an illustration for Depth Cues, Issue 3 - Bloom.

Minari hit close to home for me in many respects - I wanted to highlight this scene in particular. the film did so well in portraying the immigrant experience from the perspective of the adults, as well as the children. though it was only a small moment in the film, the exchanged dialogue made me feel seen.

hats off to both this film and the editors over at Depth Cues for their beautiful works.

1 of 2 for the DCMK FF Server Noir Zine! @magmatickobaian and I collaborated to create a series of film noir-style posters of the first few movies. <3

We opted to limit ourselves to the first six. Skyscraper has a special place in my heart for doing a lot of things right as the first movie of the franchise. My appreciation for it has only gone up over the years, particularly in how comparatively grounded and high-stakes it feels compared to the most recent installments ;.;

here's the SNL skit I mentioned in the intro. I truly had no recollection that it was from Anya Taylor-Joy's episode until I rewatched it to post here

I poke pretty hard at some movies here, but at the end of the day, this is all in good fun. if you happen to love one of the movies I roasted a little, it's amazing that you have such a special connection with them! this is just my take. part of the joy of cinema is how people can come away from the same work with vastly different thoughts and experiences.
