Homemade Fall Comfort with These illy Pumpkin Recipes

While the fall equinox isn’t for a couple of weeks, pumpkin patches are visible, comforting ingredients are on full display in grocery isles, and pumpkin lattes are trending.

With more than 20 years working as an illy Master Barista pursing quality coffee drink, from cocktails to hot preparations, I’ve decided to fill my cup with my own pumpkin recipes using simple ingredients and tools for everyone to make in the comfort of their home.   Of course it all starts with great coffee and the illy blend provides a backbone with a complex and balanced taste profile that can work with this type of recipe.

Along these lines and the seasonal popularity,  I’ve created my very own Pumpkin Simple Syrup. It’s as easy to make as it is delicious. In fact, I’ve used the syrup for almost everything, from pancakes to cocktails to a number of illy recipes. The opportunities are endless!

All you need is:

·       1 cup pumpkin puree ·       1 cup water ·       1 cup sugar ·       1 tbsp spice mix ·       1 tsp vanilla extract

Combine and mix all ingredients together in a pan and set medium heat. Cook it for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Let it cool down for another hour and then strain it using a nut milk bag (for clear syrup, a fine strainer works as well).

The next step, making your own pumpkin spice latte. I recommend using illy’s signature Classico blend that is made of 100% Arabica beans. Its versatility and balanced taste, with delicate notes of caramel, makes the flavor profile perfect for this fall treat. Then if you’re making a savory iced version, use 1% milk and if looking for a comforting warm latte, use steamed whole milk (no foam). The rest is the same!

And if you’re really feeling the autumnal spirit, try your hand at an illy Warm Harvest Latte or even add pumpkin syrup to your illy Cold Brew – yum.

illy Iced Pumpkin Spice Latte:

Ingredients:

·       1 illy Classico espresso ·       1 oz Pumpkin Spice Syrup ·       3 oz 1% milk ·       2 oz cream ·       Pumpkin Spice Mix, to taste ·       1 tbsp ground Cinnamon ·       3/4 tbsp ground Ginger ·       1 tsp ground Nutmeg ·       1/8 tsp ground Clove ·       Ice cubes

Add ice to the glass. Mix together 1/2 oz syrup and 3 oz 1% milk and pour into the glass. Prepare the espresso, using illy Classico blend, and pour into the glass gently to create layers. In a shaker (or in a bowl) pour the cream and the other 1/2 oz of syrup, shake it (or whisk it if using a bowl) just enough to turn the liquid cream into a denser liquid (must be pourable). Then pour the cream slowly on top of the drink. Finish with a dusting of pumpkin spice.

Good Morning Autumn lovers,

      That wonderful time of the year is here. That time where we dig into the depths of our closets and drag out our boots. That time where we don't even bother dusting off the cobwebs from our autumn wardrobe because we are already preparing for Halloween. That time where we start shaking up our fall-colored liquid lipsticks, and start embracing our inner Morticia Addams.      

      Let us all take a breath of that crisp autumn morning, sip our pumpkin spice lattes, and begin the day on a bright note.      

      If you are like me, a broke university student, no matter how much we reason with ourselves, we can't afford a pumpkin spice latte a day. If you can, then all power to you, and take an extra sip for us pumpkin lovers. This morning I didn't have the strength to wake up thirty minutes earlier to drive over to a Starbucks and pick myself up a PSL. As a matter of fact, I woke up about 30 minutes late and had about 15 minutes to change, do my face routine, put on makeup, let the dog out, make coffee, eat breakfast, and be on my way to work. I successfully managed to do about three of those things in those 15 minutes, which means I ended up getting to work a little late. Listen, when you are an autumn lover like myself, then you take full advantage of the fall season and take the time to PUMPKIN SPICE up your daily life whenever you can. I may not have had enough time to make a pumpkin spice coffee, but when in doubt I put a couple dashes of pumpkin pie spice into my coffee, and then head out the door for work. No, it is not a pumpkin spice latte, but it is definitely a simple way to spice up your autumn morning in even the slightest way.      So for all my pumpkin lovers out there, take the time to spice up something in your life,because you deserve some sort of excitement this autumn season. Let me know if there are anyways you prepare your drink in the morning that gives it a little more “umphh.” Signing off now,
