Well, now that it’s confirmed without a shadow of a doubt that Flyingbark is no longer working on LMK, I gotta admit, I’m feeling pretty crushed. I adored Flyingbarks animation, the amount of little details and love and care you could feel in their work. It was so inspiring to me. It makes me want to practice and pursue my dream of being an animator.
That’s not to say I’m just going to drop Lmk and never touch it again because a different animation studio is working on the show. I love Lmk dearly, I have been so inspired by this show, it’s stories, and characters. I have made stories and ocs of my own that I love so much for this show because it inspired me. But it wasn’t just the animation that did that.
I’m going to watch season 5, and I’m going to keep an open mind going into it, I’m not going to just abandon something I love because of a change in production.

Season three of Lego Monkie Kid was a blast to work on! I had the opportunity to lead the character layout team, which involved helping to train the new CharLay artists and giving notes on shots, as well as working on some shots of my own here and there. It was great to get to chat with the team, and I learned a tonne! Big thanks to our Animation Director Christian, and the production and animation supervision teams for giving me the opportunity, and to the CharLay team for being so cool to work with. Here is a dump of some of the shots I got to do the CharLay for on the first three episodes. Hope you enjoy! #lego #monkiekid #legomonkiekid #flyingbark #flyingbarkproductions #characterlayout #characterdesign #animation #2danimation #artofinstagram #toonboom #toonboomharmony https://www.instagram.com/p/CgDkOEQvdCA/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Okay so saw the trailer for Season 5 of LMK and the discord that is happening. So I did a little research and here’s some information all LMK fans should be aware of. (EDIT: new information has come forth)
Link (One of the people who worked on Monkie Kid at FlyingBark has now made a statement, I’ve rebloged the tweet for anyone who may not have access to twitter)
Looks like it’s official that Flying Bark will no longer be working on LMK.
https://issuu.com/brunico-issuu/docs/kidscreen_febmar23_lowres/s/18007818 (<- Link to article)
It looks like LEGO has given WildBrain studios the license to LMK for the next 2 seasons plus a Special.
(It has been shown to me, that I have mis interpreted the information in the Kidscreen article and I apologize for that. I was trying to find some string of answers and jumped onto the first thread of evidence I could find.
What does remain true is WildBrains credentials and to please not point your annoyance, frustration, and disappointment onto either of the animation studios, or their staff, if your goal is for better animation your best corse of action is still to push LEGO company about it)
Now first off I want to say that The Vancouver studio they are talking about is pretty good, they used to be DHX and the part of DHX that did My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, along with Carmen Sandiego, so they do know how to animate 2D pretty well but it’s all rigged 2D either done through Flash or Harmony, so doubtful we will get the kind of battle animation we got from Barks studios.
PLEASE don’t stop supporting or watching LMK that’s not going to help, it’s probably already set in stone that WildBrain will have LMK for the at least the next 2 seasons plus special, also don’t attack WildBrain that’s like complaining to a cashier about how a store is run don’t do that. Also don’t go after the show runners(ie: writers); they are the cashier supervisors; When it comes to massive properties like LEGO, they have no control over who the company hires to be cashiers.
If you're going to complain to anyone, complain to LEGO company, (the part that has control over shows, not the one that has control over lego sets). Now don’t say things like “if you keep this studio I’m gonna stop watching Monkie Kid and buying your merch” don’t do this it will only cause LEGO to drop the show, if a show doesn’t have the view numbers or the merch numbers, they’ll drop the show regardless of the praise or complains about said show.
Question Lego about their choices, request Lego for animation the same quality as the previous season, question lego how to get flybark’s animation back.(new info has come in, please read link to twitter statement or the reblog of the twitter statement)
Please reblog this, or screen shot and repost what I am saying; this is the one case where I give permission. I know a lot of fans are spinning (Me included) right now and I don’t want anyone to take out their annoyance, frustration and disappointment on the wrong people.

On a more serious note, I genuinely wanted to say.. it's okay to miss Flying Bark. Flying Bark brought us something truly special that I don't think could ever be replicated to a T, and that is okay. LEGO Monkie Kid was one of those shows that caught my attention the moment I saw it; the visuals, the voice acting, the story, the music, ALL of it sparked something in me. It brought forth a newfound passion for animation that I had never felt before. to the point where I created a Lego character as a muse for animation projects l'd make for my Personal Exploration class.
I would constantly look back at the amazing shots and scenes, and supported every single animator. Of course, like a lot of people, I was one of the people who came for the animation, but ultimately stayed for the story. But, I understand that the impact FlyingBark had was HUGE on many people who watched it. But, my only wish is that this loss doesn't become resentment. I want LEGO Monkie Kid to thrive with Wild Brain now working on it more than anything, and I think, as a community, we should give them all the support they can get!
Wild Brain could give us a new experience unlike any other, and I want us all to be there for the ride, and show our love to everyone on the team. We gotta understand that while the visuals will be different, Wild Brain is doing everything they can to give us an experience we will never forget, and will enjoy just the same, to keep this show we love alive and stronger.
I think we should look back on one of the very first quotes of the show, in the pilot:
"The thing you need to understand about the old legends is that the story is never finished. There maybe no pages left to turn, but there is always more to the journey."
While specific, this quote has been given a new meaning to me; While Flying Bark may no longer be working on the show, they are not gone. The impact that FlyingBark has had on all of us, on the show, is and will always be felt. FlyingBark introduced us to something special; LEGO Monkie Kid would probably not be as popular as it is now, if it weren't for the soul it was given with a type of animation many have not seen for a long time, and that will never die. The writers, the VAs, the music production, and the new team Wild Brain, is here to continue and give life to a new adventure; a new era of LEGO Monkie Kid, and I want all of us to support them so we can watch this show succeed.
With that, I have but one thing to say to Wild Brain:

Welcome aboard, buds. 💛

MY DEARIES 😭 IT'S FINALLY HEREE
At first ...i would be lying if i didn't admit i was sad and disappointed by the animation of the trailer, without being aware of the 'flyingbark replacement' i was confused when watching it.
It's going to take awhile for me to grow on Wildbrain. But i'd say its not that bad. I can see the effort that they tried to make the art style atleast the same as before. And hey, i don't want to be judging quick since the studio IS still getting used to the style. (Like flying barks on the pilot) I hope that the future seasons they will get the hang of it... you will be missed flyingbark 😔
(now that i get that off of my chest, i was atleast joyful to see my dragonfruit lovies are back❤️)

opinions on the new lmk s5 trailer (spoilers.. duh..)
Correct me if I'm wrong on anything btw 😭
Flyingbark studio is no longer doing LMK, which lowkey makes me upset because they already abounded ROTTMNT.. sigh, but now we have Wildbrain. At first I was a little skeptical as Wildbrain mostly does 3D stuff and LMK, well, isnt really 3D that much.. so.. Also there's been a lot of backlash about the animation style change and expression etc with the characters. Which, I can kinda see 😭 In some of the scenes it looks really stiff or the expressions look almost lifeless.. kinda..
in reality, it is just a TV show that I enjoy, it's fine if the animation changes. perhaps it's like how flyingbark progressed their artstyle from s1 to s4. wildbrain will most likely improve, and they have the same writers/story boarders from previous seasons (I think), so I'm assuming the lore will be pleasant. Either way, I will still watch it, multiple fans have expressed their opinions and even said they'd still watch themself even with the change. I won't have high expectations though after seeing the change in animation from the trailer. Sure, change will be hard, but I will adjust, eventually, hopefully.
I am grateful and glad that the new season might be out soon, along with the sets, and that they at least gave the fandom something to work with. It may not be perfect, but I'll take it.
Another thing I've heard is that the trailer could be unfinished or rather just rushed. LMK is a show that is mostly running off of.. well. the lego sets... So, maybe they rushed the trailer because the lego sets aren't gonna wait forever. But, with time Wildbrain will obviously get better too. It'll be different and may not be able to replicate some of the close up, fighting scenes, etc, but I'm sure they'll do good! wildbrain has worked with many other animations, one of my favorites being Sonic Prime. Sooo, yk!! (I believe they worked on Ninjago too??... idk guys..)
Of course, the whole trailer isn't actually trash or anything. there are some cool scenes and animation! I like one of the MK close ups, and the snippet at the end with Red Son and Mei, and another one of Chang'e looking up at the broken world or however it is 😭 But those scenes are pretty and whoever worked on those did the lego style pretty well! Again, I'm also really excited for the story and I'm just glad it didn't get canceled 😭😭
Oh yeah also, who even knows is S5 animation is gonna look like how it was animated in the trailer?? Maybe it'll look different in S5, so, there's always that possibility too. Kinda goes with the trailer being rushed or wtv but 🤷‍♂️
TLDR: it'll take me a bit to adjust to the new animation style but wildbrain also has time to improve their lego style and I'm also just glad it didn't get canceled.

In light of the recent news of how FlyingBark will no longer be working on Lego Monkie Kid and the transfer of power to WildBrain; who will subsequently be handling future animation of the show, I'd like to ask for your aid in an endeavor. I am trying to rally the fandom together. If it's not too much to ask of you or any followers: I'd like to get #FarewellEqualToHeaven trending on Twitter. This is an important moment for the fandom. We can't just let this transition happen quietly. We gotta say our dues. FlyingBark will be awake tomorrow, and they need to see the work the animators put in was seen and loved by us, and they'll take our positive energy with them to their new projects and who knows. Maybe a little bit of internet magic tonight will do something for the future, you feel me? It'd mean the moon if we could get that trending. We need to say our goodbyes, our thank you's, and share our favorite moments with them. I highly appreciate any and all assistance on this.
I dont use twitter and im literally going to go to bed rn but if anyone wants to join in on this it sounds like a good idea. Let Flying Bark know how grateful we are for the last 4 years.

finally feel confident enough to speak my thoughts on the lmk s5 trailer
Just to recap, I held back saying anything at first cuz I don't handle change very well, and I didn't have a very good immediate reaction to the trailer. I wont go into detail other than saying I was upset about how different it was.
I'm not upset anymore. Do I wish we still had FlyingBark? ofc, I love their animation and I always will. But I know I can learn to love WildBrain as well.
I know we are all surprised with the style change, but the hate I'm seeing thrown at WildBrain is insane and extremely uncalled for.
I want to state this here and now, if I see anyone hating on and/or harassing the company or the animators I will be blocking you immediately.
Imagine how this company feels, having these giant shoes to fill. They post one trailer and are suddenly bombarded with hate?? That's not cool, guys. I know we were all thrown off at first, but there's no need to be nasty.
This is still the same show and the same story. This studio just animates differently. Will it be a bit of an adjustment period? Yes. Does that mean you should stop watching the show? NO.
If you start complaining or threaten to stop watching, LMK will get cancelled. It's as simple as that. LEGO is a big enough corporation that they won't think twice about it. If you still want to see the story and character development and voice actors, KEEP SUPPORTING THE SHOW!
@cacophony-eg made this wonderful post explaining a few of these things in detail, along with a few links for reference, as well as edits for when they found new information, so check that out if you're interested!
And lastly, THANK YOU WildBrain for taking the time to continue to tell this shows story, and thank you to all the animators that are putting effort into it. I know your welcome party wasn't as welcoming as it could've been, but I hope the fans that stick around can make up for it <3
