updated my island flag! this was way harder than it looks. i did upload that first photograph onto acpatterns but it defintely needed tweaking and i also had already planned to edit out those even blurrier flowers in the background, so i ended up editing a lot and changing the color palette a little bit too. i used the other photograph as a reference as well. believe it or not the stem was the hardest part, because there wasnt a lot of room to add a stem that looked appealing by the way it was shaped and then there wasnt a lot of room to shade the stem cuz its thin obviously and working with pixels on acnh can be a little limiting in that you have to use certain shades and certain patterns in order to create smooth shading that doesnt look pixilated. i’m proud of myself for my first real try at custom designing. (i wont count the designs i made as a child or the simple quick stuff ive thrown together as an adult, although any practice is better than none when it comes to custom designs on animal crossing)
also, as ive spoken about several times on this blog, ive recently started allowing myself to draw again after i stopped drawing for like ten years (other than a couple other attempts) and it’s such a relief to be able to get into a flow with drawing for the first time since i was a teenager. i enjoyed the process, and i also am happy with the outcome so that’s a nice bonus.
oh also apparently to save a QR code from acpatterns you dont get to name it? or at least i cant find a way to other than to submit my design or whatever so thats why the image says by unknown from unknown lol

Am I Nuts for Thinking a Jewish Florist Should Have To Make an Easter Arrangement?
One thing I tried to impress upon my Con Law students this semester (and every semester) is that the interplay between anti-discrimination law and freedom of speech (and freedom of religion) is complicated and raises a host of thorny questions that defy easy resolution. These issues, of course, lie at the forefront of the 303 Creative case currently before the Supreme Court, which I'm sure will address them with the care, nuance, and sensitivity they deserve [/sarcasm].
But on that matter, I want to flag a hypothetical offered by prominent First Amendment specialist and former federal judge Michael McConnell, to get folks' intuitions on:
What if a Jewish florist is asked to design the floral display of white lilies on Easter Sunday morning at a Christian church? Ordinarily, flowers are just flowers. But the lilies in church on Easter morning are a symbol of the new life in Christ. I cannot believe that a free nation would compel a Jewish florist to construct a symbol of Christ's resurrection—on pain of losing the right to be a florist.
McConnell frames this as his "personal favorite hypothetical", and clearly perceives it as a knockout argument for the pro-free speech/religious liberty side. But perhaps I'm not fully grasping the facts, because speaking as a Jew this prospect doesn't seem that frightening to me.
Suppose I'm a Jewish florist. A customer comes in and says "I've seen the lovely work you've done with white lilies, could you please make a similar display for me?" I agree, since I have loads of experience working with white lilies. The customer then says, "thanks -- we plan on putting this display up in our church on Easter morning!" This prospect ... doesn't upset me. I don't intuitively think I should be able to refuse the customer, notwithstanding the fact that I obviously don't believe in the divinity of Christ, and I don't view continuing to serve the customer as forcing me to avow any beliefs I don't hold.
At root, the reason why this prospect isn't bothersome is because I don't view my customer's use of my flowers as representing my speech. I just design the flowers; what they do with it is their business. If someone sees the arrangement at church and learns that David's Flowers created it, I do not expect them to think "wow, I had no idea David believed in Christ's divinity!" This isn't to say I have no free speech concerns regarding flower arrangements -- I would very much chafe at government regulations that, for example, regulate what shapes I can use in my designs. That part very much is my expression, would be attributed to me -- the churchgoer who compliments the pattern of the flowers would credit those decisions to David's Flowers (I wrote about this a few years ago as the problem of partially expressive conduct).
There are still plenty of tough cases at the margins. I show my customer a preliminary design; they twist their lip and say "I dunno ... it's just not capturing the majesty of Christ's resurrection, you know?" I'm at a loss ("So ... bigger?"). But I'm inclined to think that while such an example might demonstrate why I might be a bad choice to design the arrangement, it doesn't give me the right to discriminate against the customer if they are in fact thrilled with the work I do and have done for other customers.
For me, then, McConnell's hypothetical has the opposite effect than what he intended. And of course, for many Jews -- particularly Jews who live in predominantly non-Jewish areas -- the more salient threat is that local businesses will be given carte blanche authority to refuse to service any of our religious life cycle events lest it be seen as "approving" of them. To let vendors say "ordinarily, a cake is just a cake -- but a cake served at a Bar Mitzvah has religious significance that we, as Christians, cannot approve of" is not a door I want to open.
But perhaps some of my readers disagree. Curious to hear people's thoughts on this.

Untitled (The Mary Heye Bottle)
Smithsonian American Art Museum and its Renwick Gallery
Sand bottles are made, quite literally, a grain of sand at a time. The grains are stacked and pushed around until layers and colors form a desired design, which is then pressured into place with a waxed stopper. Part painting, part sculpture, the resulting artform is unique and often quite astonishing.
Andrew Clemens lived his entire life in Iowa's Mississippi River Valley. He lost his hearing during a childhood illness and thereafter attended the Iowa State School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs. There he discovered an aptitude and affinity for handcrafts. During summers at home, he collected pieces of colored sandstone in the Pictured Rocks area of Iowa's Pikes Peak State Park then ground them into a palette of earth-toned colors. His sand bottles began as simple designs, becoming increasingly intricate over time and taking as much as a year to complete. Ultimately, Clemens shaped a profession of making customized sand bottles on commission; The Mary Heye Bottle, made at the zenith of his career, was one of these commissions. One side bears the honoree's name, the year the bottle was made, and a detailed floral arrangement. The other side has a flying eagle carrying the United States flag, and an array of precise geometric ornamentation. Clemens produced hundreds of sand bottles but only a small number survive.

Florist Talk: daily tasks
I recently made a post with bullet points talking about some of the common aspects of being a florist (caveat: at a mom n pop shop in a small town in the US, not all points apply universally). This time I'm going to narrow down on the normal sorts of everyday, week to week aspects. This is written as though it's a guide for the writing of Florist AU fiction/fanfiction, so occasionally I'll refer to the example Florist as your Florablorb, or, now, Florbo for short.
May this be of use to anyone writing such a story in order to simply ground your character in everyday tasks when plot/characterization needs to happen.
Opening tasks: I'm sure you can imagine. Doors open, lights on, computer/POS logged into and till shift opened, any ambient music turned on. Extra details can be added such as dragging out sandwich board signs or those outdoor flags or maybe even an outside display stand/cart (only in warmer months) or shoveling/salting a walkway (if in a snowy time/place).
Then Florbo goes into the walk-in flower cooler and removes any flower arrangements premade for delivery on this day. Maybe delivery slips are organized now, maybe left for when a delivery will actually be made. Anything that was ordered in day(s) before this one should be delivered on the first run of the day if possible.
If there's a florist website it's possible web orders came in after previous day's closing/before opening this one. They might autoprint and simply need to be collected off the printer. If they exist they get sorted into same-day or put into whatever organization system is used for future orders. The shop I work at has a series of cubbies labeled Monday through Saturday; order sheets are folded in half and put into whatever day it's meant for.
Start working on whatever flower orders came in for this day. If they're done before first delivery time then they can go out with the others. If not, they'll go out later. On a busy day, an unspecified or "designer's choice" arrangement can be chosen from the display cooler for speed. It'll be replaced by a design of similar price when more time is available.
If calls or walk in customers happen during any of this then they're handled in between the rest of it.
Usually in my experience there's minimum two deliveries per day: one mid morning / before noon, and one after lunch breaks are taken / mid-afternoon. Rarely are there fewer runs, and occasionally more orders come in during or after the second run so a third (or fourth, or sometimes, rarely, even a fifth) are needed. This might be very modest given the size of the shop/town I work in; more may be normal (especially with a dedicated driver) in a larger or busier city.
Again, usually I can get any same-day morning orders done either before or just after lunch breaks conclude. Again, this might vary place to place, and definitely varies day to day.
Lunch breaks can be half an hour to a full hour depending on your place and person and how busy it all is. I've got a near-retirement boss who likes to go out to lunch and takes a full hour. I usually only do half an hour unless for some reason I need to run home for lunch in which case I can typically have an hour as well.
If and when same-day orders are finished, Florbo will get into the cubby/other organization and find anything already there for the next day and start working on those orders. Floral arrangements go into the back cooler (not the display one, to avoid confusion/people walking in and wanting to buy things already made for others). Any live plants or gift-type items go on some sort of shelf or counter or other out of the way surface. Confusion can happen if Florbo doesn't pay attention to dates: an order for Monday the first will be in the same cubby as an order for Monday the eighth. Gotta try to stay on top of that but mistakes can happen.
If a same-day order is made while working on next-day orders, it gets priority.
Obvious is obvious but orders that go to schools have to get there comfortably before school lets out. If that is just not feasible because someone up and ordered fifteen minutes before the final bell they'll need to be told that it's gonna be a tomorrow thing now. This usually isn't an issue.
There's usually a same-day delivery time cutoff, usually sometime in the afternoon. How strictly it is followed may vary by the day and store. If someone tries to skirt this cutoff by ordering online they may or may not need to be called and informed that it's not gonna work this day. There will be a separate post on Delivery Protocol later because that gets a bit long.
Make any arrangements needed to refill the display cooler. Every few days or so, recut and rewater any arrangements left in the display cooler to give them more longevity.
Normal cleaning chores might be done during lulls as well. Dusting shelves or watering live plants is occasional, but sweeping the work area and cooler floors is daily. No matter how careful you are in cutting leaves and flower stems stuff will end up on the floor. Some of those stems will ricochet wildly when clipped.
Flower deliveries come about twice a week. They could arrive any time of day, even overnight (warehouse drivers will usually have a key shop to put them inside for you) depending on your suppliers and their routes. Flowers arrive bundled in big, long boxes, and must be trimmed and put into water treated with flower food.
Flower food comes either in big buckets of white powder (mixed into water) or big buckets of liquid concentrate (again, mixed into water, and a handy hose that connects it to the water source through a special nozzle makes this much easier. The nozzle is squeezed like a gas pump and can be used to fill buckets/vases/jugs directly).
Closing bits are just what you'd expect. Sometimes someone calls or walks in five minutes before closing, and Florbo must unfortunately suffer this.
SATURDAY SPECIAL: any and all of the above needed, but this tends to be the slowest day for orders and deliveries, so instead some of the time is filled by removing literally all flowers from the walk in cooler, sweeping and mopping the floor, and recutting/reorganizing/refreshing all the water buckets. This includes emptying a bucket used to collect cooler condensation water via a hose. There's never much in the winter but in the summer this has to be done two or three times a week otherwise it gets too full to lift or carry and your poor Florbo, if they have floppy arms, might be forced to drag it across the floor to tip it outside.
Of course things can vary depending on the day and vary even more if there's some kind of holiday altering the flow of business, but that bit's for a later post. This one's gotten long enough.
So go now, and couch your Florbo's dialogue and narrative in actions such as processing a fresh order of flowers from the wholesaler, or in resorting to dusting shelves for the third time that week because business has been so slow and they've run out of normal things to do and space in the display cooler to make things for. There is much variety to be had beyond writing them arranging yet another dozen roses every time plot rears its head!

The Ultimate Guide to Finding the Perfect Hobo Hat
The classic hobo hat captures carefree wanderlust and adventurous living. Its wide brims and loose style nod to vagrant ramblers riding the rails ages ago. Though originally utilitarian headgear for laborers and itinerant migrants, today the hobo hat makes a fashion statement embracing nonconformity. CaribbeanHobo.com offers a fabulous selection of hats repping island life for the modern hobo. Keep reading for an in-depth guide to finding the ideal hat fitting your personal style. Learn pro tips for choosing fabrics, sizes and custom details so your hat becomes a staple of your iconic island-hopping ensemble.
Consider Hat Fabrics
Hobo lifestyle hats come in a range of materials that balance aesthetics, breathability and durability. Straw options like raffia make ultra-lightweight statement hats perfect for beach settings and tropical climates. Straw breathes well, though offers less warmth and structural integrity over time than other fabrics. Felt or wool styles provide sturdier, shape-holding options in classic hobo looks. Canvas hat with a waterproof wax coating add weatherproofing. This guide focuses on selecting stylish hat shapes and embellishments, as CaribbeanHobo.com conveniently allows you to customize any design on your choice of fabrics.
Tumblr media
Compare Styles: Fedora, Gambler or Flat-Brimmed
The floppy silhouettes of hobo hats encompass a few distinct crown and brim shapes. Classic fedora styles have indented crowns and slightly upturned brims. Gambler hats have flat tops and wide, down-turned brims. Flat-brim styles mimic baseball caps with horizontal tops and visors. CaribbeanHobo.com offers all three stylish shapes to match your personal vibes. Those wanting vintage throwback appeal might choose a rugged wool fedora, while beach bums may prefer a raffia gambler hat.
Size Your Hobo Hat Properly
Sizing your custom hobo hat prevents problems like headaches or looking overwhelmed. Measure the circumference of your head to determine ideal hat dimensions accounting for hair volume. Loose-fittinggambler and fedora hat styles Drape well slightly above or resting on your ears. Stiff canvas flat-brims should align with the top of ears without drooping too low over eyes. Tall crown heights help hats stay anchored on heads for adequate shade and rain protection. For folded storage while island hopping, consider sizing up. All CaribbeanHobo.com hat patterns include specific sizing instructions and size chart recommendations for a precision fit.
Pick Hat Colors and Patterns
What colors and prints make you feel most island adventurous? CaribbeanHobo.com offers hobo hats ranging from nautical navy styles to vibrant island floral designs. Customize ideal combinations of hat fabric and print patterns for your personal island vibe. Contrasting hatband ribbon colors also help designs pop. Or choose rich solids in ocean blues, island greens or sand hues. Prints showing palm trees, pineapple motifs or Caribbean flags inject region-appropriate looks.
Add Custom Details
Tumblr media
Elevate basic hobo hats with thoughtful custom details that tell your travel story. Consider an engraved nameplate or sentimental patch sewn onto your hat’s side band. The crown offers space for embroidery signatures, island mantras or compass motifs to guide your journey. For globetrotters and digital nomads, customize a hat with collected destination pin badges marking past sites and future plans.

Letterpress is a bough of olive branches, eucalyptus, or oak leaves. Give your program earthy character by printing on seed paper embedded with wildflowers. Guests can plant biodegradable mementos in their gardens to symbolize new beginnings as you celebrate your union.
Interactive and Entertaining
Ramp up engagement during your ceremony with wedding invitation ideas. Print easily tear-out elements so guests can participate. Encourage Little Wedding Chapel vibes with a “Just Married” sign to hold in photos. Or provide bubbles, sparklers, or flags for a festive recessional sendoff.
Tuck a custom bookmark inside for literary weddings so guests can underline their favorite passages. Movie buffs might appreciate cinema bingo cards to check off wedding film references spotted in the decor and attire. Got tagged by @morewyckedthanyou, thanks a lot for the tag! Always up for talking about myself! :D
favourite colour(s): I love greens, especially desaturated/dusty shades and deep, dark, cool shades, leaning towards turquoise. Also dark purple, burgundy, and light/muted shades of pink.
favourite flavour(s): So hard to choose! I live for food, and unfortunately my tastes are very unhealthy. Salt in both food and candy (the saltier the salmiakki, the better), creamy/buttery things, sweet and sour candies, savoury treats, umami foods, give me everything except for things that are too sweet in the wrong way (the way that things like figs and applesauce are sweet). And of course spices! I especially love East and South Asian kinds of spice combos.
favourite genre(s): Fantasy, magical realism, mystery
favorite music: Ranges from dance pop to rock to metal, and my ears do like classical stuff and musical songs as well, even though I don't really actively listen to those. Well, I don't actively listen to music in general these days, but I've had stages in my life when I did, my 80's rock and metal phases being the most prominent ones. Nowadays I just listen to whatever strikes my fancy or happens to get stuck in my head.
favourite movie(s): I'm more of a series kind of person than a movie person, it's always difficult to come up with favourite movies (though I'm sure there are many that I'm simply forgetting) - except for the LotR trilogy, those have been my favourites since they came out and they still hold up (even though they're not perfect, they're very close!)
favourite series: This is hard to answer since there are shows that I have been absolutely obsessed with for years and years in the past that I'm now totally ambivalent about or even actively dislike (Sherlock is a prime example), and nowadays I don't watch that much stuff. I don't even have a TV or any subscription services. A big recent favourite has been Our Flag Means Death, and one long-time fave that I'm still fond of is Steven Universe. Oh, and Hannibal! That was a damn good show.
last song: The Chain by Fleetwood Mac, I'm trying to create a custom map of the song for this VR drumming game I've been playing with a friend. Chose it because it's rather bare-bones, not too fast, and has a clear rhythm.
last series: The Witcher, finally got around to checking it out. There are amusing parts but it's a bit too gruesomely violent and bleak for my taste (in a similar way to Game Of Thrones), and somewhat confusing plotwise and character motivation-wise, as I haven't played the games or read the books.
last movie: I think it must have been Black Panther 2? I don't watch that many movies either.
currently reading: Nothing, unfortunately. Too much stuff to do to invest time in a book, though I would really like to read more.
currently working on: That custom song map, an art nouveau floral tiffany mirror design for my glassworking course, and a fic that's not progressing at all because of the aforementioned other projects...
If we're mutuals, I'm tagging you! I'd like to know more about you lovely people :>

Which are the types of decoration For Ramadan And Eid
People fast during the holy month of Ramadan and pray to God for their loved ones' health and prosperity. They refrain from engaging in any activity that could hinder their quest for enlightenment and spirituality. The best Ramadan gifts to give close friends and family members during Ramadan are Arabian attars, dry fruits, and fresh fruits.
You can give your space a festive feel by decorating for Ramadan. Additionally, it will promote serenity and tranquillity, manifesting in your behaviour and aiding in forging a spiritual bond with Allah throughout the fasting month.
Here are some easy-to-do-but-wonderful Ramadan decoration ideas to adorn your home and set the perfect mood.
1. Tie Happy Ramadan banners on the walls of your home. The flag can be made at home by cutting colourful chart paper into the shape of a mosque and writing Happy Ramadan over them. You can also hang it at the front door to extend a warm welcome to all of your visitors.
2. When celebrating holidays like Ramadan, flickering, fairy lights, electric tea lights, and decorative lamps are some of the best decorative items to use. To celebrate the beginning of Ramadan, people in some Muslim nations also adorn their homes with lanterns. To fill your home with the light of love and joy, you can hang decorative lanterns on doors and windows.
3. Hanging star boxes, made of handmade paper and have lovely designs, come with a per-attached gold string that you can use to hang in your rooms, on your doors, and in your windows for a beautiful Ramadan decoration.
4. A lovely wreath will be ideal for your home's Ramadan decor. You can purchase them from any online gift store or make your own home using fresh flowers, satin ribbons, and a wreath with Ramadan Mubarak inscribed in the centre. You can hang it inside or on your front door to spread holiday cheer during the auspicious month of Ramadan.
The typical ways that people observe Eid include donning new clothing, visiting family, and indulging in delicious food. Additionally, they provide the best Eid gifts for their friends and family.
5. The main decorative elements that make any celebration more enjoyable are balloons. If you're sick of the same old plain balloons, give them a glittery makeover to use as Ramadan decorations. First, blow up the balloons and use a paintbrush to apply a generous layer of glue to the tops of each one. After that, dip the balloons' pointed ends into the glitter bowl and let them dry. And your balloons covered in glitter are prepared to decorate your home for Ramadan.
6. You can decorate your home with a crescent-shaped Ramadan tree with stars, ornaments, fairy lights, and colorful ribbons. Your home will become more cheerful and bright, and your Ramadan celebration will be more enjoyable and memorable.
7. Create your original whiteboard calendar to countdown to Ramadan. You can write the Sawhorse and If tar times for each day on the whiteboard, which you can decorate with floral patterns using markers.
If wearing Hobo lifestyle hats to promote brands, products or causes, order custom logo patches added with reliable stitching. CaribbeanHobo.com makes it easy to integrate personalized touches onto any hat order. Get creative dreaming up unique embellishments aligned to your island identity. Then rest assured knowing expert in-house tailoring handles ornamenting your custom vagabond headgear.
Conclusion
Hopefully this guide brought you closer to discovering your perfect island wandering companion hat at caribbeanhobo.com. Their designs empower embodying the modern hobo ethos however you envision it, from vintage train hopper to backpack beach bum. What added touches will make your hat truly yours?
