Last Time on Hunter x Hunter
New HxH chapter is out but it’s been quiet at least among the fans I know... it seems because no one remembers what happened last time. :P
Probably this would be a good time to go back to the HxH subreddit because I bet the redditors are loving this chapter dedicated to mafia flunkies fighting each other using absurd powers and are digging up their old reference charts and theories and putting them up on the wall like Pepe Silvia as we speak.
(It’s Zhang Lei, BTW. Zhang Lei will win the succession war. And Sakata is the Silent Majority nen user, working directly for Zhang Lei or possibly for Onior on his behalf. Although if 8th prince Lazurus won the succession war with the help of the Spiders that would be a pretty good plot twist. You heard it here first! )

I’m trying to stay focused on the local battlefield as a way to stay semi-calm. Kansas voters are in a unique position in red states in that they get a direct say on whether or not to protect abortion. August 2nd will have a vote on an anti-abortion amendment to the KS constitution. If the amendment fails, abortion will remain legal here. The Kansas Supreme Court ruled abortion is protected under the KS Constitution. So it’s either the amendment or nothing for the forced birth assholes. They can’t simply pass a law like other states have.
This vote isn’t just important for Kansas. It’ll have major ramifications for the region. Missouri will ban all abortions. But if choice stays legal in Kansas, then the Kansas City metro will still have clinics available. Plus, it’s not a bad drive from Oklahoma City to Wichita, or from Omaha to KC.
Polls show a majority of Kansans want abortion to remain legal. There’s a good chance we’ll win this one. Enough of a chance that I’m allowing myself to hope.
Kansans for Constitutional Freedom is the main group organizing the “Vote NO” fight in Kansas. They’re a coalition of Democrats and Republicans, Planned Parenthood, ACLU, and other groups. If you have a few bucks to spare, please consider them.

...Ahem. I haven’t checked the main tag or been on tumblr much in the last few weeks so forgive me if this is old news but... catching up on Hunter x Hunter and can’t believe that in the year of our lord 2022, we finally have canon confirmation that the Sheila conspiracy theorists were right all along!!!
Sheila confirmed member of the OG phantom troupe!! Also the book she gave little Kurapika and Pairo in the “Kurapika’s Memories” chapter, that inspired them to want to leave the tribe and attempt the Hunter exam, was probably “Dino Hunter” because it looks the same and Sheila only reads one book apparently.

The 80,000 warnings about the ao3 spambots on here are making me realize... do people on tumblr not know what an SEO scam is??????
Everyone warning each other to not click on the links... I mean yes this is just good internet advice, don’t click random spammy links, but if the point was trick you into clicking they would be doing a better job of pretending not to be bots, don’t you think?
The purpose of these comments is SEO optimization... just trying to increase their pagerank in search results on Google or Bing by making a lot of different pages link to them.
These aren’t a big deal if they hit the accounts of active writers, who have plenty of tools to get rid of them. The game is to hit the accounts of writers who aren’t checking their emails, and won’t bother to log in / mark as spam. Then the comments stay up and help with getting their links on early pages of search results or making them look more legitimate.
Anyway here’s something for the AO3 engineering team to do - figure out where these bots are coming from and block the domain. Since ao3 is mostly volunteer labor we just wait until someone’s free to work on it or the board votes to pay for it, though.

a couple process pics under the cut-
i put in an unnecessary amount of effort into getting the blueprints as map-accurate as possible- did you know that if you’re making a video game fun to play and look at. you do not need to make it architecturally functional.
i dont know how anyone’s hair in this game works and at this point im too afraid to ask.jpg
the body parts are meant to be poseable so i only had to make the torsos and heads once- this does mean that most of them can’t stand upright on their own
with the exception of tifa, who leans a bit but is otherwise stable. she now lives next to my pens.
im planning on remaking the bodies for some of them so that they can be displayed, but atm they just live in a pile by my desk lol

Last song: Uh whatever was just on the local classical radio station (WQXR)? Looks like Antonin Dvorak - Seranade in D Minor for Wind Ensemble according to their website. Lately I just keep the car radio tuned to WQXR because I find it relaxing and I’m trying to like, stay relaxed... the last song I actively chose to listen to was Bo Burnham - Credits Song from the Inside Outtakes.
Last TV show: Shoresy, the spinoff from Letterkenny about hockey! Compared to Letterkenny the plot is tighter, it is a sports show so it has an actual arc, etc. Also they’ve decided to acknowledge that all the female characters are unreasonably hot by making some of them actual actresses or influencers :P Really enjoyable.
Currently watching/listening to: Currently we are on season 2 of Servant of the People, the Ukranian sitcom where Volodymyr Zelenskyy plays the president of the Ukraine on TV. The first season was mostly silly but it gets kinda real at the start of season 2* and I found it stressful enough to take a long break. LOL. Also really into the HGTV show Good Bones lately for true no-brain no-stress TV vegetation. Also, not sure this counts as “currently” but I started Our Flag Means Death a while ago but bounced off after 5 episodes because, I guess, I was looking for something higher stakes and the jokes were kind of hit-or-miss for me? But maybe it gets better after it gets gayer, I haven’t gotten to the really gay episodes yet.
Currently reading: I’m trying, again, to read Natsumi Soseki’s I am a Cat. I’ve started this a few times, but I never get very far before I get bored. I honestly think it’s a translation issue, it’s an older translation (1979) and they make some weird choices like not translating the name of the medicine the teacher is taking for his indigestion. And overall the prose is just a bit flat for something that comes down to a lot of short passages of observational humor without like, a big driving plot or anything.
Also, over the long weekend in the land of no internet connection I started and finished both Lady Chatterly’s Lover and Lolita but not sure this is the right place to like... go into my many thoughts on these books LMAO. Neither was exactly what I was expecting.
Current obsession: I don’t really feel obsessed with anything at the moment... maybe eating better, getting enough sleep, drinking enough water and yoga. And looming on the horizon is PURCHASE AND SHIPPING for @hxhladieszine and @ff7ogzine where I’m the finance/shipping mod for both of those!!!
Previously I was obsessed with Disco Elysium but I took the day off from work yesterday and finished that sucker so my obsession is done. :p

This Is How The World Ends (FFVII, Gen)
The realtor sighs. He bends down, rifles through a drawer, and throws a set of keys onto the counter. "All yours."
Tifa frowns. Isn't he going to inspect the bags? They could've given him marbles, for all he knows. "Aren't you going to—"
"The hell do I care? World's ending!" The realtor points out the window. "Haven't you people noticed?!"
Indeed, they’ve noticed. Meteor hangs over the sky, hovering in place of the sun; its presence mutes Costa del Sol's beauty, dampening the sound of the waves and the brilliant turquoise waters. The instrument of their doom demands attention, and Tifa simply can’t take her eyes away from it.
And she knows that everybody else feels the same—that the coastal town has lost its allure in the face of the coming apocalypse. But truly, what else are they supposed to do? They have no idea what to do next, and they might as well rest up somewhere that’s cozier than the Highwind.
After Shinra No. 26 crashes, the party travels to Costa del Sol to relax and decide on their next move. Written for @ff7ogzine! You can read and download the free zine here.
