For the ask game, Saiyuki AU where Goku moves out and Sanzo gets an epic case of empty nest syndrome, please! (Hakkai and Gojo are collateral damages.)
This is fun!
1. Post canon, Goku moved out to live with Nataku and Lirin and help rebuild a yokai village. Sanzou was extremely skeptical. He talked big about how Goku would surely return crying in a week and pester him with letters every day. Sanzou sold his fake annoyance a bit too well, and Goku decided not to bother Sanzou.
2. Well if Goku wasn't going to write letters then Sanzou wouldn't either! Instead he spent a lot of time lurking outside the village checking up on Goku. He was sulky to see Goku looking extremely happy.
3. Sanzou went nuts completing every duty, solving every crime, and dragging Hakkai and Gojyo around the country. Though for some reason they kept ending up near the same yokai village but never actually going in. Smoking five packs of cigarettes a day made Sanzou even more temperamental to the point where even Hakkai's smiles got strained. Gojyo was seriously contemplating poisoning Sanzou's cigarettes. Sanzou hit them both repeatedly with a paper fan out of nostalgia. Criminals cowered in terror from the blond monster, leading to less work for Sanzou and more pent-up energy.
4. No one talks about that time Sanzou got drunk and cried about missing his little baby. Even Gojyo who would normally mock Sanzou is scared to say anything. Sanzou pretends not to remember.
5. The merciful goddess and the three aspects got driven absolutely insane by Sanzou bugging them for more work at all hours until eventually they begged/ordered Hakkai and Gojyo to do something. They even promised a miracle in return. Hakkai and Gojyo tried every trick to get Sanzou to visit Goku but nothing worked. In desperation they concluded the only way to get those two stubborn idiots into the same room would be for Hakkai and Gojyo to fake-marry each other and put both their friends in the wedding party.
+1 All this was unnecessary because Goku had gotten lonely and would have visited Sanzou the next day if they'd done nothing. It spiraled into a massive wedding inviting all the gang's enemies because it's not like they have any friends to invite. Due to trope shenanigans the fake relationship turned real and Hakkai and Gojyo actually got married. Goku caught the wedding bouquet which sent Sanzou into a new "my baby is too young and innocent to get married" crisis mode.

prompts based on Epic: The Musical!
i decided i've been to normal about this obsession for a while so i composed a list of prompts based on the lyrics from the musical. send me prompt number and a character(s) and I'll try to write something based on it! no guarantee if i will finish everything but i thought it would be fun to try.
"What was that?" - "A vision of what is to come, cannot be outrun, can only be dealt with right here and now..."
"The blood on your hands is something you won't lose - all you can choose is whose"
"Will these actions haunt my days? Every man I've slain - is the price I pay endless pain?"
"When does a ripple become a tidal wave, when does the reason become the blame, when does a man become a monster?"
"I see in your face, there is so much guilt inside your heart - so why not replace it and light up the world?"
"I see you changing from how I designed you; have you forgotten your purpose? Let me remind you!"
"Time to drink your blood over where you stand; your life now is in my hand"
"You shall be the final man to die."
"No backup; no chance for support, so draw out your swords, our foe must be thwarted right here and now; show me how great is your will to survive!"
"We're the ones who carry on the flames of those who's gone"
"I am neither man nor mythical"
"If I became the monster and threw that guilt away - would that make us stronger? would it keep our foes at bay?"
"Wouldn't you like a taste of the power, wouldn't you like to use more than words?"
"You and I are now evenly matched; our fates are intertwined, they're attached!"
"There are other means of persuasion; there are other modes of control"
"Unlike you, I've got no mercy left to give"
"Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves"
"Tell me, Odysseus: if I were to make you choose the lives of your men and crew or your own, why do I think they lose?"
"You're being given a final option; consider this your one last chance to make it back home, and abandon caution - wash it away like the blood your hands had known!"
"You'll have ran out of bones to break when you and I are through"
"What kind of sick coward holds back his power while his friends get devoured?"
"In the heat of battle, on the edge of the unknown - somewhere in the shadows, lurks an agile, deadly foe..."
"You're like a brother I could never do without!" - "Yet suddenly you doubt that I could figure this out?"
"I see a man who gets to make it home alive - but it's no longer you."
(feel free to reblog and use for yourself if interested)

13: Favorite storyline? 17: A quest(line) you loathe doing? 42: Favorite flashpoint?
Thank you! swtor asks be upon ye
13. Favorite storyline?
I want to inject Imperial Agent directly into my veins. We’re well beyond the lie that I’m fine about Imperial Agent. Any time I think I've become a little bit normal about Imperial Agent, I'm reminded of something and I am, once again, an actual wreck. That 'something' tends to be chapter two related, but Imperial Agent is just... Nothing could possibly compare. It irreversibly affected my experience of all other class stories - and I say that in a completely awestruck and admiring way. It stands on its own, but its the silent, extra drop of nuance and knowledge when you see how it touches so much else in the game in so many ways. It's almost always subtly lurking anywhere you could (and wouldn't) think to look for it.
I think I’m up to four(?) of them lurking around that actually have backstories/justifications, but do not be fooled: the matter of more agents is not if. It is when. And how.
17. A quest(line) you loathe doing?
Planetary arc for Corellia. Either side. I would rather fling myself off the Balmorran elevators than do this planetary questline again. If I even vaguely hear the “take Axial park” initiative one more time, I will combust spontaneously. I will literally do anything but the planetary arc when left to my own devices. I’ve finished off class stories at like level 47 rather than do the Corellian planetary arc. Give me Directive Seven for the last two or three levels if I slack on the planetary quests or, hell, I would even rather do Corellian heroics. And those also suck, btw. Corellia, it’s not personal, I promise, but fuck Corellia daknfsldfsdf.
Some of it may absolutely be that being so close to the end makes me chomp at the bit for that sweet, sweet, epic conclusion to the class story journey, but the Corellian arc, more than anywhere else, felt unnecessarily long, like it baited me several times into thinking we were so close to the end only to pull the rug out from under me and give me an additional twenty objectives and here's three other quests before you even know what an Axial Park IS. We've been talking about it for half of the quests, it's the Thing We Need To Do, but also no, go do this other shit first lmaooo.
(Okay... Maybe I have a particularly strong grudge against Axial Park...)
42. Favorite flashpoint?
Ohhhh, good one! I’m mostly picking from the story mode flashpoints because I’ve very rarely put a paw in the group finder pool.
I’m so sorry to everyone whose Malgus PTSD I’m about to trigger, but picking from aesthetics/surrounds primarily, I really enjoyed the Ruins of Nul and I was excited to spend a little bit more time on Elom. I am enchanted by the trees. I really haven't gone back to it outside of story runs, but it's pretty, the bonus objectives are interesting to go through. Dance Dance Lazer Floor Revolution I could probably do without and be just as happy, but I suppose it all works out when you give me pretty scenery to stare at, lol.

"Beast Mode" drops on March 18th, so get ready to turn up the volume!

What are Quartz Crystals even For?
August 2022's theme is "Deep Sea Dangers"!
Meta Flair & Rule 9 Changes
Quartz geodes in the Nether
Quartz can also be found in the Nether by mining. They are born below the age of 30 and they are much smaller than amethyst geodes. They spawn in sand valleys of souls more often, with only the top layer appearing.
They are made up of 3 blocks: crystalline quartz which is semi-transparent quartz which appears blurry. Perfect to build those architectural window block thingies that were so popular in the 2000s. Minecraft server list Also, the outer shell will be smooth basalt. The middle shell (which could be similar to the calcite), will still contain calcite.
What is it like? It's just like the quartz item texture, but in 3D. It is made from the basalt block.
Interesting mechanics
Striders are attracted to these locations. This makes them easier to find for newer players.
What are the functions that quartz crystals serve? Well, combine them with 4 echo shards of an artisan grid as well as a magnifying glass and you get the netherscope. The netherscope makes netherrack invisible when you gaze through it, essentially like semi-sight mode. It's quite unique and a brand new method of exploration
Redditors, it's your turn! Your troops and commanders will win epic battles. Join millions of online gamers!
all mobs hostile to each other should be scared of sculk and actively avoid it
This is due to the fact that sometimes hostile mobs lurk in the dark. They are often found in the vicinity of the ancient city's borders and can create dangerous situations for the warden. It is a feature that makes the deep dark fair possible. However it also means that mobs have a fear of the area. This property can be removed by mining or moving the Sculkblock. Only natural sculk blocks will keep mobs away.
Does the sculk produced by sculk catalysts count? perhaps it could but i can't imagine how to balance that.
Parrots make sacrifices for themselves in Ancient Cities
Parrots aren't very useful at the moment If you're about to die from the Warden, and there's a bird on your shoulder, the bird will fly away making a Shrieker sound. This is a sign that the Warden has priority over all else. It will give you a chance to escape, but it could also cause the bird to die.
In terms of building blocks are concerned, what would you say that the game is missing?
In addition to general variety, I've been hoping to see more cultural representation in Minecraft. Village and Pillage was a good beginning, they pulled a surprising amount from real cultures without just copy and pasting them into the game, but the villages are built using fairly standard blocks. Obviously they shouldn't be overspecialized however, if they are looking to make structures truly unique to the biome, I believe it's a good idea for future blocks to reflect certain design principles or the customs.
This is something that Bedrock's character creator has done quite well at. They've had events that tie-in with holidays such as Chinese New Year before, but the items are generally stylized to fit into the Minecraft universe and are usually identified by simple nouns or adjectives. There's no Christmas in this world, only joy. Does this make sense?

Space Tail takes you on an emotional journey via Linux
Tumblr media
Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home 2.5D adventure platformer game launches on Linux and Windows PC. Which is the work of developer Enjoy Studio and Longterm Games. Available now in a vibrant setting on Steam and GOG. In this 2.5D platformer we are going through a story of the dog named Bea, send into space. Who along with the Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home player is having epic adventures? Due to meeting a lot of less and more friendly creatures from outer space. Before humans explored space by themselves, a lot of animals were paving the way to the stars. There can also get up close to what a lot of people encountered years after. Inspiring Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home. Sadly, a lot of animals did not survive this journey… except for Bea.
Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home - Launch Trailer (Linux, Windows PC)
youtube
Bea is not a superdog in Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home. She doesn’t have any superhuman – or to be precise: super dog – powers. So just like any other dog, she can rely only on her senses: smell, sight, and hearing. However, there is also a basic mechanic mode called “detective mode”. All due to help her reach her goal and protect her from danger. During her Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home journey, Bea will meet many aliens. Some of them will be friendly, others will treat Bea as a danger. You can interact with the creatures and communicate through a dialogue system. Which is also based on the dog's behavior - to create a bond. But also find some common language and help each other. However, you need to be very careful, because each action will have its outcomes.
Different Worlds
Traveling across different worlds Bea will befriend two entities: Comet Rose and the robot 8088Y. They will accompany her through the almost entire game. Due to help her solve puzzles and rescue her from troubles. And in the end, influence the game ending. Each companion has unique abilities, which the player will have to use at the right moment in the game. Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home gives a fun, but also makes players think. Since this is not a simple story about a dog in space. It’s a homage to every animal who leads humans way to the stars. As well as the journey to times when every one of us played retro platformers.
Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home Features:
Experience space adventure as an astronaut dog
Follow your senses to traverse and discover secrets hidden on planets
Communicate with inhabitants using a unique “dialogue system” - dog’s body language
Enlist the help of the space companions in Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home. Such as a comet and a robot so you can acquire new skills l
Solve unusual and sophisticated logic puzzles
Test your agility by overcoming the dangers lurking on alien planets
Explore the intriguing and thought provoking story of the universe
Immerse yourself in the stirring original soundtrack
Find the way home
Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home 2.5D adventure platformer game launches on Steam and GOG. Along with support for Linux and Windows PC.

Thelreads, MHA 263, Replies Part 2
1) “YEAH YEAH GOOD FUCKING LUCK WITH THAT, I BET KAMINARI IS GOING TO NEUTRALIZE YOUR QUIRK IN ONE SECOND.”- It seems their quirks differ in terms of ‘output’ and practicality. Kaminari’s allows him to produce his own charge and steadily build up electricity on his own, which can be further enhanced why giving him sockets and such to drain power from, but at the cost of lowered defences against this same electricity and how it impacts his brain, not to mention not having as powerful an output as Cigarette man. His quirk, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to allow him to produce his own electricity, but instead allows him to take existing sources of electricity and ‘maximise’ the output for an attack greatly exceeding what he put in, but with the side-effect of being unable to attack on his own if he’d deprived of electricity to produce the initial ‘spark’ he needs. If Kaminari sucks up all his voltage at once, he’s powerless unless somebody has multiple Tasers on hand to revitalise his energy. 2) “oh right, Cigarette man is fucking around and he`s about to find out. Kaminari`s quirk is far more powerful, and he doesn`t even need any tech to crank it up.
This is going to be a one-sided massacre for pikachu, that`s for sure.”- Generally, speaking, it seems Kaminari’s quirk is less powerful, but more ‘stable’ and versatile than Cigarette man’s. He won’t beat him in a battle of power, but he doesn’t need to if he’s got allies on his side to handle him whilst he cancels out his voltage blasts. 3) “HELL FUCKING YEAH, THERE GOES MY BOY
DOING AN EPIC POSE AND KICKASS ONE LINER BEFORE THE ELECTRICITY FRIES HIS BRAINS AND HE`S TAKEN OUT OF THE FIGHT FOR THE NEXT FEW HOURS. IT DOESN`T MATTER, HE DID HIS PART, WE`RE PROUD OF HIM.”- The power surge will either overload his brain to doofus mode, or if he’s improved his handling of the quirk he might be able to use it against some of the clustered PLF goons in the back, in an ironic reversal of what Cigarette man intended. 4) “HUH WHA
WHA
TNNO NO NO
WHAT THE FUCK NO HWAAWAKNS GWHATA YOUR DOING NO NO NO NO NO OH GOD
NO
OH GOD FUCKNO HES GON
NO ABSOLUTEY NO”- On the one hand we have heroes on the outside as the bastions of righteousness they claim to be, taking the fight straight to the assembled villains lurking in the shadows and bravely facing them head-on before people get hurt. On the other we have a lone hero hiding in the darkness and stabbing a mentally traumatised man who trusted him in the back whilst he’s confused and saddened by his betrayal. Both of these are necessary for the heroes to win with minimum casualties, but at the same time, it does underscore the grim reality that the kids can only afford to have the rose-tinted view of the situation (PLF Bad people, us heroes Good) because of somebody like Hawks having to get his hands dirty. And whilst the outcome might overall benefit the ‘greater good’, it’s still a bitter pill to swallow seeing how broken Jin’s been by everything in his life and then having this happen to him.    (MHA ch 255) 5) “oh my fucking god twice- You know, I wouldn`t rule this being you just being, well, you, but I prefer to believe it was Hawks tricking you into gathering intel for him to send back home, because that would be just fucking hilarious to see.”- Not so funny now, huh? Twice really does spend his entire time onscreen looking for somebody to put his trust in and be helpful to, and literally everybody but the League betrayed that trust in one way or another. Poor guy deserves a hug, but I doubt he’d trust anybody but the league to give it to him now. 6) “ABSOLUTELY NOT. FUCK NO
OH GOD WHAT THE FUCK- I MEAN, I KNOW THAT TWICE IS THE MOST DANGEROUS MEMBER OF THE LEAGUE AFTER SHIGARAKI AND TAKING HIM OUT OF THE FIGHT IS A PRIORITY BUT
NOT LIKE THIS
OH MY GOD NO HAWKS I WANTED YOU TO RECRUIT HIM OR AT THE LEAST KIDNAP HIM SO HE WOULD BE AWAY FROM DANGER. LOCK HIM AND GIVE HIM SOME PSYCHIATRIC TREATMENT NOT FUCKING KILL HIM WHILE EVERYBODY IS DISTRACTED
OH MY GOD WHAT THE FUCK”- Fantasy vs Reality. Maybe Hawks could have swayed Twice against his allies – maybe -if he was given more time, but on the other hand, he doesn’t really know Twice all that well. Sure, he can tell twice is a nice guy deep down, but getting him to turn against his friends after everything they’ve been through is the kind of emotional conversation that would require Hawks to have and in-depth understanding of Twice’s backstory and broken psyche, something that would have happened from the kind of ‘baring your soul’ conversation that had both men outlining the whole truth about each other and where they stand. Because he’s always kept his real self hidden from others because of his mission, Hawks actually doesn’t have a clue about what drives Twice beyond his surface-level understanding of him. And maybe that could have been remedied if they’d been given more time, but with the villain’s accelerated timetable that wasn’t really an option that Hawks could use, so because of both his position and the overall situation between their opposing side, Hawks is being forced into this. He’s probably not happy about it, but if he does nothing then he’s responsible for all the calamity that would ensure from an active Sad Man’s parade. ‘All that is required for evil to win is for good men to do nothing’. Though, that quote was probably not taking into account the idea that a good man might have no other choice but to preform an ‘evil’ task to avert greater evil as a result. @thelreads

Cat goes fishing free to play

#Cat goes fishing free to play how to
#Cat goes fishing free to play for mac os x
#Cat goes fishing free to play mod
The same goes for the music and sound effects, which are very simple. There are no visual options to tweak in the game, though, and even getting it to play correctly in full-screen mode requires the editing of config files for some players, which is a pity. The way in which the fish dart about almost makes them look like cardboard cut-outs, but this just adds to the charm. There are plenty of different fish lurking about, but the game features very little in the way of animations. Everything is viewed from a side-on perspective and the camera follows your lure down as it is cast into the water. Visually Cat Goes Fishing is as simple as can be with basic 2D sprites for your cat and the variety of fish that can be caught.
#Cat goes fishing free to play how to
There are a couple of fish in particular that can make your life very difficult if you don’t know how to deal with them, but we will leave that up to players to discover themselves. Playing in “Realism” mode makes for harder and more satisfying catches, but can also be more frustrating. Here your line can snap if too much tension is placed on it, which is something that every fish you catch will attempt to do. On “Classic” mode this is all you have to worry about, but bumping the difficulty up to “Realism” mode adds an additional twist. Even after hooking a fish, you are not out of the woods yet as bigger fish will take bites from smaller ones that you have hooked if you get too close to them. Things become even trickier in the water as you’ll want to steer your bait away from the fish that you don’t want and towards the ones you do. Casting requires some skill to get the line to go where you want it to be as you have to time each cast correctly. As simple as this is, there are quite a few things that can go wrong along the way. The fish can then be reeled in and sold for money or kept on the line to use as bait. Eventually, the cat will even be able to afford boats that allow it to venture out into deeper water where the biggest and most valuable fish reside.įrom a gameplay perspective, players must cast their lure into the water then attempt to position it in such a way that they hook a fish. These can then be used to unlock new rods, upgrades for the rods as well as consumables that provide once-off benefits. Starting with a very basic fishing rod, players must catch fish to earn money and gain experience. The game appears to be based on a prototype Flash game from a few years back, called Fishing Girl, and features a simple, but very addictive gameplay loop. The deeper you go, the more treacherous enemies you’ll face.Cat Goes Fishing by Cat5Games is a casual indie game about a cat catching fishing. Gather diamonds to unlock permanent upgrades and better equipment to traverse deeper into the NecroDancer’s lair. Whether you aim to get the highest scores or complete runs in the fastest times, you can compete against a robust community of players in a range of permanent and daily challenges across all characters. Reach great heights as you disco down through the depths of the crypt. Remixes by FamilyJules, A_Rival, Chipzel, OCRemix, Girlfriend Records, and Virt!

The Velvet Underground’s 30 greatest songs – ranked!
Tumblr media
30. Ride Into the Sun (1969)The Velvets recorded two versions of Ride Into the Sun: a fabulous 1969 instrumental laden with fuzz guitar and a hushed 1970 vocal take backed by organ. Somewhere between the two lies one of their great lost songs; Lou Reed’s disappointingly flat 1972 solo version doesn’t do it justice at all.
29. Run Run Run (1967)For all the shock engendered by the lyrics of Heroin and I’m Waiting for My Man, the most malevolent-sounding track on the debut album might be Run Run Run, a powerful R&B groove lent a gripping darkness by Reed’s noisy guitar playing and the screw-you-I-take-drugs sneer of his vocals.
28. Beginning to See the Light (1969)The title suggests awakening, the melody is bright, but the lyrics are dark and bitter. They may have been directed at John Cale, who played on an initial version of the song, which was subsequently re-recorded after Reed sacked him, against the wishes of his bandmates. A ferocious 1969 live version amps up the tension.
27. Foggy Notion (1969)Reed was a lifelong doo-wop fan. His passion usually found its expression when the Velvet Underground recorded backing vocals for their ballads – as on Candy Says – but the tough, rocking Foggy Notion went a stage further, gleefully stealing a chunk of the Solitaires’ 1955 single Later for You Baby.
26. The Gift (1968)In which the band set a two-chord grind that may, or may not, have been based on their instrumental Booker T in one channel and a blackly comic Reed short story read by Cale in the other. “If you’re a mad fiend like we are, you’ll listen to them both together,” offered the producer, Tom Wilson.
25. Guess I’m Falling in Love (1967)Recorded at the White Light/White Heat sessions, but never completed, the April 1967 live recording of Guess I’m Falling in Love – taped at the Gymnasium in New York – will more than suffice. It boasts three chords, a distinct rhythm and blues influence, Reed in streetwise, so-what punk mode and explosive guitar solos somehow potentiated by the rough sound quality.
24. Temptation Inside Your Heart (1968)“It was not Mein Kampf – my struggle,” the guitarist Sterling Morrison once reflected of the Velvet Underground’s career. “It was fun.” A delightful late Cale-era outtake that inadvertently captured Morrison, Cale and Reed’s giggly backchat as they recorded the backing vocals, Temptation Inside Your Heart bears that assessment out.
Tumblr media
23. New Age (1970)New Age comes in two varieties. Take your pick from the world-weary, small-hours rumination found on 1969: The Velvet Underground Live, or the more epic studio version that the Velvets biographer Victor Bockris suggested was “an attempt to present some encouraging statements to a confused audience as the 70s began”. Both are superb.
22. After Hours (1969)The Velvets’ eponymous 1969 album ends, improbably, with the drummer, Moe Tucker, singing a song that could have dated from the pre-rock era. The twist is that her childlike voice and the cute melody conceals an almost unbearably sad song, ostensibly a celebration of small-hours boozing, but filled with longing and regret.
21. I Can’t Stand It (1969)Amid the Velvets’ songs about drugs and drag queens lurked the plaintive sound of Reed pining for his college sweetheart, Shelley Albin, the subject of Pale Blue Eyes, I Found a Reason and I Can’t Stand It. The latter’s cocky strut is disrupted by a desperate lyrical plea: “If Shelley would just come back, it’d be all right.”
20. The Black Angel’s Death Song (1967)There is something folky and vaguely Dylan-esque at the heart of The Black Angel’s Death Song, but by the time Cale had finished with it – alternately strafing it with screeching, insistent viola and hissing into the microphone in lieu of a chorus – it sounded, and still sounds, unique.
19. I Found a Reason (1970)It is one of the ironies of the Velvet Underground that the most forward-thinking, groundbreaking band of their era could occasionally sound like old-fashioned rock’n’roll revivalists. Buried on side two of Loaded was one of the loveliest of Lou Reed’s loving homages to doo-wop, complete with spoken-word section.
18. Some Kinda Love (1969)Musically straightforward, sensual in tone, Some Kinda Love is a complex business, part seduction soundtrack, part refusal to be hemmed in by standard categories of sexuality – “no kinds of love are better than others … the possibilities are endless / and for me to miss one / would seem to be groundless”. Killer line: “Between thought and expression lies a lifetime.”
17. European Son (1967)European Son isn’t a song so much as an eruption. It sounds like a band overturning the established order of rock’n’roll, almost literally: after two brief verses, it bursts into thrilling frantic chaos with a verbatim crash, like the contents of an upended table hitting the floor.
16. Rock & Roll (1970)It is hard to see Loaded’s driving, joyous hymn to music’s redemptive power – “her life was saved by rock and roll” – as anything other than disguised autobiography on the part of Reed. The suggestion that music will endure “despite all the amputations”, meanwhile, seems to look forward to his departure from the Velvet Underground.
15. Candy Says (1969)No one else in 1969 was writing songs remotely like Candy Says, a stunning, tender pen portrait of the transgender Warhol superstar Candy Darling set to a gentle doo-wop inspired backing. Its melancholy seems to presage the note Darling wrote on her deathbed in 1974: “I had no desire for life left … I am just so bored by everything.”
Tumblr media
14. Sunday Morning (1967)Sunday Morning was written at the behest of Wilson. He wanted a single that might conceivably get on the radio; he got a haunting, melancholy sigh of a song, its battered wistfulness and undercurrent of paranoia – “watch out, the world’s behind you” – the perfect encapsulation of morning-after regret.
13. What Goes On (1969)Morrison maintained that the studio incarnation of What Goes On wasn’t a patch on the live versions the band performed with Cale on organ. Maybe, but the studio incarnation featuring Cale’s replacement, Doug Yule, is great. It prickles with nervous energy, Reed’s guitar playing is amazing, its churning coda takes up half the song and it still feels too short.
12. Femme Fatale (1967)Apparently provoked by the damaged, doomed Warhol superstar Edie Sedgwick – with whom Cale had a brief affair – Femme Fatale is as beautiful and fragile as its inspiration. The story of a wary, ruined former suitor warning others off the titular anti-heroine is lent a chilly edge by Nico’s delivery.
11. I Heard Her Call My Name (1968)In the Velvets’ early days, Reed purported to be “the fastest guitarist alive”. A berserk claim, but his Ornette Coleman-inspired solos on I Heard Her Call My Name are some of the most extraordinary and viscerally exciting in rock history, frequently atonal, spiked with ear-splitting feedback and pregnant pauses.
10. Ocean (1969)The Velvet Underground recorded Ocean several times – one version is supposed to feature the return of Cale on organ – but never released it in their lifetime, which seems extraordinary. It is among the greatest of their later songs, its atmosphere beautiful, the epic ebb and flow of its sound completely immersive.
9. I’m Waiting for the Man (1967)An unvarnished lyrical depiction of scoring drugs tied to music on which Reed’s rock’n’roll smarts and Cale’s background in minimalist classical music – the pounding, one-chord piano part – meld in a kind of relentless perfection. Amusingly, there is now a pharmacy at the song’s fabled location of Lexington 125.
8. I’ll Be Your Mirror (1967)A song about Reed’s affair with Nico that could just as easily be about Andy Warhol’s approach to art, I’ll Be Your Mirror is one of those Velvet Underground tracks that makes their initial commercial failure seem baffling. How could a pop song as wonderful as this fail to attract attention? Nico and Morrison on stage at the New York Society for Clinical Psychiatry annual dinner in 1966.
7. White Light/White Heat (1968)A delirious paean to amphetamine, its subject reflected in the lyrics – “I surely do love to watch that stuff tip itself in” – and the turbulent, distorted rush of its sound. The band appear to be barely in control as it careers along; the chaotic finale, where Cale finally loses his grip on the bass line, is just fantastic.
6. Heroin (1967)Heroin was the deal-breaker at early Velvets gigs, provoking a “howl of bewilderment and outrage”. The shock of its subject matter has dulled with time, but its surges from folky lament to sonic riot still sound breathtaking. Oddly sweet moment: Reed’s chuckle as Tucker loses her place amid the maelstrom and suddenly stops playing.
Tumblr media
5. Pale Blue Eyes (1969)“High energy does not necessarily mean fast,” Reed once argued. “High energy has to do with heart.” Hushed, limpidly beautiful and almost unbearably sad, Pale Blue Eyes’ depiction of a strained, adulterous relationship proves his point. In its own vulnerable way, it is as powerful as anything the Velvet Underground recorded.
4. Sweet Jane (1970)Sweet Jane started life as a ballad – see the versions recorded live at the Matrix in San Francisco in 1969 – but, sped and toughened up, it became as succinct and perfect a rock’n’roll song as has ever been written, based around one of the greatest riffs of all time.
3. Venus in Furs (1967)For a band who inspired so much other music, the Velvet Underground’s catalogue is remarkably rich with songs that still sound like nothing else; they were as inimitable as they were influential. Venus in Furs is a case in point: umpteen artists were galvanised by its dark, austere atmosphere; none succeeded in replicating it.
2. Sister Ray (1968)A monumental journey into hitherto-uncharted musical territory, where a primitive garage-rock riff meets Hubert Selby-inspired lyrics and improvisation that sounds like a psychological drama playing out between Reed and Cale, all at skull-splitting volume. Fifty-three years later, it is without peer for white-knuckle intensity.
1. All Tomorrow’s Parties (1967)Ninety per cent of the Velvet Underground’s oeuvre consists of no-further-questions classics. The astonishingly high standard of almost everything they did makes picking their “best” song a matter of personal preference, rather than qualitative judgment. So let’s go for Warhol’s favourite, on which the sour and sweet aspects of their debut album entwine faultlessly. The melody is exquisite; the music monolithic and unrelenting, powered by Cale’s hammering piano and Tucker’s stately drums; Nico’s performance perfectly inhabits the lyrics, which turn a depiction of a woman choosing what dress to wear into a meditation on emptiness and regret. It is original and utterly masterly: the Velvet Underground in a nutshell.

Watch me praise the heck out of Jujutsu Kaisen despite starting only two nights ago and only being on EP 12 so far
Jokes aside, Jujutsu Kaisen is turning out to be one of the best anime series i've ever watched and quite possibly, one of the best animes of the coming decade???
Plot is actually interesting to theorize about and to see it play out. The main goal of our protagonist, Itadori, is to find and harvest all of Sukuna's fingers for him to consume and house the whole version of Sukuna's soul just for the Sorcerers to kill him once he finally does in order to vanquish and be rid of one of the most powerful cursed entities in existence. That's insane. That's a hella good main plot. Itadori's basically just a lamb being cared and fed for until he eventually has to be led to the slaughter. And he's aware of it and completely accepts it cuz being the only person in the world who's able to control Sukuna as his vessel, he thinks it would be selfish of him not to do it, to not willingly sacrifice himself and help other people remove this evil entity from the world at the expense of his own life.
Initially, he wanted to do good becuz he wanted to honor the fateful last words of his grandfather, who outright told him he's meant to help and save other people becuz he was gifted with outstanding physical capabilities and he should put it to good use. But then, he's told that if he's only engaging with the cursed spirit world becuz of his grandfather's wishes, he'll eventually start to resent his grandfather and blame him for all the pain he has to endure and the sacrifices he'll make being involved with dangerous and malevolent beings that'll stop at nothing to kill him in order to harbor Sukuna's powers for themselves, until he reaches the point where he's laying on his deathbed filled with regret and cursing his grandpapi to the depths of hell.
Having realized this, your boi makes his own resolve to dabble in the spirit world on his own terms and fight for defenseless people who are unaware of the inhuman dangers that lurk the earth becuz Itadori actually has a strong sense of justice and believes people get what they deserve, but no one is horrible enough to deserve suffering and death at the hands of cursed spirits.
I'm usually indifferent to shonen MCs cuz they typically follow the same format when it comes to their characterization. Your typical guy next door who's friendly, outgoing, kind of an airhead, gets flustered around girls, doesn't get much attention from the people around him, feels inferior and has a rivalry going on with the 2nd male lead, all smiles and sunshine and sickeningly nice, yada yada yada. All in all, just flat out BORING.
I'm running out of words so I'll stop here, I don't think I need to comment on the animation cuz no amount of praise or blubbering on my end can justify how beautiful and exquisite the animation is. Let's just say I now see why some AoT fans went on a rampage and claimed MAPPA was playing favorites with JJK cuz the animation on this series is sensational enough to make any other series jealous along with its fanbase (not that I'm saying the accusations were true and that I condone the hate that the studio was subjected to. like wtf, people who harass the folks that work their asses off to bring you god-level quality entertainment don't deserve anime).
Surprisingly enough, the sentiment doesn't ring true when it comes to Itadori. Even tho he shares a few generic character traits with other shonen MCs, I actually really like him and he isn't a bore to watch and follow around as the story progresses and I'm honestly just questioning what makes him different from all the other MCs and why can't every other shonen protagonist be likable and interesting enough to not turn me into a goat becuz they always make me go: meh.
I also really like the non-linear narrative JJK has going on. It actually has the potential to be quite off-putting since not a lot of animes do that sort of thing (at least I can't think of any at the top of my head), but they execute it well and do it in moderation to effectively steer it away from being too jarring. I think it's a great method for avoiding potential info dumps and filler episodes and other manga authors should deploy this technique more often cuz it's a great switch-up, storytelling-wise.
The narrative is also somewhat fast-paced, bordering on neck-break speed on some occasions, and I don't mind honestly. Don't you just hate it when the story goes full-on snail mode where every episode feels like a chore to finish and not at all like it has a 23 minute time constraint? Yea, completely throws enjoyability out the window. There hasn't been a dull moment yet in my experience, and how quickly everything plays out just encourages you to pay utmost attention and keep your eyes completely glued to the screen so to not miss any of the epicness happening before your eyes.
The soundtrack has no business being this fucking amazing. You might think I'm being nitpicky and actively looking out for things to criticize the animes that I watch on, but no, most times I don't even pay attention to all that or miss the quality of those elements entirely cuz it's too subtle of a detail for me to notice. But here, it just enhances the experience so much and compliments what's happening on-screen so well that it's hard not to take notice and feel so fucking appreciative of the awesome background music that gets you properly hyped while watching the fight scenes and lending the ambience for the milder and more emotional scenes.
Might make follow-up reviews in the future, who knows. Still haven't finished it like I said and I have a lot of thoughts on the other characters, if I feel like ranting about it, rest assured I definitely will lol.
