfully to my life.
Ugh.. when I really think about it, I don’t need a phone with so many functions. The phone I’ve got now is by no means old, and I’m pretty used to it.
Tumblr media
Reigen: I can’t get carried away by vanity. I don’t blindly mirror the choices of others, that’s not who I am and how I want to live.
Little girl: Mom, that basic guy has one of those basic phones.
Mom: Shh! Not out loud!   ------
Cashier: Thank you for the purchase!
Tumblr media
-Later at Reigen’s apartment-
So this is the cutting edge of communications technology... It feels like opening a treasure chest. - as he opens the box -
WOOOOOW!!
Tumblr media
Ah! so this is the user manual. I see... I see. What was the game they were playing?
Found it! Ooooooo! My avatar looks so cool.
Hahaha found Ekubo! What a fitting avatar for an evil spirit!
Ah! Mob’s avatar is adorable. Aww he’s going to sleep now.
Tumblr media
-The next morning-
Ugghghhhh can’t keep grinding....
You can’t get past any of the bosses without seriously strong upgrades.
Tumblr media
-Gets up stiffly-
Okay time to spin for the powerup bonus.
-He taps to draw a new powerup.-
.....................
Tumblr media
NO RARES, ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!
-throws phone- -nervously catches it again-
No gems left, no gold left.... is making an in game purchase the only way to get more draws?
No wait Arataka, it’s just an app game... be reasonable!
Tumblr media
Calm down... think about this...
-LIMITED TIME ONLY! 100% CHANCE OF RARE ITEM-
Reigen taps “buy” and there is a cash register sound effect.
As the scene zooms out, the sound effect rings several more times. (ie, he makes a bunch more in-app purchases)
Tumblr media
Mob: Master’s been working really hard recently. He didn’t even take a lunch break today.
Serizawa: Did something happen?
Tumblr media
GODDAMMMMIT I maxed out my funds on in-app purchases. Have to take on more jobs to make up for it.
Tumblr media
--For the first time in his life, Reigen Arataka realized the terrifying allure of escapism.--
I’m switching back to my flip phone.
By Tamadango
.
.
This is one of my absolute favorite comics. It’s got everything I love about ALL of the characters.
- The spirits and such team just hanging out around the office, not doing any work, just casually sharing something they all enjoy.
- Ekubo having to be THE BEST... Canonically he refers to himself as Ore-sama or “本大人” which is more accurately translated as “Your Majesty, I....” He is clearly better than everyone else and he needs to show it at even trivial things like a phone game.
-Ekubo possessing his host to play for hours and hours just so he can one up his FRIENDS (two of the most powerful psychics in the world)...and justify them as “followers” with “much to learn”.
- Mob is the most powerful esper in the world and can flatten cities effortlessly, The three adults treat him as an equal, and Serizawa even treats him as a superior. Yet he’s still a kid that needs boundaries. His MOM bought him the phone as a reward for good grades and takes it away at night.
- Serizawa stopped being a shut in and his GPS app is allowing him the independence to be out and about for the first time in his life. His smartphone gives him the agency to start living on his own terms, just as Reigen’s flip phone allows him to stay focused on what’s important to him.
- Reigen for all his sweaty conman disasterness is a dilligent, organized, autodidact, that started his own successful business at 25. He doesn’t play games, he’s constantly working on his business, and he understands and is proud of how offbeat and uncommon that is....but he’s not beyond moments of insecurity driven impulsiveness. It’s incredibly consistantly depicted, him being a spoilsport about the game, buying the phone, but also throwing it when he doesn’t get the in game item he wants.
- Reigen isn’t someone that does a half assed job. He gives 110% even on jobs he’s not being paid....so it makes perfect sense that he can’t seem to stop himself from becoming overly dedicated to a phone game.
-But lastly, some culture/language meta. The characters and series is japanese, the artist that drew this comic is chinese, and it’s being translated into english by an american. The little girl at the phone store says “Mom, that basic guy has one of those basic phones.” what she really says, is “Mom look that guy has a flip phone, it’s so provincial/rural.”
China has this interesting divide between the urban and rural population. Where people living in cities view people out in the countryside as dumb rednecks that are decades behind in education, technology, social norms...etc. This is not true, but saying that someone is from the countryside is a massive insult. No one wants to be seen that way.
English lacks this divide between urban vs rural, and the only word that fits even a little is “basic.”
So even if this is a fanart for a japanese series, the context of that line can really only be understood in chinese, and there’s no word that really comes close to that idea in english. From a translation standpoint I find that really interesting, when media hops countries it loses, but also gains things.
God I love this comic so much
