Op i didnt see this till literally this morning but dont mind if i do hop on the Fall for costume prompts, day 1: introduction

My name is Squeaks and I'm a hobbyist cosplayer who makes things in the fractional fleeting moments of spare time I have while crunching out a physics PhD. I'm a huge fan of fire emblem, houseki no kuni, hades, trigun, cookie run, and adventure time. As you might be able to tell from my above work, its dang near impossible for me to recreate a character as is. I'm incredibly prone to adapting canon character designs into more costume-focused styles!

My favorite thing about cosplay is how enriching and novel it is, cosplay encompases so many different crafting styles and each character brings new, fresh experiences from color palettes, fabric textures, garment construction, and so on.

These days I dont attend cons or photoshoots (see above; being a grad student is literal hell) so most of my content is me just standing in my house BUT i try my best to get goofy with it and still present my work in fun ways!

#fallforcostume Day 1: Introduction

Hello all! Intro time for those who may be new! I’m Silhouette (or Sil), and I’m a cosplayer at home and professional costumer for theatre at work. I may have a Loki obsession (like over 10 costumes kind of obsession) and I love all things Tolkien (yes, including Rings of Power!) I get enjoyment from cosplaying all genders—cosplay is for fun!

I use social media mainly to share my work, including process photos and behind the scenes stuff—I love showing you all how these costumes come to life. Detail work is my favourite part of any build: give me painting, embroidery, and hand finishing any day. 😎

I won the Masters of Cosplay championship in 2018, and I’ve guested and judged cosplay craftsmanship at multiple cons—I just love seeing everyone’s work up close, and encouraging them to keep pushing their builds forward. (I’m not a scary judge, I promise!)

Gonna try to do Fall for Costume at least every other day this year, so come back for more!

Fall for Costume Day 2: Romantic

This weekend I went to a romantic era Gentlman Jack themed apple orchard outing and had so much fun! I didn't have enough time to build full 1830s menswear or dresses so I took inspiration from Anne Lister's costumes instead. I made the skirt from stash fabric and altered a modern vest and shirt to look closer to the time period. And I happened to already have a top hat in my stash as well 😂

I won't be posting everyday for FfC this year since I did it last year, but I'll pick out post themes that I have new content for!

Time to float! I'm starting way late on #fallforcostume by @redthreaded , so I'll make up for the missed prompts over the next few days. The theme for day 6 is Ruffles, and my Pennywise costume has plenty of those! Last year I decide to participate in #FallForCostume , an Instagram daily cosplay/costuming october challenge by @redthreaded . I posted them on my Instagram stories, but decided to post them here as well~

Day 10 - 18. Descriptions under the read more.

10. Recycled

This cosplay is completely made of stuff I had lying around. Old fabrics (from scrapped projects or stuff my mum still had), fabric scraps, stuff that was going to be thrown out. The only new things are the wig, the geta paint and the iron-on reinforcement for the bow. Still pretty proud of it~

11. Pink

Some pink shades are hard to find (in wigs anyway...) I had been looking for this exact shade for years for some other project, but couldn't find it anywhere. It almost made me not even start on this project... Until I found it @coscraft-uk !!! So many shades~ Also yes, some self promotion here xD I'm slowly setting up a Ko-Fi, since they also have a shop option there. These are some of the products I might sell once I figure stuff out.

12. Hats & Hair

It's a hair hat, so... that fits xD

Pictured: a fleece wig hat, shaped like Sora's hair from Kingdom Hearts. Costume made in 2019, but I remade this hair hat in 2020.

13. Spooky

Halloween outfits for characters are usually a perfect mix of spooky and cute/cool. But with the embroidered spider at the back, it leans more towards spooky for me 😅

14. Underpinnings

I wanted to get the exact shape of skirt as flame princess, so a very specific petticoat was needed. Still very proud of the result here 👌

15. Green

16. Tools & Techniques

My favourite tool is this old sewing machine. It's my mom's old machine and it's a little bit older than I am xD But it's still going strong!

17. Fantasy

The white mage from Final Fantasy Tactics! Fun fact about this costume: This was a costume I've wanted to make before I knew cosplay was a thing. So I was beyond happy when I finally made it in 2012!

18. Accessories

At some time, I just started making bags for nearly every character I cosplayed. These are just a few of the collection~

Autumn is without a doubt my favourite season, and I remember being desperate to get some Galadriel pics with all the gold of Lothlórien before the leaves turned. So grateful to @tatitati_art for working with me and creating these magical photos! Turns out we hit the leaves just right—apparently they were gone a few days later!

#FallforCostume Day 5: Nature

I had to choose Breath of the Wild Link for today's prompt! I still have plenty of photo shoot pictures from two years ago that I haven't posted yet but I don't want to bore everyone by posting them too frequently 😅. I love hiking, backpacking, and spending time in the outdoors, which is a big part of why I love this game so much. When winter is getting me down I play BotW to enjoy some greenery and nature, though it means I avoid the snow covered areas of the map as much as possible 😆
