Banshee for an october prompt! This character is actually a redesign of a very old design I had laying around

as red as a sour cherry! (her name is probably višnja)

update: i just wanted to write that these are more character design explorations than an actual showcase of folk costume from the banat region of vojvodina, they definitely aren’t 100% accurate and i am actually still working on these!

This is the second of five redesigns of Slavic Mythology spirits! This time it's the Rusalka!

Usually a sexualized and drowned maiden, I didn't want to go that route. Originally, The Rusalka was a sort of fertility and harvest related nymph, before the course of hundreds of years of oral storytelling and altering her narrative made her the siren-like spirit that can be well known!

I wanted to play off these both, she has flowers, a flower crown in both her real form and her luring form. I wanted to play with her luring her victims differently, and more of an angler fish vibe as well, more of a child begging for help, only to have the victim be met with the scary reality.

what continues to bug me a bit about the conversation regarding album design is that caring about aesthetics seemingly gets painted as a sign of being ungrateful or too demanding or whatever, and it's not? I had this conversation on the blog before and yes Taylor is a musician not a visual artist and yes I can understand why both folkmore and the rerecordings look the way they do (surprise drop with presumably short notice for designers + the focus not being on physical copies but rather streaming and licensing) BUT! the fact remains that for many people having a pretty object to go along with an album they like is incredibly important. (Look at the rise of vinyl sales!) It obviously isn't the main focus but it does a great job at enhancing the experience of music and so it is in no way shape or form weird to be a bit bummed out when you do not get this. And it's also not like Taylor has to design an album all by herself - she has the resources to pay a team of graphic designers that visualize her ideas (and Taylor IS good at tying aesthetics to an album) for her and then allow her to make the final choices on what goes. It is not off base to wish for carefully designed and thought-out album packaging (especially if the artist you want it from has had some incredibly fun packaging throughout her career) and it also is not a slight against Taylor as a person.

finished the actual uni project like a week ago now but this was real fun. (the doggo is a redesign of another student's character)

"don't assume bad faith, it's just a part of a big mod :(" well should i assume good faith for the streamers who are using that crutch to be racist, then? should i assume good faith that killing indigenous caricatures has become a norm on that server? that people are encouraged to wear those masks acquired from killing them? that racism is just being ignored and enabled, it's okay, it's okay, so long as it's in your stupid fantasy game, nevermind that racism has been able to permeate this media because of how little people care to recognize it and call it out, preferring to douse it in a thousand excuses?

a redesign of an old character! I l really love the flowing in water effect you see on some magic/mermaid folk, so this was something I defo wanted to include in a character. Anyway, here’s the original design if you’re interested, see how it’s changed!  Which colour scheme is your favourite?

guys i'm gonna choose taylor for one of my semester projects but idk which era to do!! i have to design a brochure, merch, a cd and two more things that i can't remember rn and the professor said to choose smth with a lot of graphic material so it's easier for us to design stuff

What if... folklore had another cover(s)?

I've always liked the look of a cohesive island theme but struggled with committing to one theme (like city or cottage core) and didn't like that my island felt all over the place in design so I decided to for the first time ever completely flatten my island and restart to a theme.

What it looks like now:

Like I said above, I'm not good at committing to one design theme so I decided instead to theme it after the eras tour/Taylor swift music eras so I could do a variety of spaces and use items I love but didn't feel like I could use in my last island design.

The idea with some blocking down:

As you can see my island will have two ish layers: The raised stage and the rest of the island

My plan for the raised stage:

As you walk down the stage you enter each era with items/set ups inspired by the show itself.

My house is going to be moved to the center end of the stage to act as holiday house/ lover house (I've heard it be called both). I don't plan on redesigning the inside of my house at least for now bc I like how it looks.

To the left of the stage:

Each quadrant has been assigned an era. Within each era I'm putting one villager house that is designed with the album vibe in mind. This part is kinda more like the general feel of each album and what's stuck out to me over the years of listening to the different songs

To the right of the stage:

I am planning on making two surprise song sections and then merch. (Right now the main buildings are just out of the way while I figure out the layout)

I'm also planning on adding an Easter egg or two of my own to my island 😉 (to clarify I know nothing so this point is mostly a joke)

Anywayssss this has just been a personal project of my own just for fun as a side thing as I try to sort my life out which has been v relaxing
