The Other Boleyn Girl 👑✨🖤 Welcome to the grounds of Hever Castle 🏰. Dating back to the 13th century, Hever Castle was once the childhood home of Anne Boleyn! I’d highly recommend a tour of Hever Castle for a peek at what life looked like for the Boleyn family many moons ago. In more “modern” times, the formal Loggia fountain (here!) was inspired by the Trevi fountain in Rome and completed in 1908 after William Waldorf Astor, the American millionaire, acquired Hever Castle and restored the property. The castle and grounds look as amazing as they do today thanks to his family’s restoration efforts. I absolutely love learning about history and visiting spots like this throughout England. There is always so much to discover. Ashby de la Zouch Castle . 🏰 Ashby-De-La-Zouch castle is a ruined fortification in the town of Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire, England. . 🏰 The castle was built by William, Lord Hastings, a favourite of Edward IV, after 1473, accompanied by the creation of a 3,000-acre (1,200 ha) park. . 🏰 Constructed on the site of an older manor house, two large towers & various smaller buildings had been constructed by 1483, when Hastings was executed by Richard, Duke of Gloucester (King Richard III). . 🏰 The Hastings family used the castle as their seat for several generations, improving the gardens & hosting royal visitors. . 🏰 During the English Civil War of the 1640s, Henry, a younger son in the Hastings family, became a Royalist commander in the Midlands. He based himself out of the castle until he was forced to surrender it after a long siege. A fresh rebellion occurred in 1648, leading Parliament to slight the castle in order to prevent it being used militarily: the two towers were badly damaged with gunpowder & undermining. . 🏰 Parts of the remaining castle were turned into a new house & continued to be used by members of the Hastings family for many years, although they moved their main residence to Donington Hall. . . . #HistoricEngland #Heritage #crown #britishmonarchy #godsavethequeen #windsor #RoyalHistory #HistoryFacts #British #Historic #Instahistory #EnglishHeritage #HistoryFacts #History #castle #Castles #EnglishCastles #VisitEngland #England #EnglishCastle #Medieval #EnglishHistory #Ashbydelazouch #Ashbydelazouchcastle #Leicestershire #Royalists #LordHastings #Stronghold #englishcivilwar (at Ashby de la Zouch Castle) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4-Fm_FAeSU/?igshid=jeu4mrb1hi66
For this painting I used a couple references from a couple of national geographic magazine about castles and England. Even though this Castle is located in Kentucky I feel a English design is very fitting. This place is a castle of an organization called the "Assistance" and it also doubles as a hospital. The Assistance is made up of highly skilled scientist and specialists and will be the quad squads main source of help. Go and find a more symmetrical castle. Towering and intimidating but quite hollow on the inside as it was gutted by a fire in 1929. It’s still pleasant to walk around none-the-less-TommyC
I mean, wow. This castle is stunning and is used today as a wedding venue. When you look from the outside you would expect the inside to be lavish and have many historic artefacts in a good state of preservation - it has some. However, the castle was ravished by fire and much of the interior was lost. The castle of course still houses some historic artefacts but the interior of the castle in places, is essentially a shell of what would have been. At the time of our visit troops were exercising on the land across the road from the castle, so don’t be dismayed if you hear several loud bangs during your visit; you’re just across the road from a military training area -RoxyC
