Xehanort/Eraqus:

they had a divorce scene where xehanort blasted eraqus in the face with no remorse which permanently left a scar and in the novels when he sees xehanort again (who is literally lying and manipulating him in the given scene) eraqus like. tenderly and lovingly smiles and touches his scar like WHAT

First of all. Eraqus is going gray but doesn’t look insanely old but as proof of age I’d like to say that he’s very close to Xehanort in age in Dark Road, the prequel in which they are teenagers, and Xehanort in the main time frame is extremely visibly old and was included in Retirement Home Rumble so Eraqus probably just aged extremely well. They’re trauma bonded through all their friends getting brutally murdered back when they were teens and the two of them were the only survivors (Dark Road was MESSED UP). I’m not sure if they entirely qualify only because they’re like the super divorced elder gays here but they’re definitely old men and definitely yaoi (noncanon but their end in KH3 was so so gay) so I’m submitting them anyway. Anyways the plot of Birth By Sleep was a weird divorce struggle between these two estranged lovers in which Xehanort manipulates Eraqus’ kids in a weird darkness plot because he went evil mode without his husband around to stop him. They have a decent amount of material being gay as their younger selves but that’s not what’s important here WHAT’S IMPORTANT HERE IS THE END OF KH3 when Xehanort’s evil plans were almost finished and then Eraqus appeared out of his basically-son Terra’s hair as a ghost. And talked it out like some kind of mid-battle relationship counseling. Then they put their arms around each other and Xehanort accepted defeat/death/whatever and they just??? faded into sparkles??? smiling at each other??? after like 11 games of buildup to this final battle??? They’re so Divorced Old Men Yaoi your honor

I hate these bitches but nobody does old man yaoi divorce like them. Inseparable "pals" until the tragedy happened, eventually sending them on two separate paths. Eraqus worried that xehanort would fall to darkness, refusing to see that he already had. Xehanort pushed all his feelings away, trying to see eraqus only as a tool for his goals. Xehanort literally stabbed eraqus in the back, killing him. Eraqus forgives him.

in birth by sleep eraqus is voiced by mark hamill and xehanort is voiced by leonard nimoy so in a way their friendship turned enemyship turned always still cared abt each other represents the love/hate relationship between star wars and star trek fans

they’ve been best friends since they were young, Eraqus just pointedly ignores how blatantly evil and DarkTM Xehanort is and then Xehanort murders Eraqus, then later they just casually move on to the afterlife together??? listen I want to shred Xehanort apart with my teeth but these old men are so incredibly gay for each other it’s insane so I HAVE to submit them

4. do you have any characters you wish interacted more?

this is a difficult one because theres so many relationships i wish we saw more of. orv is so long but its so chock full of interesting characters and dynamics i can easily list like 10 of these. gun to my head though id have to say kim dokja, lee gilyoung and shin yoosoung! every time theyre together they're a unique combination of adorable and heartbreaking. i am dragging his deadbeat dad ass back from whatever suicide hes currently busy attempting and making him have a nice family dinner with the two of them!!

i also think kim dokja and lee jihye have a fucking FASCINATING relationship though....i think out of all of the kids she's the one attempts to mimic his self sacrificial tendencies the most, (all though shin yoosoung and lee gilyoung also try and imitate him if im remembering right.......the cycle of self sacrifice is STRONG in that family) and i think her 'lmao youre so lame old man who even cares about you PLEEEEEAAASSSEE PLEASE DONT GO' dynamic with him is so funny. and also somewhat tragic. so yeah i think my final answer is kim dokja + the youngest trio from kimcom. although i do also spend a lot of time wishing we saw more of yoo jonghyuk and yoo mia.......

10. any popular thing in the fandom you cant stand?

aside from the way so many joongdok fans will erase han sooyoungs importance to the narrative and her relationship with them to facilitate their yaoi (which ive complained about so many times i dont think i need to repeat it here).....ok, this could just be a different interpretation kind of thing but i dislike when people use kim dokjas objectively very warped perception of himself, where he's like 'oh yeah im so evil for caring for these children' to do a complete 180 and be like 'oh hes the best guy ever with no moral complexity'. he did some fucked up stuff!! i dont think hes evil at all. i also think that orv loses a lot of its teeth when you refuse to consider the moral complexity of him only saving a handful of people on that train, or any of the other many instances where he sacrificed random nameless side characters he didnt care about to achieve his goals. were his goals good? yes. but theres still a complexity there that was one of main things that hooked me on orv that i dont see discussed much.

also fellow white fans stop calling kim dokja a rat its racist and its weird. ive been seeing people in the fandom ask white fans to cut that shit out literally since i joined in 2021 and its still ongoing. weird as shit! cut it out!

i am still thinking about this fucking reddit list on how good the faz frights protags are and its still cracking me up

toby for years was told by his brother that he will never be like him, had a homelife that felt like they isolated him and was a social outcast and only when conner was like "nah whatever idc ill drop it" did he realise he was in the wrong and if anything was shown to be nice to tabitha and maybe had some anger issues, and seemed to make irration desicitions (i.e just, stabbing himself instead of quitting) but i dont get whats so evil about him to be on the 22th spot

chris and sarah wanted to fit in so badly they acted like someone they arent just to fit in, sarah found eleanor and she helped her while chris befriended the popular kids and lied about his parents just to act cool, they both ignored their old friends in favor of their new lives and who they wanted to be, only ending in identity theft as they realise that is not what they wanted at all

i have no idea why the poor boy who plays Bastard #2 son of rhaenyra was targeted like that by adult fans of the show but it genuinely feels like a fever dream.

the casting announcement for alicent’s brother was announced yesterday i think and immediately you can see people shipping him with luke which is ???

like at this point they have to admit they just have a weird fascination with this 16-year-old actor and are obsessed with shipping him with conventionally attractive adult men but the fact that it’s so spread and normalized in this fandom makes me feel like i’m being gaslighted like is this not wrong? guys?? idk? what gets me is that they specifically use the child actor. they saw a kid hanging out and having no personality and turned him into the Uke Supreme i just don’t get it

i feel like it all boils down to the got fandom generally being so male obsessed because the same people who bash alicent and the actress who plays her then turn around and write fanfic about idfk aegon and daemon being their self-insert’s malewives which i think is fine but when you look at the whole picture it’s soo telling. lmao.

yeah its vile. im mostly live and let live, i cultivate what i see online and avoid what i know will make me upset + when i wanna be a hater im choosing to look at that stuff. but like the line is drawn when youre just being weird to a minor. there's this movie, death in venice, about a man becoming obsessed with this pretty male youth. and ironically, or perhaps darkly fittingly, the 15yo actor for tadzio (the youth, the actor's name is bjorn andresen) was made deeply uncomfortable with the experience due to continued sexual harassment because people could not fucking leave him alone. and it's terrible, it's horrible! there's a documentary (haven't seen it though) about his experiences called The Most Beautiful Boy in the World. also if you're into japanese pop culture, you'll see he's an influence on shoujo/yaoi/bishounen/sh*ta which should tell u everything u need to know.

essentially what I'm getting at is no matter what people say about fiction vs reality, i personally believe the line should be drawn at depictions of real life children. its the tadzio thing again plus i have no doubts if they were doing this to an underage actress it would be frowned upon by the exact same people being gross.

you're into the character/dynamic, you like yaoifying it, okay! it's not my place to judge if its okay to take pleasure in it either. live and let live but i can still think its gross. youre very clearly drawing this minor sensually/sexually and are oddly fixated on him. it's uncomfortable but sometimes you just have to take a look at yourself and recognise you're doing something kinda fucked up. its okay and sometimes necessary to recognise that you are a selfish being with selfish desires that are wrong sometimes, youre not evil but you can engage with it maturely. like idk i just dont think its 'neopuritan' or whatever the fuck to think the cp, even drawn, is gross.

The common thread is that 86% of these were memes posted to 4chan's /co/ board. When I WAS. A YOUNG MAN. I just liked whatever I saw other people posted cuz i couldn't form my own opinions yet. I think that's just a general age thing, as you get older you hone your personal tastes more, whether it's books or yuri or food, and it's less satisfying to wait around at the buffet for other people's tastes.

It's a lil interesting how much easier it was to just let other people feed me things to enjoy. Now that I'm older and pickier, I have to proactively seek very specific tastes and sometimes make dishes for myself!

Some thoughts on thots:

Slade/Robin: This is like, baby's first "dark ship". Lots of 8 yr olds saw the Apprentice episode, and pogged out cuz of the evil groomy tension. Then you get all the 8 yr olds posting their dark yaoi on deviantart LMAO.

The default back then (And still now?) is evil daddy dom Slade making poor widdle babby Robin cry. I didn't have particular tastes back then in regards to that ship cuz I was 8 and just followed what was popular LOL. In [current year], I only like the pairing if Slade gets his anus slapped and slorped by the dude he tried to groom. What can I say, I get older and the old gnarsty dudes keep getting older too...!

Also, I'm really shocked that new people are getting into this pairing because of Teen Titans Go's chibi Robin. It's time to bring chad manlet Dick to public consciousness!!!

Kefka/Terra: 👴 Back in my day, I did not see any FF6 shippy stuff on the internet at all. The doujins and fanart were mostly for the FF7 and above 3d games. So this was something I thought up for myself while playing the game, without any outside influence... incredible for a kid I must say! The dynamic is "evil clown grooms psychic girl into a MAGITEK WEAPON". It's really funny how things change, I wouldn't find interest in that dynamic now :p But I understand why a depressed edgy 10 year old (me) would find that interesting to explore.

Everyone/Vincent Valentine: I just thought Vincent was cute! I still like goth dudes who look like ladies with long hair (Who also turn into monsters). I tried to get into ships proper for Vincent, like Sephiroth/Vincent, Cloud/Vincent, Cid/Vincent.. but none of them really struck my fancy. I didn't really care for their character dynamics. I just liked Vincent LOL. So my favorite doujin I found when I was a wee lad was a monster x Vincent manga, cuz Vincent was cute :3c That segues into the other side of the fujo spectrum: A lot of my fannish thoughts when I was a kid (and even now) was based on having one favorite character and just wanting to see them look awesome and hot and cool and sexy. I think that's actually more related to gay manga culture than fujoshi culture, where gay manga can commonly just focus on one guy getting gangbanged with no emotional pairing necessary.

I could live with just seeing sexy Green Goblin and never shipping him with anyone else, ya know? And I'd be happy just drawing my sexy Senspai without any annoying Scunts around. The annoying younger halves of my pairings are often just projection opportunities, ya know? But I don't have the mental ability to do self-inserts because I have no conception of self.

Harvey Dent/Joker: Hey, when you're a kid and the new Batman movie comes out, you get sucked into it! You can see this in action with all the new Riddler fans cuz of the edward cullen batman movie! Nurse Joker was a huge meme on /co/ when this movie came out, and as the joke says.. /co/ is gay. And probably full of closet fujos. I had no emotional connection to this pairing, or even thoughts on their interactions, but I have quite a bit saved of these two on my computer. Plus I stole a lot of Aaron Eckhart's Harvey for my character Angus. Blonde and buttchin!

Riddler/Scarecrow: Again with the new Batman movie at the time, this time reviving interest in characters that weren't even in the movie! I liked Cillian Murphy's Scarecrow even though he only gets 5 minutes total of screentime in all 3 Nolan movies combined. Because I like girly men with killer cheekbones and kissy lips. I also REALLY enjoyed Jeffrey Comb's voiceover for BTAS Scarecrow. And Frank Gorshin Riddler was also a beloved meme on /co/.

I don't remember what the dynamic even was between these two. I just remember a small imageboard split off from /co/ for just Batman yaoi at the time, and this being a popular ship. Sometimes I wish it could be this easy for me to get into media and enjoy it with random strangers again LOL.

Kaiba/Yami Yugi: I loved Yugioh as a kid. This was one of the most popular ships, so as a kid you're just ecstatic that so much art and writing and fans existed for this one thing. You never starve, even if you don't have especially strong feelings for the food! Kaiba/Yami is still pretty cool to my adult brain though. I love the obsessiveness of Kaiba, and Yami is just an eternal waifu.

Malik/Yami Bakura: You can blame the abridged series for this one! Yaoi bait begets yaoi bait. This falls under the "dumbass x grumpy" archetype that I still enjoy. No especially strong feelings for this one, though I do have more modern headcanons of Malik, Rishid, and Bakura living together in a strange poly-angle. It's just cute!

Sniper/Spy: Ah, TF2chan.. a place where dreams live and die. Sniper, Spy, and Scout were part of the cursed twink trio on that chan. REAL MEN liked MANLY ships like Heavy/Medic, Demo/Soldier, or Soldier/Engie. You're a gay stupid yaoi fangirl if you liked any combination of Sniper/Spy!!! Jokes on them, I liked pretty much every pairing for TF2 back in Tha Day.

TF2 truly was a milestone in the fujo pipeline, from anime twinks to middle-aged slightly more naturalistic twinks to finally burly hyper testosterated manly men. We can blame the SSS twink trio for helping many transition (And I mean that in every way of the word 😜).

I think now I'm just sick of anything TF2. Reminds me too much of assholes and shitfucks! The transition of TF2 from edgy gamer chan culture, to tumblrites, to twitter geeks... eugh. I only care about fearless Scout/Spy allies :)

Superman/Batman: Hey, it's the NaruSasu of superhero ships! I have a lot of these two saved on my hard drive from my /co/ days. Once again, because gay art of these two was posted constantly as a meme. When the "straight dudes" on the edgy imageboard acknowledge the inherent homoeroticism of a pairing, it's validated in the young fujo's eyes. (cuz what girls like is stinky? and what men like is cool and real? lol lots to unpack) Still think this one is cute! I'm not AS invested in this as some people are as an endgame OTP that gets married and love each other ONLY, but it falls under the genki x grumpy archetype that I enjoy. It's a good relationship for Bruce to have and ruin!

Deadpool/Cable: Ah, the final channer-approved pairing. Complete with channer-approved fanart and pornography I still have on my hard drive! I might actually have the most art of them together saved out of all these ships...They had a comic together called Cable and Deadpool. Deadpool flirts with Cable and dreams about putting lotion on Cable's bare back (heh). What's not to like? Still cute, still genki x grumpy! Again, not an invested endgame ship for me right now, but certainly something I'm grateful to have enjoyed and shared with Shane :) Especially having enjoyed this before the Deadpool movie came out, and before all the weird fucked up Waid comics! obviously the popularization (or should i say tiktokification) of the whole "is he acoustic?" thing is the worst thing in the world especially as neurotypical take it and twist it to hell and back. Unsure if theyre neurotypical actually. but neurotypical enough for their jokes about it to be WEIRD. and like im not diagnosed but you know i have my suspicions. and thats whatever and im always conscious about self diagnosis. ANYWAY.

a few days ago in my psychology class something evil and terrible happened and i keep thinking about it... we;re learning about memory and how it works and theres different kinds of encoding (like putting an experience into memory storage). and theres visual encoding (the look of stuff) and semantic encoding (the meaning of stuff) and ACOUSTIC encoding (the sound of stuff). and when my psych teacher said these 3 types some of the most annoying kids in my class (their asses do not do the homework. brother this is AP. stop cheating on your 4 question reading check quizzes. stop talking to each other when were doing stuff. holy christ.) these kids were like ACOUSTIC! LOL! IS IT ACOUSTIC! TEE HEE! and i was pissed off. commenting that sort of thing on a tiktok post is one thing (as i expect terrible jokes to be there) but you shouldnt bring that into real life. especially not for such a mundane word as acoustic. do you flip your shit if i mention acoustic guitars? whats wrong with you? its the same kind of forbidden that mentioning homestuck at school is. or like danganronpa. or yaoi or other just SO online concepts. you dont bring that sort of thing to our place of LEARNING! HAVE RESPECT!

1 - who is your favorite character?

thats sooo hard bc i adore all of these kids so much. the kind of person i am now has changed many times since i first started watching, and i have felt close to many of the characters at different points in my life for different reasons, which makes this difficult to answer. i will say that the first character i ever identified with in the show was betty, because she is very easy to read (if not textually portrayed) as somebody with violent intrusive thoughts, and seeing a character like that who was still overall seen as good was very important for me as someone with ocd that sometimes makes me feel evil. i would not call her my favorite simply because i don’t have one, but she was definitely very influential in helping me work through some stuff. could say that about many characters, though!

2 - who is your least favorite character?

i feel like saying hal cooper or uncle frank is cheating but i hate both those guys. at least hal is interesting on a thematic level, though. frank has nothing, whereas with more overtly despicable characters at least they are engaging. UPDATE: forgot about grundy. shes my least fav. obviously.

7 - if you could pick, which ships would you make endgame?

i love almost any gay core four ship. like shipping isn’t the lens through which i tend to approach the show, but i think that is mainly because i think many of the relationships within the show can easily be read as more of a source of horror than catharsis, which isn’t a bad thing but is def not what i want for these characters after everything. jarchie & beronica is the classic combo, and i would love a version of riverdale that ended with that, but archie and reggie have been really wonderful especially in this past season, and i really do love jabitha. beronica is beronica forever though. also after i made my post joking about dr curdle jr. coming out a few tags referenced “curdlebee”, which im now obsessed with. old man yaoi or whatever.

Tw: mention of suicide (shisui)

Something I hate about the Naruto fandom is probably how much they erase the Uchiha suffering and how some of them always are portrayed as the funny emo who live for the sake of another character (like Hashirama/Madara, Obito/Kakashi, Sasuke/Naruto).

For example, Madara's case, where we never got to see his side of the story (only Hashirama's view because as usual the Senju can do no wrong so only showing the Uchiha clan killing a kid and ignoring the 3 other brothers of Madara was the right thing to do). Well, at this point of the story, Madara already lost 3 of his younger brothers, and we can assume only assume most members of his clan were killed by the Senju clan too. So, the only thing Madara wants at this moment of the story is to stop fighting and protect the only brother he got left with. Basically, Madara's life is bad even if he found a friend in Hashirama because after all, no one can replace his brothers, even a kid with the "same" dream. So now my question is, why do most of the fandom treats Madara as Hashirama's whore? I'm not even joking, why do people erase Madara's all suffering and life only for him to be some type of yandere schoolgirl for Hashirama? Certainly, I can't say Madara hates Hashirama, they show signs of liking each other but why make it Madara's only personality trait?

Izuna died at the hands of Tobirama, the younger brother of Hashirama. The Senju hate the Uchiha, Tobirama hate Madara and Hashirama couldn't choose Madara over his brother, so why Madara should have chosen a village that clearly hates him (despite being one of the founders and the one who named it)? Hashirama tells him to be the Hokage, to view to villagers as his brothers (as if some strangers could replace the blood relatives you lived with but whatever), only to take it back from him, turning his clan against him, leaving him alone. Hashirama didn't fight that much to actually make Madara the Hokage, he actually just go along with his younger brother's decision because he what? Ah yes, because he notices Madara was spying on them while his brother was calling him and his clan evil with no real evidence. The Uchiha have always lived far from others because everyone kept making rumors about them and guess who kept on pushing on those nasty gossip about them? Tobirama did. Tobirama didn't even try to see if those were real, he keeps agreeing with them, and Hashirama didn't even do shit about it. I'm sorry but none of the two of them actually care for the Uchiha. Hashirama was selfish, wanting to see Madara and his younger brother getting along because he didn't want to hurt one of them. When Izuna was stabbed to death, Madara had all the right to fucking lost his mind. Izuna gave willingly his eyes for the better of the clan because he loves them, he wanted peace for them. And despite that, everyone still talks about Izuna like he's some dumbass brat for not accepting Hashirama's offer (here's a really good post about why Izuna was right to decline Hashirama's offer). Right now I'm talking about Madara and Izuna but I could be talking about how everyone calls Sasuke a crybaby because he saw his whole clan being murdered by his older brother, how a pathetic village made a 13 years old child killed his own clan and parents, how some old bastard man stole and bullied a kid, making him killed himself, and there's more.

And actually, the same goes with Izuna and his death, suddenly everyone start saying it was okay because they were at war and Tobirama had all the right to be mad at Izuna because the Uchiha killed two of his brothers. But what about Madara? What about Izuna, who actually falls on the same treatment as his older brother as being painted as Tobirama's cute little wife by the fandom? Why the Uchiha clan is used as yaoi characters by the fandom? Madara and Izuna had all the rights in the world to be mad at the Senju too, they lost brothers, family, comrades at the hands of the Senju.

Madara saw it all coming. When he asked Hashirama where did he go wrong, it seriously annoyed the shit out of me because Hashirama and Tobirama carry that dumb brainwashing legacy that is the will of fire, turning kids into perfect little soldiers for the village and no one ever saw a problem with that.

Madara is way more than just Hashirama's friend, all the Uchiha are much more than what the fandom portrays them.

I didn't plan to make some post about it but when I saw shit like this, it gave me headaches.

I just explored the Yu Ziyuan tag and I kind of disagree with most of the takes there.

Is Yu Ziyuan a good person? No.

Was she justified in treating Wei Yuan like that? No.

But she was still human. I think people forget that in that time period, women were treated like shit. Just look at how Jin Guangzhou or whatever his name is and how he fucked whatever women his sees; even raping the wife of his supposed closet ally.

Even though Yu Ziyuan is a strong cultivator, her worth is decided by her marriage and her children.

This is why she brings up the "rumors" about Wei Yuan's parentage. While most people saw it as a baseless rumor, to YZY, there was a possibility that its true. Her husband spent so much time long for him and welcomes him into their home. Not only that, but he treats the boy like he is their kid. A boy who could stand to replace JC in the line of succession, thrus, jeopardize the security of her kids and herself. It doesn't help that Jian Fengman never explicitly states why he took WWX in.

Jiang Fengmian, while demonstrating that he cares for all of his children, and YZY to some degree, is very bad at communication. He is shown to just reprimand Jiang Cheng and not clearly saying what Jiang Cheng did wrong. He doesn't take the time to see JC's point of view nor explain why he is acting this way towards JC. When JC may an angry remark about how Wei Ying should have prioritized his own safety above others, Jiang Fengmian just says that a sect leader shouldn't say that. When WWX interjected with how JC was just lashing out, JFM just said that a sect leader shouldn't say things out of anger. JFM doesn't clearly say that he is reprimanding JC because a Sect Leader is to look out for everyone in the sect. He doesn't explain that a sect leader must have a cool head at all times or risk causing a political situation.

This is further shown in when YZY confronts JFM about his different treatments towards WWX and JC. He doesn't explain that he treats JC more harshly as he expects more from him. JFM just expects everyone to know his reasons and that they all understands his actions. That's why he brushes of the ideas that WEX is his bastard child. He expects YZY to know that isn't true and that he cares about JC. JFM doesn't realize that YZY doesn't know his reasoning and that he has to clearly state his reasoning. YZY, just like JC, have trouble with reading other peoples emotions and expressing their own. They may make threats or say harsh words, but it comes from them not wanting them to hurt in the first place and giving them a reason why not to do dangerous this. When in a stressful situation, they tend to react first which they may regret later.

If YZY truly hated WWX, why didn't she just offered WWX to the Wens when they came to demand WWX be punished for his "crime". Why would she send WWX with JC to safety during the Burning of Lotus Pier after saying it was his fault?

YZY and JFM are both humans who made mistakes. However, both are not wholly good nor evil. They have their faults and could have avoided this mess is they clearly communicated to each other.

Honesty I have to Agree , something tells me that due to MDZS being a Yaoi centric Fanbase and there for Shipping is a Bigg Priority. So unless they MianMian, Granny Wen or Wen Qing . If Your Female your getting Shit on especially if you wear Purple Cause I’ve a select few anti Jiang Cheng people( cause Even most JC antis aren’t that dumb) call Jiang Yanli Stupid for Trying to stop Wei Wuxian and Keeping him from dying. And Few have also call Yanli complacent in what happened to WWX because. She married Jin Zixuan.

It's really funny to see people use "fujoshi" on here when it comes to MlM content, because every gay guy I've met IRL just calls them faghags, the ones who speak English anyway. Most of them don't even know what fujoshi's are, even when they know yaoi. One who knew was just like "Oh it's those kids who read the gay japanese books." Another one just looked a bit disapproving and was kinda like "Fujoshi isn't that about women not being good and nasty in Japan for liking sex things?" Though he knew because he had a Japanese BF at some point.

I guess it's just funny to see how most people using fujoshi in a negative sense are women or afab people, while the real life gay/bi guys (I've met) uses faghag or other more relevant gay/bi male slang. Which is honestly a bit funnier, and more... accurate? And since I looked up the meaning of Fujoshi, it IS actually kinda about women being not pure enough for Japanese men for liking sex stuffs. "Damn how dare women sexualize men? We men are offended by that, so we're going to shame them for it!" Fujoshi is plain ol'misogyny, that got claimed by the women as a fuck you. The gay stuff is just a random catalyst to the shaming of women's sexuality. I guess women are just more uncomfortable using faghag or don't know about similar terms, but are fine using foreign words without knowing the full context.

Idk, just something I think about when people throw around rants about them evil fujoshi's or whatever, since it always seemed so foreign to use. Pun intended. When we already got words to describe women who play limpet to gay/bi men. Or how some people say these women probably don't care abour IRL gay men with no proof. I would actually like to know if people have proof that these women don't care about IRL MlM, because I'm always confused by how much people interpret into someone's life, when all they got is some doll profiles, with nothing about their IRL.

Dude I so agree with you about fandom culture. I think now days, people are too worried about purity culture and being so overly critical, that they forgot to just have fun and maybe explore a little bit of themselves while theyre at it. Looking back, there certainly were problems and discourses but at least we all had fun and just put our content out there without worrying that we'd be called this or that terrible term or sent death threats for god forbid exploring sth nuanced in fiction

For sure! By and large, we were all just dumb kids having a good time, coming into our own independence alongside an internet in its infancy and reveling in the anonymity that our newfound freedom provided. Like, there was some pretty awful stuff that got passed around fandom culture back then! But stuff like Pedobear was regarded as a harmless, if occasionally annoying, meme. Can you imagine if something like that were to emerge today?

But with all those problematic elements - the crass memes and the weebing and the yaoi fangirl-ing (to the point of hating female characters for "getting in the way of teh yaoiz!", sometimes to the point of killing them off! horribly!) - came a revelry and joy in fandom that I can't say I've ever really observed since. Fandom in general became such a cultural touchstone because we were all, collectively, in some way participating in it. It didn't really matter what a person's specific fandom was, because everyone was part of a fandom, and with that came an explosion of art, writing, cosplay, and just general creativity, and the bonding that happened online spilled over into physical spaces like conventions where people who otherwise would never have met could not only do so, but do so happily.

We all knew that our shows, games, whatever, they weren't perfect. That was half the reason we started creating fan works in the first place - to "fix" the "problems" (usually the aforementioned lack of teh yaoiz) that we had with the canon. But we still took joy in them, in the worlds and characters that they gave us, and so we went forth and created.

Now, since we've grown up and new generations have taken up the mantles that we passed down to them, things have gotten a lot more hostile. Creativity has become competition - if you're not good enough, then what's the point? You'll never get noticed, and it doesn't matter anyway. They know more about each other than we ever did, but are more divided than we ever were. Our camaraderie became their battlefield. They've forgotten that there were trolls under those bridges we built, and have instead decided that instead of just not being fed, they should go on righteous, chivalrous quests to slay the evil trolls for good. But the thing is, no one wants to return from a quest empty-handed. So you start finding evil everywhere you look, until that "evil" is just someone who says "I don't headcanon [character x] as [having trait y]."

In that vein, "headcanon" itself seems to have become a dirty word! It's not "my interpretation of the story," it's "the only valid interpretation of the story and if yours doesn't align perfectly with mine then obviously you're a horrible, terrible person, because mine is objectively correct!" I noticed this a lot when I first became aware of "kins" - people got so attached to a character and their headcanons about them that they stopped calling them headcanons and just claimed that they were that character but in "their reality" their headcanons were actual canon, and got incredibly defensive of people from "other realities."

And since it's so easy for everyone to find each other now, people drunk on righteous fury and hungry to - as we would've put it - "win the internet" actively hunt each other down, seemingly for sport, and can find each other's real identities and info with horrifying ease. Fandom is legit terrifying now! Some kid with a keyboard who knows way more about computers than you ever will can blast your private info for everyone to see over the barest slight, all to crow about how terrible you are and preen about how good they are by comparison for exposing you. And the bigger their target, the bigger the victory, which I suspect is partially why some people have gotten bold enough to go after the actual people who make the thing that they're claiming to be a fan of.

There are probably a lot of people who can and have say this all way more eloquently than I could ever hope to, and there's probably a whole hell of a lot I'm either glossing over or straight up missing. I'm sure I could get accused of just wearing rose-tinted nostalgia goggles. But the differences between early fandom culture and modern fandom culture are pretty distressing, even from the outside. I don't really know what to do with this distress but to remember the wise words I was once taught: don't feed the trolls, never give out personal information, don't like, don't read.

Hello Niu! I have a question. On tumblr and AO3 I see a lot of girls (probably) writing yaoi/slash fiction and do similar art. Much less amount is devoted to heterosexual relationship and least of all - to lesbians and bi. I know it’s just from fandoms I’m in but it’s statistics. Moreover, the amount of OCs involved in creations is very rare. Why? We, as women demand for more female leads and characters but we ourselves fail to create ‘em and direct our attention in mlm relationships instead

I must say that I’m not VERY deep in fanfic scenes anymore. I haven’t actively read fanfics in a decade, and I picked up just last December and now there’s only 1 fic and 1 other author I follow.

What I can think about for reasons why this is:

Glorification of gay stuff, mainly because media wont really giving as much backstory, characteristic, emphasis etc. to female characters as to male characters. Thus, it is easy to form gay ships, because you know the male characters better and are thus more emotionally invested with them. I just saw in Twitter a post stating that shonen manga is dedicated for men, but they usually fail to give any personality, backstory etc, for their female characters, which turns all shonen male relationships more or less homoerotic. We have lots of these unnoticed rules in life; like a mother is the one who looks after the kids while dad is - at best- just mom’s little helper. This makes fathers, who are dedicated to their children and family like they should be (after all, the child is also theirs), and single fathers almost holy. In reality, father is just the other parent and should not be dismissed not glorified as a parent.

Tumblr’s toxic mentality like bi-erasure and such spreading around, making young ones afraid to make mistakes and life the wrong way. I’m not unfortunately too deep into this either, but what I know, female bi-erasure seems to stem from “ALL MEN ARE BAD AND EVIL, YOU ARE EITHER ON OUR SIDE AS A LESBIAN OR YOU ARE AN ENEMY!!! YOU CAN’T LOVE MEN!!!”-toxic mentality.

WE HATE MEN, WE HATE HETERO!-mentality also causes so much horrible stuff like, I don’t get it??? What’s wrong with being hetero or bi? Absolutely nothing! There are horrible people and toxic masculinity is a thing, but for the love of God, there are wonderful men, too - and if you ask me, we need more positive masculine men representation in media. If we had more positive masculine men in media, maybe women felt more comfortable writing about hetero and be-stuff? Question mark there as I don’t know if that would be the case. Would I mind to see more positive masculine representations like Batman, Sláine and Ken Kitano? Men who respect women, life, protect weak and play with fair rules with everyone? Men who use whatever they have for the benefit of others and the community? Men who are soft and gentle without those natural human traits dimming their manliness? Absolutely not!

I don’t know why lesbian fics aren’t the thing. Perhaps it is a) the lack of female character’s backstories etc. over male characters and b) lack of readers?? IDK really.

Mary Sues have been grimaced over as long as I have been in the different fandoms. Which is, frankly, absolutely ridiculous. When people are afraid to self-insert and create OCs, they bend their favorite characters into their own representation. That leads to absolutely unnecessary fandom wars and also OOC fics, where the character X is almost unrecognizable because it is just the authors OC/self representation in disguise. There have been many fics I have not been able to read because the character or characters were so much of author’s self-insert of themselves and I couldn’t connect with them. With OCs, it would have been a different story, literally and figuratively. (is that wrong to bend characters into self-insert? No. Can people write however they want? Yes. Can people “own” the characters as “This is like me so don’t disagree with what they do or be because then you are attacking me personally!”. No. Like, find representation, yes, but remember that character X is not you or yours. Only your OCs are yours and you have power to tell others what you want with them or not.)

Because OCs are very personal and readers have no emotional connection to them, many skip OC fics because of this. It’s a shame and doesn’t really encourage anyone to write, as writers need audience and feedback. OC fics can be as entertaining as canon fics. There’s still one Soul Calibur OC fic I read in 2003 and I still remember it with fondness because it was adorable.

Then there’s the whole fandom police movement, which is just one way to control (young) women. Show your middle finger and ass for them and write whatever you want!

My few cents here.

My best advice is; make the content YOU want to see. You never know if it encourages others to do the same.

I am so upset over the Gaud "discourse" (bullying) I can't sleep, so here is me running through the "reciepts" because every time Gaud talks someone jumps on and attacks..

A little perspective, I had never heard of @biggest-gaudiest-patronuses until last month. So I'm not an avid follower, I didnt participate in Gaudapocolpyse, or watch any of the livestreams- I just hate bullying and railroading. I am a female Autistic Jew who has survived childhood sexual abuse (and I'm adding that because of some of the stuff people are accusing Gaud of).

I went through the "reciepts" you can find on biggest-gaudiest-callout the updated version as of January 27, 2019 and I made notes. So buckle up cause this is going to be a long post. Bear with me I am on a cell phone so there will probably be a plethora of grammar and spelling errors. Here goes:

-the callout starts by stating that Guad is 27 and has a mostly minor fanbase this statement is made on the assumption that tumblr is 13+ and Guad makes "teenage humor" whatever that means, I'm a legal adult and I like the jokes, and one anon stating that they and their friends are 13/14. So it is just flat out assuming and you know what they say about assuming.

-next it states that Gaudpocalypse was a protest for the NSFW ban, which isn't true. It actually started because a person commented about an actual holiday (I believe in Catholasism) that had to do with pink that fell on the day. It was in the works before tumblr announced the change, so this was flat out bad fact checking.

-Gaud also commented that the "sexy" fan art they were expecting was Patrick Star in fishnets type stuff. They used NSFW, because as a fellow autistic they were taking it literally to mean Not Safe For Work, so not something you'd want to explain to a boss or co-worker- not porn.

-They have already addressed the Tuba fanfic, which is also not porn.

-Taking "age is just a number. a number estimating your proximity to death." to be pedophile related are purposely ignoring Guad's morbid death humor that they are known for.

-If we are vilifying people for reading yaoi, add me to the list. I went through a hard SasuNaru phase and not even 5% of it was G rated. (and you know what, I was a minor when I got into it and now that I've aged out of minorhood doesnt mean that I instantly stop liking what I liked).

-Shota: I went through a phase where I read rape, pedophilia, and even incest fanfics. And you know what, it was actually encouraged by my therapist. Sometimes people look at dark things because they are trying to work through their trauma. Now I don't know Guad's past, I don't know if there was abuse or anything, but either way: reading a manga, a fanfic, or even watching anime does not make you an abuser or pedophile. Sometimes it is a person the pedophile left behind trying to take control or figure things out. (The comparison is like saying that people that read James Patterson are serial killers or that only perverts watch Law and Order SVU).

-P.S. stop calling manga child porn. It cheapens what child porn actually is and the victims of it.

-"Recommending" Big Mouth on Netflix, personally I haven't watched a single episode, but it seems about the same level as South Park. It isnt meant for kids. And it obviously got approved by Netflix, so take it up with them if you don't like it.

-Okay hot take, apparently saying you don't want MAPs interacting with you coupled with wanting to know if someone is over 18 before you find them attractive makes you a pedophile- makes sense /sarcasm

-As a Jew, the whole sumptuary laws post was witty word play not antisemitism that Gaud wasnt even the OP for. (although the laws themselves are hella antisemitic, or at least were used for that purpose.) ((still doesnt make the two equal)).

-Wearing a kimono is not racist- I think you need a dictionary and a lesson on racism.

-Autism and Asexuality; Guad's post was about figuring yourself out and said "people on the autism spectrum are significantly more likely than general populace to identify as asexual or aromantic" - this is statistically accurate, there is no ableist statement here. They did not say all Autistics are asexual or that Autistics can't have romantic or sexual relationships, Gaud simply stated a fact and it was said in a post about themselves ans trying to figure out what they are.

-Reblogging a 12 year olds address for furbies, yeah not a good or smart decision and Gaud deleted the post. Nothing else can be done about it now and this happened over a year ago and as far as I've seen Gaud learned for the mistake ans hasn't done anything like that again.

-The Discord Server. Gaud asked for the server to be taken down. People are blaming Guad because they created the server and when they left things went south. The users were breaking Discord ToS and doing horrible things. However l, blaming Guad because they created the server is like blaming Ford for drunk drivers because they made the car.

-Canabalism- this is laughable. 98% of the time Gaud is posting as an incorpreal eldritch being...just really look at the blog as a whole and ask yourself if you're making smart conclusions.

-The "crayon fiasco": Guad raised money to eat a crayon on livestream. People have taken issue with this for a variety of reasons. 1) "Gaud said the money was for rent and bought champagne" no, no they didnt, that was a joke. The money was indeed for rent, the cheap champagne was bought with a gift card. 2) "The money could have gone to medical expenses or someone in need." People are allowed to give and not give however they see fit. This arguement is about as strong as standing in front of a movie theater and shouting that the patrons should donate their money to food banks instead of watching a show and when they still go watch the movie calling the movie evil forexisting. 3) "Gaud is manipulating minors into giving them money" first of all most minors don't have that much money and I see it no more manipulative (actually I see it way less manipulative) than my sister asking my mom for money for Club Penguin. It is paying for entertainment which we do all the time and I still have yet to see the stats that it is "mostly minors".

I'm just over everyone railroading and bullying Gaud. When Guad does apologize for something people start screaming that the apology is manipulation. You have made a situation where there is no winning. Gaud ignores the callouts and you don't like. Gaud asks for information on some of the accusations and they get called names. Gaud apologizes ans gets accused of manipulating. What do you honestly want? You have built an argument on stunted facts, and just scream loud enough and long enough trying to get Guad to break. People have already started blocking Guad based on the telephone game of rumors and "reciepts" that I just went through. Enough is enough. If you don't want to follow Gaud or read their posts that is up to you, but just be quiet already. In the words of Frozen "Let It Go".
