CALLING ALL HIGH FANTASY WRITERS, I WOULD LIKE YOUR OPINION PLEASE! In your story, do you have elves, faeries, both, or neither?

I've been really struggling with going back and forth between having fae in my story verses having just elves, verses having fae and elves, etc. and I'm sooooo unsure what I should do! I love the idea of the fae and the 'feel' they have, which is more mystical and magical than how elves come across. I also really love the Seelie and Unseelie dichotomy and that really only applies to fae. Having Seelie and Unseelie elves doesn't really work to me...

On the other hand, I also reaaaallly love elves and they have a lot in common with fae. Elves come across as more mortal than fae do and their 'feel' is somewhat less magic and mysterious than fae but that's also a charming aspect.

I know that I can literally make fae and elves however I want them to be in my world but I'm really curious how other high fantasy writers are utilizing these fictional races and what they're doing with them.

Pertaining to your writing reblog, what's your favourite fic that you've posted? Do you get positive responses for that fic? I feel like I've asked this before but it's been a long time SO. AGAIN.

Oooh good question! I probably have answered this before, but I have written so much more since then that the answer has probably changed. I'm also taking this an excuse to ramble about my writing so thank you for that hehe

The thing is that a lot of my favourite fics are longer oneshots, and that a lot of my most popular posts are the shorts that took half the effort and time to write. It makes sense, shorts are quicker to read and pass on than a proper fic. But that's where a lot of the sentiment from those tags came from.

That being said, for a long time, my most popular fic was a Jumin fic that I had hated at the time of posting and has since grown on me.

After reading through my masterlist though, I found three (oops) fics that I would call my current favourites:

Telepathy - This is the fic that comes to mind first when I think about my favourite things I've written. I think about the comments I received for it all the time and come back to the reblogs whenever I need to be cheered up. So, especially considering that it's not a romantic fic, I think it did receive a lot of positive responses!

Caramel chocolate - This is one that I felt I was writing for myself more than anything (even though it was an event fic oops). It was one of those moments that when I got positive comments on it I was surprised that others liked it as much as I did.

The After - This is one I had in mind when I wrote those tags on that post (not to say it did badly at all, the tags I received are still some I think back to). I really loved it while writing it - and surprisingly I still love reading it.

I think over my time posting here I have learned a lot about posting things that I have written for myself and things that I write for others (hello, events). Sometimes, I will write something and post it and even if it doesn't get a lot of responses, the process of me writing that fic will have been enough.

What about you? What are some of your favourite fics you've written versus the reception they got? Also, do you find that you have fics that are your favourites for different reasons?

:D! oh all of the above though only the first is hardbaked into their nonexistent dna!! stuck in a human body that's unable to process sensory input the right way & still tethered to the invisible moon via their blood. granted, it's not burning blood jail 900% of the time, sometimes it's just an uncanny itch, random muscle aches, spasms, tingling nerves that sputter and spark; sometimes it's like nothing is wrong at all (esp prevalent with gray who will only notice some minor ache in response to linnea's touch driving it out of him <3 ofc that only makes it more painful when she withholds her cure, esp esp when she's in the mood 2 make him worse on purpose ww) this ask is getting away from me help

camp Rotting For Sport is mostly sky content as she heads towards soulless existence via blood rot/nascent pain (shoutout to dream game :)🔪) sorry babygirl say goodbye to your hard-won strength control we are unlocking the birthright you never wanted </3

nd the 'searching for something thats missing' is mostly a consequence of the condition nd manifests differently for all of them!! faye is chronically homesick for the invisible moon she just wants to go back n quit existence, less so because of the pain (it isn't helping, sure) but she's the only one who finds a weird solace in it. the proof of her origin, her destination calling out to her!! and gray is the direct opposite, violently chasing any human feeling and desire, compounded by the fact that linn indulges in life so brilliantly she has so much fun!! but it's russian roulette whether or not he can partake in the same way; longing to eat but unable to hold food down. longing to sleep but never rested. etc etc the list is longer than i'm willing to engage him as a complex character rather than the guy in the 10 of swords card 💀

long story short, being soulless sucks as much as any chronic illness sucks but they're very good at making the worst of it too <3

Invasiveness: 9/10

This one hurts. Caldar takes it like a punch to the gut, a blustery sigh spilling out of his lungs. He’s quiet for a long moment, fidgeting with the hem of his coat as he chews on the inside of his cheeks. He’s gone sallow, pale — like all the blood in his body has evaporated.

“It wasn’t a rampage,” he finally bites out, his words crashing against the back of clenched teeth. “It was grief.”

He shifts back and forth, foot to foot, pent up energy brimming along plum colored skin. Caldar doesn’t believe in unconditional love — that would require someone to love him unconditionally. He finally meets your eyes, ruby irises dull with something like resignation.

“My mother tells me that she loves me no matter what. What’s done is done.” His face goes slack, unattached. “I can only hope to make it up to her from here on out.”

What, in your opinion, is the difference between paranormal fiction and supernatural fiction and which genre do you prefer?

I've been looking for a good way to define the differences in the genres but I can't find a good example online, so I thought I'd ask my writeblr friends since y'all are into this stuff like I am! Thoughts on Silque and/or Rinea?

Silque is great, she's incredibly kind to everyone, a really good unit, she has some really funny lines and her favorite food is flour. What's not to love? Plus I'll always be convinced she's the one singing Heritors of Arcadia at the end of the game, since the english singer is her VA.

Rinea is in my opinion the character that got done the dirtiest in all of Echoes and I'll admit that a good part of why I love her is out of sheer spite

Not really a spesific one, just his character appearance (?) Does he truly have heterochromia, or the 'you have different eyes' is just a metaphor?
