intro post

on this blog you'll find mostly historical hetalia, maybe occasionally other things that catch my interest. i mostly stick to medieval and early modern stuff because that's the period i know, but i try to have a broad range of interests.

i draw and write for this fandom! art will be posted here, fic is on my ao3

i have one primary OC that i focus on and often draw and post about friend's OCs (credit will always be given!) I'll post an OC directory later but for now here is a quick rundown of the ones that appear most often on this blog

florence (fiora/flora/fiorella depending on the spelling) is my creation, my material girl

pisa, mopey scholar™ belongs to my dear friend who isn't online very much

papal states (pietro) kind of emerged from several people but i am indebted to @grapeautumn primarily

i shamelessly use all of @absolvtely-barbaric's OCs but in terms of art there will be a lot of fem!rome on this blog. mamma mia domina

should probably say here that i mostly disregard canon whenever i want. most commonly this comes up as:

italies are not children during the renaissance but roughly the same age as the other characters in their proximity! HRE is usually stuck as a child because of geopolitical circumstances, but increasingly I've been considering adult!HRE, just because it's interesting.

germania does not exist. there are like, 48574958 different germanias

generally adjusting ages and sometimes order of events to fit a more historical narrative

Living with her brother, working minimum wage after dropping out of high school, volatile and miserable and suicidal beyond belief-- Chiara Vargas finds little solace in her life, if any.

Moving to the windy Oregon coast to manage a rowdy bed & breakfast is the last thing on her to-do list. Life happens, regardless.

chasing tails

there was a prompt on the discord I’m in... so I banged this out, unedited and definitely not what they meant when they asked for ‘cat ears’ /// nyo! spamano ; human au ; honestly just a testament to Italian cats ; circa 650 words

Marta would let Chiara get away with a lot, but this time it involves cats, so she wants to win.

It became a game.

Every time they went home from class, back to their opposite ends of the city, they’d count how many times they saw a cat. Bonus points for a whole cat, but this was Florence, so a tail, a paw, a pair of ears hiding behind something noisy or touristy would do.

So far, Chiara was winning with 8 different fluffy faces in one walk. Marta felt this was somewhat unfair, since on that day, Chiara had decided to take a longer route past the fish shop. And actually, come to think of it, the whole game was unfair: Chiara’s house was up in Le Cure, much closer, much sleepier and reached on foot, increasing her chances of seeing a cat due to the relative quietness and her ability to dedicate her full attention to the cats. Marta, on the other hand, had to cycle alongside the river to get back to her tiny flat, right next to the road, right next to the tourists, attention mostly on not getting knocked off by a Deliveroo driver. The chances of spotting some fluff were thus quite inferior.

Chiara felt that Marta’s feeling of unfairness was, in fact, unfair, and that she was clearly just a sore loser.

Marta decided that the only way to make it fair was for them both to take the same route home. Back to Chiara’s one day, back to Marta’s the other, and then the night bus back home after studying together. Chiara felt this was unnecessary. Can’t she just, like, let it go?

Three days of her WhatsApp being filled with cat emojis and GIFs, she conceded.

They started at Chiara’s first. Marta wore a pair of cat ears to class that day, to commemorate it. Four cats. Disappointing, said Marta. Chiara reminded her that they were actually there to work on their designs for the next exhibition.

Going back to Marta’s, Chiara took her through the large park next to the river, and they saw six cats.

Marta was furious. How unfair. She had no idea you were even allowed to cycle through the park. Chiara was taking advantage of a poor, displaced foreigner, and it was unacceptable.

Chiara ignored her complaints.

Their exhibition loomed, and working together they found themselves actually being quite productive. When one of them was on the cusp of losing her mind or her motivation, the other would calm her down - or at least, Marta would calm Chiara down, and Chiara would yell at Marta to snap out of it. For the first time in their lives, the day before the exhibition, they had some time.

They were meant to be at Chiara’s house that day. But when they left the university building, she had her bike with her. Marta was confused - cycling up to Le Cure was never fun.

Chiara gestured for Marta to follow her. They went south, down below the river, out of the city centre, out of the city. The buildings were fewer, the hills higher, the roads wider.

They dropped their bikes at a car park, and continued on foot. Marta had quickly learnt not to question Chiara too much, but this was something else - they were miles from home and following some steep, walled pathway that didn’t seem to want to lead anywhere.

Chiara told her to shut up. Marta wasn’t really sure what else she was expecting.

The air was still hot and they were both dripping with sweat when Chiara stopped. Marta suddenly understood.

They were at the gate to an old convent, and Chiara was unpacking a bottle of wine and a sandwich from her bag. The light was fading and peering over the wall, the entirety of Tuscany laid quiet and sleepy. And in front of them, sitting at the door to the convent?

About twenty cats, fluffy and curious.

Marta smiled, and took the bottle of wine Chiara offered her. They always did say that studying abroad, you find what you’re looking for.

Nyovember

In which I make various nyo events! I think this would be fun to try. I'll probably do some nyo ship events and some events just dedicated to nyo characters.
