girl if this is a weak attempt at justifying the mcu’s antisemitism……………… I know the movie verse the best so let’s go over a few things

-our first introduction to erik lehnsherr is at the gates of Auschwitz during the holocaust. he is being dragged away from his mother, and his sorrow/anger triggers his mutation — the ability to manipulate metal

-a nazi scientist (sebastian shaw) points a gun at erik’s mother. says if erik can move a gold coin, his mother will walk free. erik can’t, and shaw murders his mother in front of him. experiments on him. turns him into “frankensteins monster”

-erik spends decades hunting nazis and shaw. we see him interrogate germans who escaped to argentina and call themselves pig farmers laughing. erik shows them the tattooed number on his arm and kills them. he tears a metal filling out of a swiss bankers mouth, who while “neutral” during the war, still kept stolen and bloody gold in his vaults.

the thing is, the x men movies didn’t shy away from antisemitism and erik’s jewishness the way the mcu continues to do (even the red skull was separated from nazism in the films). erik is a true sympathetic villain, bordering anti hero depending on the film/comic.

the audacity to try and say erik, a holocaust survivor who lived thru one genocide and whose mission is to prevent another (of mutants), is in the same category of whatever the fuck marvel is doing is wild tbh

(First of all, English is not my first language so sorry if there are some mistakes long essays are hard to write djhdsfs)

HELLO GOOD MORNING CHERIK FANDOM SO the other day I made this post about a very hurtful and surprisingly overlooked parallel: Cherik not being able to shoot each other. Aaaand that second scene from DOFP where Erik is unable to shoot Charles has been keeping me awake at night for AGES and I really feel like we don't talk enough about it. So, here I am. Still being pissed off because of some fictional characters not kissing in some movies made years ago lol

So, here's an extended extract from that scene:

So. Erik's plan here is to kill Raven, bc you can't use Raven to create evil war machines if there's no Raven am I right lol. Charles, before Erik can shoot his sister, puts himself in between the gun and her (btw shoutout to Charles for being brave enough to put himself in front of a gun again after what happened in Cuba and the ptsd he 100% has bc of it I love you muac).

Let's make things clear here: There was nothing stopping Erik from killing Charles in this scene. He could've done it. Erik's mission at that very moment was to kill Raven, and Charles was getting between his mission and him. And we all know how things end when something gets in Erik's way when he's completing his mission. Erik does not care about collateral damage. For fucks sake, in this very same scene, he was willing to kill Raven off just bc it was easier and faster. He doesn't give a fuck about who has to die in favor of the greater good.

And I mean, technically, Erik should be more willing to kill Charles than Raven. Raven was his right hand for a while before he went to prison and she was his canonical lover. Charles, at this point in time, was his enemy. Both of them are very powerful mutants, with the difference that Raven is usually by Erik's side, and Charles is one of the only people in the world able to stop Erik thanks to his mutation. If Erik was willing to kill Raven, he should be willing to kill Charles too, if not as much, then more.

So... Why not? Why not shoot him, and once Charles was down, kill Raven too? Why is he able to attempt to kill Raven (his former ally and EX LOVER) and not Charles?

ALSO, now that we're here: Let's talk a bit about Dark Phoenix, too.

So, let's face it, DP is a bad movie. Overall, it's boring and that's pretty sad counting the masterpieces FC and DOFP are. But, hey, I can live with a boring movie. It's fine. What I CANNOT live with are things that are out of character. Especially when my fave characters are out of character. Ok maybe I'm being a bit too over dramatic here but I'M NOT

So: Let's talk about how Erik wants to rip the world apart over Raven's death in Dark Phoenix bc he's just so destroyed bc the love of his life died or whatever. Dude. I'm sorry but I don't buy it.

Correct me if I'm wrong here bc there's been a while since I don't rewatch Apocalypse or Dark Phoenix (again, meh movies), but from what I understand Erik didn't spend more time with Raven, apart from that bit in Apocalypse? Because after DOFP, Erik distanced himself from anything related to mutant wars to create a family, and then after Apocalypse Erik created Genosha and Raven stayed at the mansion, isn't it?

Assuming that this is correct, they're trying to tell me that between the scene where Erik was willing to kill Raven over the greater good in DOFP and the scene where he was willing to rip the world apart bc of her dying in DP, Raven and Erik only saw each other once. Riiiiight.

And, look. I'm not saying that Erik wouldn't feel sad about Raven dying. Of course he would. He's not made of steel (bc most steel is not magnetic. Get it? Magnetism, Erik... Imma shut up lol). Obviously he would feel bad. And I'm not saying that love can't last that long if they haven't seen each other in a long time, bc c'mon. I'm a cherik shipper. Of course I believe it can.

What I'm saying is that I can't believe that Erik is so devastated that gets blinded enough by his broken heart to hunt down a teenager that's being haunted by something she can't control. I can't believe it bc 20 years ago, it was him who was trying to kill Raven (and almost succeeding), a time that was way closer to their partnership and relationship than when DP takes place. If anything, he should be more affected in DOFP. Instead, he goes from almost killing her himself to wanting to rip everything apart bc of her death.

It. Doesn't. Make. Sense. So, Dark Phoenix's Raven x Erik plotline can suck my dick lol. If it doesn't make sense with the character's previous actions, it's not canon. That's how this works lol I don't make the rules

Summing up: Erik willing to kill Raven but not being able to shoot Charles in DOFP is EXTREMELY fruity and romantic, and Dark Phoenix's romantic plot between Raven and Erik makes 0 sense and is forced as shit

Which one is your favorite, Trigun or Trigun Stampede?

Oh.

Good question.

I like the first half of Trigun. Right until after Eriks arc? I love the characterizations, I love the humour, I love how funky and groovy the thing is. But. Uh. Right after Eriks, the second half... the animation goes... Places. You can pinpoint into which shots the budget for whole episode went and during the last four episodes I was yelling for the martyrdom to just. Stop. Especially after WW's infamous... Let's call it "Exit".

Stampede on the other hand-- I love how well it works all together, I love the new designs (except for WW, tug your shirt, man, seriously), I love the colour schemes, music, how much attention is paid to the details, all the homages, how well it works with the manga. But. (There's always a but with me lol) It's too fast for me. There's little to no time for the character moments. My favourite moment in the show is when WW is teasing Meryl around the campfire and Vash shows up, sits down, and finally. EATS. And I would love to see more of such moments.

My fave episodes are deffo 5-7. Child of Blessing still gives me shivers. The ending. With the windmills. HECK YEAH. And... Steamer... well. WELL.

I loved the Stampede's climax? I was nearly hysterical waiting for the last episode. But we all yelled here (my best friend from Canada was here with us in person when we watched it for the first time, and I wll never forget us being full ass football fans screaming at the tv, when Vash showed up with the new/og hair).

I'm not too fond of the MMO design of his wings, I'm too much of a conservative and gimme those feathers. But I understand the struggle of animating. Actual. Wings.

So. Yeah. It's hard to say.

Trigun OG and Trimax is what I see when somebody says Trigun.

Stampede is what I see when somebody asks me about a real good tv show.

And boy, what I probably enjoy the most is Badlands Rumble (tv-wise, Trimax is my fave otherwise). It combines all of the things I like about both shows (and manga). Good visuals, OG like humour, Onosaka Masaya Vash, an okay story (for my taste), HECK YEAH MOST TRIMAX WOOWOO and. Well. Yeah. WW's whole. Thing. With the glasses. I'm easy to please.

However, believe me you, when I say I spend a lot of time each week speculating what's gonna happen in season 2 of Tristamp. I can't wait.

Me: Give me a minute as I pull up my ‘Trauma Doesn’t Excuse Sh*t Behavior’ PowerPoint.

Say it with me, everyone: an explanation is not an excuse 😊

You know, the other day I was watching one of Ryan George's Pitch Meetings and when Producer Guy asked Writer Guy how the audience would root for the villain of the franchise and the response was "he's handsome" which basically explains most people's reactions to fictional men.

Prepare for incoming rant that has little to do with the ask

This probably might come as a shock because one of the main appeal of twst would be the whole villainous aspect/Disney Villain fanbase but I don't really like villains that much, at least, not romantically. Like don't get me wrong, I think that they're incredible characters and it would be so fun to sit down with one and have a conversation with one. Villain songs are so fun (I was literally singing ‘This Day Aria’ to myself the other day I haven’t heard that song in like a decade) and you can tell that that characters like Scar or Hades or Shere Khan or Jafar or Maleficent are having so much fun being deliciously evil and even the more serious, complex ones like Loki or Frollo are fun to pick apart so yeah I understand the hype. I just always rooted for the heroes and I guess heroic characters have always been more my type.

My mother absolutely loves Erik Destler and is forever salty that Christine chose Raoul (despite my many many attempts at arguing why Raoulstine is the superior couple - smol primary school me could not understand why my mum liked the chandelier dropper and was deeply concerned), my best friend has been in love with Heathcliffe since we were eleven, and my little sister has literally told me that her type of fictional men are the toxic red flags (not exactly word for word but she did explain why she likes bad boys over good boys when I was complaining about how my type (wholesome soft boys) always get sidelined for the arrogant, snarky bad boys - we're also very diametrically opposed on our views of friends to lovers (my s++ tier all time favourite and her loathing) vs enemies to lovers (I can't really stand it - Pride and Prejudice is the only exception - and that's literally all she consumes) so that might also be a reason).

Like, I understand the appeal of a Byronic hero (Mr Darcy has far too much power) - a closed off, broody man that hates everything but you? And will burn down the world to keep you warm? I can respect that there are people who dig that. But their not really for me.

The mild bout of insanity thirteen year old me had where I spent two months attracted to Edward Rochester is an outlier and should not have been counted (though that was during my wattpad phase so...)

But I can admit that I have yet to shake off my feelings for Dr Henry Jekyll, Victor Frankenstein and Dorian Gray (though to be fair, Mr Gabriel John Utterson the lawyer and cinnamon roll artist boy Basil Hallward do own my heart). And yes, Jeremy Jordan did make me question my morality as he did make my feelings for Light Yagami be too positive to be sane for a brief moment (Touta Matsuda is still my man, don't worry). But apart from them, literally all of my faves are what you'd call your traditional, morally upright heroes.

Basically what I'm saying is that my perception might be skewed because I've never had the whole 'villains are cooler' mindset when it came to stories. Yes, I love the villains as characters but I always liked their heroic foils more (goodness is just so attractive to me). You get lots of amazing heroic protagonists that have horribly tragic backstories and they're the ones I always fall for because the idea of being a kind sweetheart despite the world being anything but is just *chef's kiss* that's a kind of strength that's so swoon-worthy.

I guess that's why it's harder for me to look past the characters' actions in twst is because, well, they chose to do everything they did. They made a conscious choice to be terrible, despite understanding the consequences. Riddle may have been brainwashed into becoming a tyrant by his mother but he still admitted that he knew he was being horrible - he understands the concept of morality, of good and bad, and he willingly and deliberately did everything he did.

I’m obviously the most invested in Erik/Christine because that’s what I write, so most things outside of that I’m not super invested in. I have read a couple of Erik/Meg pieces but I wasn’t very much a fan, and while I definitely support and see the logic behind the Erik/Christine/Raoul OT3, I don’t see myself going out of the way to seek out fic revolving around that. Maybe someday I’ll change my mind though!

Okay so I’m taking a lung/respiratory system course right now, and at one point we were talking about the anatomy of the nose and nasal passages and all throughout I could not get our favorite noseless boi out of my head!! Since the external part of the nose (the part Leroux!Erik doesn’t have) acts as a barrier to inhaled particles/microbes, Erik would be a LOT more susceptible to respiratory infections. So it’s probably a good thing he keeps it covered all the time especially around other people, not just for aesthetic purposes but because it prevents lots of nasty things from getting in there and making him sick. But I can’t even imagine how gross and uncomfortable a head cold would be for this man 😭

Since I first got into POTO, I have had trouble picking a specific character as my fave: it’s always been a struggle between Erik, Christine, Raoul, and Daroga, because they’re all so great for different reasons!! But I do think I’ve narrowed it down to just one fave: Christine. She’s just PERFECT to me, she’s so kind and genuine and fearless and I relate to her struggles so much. While the others are fantastic characters in their own right, Christine will always be my hero. ❤️

Listing my fave Eriks (Phantomverse Of Madness).

This is a post i was suppose to make a long time ago, but i only got the time to write it now. I will probably make a part 2 with the "Worse/Less Favorite Eriks".

Remember everyone, this is ✨MY OPINION✨. No adaptation is free from flaws, these 6 Eriks are my favorite but they won't escape from my critics. And if you disagree, feel free to comment about.

6. MazM!Erik (2018)

We start with a polemic one. Mazm!Erik has an unique beauty and amazing hairstyle, his PTSD, the pain, the crying little boy inside of the man, the despair to be loved are still ON POINT. But let's not forget they turned him into a generic anime sociopath who does bad things because yes, and abuses Christine, and keeps Melek aprisioned, and other nonsense things of this mediocre script. However, MazM!Erik is still redeamable at some point and he has good stuffs.

5. Chaney's Erik (1925)

Our first adaptation, the 1925s silent movie! In my opinion, NO ONE played Erik better than Lon Chaney. No one. Like, this man, he's just fantastic. Chaney's hands, movements, the PHANTASTIC make-up, the expressions of pain, madness, anger and tenderness, OH MY GOD THIS IS HEAVEN!!!

ok but let's not forget the ending sucks and the movie tried at best to villainize Erik, this is unforgivable.

4. Merik (1986-2004)

Probably the most known version among us. Andrew Loyd Webber delivered us an amazing, outbreathing and beautiful musical that saved Broadway's story in the 1980s and brought Phantom back to popular tastes since then. Musical Erik has its questions, many people fan of the novel think Webber tried somehow to make him more manipulative and less redeeming. After all, even though people he killed weren't innocent at all, Erik isn't a man who runs out judging people and killing the ones he consider to be unworthy. He killed in EXTREMELY ocasional times in the novel. By the way, the way he constantely manipulates Christine and try to keep control as "the Angel" is just... no.

The original Erik wouldn't do this. He hates lying to Christine, he avoids at his best hurting her. Merik has more childish and toxic behaviour, even though he still ends up redeemed and changed out of his own will and kindness. We cannot deny Merik is one of a kind, one of the most iconic versions of the story. There are many actors who played Merik: Gerard Butler, Ramin Karimloo, Hugh Panaro, Norm Lewis, Ben Lewis, Michael Crawford, i could make a whole blog about my favorites and less favorites Meriks. And i'll probably do it.

3. Cherik (1990)

Look what we have here ❤️

"MY GOD, THIS PLACE REALLY IS HAUNTED" -- this and other funny lines are a gift of Charles Dance's version of Erik. The minisseries isn't very loyal to the novel, however, it's not a bad adaptation at all. This Erik is funny, shy, awkard and more healthy than most of the other versions. I disaprove anything about his version? Yep. First, he wears too colored clothes and is less "dark and goth" like other Eriks. Second, his mother actually loved Erik in this version... I think this was an unnecessary changing. Because the horrible abuse committed by Erik's mother is something EXTREMELY important that can't be changed. Mommy issue is an essence of this character. Should I talk about the "Christine looking like his mom" problem?

Well...

2. Kerik (1990)

Our favorite Susan Kay monologue! Yes, here it is. Kerik (or Serik as some people say) is funny, jerky and tragic, it's almost the same as Leroux's version, as it is supposed to be because "Phantom" isn't exactly an adaptation, but an explanation/expansion of what we've seen originally. Phantom is so good that we phans consider it as canon!

I can't help but say his relationship with Christine in this monologue is weird and a bit disappointing, though. Susan Kay actually started this "Christine looked like Erik's mom" shit, and it's not only weird, it literally confirms Erik's love for Christine was not real, that he only wanted to have a normal relantionship with his mother and Christine was a link to escape his pain. Ok, it makes sense Erik having mommy issues, but i disagree with Kay's vision about his love.

1. Lerik, The Original (1910).

Claps to our king, sis and bros. Gaston Leroux wrote this character with passion. This is my favorite deformity and vision about the character, the lines and the emotions are all just perfect for me. No one ever surprassed the original novel. Erik is a symbol, and a figure to many people. A broken, tortured, emotionally unstable man, who wants to fix everything his way, who doesn't have anyone to trust, who searches for love, pity and compassion, who searches for inclusion and tenderness from the society... but had everything despised and wasted. Erik, originally, is not a villain or a romantic hero. He is an anti-hero. He's the representation of frustrated people and abuse survivors who are able to LOVE, even after everything they had to pass throught. People who are able to recognize and fix their mistakes, people who won't sacrifice their beloved ones happiness for their own problems and fears. Erik is all of us.

I have made a randomly-generated bracket with as many of the Redacted characters as I could remember and I know I still forgot some, and I left some off on purpose, and I will be holding polls every day to see who will advance, and who will not

This is Voiced Characters Only. And Prime Universe Only. If you’re interested in an Imperium Sexyman Tournament or a Sexiest Listener Character Tournament, let me know. Either of those would probably be after the boys because I don’t think I’ll have time to keep track of two or (heaven forbid) three at a time.

The winner will be the Ultimate Redacted Sexyman According To Tumblr. (The Tumblr part is very important. This ain’t no Redactness or Redactness After Dark in a Discord server with Erik watching. This is Tumblr where we’re all allowed to be 137% more unhinged, among other things, with no Creator Supervision™)

Now, remember, this is randomly generated. I didn’t choose the initial line-up of which character against which. So if your two faves are against each other for the initial round, sorry. Not my fault.

I will be tagging the polls with “Redacted Sexyman” so you can either blacklist it or keep track of/follow the competition

Other important note: this is just for fun. No one is allowed to start drama or discourse over this, you hear? We’re all just fans having a good time and I don’t want anyone to feel like they can’t have a good time participating in a slew of silly little polls that are ultimately meaningless and an entertaining way to pass a little time.

Rules:

You must vote for the sexiest character, in your opinion. This is a Sexyman contest, not a favorites contest. If your fave is less sexy than the boy they’re competing against, you gotta vote for the sexier one in your opinion. Yes I’m aware that “favorite” and “sexiest” are often the same. But if they’re not, you have to choose whichever person you find the sexiest

Be nice to everyone else voting. No harassing others over their opinions

Be honest. No voter fraud or anything. Don’t go to your friends outside the fandom and be like “hey I need you to vote for this person even though you have no context”. This is for Redacted Fans Only.

I'm a decently known-ish artist in this space, but I'm afraid to ask on my Tumblr because I might get dragged and/or blocked by my faves here lol, but does Erik count as a sex worker? I am genuinely asking without malice as that is a legitimate career. I thought 'no? maybe?' but I thought about how the vast majority of patreon members are on the tier for porn even if he only makes one porn audio a month. There's no way to know unless he were to do this, but I feel like a huge chunk would leave if he didn't make porn for his characters? Is it that he counts as "part time" in that field as I'm sure maybe 1/3 on there would stay if there was no porn (and he has a 9 to 5 and adsense for SFW YouTube videos)? Is it "no" because it's sooo little porn compared to the rest of the sfw narrative content? Is it making any type or amount of content or work with the sole purpose of getting people off makes this an automatic 'yes he is a sex worker?' Not that it matters too much, but I'm just wondering what people think!

Hello, I’m so sorry I missed your ask yesterday. 💕

So I’ve read quite a few books about/ from the men of Easy Company and I can easily say that my favourite is ‘Parachute Infantry’ by David Webster. I’m actually on my third reread of his book currently.

I think that Webster book is one of the most accurate books relating to the men of Easy Company and their time during the war. I think that Webster really has a way with words and his book is so immersive and you really feel like you’re there with him. I also like the fact that it’s not directly linked to the series as some of the other books are since the ‘Band of Brothers’ Stephen Ambrose book and so I feel that it’s more accurate. So I highly recommend checking Webster book out, it’s a very good read.

I also really like Dick Winters book ‘Beyond Band of Bothers’ which is Dick Winters memoir based on his wartime diary.

I’ve also read the new book out about Ronald Spiers this year called ‘Fierce Valour’. It’s written by two historians Jared Frederick and Erik Dorr who unveil the fuller story of Spiers and it’s gives more on an insight into Spiers life. It’s a very interesting read and gives you a better understand of a complicated man.

I’ve also read ‘Brothers in Battle, Best of Friends’ by Babe Heffron and Bill Guarnere which I enjoyed reading and I like the fact that they stayed friends all those years, and wrote a book together.

I’ve also got Donald Malarkey’s book ‘Easy Company Soldier’ but I’ve not had a chance to read it yet so it’s on my to do list.

Overall I think that all the books are worth a read (including ‘Band of Brothers’ by Stephen Ambrose of course) I think that each book gives different insights and experiences that each man had during his time in Easy Company.

As for generally book recommendations that’s so tough because I like such varied genres. I’ve recently read Millie Bobby Browns ‘Nineteen Steps’ and I basically binge read it over a weekend.

I also really enjoyed reading Bernard Cornwells ‘Saxon Stories’ or ‘The Last Kingdom’ as it’s also known. I really love this series and it’s the kind of series with really loveable characters that I could just reread again and again.

One of my all time favourite books is ‘The Great Gatsby’ by F. Scott. Fitzgerald. It’s such a colour and emotional book that lays out unattainable dreams of love and wealth. The film is also very good but nothing in comparison to the book. I did one of my Literature essays on this book and I can always find so much to say about it. (sorry my inner Webster is coming out lol)

I also enjoy some of the classics by the likes of Charles Dickens, Jane Austin, Thomas Hardy and many others.

i have a few honestly i went on a deep dive the other day on her tag and tried to find stuff i liked. so i have a few!

the red lady - shromyystar: wanda in judgement day! i recently read this one. i really really liked it. the criteria of judgement and wanda's answer to it.. mmmwah!!

season of the witch - wanderingjane: post uncanny avengers! this fic is so good. it reads like a comic issue of sorts and it's got such a good grasp on not just wanda, but her mental health, as well as the actual marvel universe and i think it's my fave wanda fic im ngl. just so fun!

all our colors (blend together) - fantailamon: wandajean! wandajean! wandajean! character examination of wanda through jean is always great. THE writing style in this.. holy shit when i tell u i am obsessed..the use of the phoenix force here is great and also every single cameo character here ALSO slays. i lvoe it.

scatter what remains - indevan: my god. this is after the twins leave magneto but before they join the avengers, just an amazing exploration of grief + character + how even when they fight wanda and pietro are still everything the other had. just SOO good!!

from fire, flowers grow - welcome_to_latveria: au of sorts where charles and erik approach wanda about building krakoa first during hoxpox. there's a bit where it compares wanda and pietro's life to it mirroring what it used to be like for magda and genuinely i couldnt stop thinking about it. AAAAAAAA!!!!!

and that's all i got chief this was like all i found that i personally liked + she was the actual main character in it (the amount of fics where shes tagged but she makes a 1 second appearance.... dying....) but i need to finish going through her tag lol. hope you enjoy!

⚠️Spoilers for all games ahead⚠️

I love and appreciate all of the routes. I love MOST of the characters.

Sam and Matthew are close to tied route wise. I love Sam's because his freaking character development between the two games is INCREDIBLE and the good and bad ending always manages to make me tear up. Both good endings are bittersweet, which is heartbreaking and poetic at the same time. One of them has to give up something important for the other and is more than willing to do so.

Matthew's route for me is also very engaging, and we see him become more than "The boy who wants to make everyone happy" as the game progresses to the second game. We really see the toll of being infantilized your whole life can take on you. Plus, evil Matthew is hot, which doesn't hurt. He literally kills his mother for MC, despite loving and caring for her deeply.

James and I have a love hate relationship. Sometimes his superiority complex pisses me off and sometimes I think it's hot. Idk. BUT his bad ending in the last game is a tearjerker, (who am I kidding, they all are.) and I love the way Angels were implemented. Character wise, he didn't have as much development as others, but his story makes up for it.

Erik's route is very interesting to me. Character wise, out of the boys, he is my least favorite. Don't get me wrong, I love him but if I had to choose a least favorite it would be him. But route wise, I really appreciate the way Michaela implemented the effects of his mother's teachings. He seemed to develop a lot, slowly becoming his true self. I also really liked Oribels plot. As sad as it is, I think it was cool that Diana's sister was included. Because of Oribel, some of Erik's deep rooted self-esteem issues were made more obvious, which wasn't as obvious in the first game. Erik lives to please his partner and can't do that if his partner is disgusted by him. (He literally ask MC "Are you disgusted by me?" )Oribel is a literal baby who associates Erik with the Demon lord and doesn't understand why MC doesn't do the same and wants to change MCs mind. (The vision of the demon lord walking into the room when it was Erik) Oribel doesn't understand the fact that Erik isn't like his father and wants MC to feel the same. I also liked Oribel possessing the demon lord. She was an angry child who felt betrayed by her sister who promised to protect her and doesn't understand that she was trying. Because she is a child. The ending is really sweet too.

Damien is sweet, has an incredible amount of character development (Unpopular possibly, but less than Sam in my opinion.) and his story is so devastating. For me though, it was harder to navigate his route in the second game and not in the same sense as the others. My main issue though is the fake sex plot. If you've ever played the complete story version of his route, which was the newest version of the games, there is no lie on MC's part. He gets the explicit choice to sleep with Diana, says yes, comes back, is "human" and everything is good. There is no trying to hide the fact he knows about the deal, because he was involved. In the original version, he waits God knows how long to tell MC that, not only does he know, but she has been beating herself up over nothing. Now, in the complete story version, he waits God knows how long, waits for her to admit that she wishes there was another way to make him human, then tells her he didn't have sex with Diana. It just really makes me uncomfy that he waited for MC to feel uneasy to say, "Oh yeah, that didn't actually happen." You know? That conversation could've been had the same day. I love that he was given the choice but hate that he lies.

Dianas route in the first game just doesn't hit the same as the other demons. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Diana and she was absolutely part of my queer awakening. But her route just isn't my favorite. I find it weird that Diana is saying "I will take your memories, even if you must die for me to do so." and MC is like "Nu uh, I want you." I found it weird that she was the one trying to take them in the first place, wouldn't the angels be doing that? It just felt like more of a "Fuck you" to the boys than anything. There is also some confusion with her episode for me. Like, when exactly did that happen? Anyways, I definitely preferred her route in the second game more. That being said, I hate the possibility of being the cause of Siana not happening. I love the poly ending, and I was pleasantly surprised. I just hate to make Searo jealous. Being with Diana when she found her family is heartbreaking. (For me it also shows that MC isn't at fault for her family dying in the other routes but that is a rant for another day) Diana is such a badass in this, but I don't know it's just too difficult to navigate for me. I like it, I just didn't enjoy it as much as the others. Its also weird that she knew this lady for days and just left her whole life to live in the demon world. She knew Sam for years, she knew Diana for what, a week?

Naomi/Suzu's routes are just boring for me. I like the characters to an extent, but meh. It also breaks my heart that you can't let the boys stay if you don't romance one, like I so wish there was a way to let them stay without romancing them. (Like the episodes let you choose all of them, and it isn't even implied that there is any polyamorous relationship. Just Mika's found family. It makes sense that there isn't a poly ending for them, Michaela said none of them would be into the option, but I just wish she could still be their friends. It hurtttts to watch them leave.

I'm sorry but Andrew gives serial killer vibes. It doesn't help that I read The Fire in the Monster by AvabelleJune which is a fanfic, and it has ruined Andrew even more for me. I never liked him, but now I can't think of him without thinking of this story. It's on AO3 and Wattpad if you want to check it out. It's super good and I definitely recommend it. Anyway, he seems at first to be a more awkward version of MC, in the sense they have very similar backgrounds, both are set to be CEO, and just wants to be free. It is also sad that Andrew ended up CEO regardless. And his whole "What about Ace, or Axel" conversation gives me secondhand embarrassment. Him and MC also have a barely legal age gap. Hear me out, I know that the incubi and Diana do as well, but they are from another plain of existence. And while I wish the game had taken place with Mika in college, the age gap is the least of my concern for them. That would be like complaining about Edward and Bella's age gap. BUT MY POINT is that, while MC is an adult, Andrew is in a very different stage of life than her. He is in college and has a job. Mika is in high school and would still live with her parents if her father wasn't such a dick/her grandfather hadn't passed. The age gap isn't the issue, it's the fact that they are in very different stages of life. I have no issue with LEGAL age gaps until they are between a barely legal high school student and a grown man.

I hope this doesn't ruffle any feathers❤️ I got a bit carried away on my rants lol

Hi Gerec! What are your favorite fics that have the best written characterizations for Erik or Charles? Sub Rosa is one of mine for Charles but I would love to hear yours! Thanks!

I was reminded again of this amazing unfinished fic recently so it's on the top of my mind but and these, from atoms by kay_cricketed has such incredible characterization it's just *chef's kiss*. I've read the author's fics in multiple fandoms and they always get the characters so bloody well I'm in awe.

In general, I am amazed at how well @kianspo gets Charles and Erik, and especially how well she handles their canon personalities and issues so beautifully in the context of a modern au. Curve Fitting by kianspo does it best in my humble opinion; it's my personal favorite of all her fics (which I adore).

I think part of the reason I love aus so much is that so many canon stories (that aren't fix-its) are so monumentally sad, and Erik is such a tragic figure (I just want him to be happy with Charles!) @certainlyanotp writes angst and crack equally well (ditto for young and old Cherik) but it's always when she writes from Erik's POV that it totally and absolutely breaks my heart to pieces. By Any Means Necessary (Trial and Error Remix) by Unforgotten is gorgeous, and I always end up crying each and every time I read Strange Lands (No Good Man Remix).

Self-acceptance as an act of survival by winter_hiems is one of my favorites for its depiction of Charles, and the bodyswap plot line is a springboard for such incredible characterization esp. around how he views himself and his body post Cuba. Highly recommend.

Alex:

I just personally feel he was so unnecessary to the plot? Like we have Scott, why did we need a moodier criminal version of Scott. Plus he’s arguably not even that cute? Those blue eyes do not stare into my soul every time I look at his face. Mediocre Disney princess eyes at best.

Also I didn’t see any connections between him and the remainder of the characters? Nothing with Hank or Charles, or even Erik. It was like 👬👫🧍‍♂️ and then Alex just 🧍‍♂️. Very split.

(I am so sorry that was criminal of me 😭)

Kit:

Kit’s just kinda boring you know? No discernible personality. He’s just kinda there. His friendship with Lana is dull, his romance with Alma felt so forced in the ‘representation matters’ field, and like he and Sister Jude just had no family/platonic chemistry at all, not even at the end. Definitely one of Evan Peters weaker characters, Tate is better
