The male aesthetic never peaked harder than it did in late 60s- 70s Euro B-movie/softcore/exploitation cinema. Like you always hear about Alain Delon being the Chad of that time but omg there were so many other better manz out there who are underrated!
It was such a great time for actors who were not only good looking but also charismatic, striking, unique, and most of all talented. Also they had fantastic long hair full of volume and luxuriousness.
That era had Udo Kier, Franco Nero, Fabio Testi, Luc Merenda, Joe Dallesandro, Ray Lovelock, Helmut Berger & Gabriele Tinti and more. It was a mix of macho dudes and gay icons so you had some tops and some bottoms all represented in Euro-trash cinema. They don’t make them like that anymore tbhh the pre-fluoride soy era lmao I’m joking but kind of not!
They had faces that spoke to moviegoers and were like “look, I’m a mysterious non-attention whore/ elusive actor who values my craft; but I got thrown into these bizarre low-budget, sex-and-violence filled cult flicks yet I’ll still give it my all bc there is a Shakespearean actor within me” which is absent nowadays and we just have vapid unmemorable ghosts in modern cinema…
