December 3

Now that Este knows how to crawl, Caleb has been trying to get her to stand on her own. Mama don't like it. I almost got upset with him and asked if he's trying to rush her into growing up but I bit my tongue. I know he's just trying to make sure she grows up well, knowing everything she needs to know to thrive.

I'm happy she's doing so well but at the same time, it's a bittersweet happiness. My little starfish is growing. I want to keep her little but I know I can't.

I have to cheer up, today I'm meeting Aubree in Brindleton Bay at her house - we're having a day at the spa in Newcrest. Caleb is watching Este and to my utter shock, he invited Jackson over. Those two have never really spent much time together but Caleb says he might as well try to get to know Lilith's boyfriend. Especially considering things could be worse - her boyfriend could be Vladislaus Straud.

My Este isn't the only one who is growing. Edgar Allan and Emily have grown quite a bit too since the last time I saw them. I helped Aubree put them down for their naps and got in some cuddles while I was at it.

I met their Nanny as well, Paris Hale. She's pretty. Very pretty. There's something oddly familiar about her and I can't put my finger on it.

"Have a good time at your spa day, ladies." August tolds us with a smile on his face as we headed for the front door.

I felt like I should talk to Aubree about it but I didn't want to ruin our day. I decided to table the topic until later.

After we got all pampered, we decided to stop at a shop and buy ourselves nice dresses to wear to a fancy restaurant in Newcrest.

The food was good, they even had someone playing the piano beside us. I think Caleb would enjoy that place. It was nice to get to spend time with Aubree. Not only do we live in different towns but we're also married with kids, while also having careers on top of it. We don't always get to see each other but we make it a point to keep in touch. Something that matters to you - you have to make an effort to keep it going.

By the time we got back to Brindleton Bay, it was dark and cold. We went on a small walk around her neighborhood. It filled me with memories of my own time living in town.

"Aubree...there's something oddly familiar about Paris. I don't know what it is but...it's almost like she reminds me of someone." I told her, stopping our walk not far from her home.

"Any idea who?" Aubree asked me. I shook my head. "I know she's pretty."

"And younger and blonde." I interjected. Aubree for her part gave me a brief nod in recognition but kept going.

"She does so well with the twins. They love her. Not only that, she cleans the house, makes dinner. We gave her a small raise because she's become more of a maid slash nanny." I know that she and August don't have a lot of money laying around but they are both firm believers in paying a person fairly for the work they do.

I slowly nodded. Maybe I was just being suspicious because of what happened to Rahmi. Obviously it was a bit of a different scenario.

"Plus, I trust my husband. We've known him since high school. Do you think he would do cheat on me?" Aubree asked me.

For some reason, my mind briefly wondered to Apollo and Naya. How my brother is feeling lonely and like Naya has been putting her career before him and AJ. Though she has been trying to spend more time with them lately. "Not normally, no. He loves you. But sometimes when someone is feeling lonely and...look, just be careful, okay?"

"I don't think there's anything to worry about but I will still keep an eye on her." Aubree told me, she seemed a little annoyed with me but at least she's taking my advice.

MATCH-UPS FOR ROUND 1

Here's how this is going to work: we'll be making a proper structured bracket starting round 2. For round 1, you won't know who anyone will go up against next!

We tried our best with the match-ups based on what we know about each character's popularity and the type of media it is, and the idea starting round 2 is to use round 1's results to make the brackets.

HUNTER TRANSMASC HEADCANNON

Vale, vamos a ver, hablemos sobre este ángel hermoso (que no se note que lo amo mucho) y su headcannon de que es un chico trans o transmasc.

Creo que es un headcannon, no sé si Dana haya dicho nada al respecto.

Para comenzar no tengo nada en contra, amo esto y soy la primera persona que hace todo LGTB+ en cuanto ve la oportunidad. Pero siempre intento buscar la lógica 🔍, pues teniendo en cuenta de que nuestro niño estaba atrapado con este mamarracho, se me hacía extraño que pudiera ser posible.

PERO luego pensé que Belos estaba en un mundo donde todo el mundo vivía conforme a su identidad/sexualidad sin ningún problema. Belos tampoco parece que haya intentado cambiar eso (basándonos en lo que hemos visto en la serie). Lo que nos lleva a la siguiente cuestión... ¿Cómo es que Belos no intentó cambiar esta visión a una más acorde a la de la época de la que venía en el mundo humano?

Belos es un cazador de brujas, vivía en una época donde las personas LGTB+ todavía ni se planteaban que pudieran ser ellos libremente.

Pues aquí es donde entra mi teoría sobre el hermano de Belos, Caleb, siendo un chico trans.

Por lo que sabemos ambos hermanos estaban solos, se tenían el uno al otro y nada más. Así que se apoyaban mutuamente. Esto me llevó a pensar que Caleb sabía que se identificaba como un chico desde una edad muy temprana y Philip, al ser la única persona que tenía, lo apoyaba.

Aunque veo a Philip siendo el típico hombre cisheterosexual que dice: "Ni lo me entiendo, ni lo comparto, pero mientras no intentes cambiarme a mi, estamos bien". (Me hace gracia pensar en esto y que Caleb tuviera cara de "Señor, dame paciencia").

Volviendo a Hunter. En el capítulo en el que descubre la verdad sobre Belos, su propia identidad como grymwalker y sobre la existencia de los anteriores, Belos menciona lo siguiente: "Es una lástima, de todos ellos tú eras el que más se parecía a él".

Y es que no sé cómo funciona exactamente la creación de los grymwalkers en TOH, vimos muy poco de eso (bien hecho Disney/srcsm). Pero mi teoría se basa en que Philip cometió muchos errores cuando empezó a aprender a hacer grymwalkers y obviamente los primeros ni se parecían a su hermano. Algunos de ellos ni si quiera fueron hombres desde un principio, otras nunca llegaron a serlo.

Hunter es el que más se parece a Caleb no solo por su aspecto o forma de ser, sino que también porque es un chico trans o transmasc.

Pare finalizar aclaro que esto es mi propio headcannon de cómo es que esto ha pasado. Soy consciente de que seguramente Dana no quería/podía meter conflictos LGTB+ en la serie por diversas razones. En el mundo de Las Islas Hirvientes ya nos dejó claro que la homofobia o lgtbfobia no existe para ellos. Pero es probable que en el mundo humano de la serie sí exista.

Cuando Caleb conoció a Evelyn todavía era joven, así que creo que estaría experimentando varios cambios en su cuerpo con los que no estaba cómodo. Comentó esto con Evelyn y ella lo ayudó a tener un aspecto con el que se sintiera más cómodo.

December 5 - Part 2

After finishing decorating some of the family Christmas tree with his wife, Caleb was summoned to the front door by the sound of someone knocking.

"I'm sorry to stop by without calling first but I wanted to tell you in person." Lily tells her cousin. While things will probably never be the way they were when she and her cousins were all human, progress has been made in repairing their relationships.

Caleb for his part smiles briefly at his cousin and shakes his head. "I always welcome a visit from family."

Lily nods and takes a deep breath before releasing it. "I have some news. News I never thought I'd share this late in my life.." she trails off, it had all happened so fast once she moved back to Moonwood Mill. "Kristopher asked me to marry him and I said yes."

Caleb's brain quickly processes the news. He knew that Lily had been courting Kristopher since her move back to werewolf country, as Lilith calls it. Although this development could make things even sticker between the Vatore siblings and the werewolves of Moondwood Mill, he's happy for his cousin. "Congratulations! You deserve this, Lily."

Lily was a bit worried about telling Caleb, even more so about telling Lilith but she felt relief now. "Thank you."

"I hear my daughter is awake, want to see her?" Caleb asks, hearing Este cry to get out of her crib. Vampire hearing has it's benefits.

Lily would never turn down an opportunity to see the little one.

Still thinking about Demonology as a way to understand Belos’ character.

When answering “why can’t people use witchcraft/demons for good purposes if they’re super careful about it” James invokes the theological principle of “Nunquam faciendum est malum ut bonun indie eueniat (Evil must never be done so that good may result)“. Belos doesn’t follow this, and so we can see that in his fanatical centuries long quest he has violated his own morality.

Now this isn’t all the lying, tyranny, and murder he did (although I would be interested to hear if someone who is more knowledgeable in New England Puritanism could give an analysis if witch hunters would be allowed to do long cons to catch witches in extreme circumstances)- witches don’t get human rights. And certainly not witches that were never Christian and are more similar to indigenous people than Europeans. Killing his brother was acceptable as well, with the theory that og Caleb had married a Clawthorne ancestor and became amicable with the people of the Boiling Isles, he had, in Philip’s eyes, became a witch (the human kind tempted to sin that he had hunted in the human realm).

No where Belos errors is where he himself practices magic. Now there could be more nuance in applying the Elaborated Theory of Witchcraft to Glyph Magic. Belos knows he isn’t making a deal with the devil, he’s using the natural (Demonology makes a big deal about what’s natural and what isn’t) properties of the Demon Realm. He could even tell himself its inherently different from the magic that the witches of the Boiling Isles use. But there isn’t any when it comes to extending his life using Palismans. That clearly violates the natural order of the Boiling Isles. And unlike Glyph Magic, it involves internalizing “evil demonic magic”. My reading is that Belos believes that regardless of his predestined afterlife, if he were to die in the Boiling Isles, he could only go to hell, because its so far away from his god. He can’t die without his plan at an anti-climax. Except Christianity isn’t a big anti-death religion. The good Christian thing to do would be to die a martyr.

Speaking of fighting against death, creating grimwalkers would be another violation. You can’t just go creating life other than the way God has laid out for you. That’s one of the reasons why American evangelicals and Catholics objected to IVF when it was first invented. In the past, theologians spent a lot of time thinking about where souls come from, most theories agreed sex was an important part of it. Belos is making clearly sapient people, and if he thinks he’s resecurting Caleb’s soul, that’s something only God can do.

Now while maybe Philip could defend himself in theological nuance from his own people when it comes to the Palismans and the grimwalkers, he doesn’t have a defense when it comes to the Collector. My man literally makes a deal with a devil-like figure. Like dude, that’s the one thing you’re not supposed to do.
