Strawberry Macedonia - A Family Favorite! One of my favorite things to make during the summer in Italy is picking fresh fruits such as cherries, strawberries, and figs. As we prepare for our 2022 October guests and organizing our 2023 events, we decided to prepare a refreshing and delicious recipe made with fresh strawberries and marinated in a blend of fresh orange juice, lemon juice and honey. A special dessert that our family has made for many centuries and one that is perfect at any time! Strawberry macedonia and can be customized in various ways such as adding a favorite liquor, for example rum, limoncello or grand marnier, and topped with fresh whipped cream or vanilla ice cream or both, then add fresh mint leaves as the final touch! Simple, elegant and irresistible! Enjoy! Yields: 4 portions Prep time: 10 minutes Resting Time: 60 minutes Ingredients: 2 cups (300 g) strawberries, cleaned, stalk/leaves removed, and cut into small cubes Juice of 1-2 oranges Juice of half a lemon 1-2 tablespoon pure honey (can use sugar or maple syrup) 2 tablespoons liquor (your choice) Directions: Wash strawberries in cold water, remove the stalk/leaves, dry with paper towels, and cut into small cubes. Pace in a mixing bowl and set aside. In another mixing bowl, add the juice of oranges, lemon, honey and liquor (if using), mix well. Add the mixture to the strawberries and gently mix until well combined. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it rest in the refrigerator for one hour. A fresh and tasty syrup will form. Mix the macedonia before placing in serving cups and top with fresh whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, sprinkle with juice of the marinade and top with fresh mint leaves as the final touch. Notes: To give a slightly aromatic flavor to your macedonia, wash the strawberries in cold water with a little balsamic vinegar before cutting them into small cubes.
