Emmer knew this whole thing had been a mistake.
Well, it wasn’t that simple. It refused to regret going on a rescue mission when it heard its old friend - its dearest - had been kidnapped and was suffering through who-knew-what, knowing that Taba could not at all be relied on to actually help their own son, knowing they thought help was for the weak. It wouldn’t regret that, even though it knew it had risked its neck crossing the broder back into the kingdom it had been banished from; while it would be horrific to subject its sisters to another loss, they were now old enough to handle themselves, unlike when Taba had banished it, forcing it to take them with it.
But now there were heralds sent out along the road to summon it back to the castle.
And it knew - barring the possibility this was a trap, even, although it couldn’t fathom why Taba would try to trap it suchly now of all times - if it went there straight, Taba would know it had already crossed the border by the time word got out it was allowed.
But what was it supposed to do? Wait and let suffer a friend who probably had no one else for support?
It had to take the risk.
* Sharru was so exhausted he could have cried, if he hadn’t known that would exhaust him more.
There simply didn’t seem to be any relief for him; there hadn’t been for days. He had slept intermittently, and only with his parent by his side, which by now heaped more guilt and shame on the mess of fear and heplessness he was already feeling. He wished he could sleep more, because when he was awake, everything was a struggle. He had forced himself out of his room eventually, sick with fear, but he had yet to have a conversation with anyone, aside from a few words exchanged with his parent. And they - they tried to help, at least it suspiciously looked like that. But he couldn’t shake the dread of their patience finally running out, of them forcing him back into his proper position as the heir and punishing him when he inevitably failed.
He was, once again, awake for hours before dawn, his head splitting from the lack of sleep, and it felt so unfair - he was out of there, no one was stopping him from sleeping, and yet. Even his parent had fallen asleep in their seat, waking, infallibly and by all appearances well-rested, at the first touch of dawn to the horizon.
They looked at him; they had already given up on remarking on the fact he was awake. »Good morning.«
»Good morning,« he muttered back, even though there was nothing good about the morning, not about any morning. It was pathetic. He was safe. Why could he not act like it?
»Will you join me for breakfast?«
The fact that they were asking was… well, it was comforting and disconcerting and most of all confusing. They had, of course, noticed he struggled with so much as leaving his room. With a sinking feeling, he realized it was probably a trap. Was this it? Was this the end of it?
»I-« He swung his legs out of bed, and immediately knew the only answer he could reasonably give was »no«. He barely felt capable of getting up. Maybe read, yes, maybe he would manage to read today, but that was not what they had asked.
He got up, staggered, and found himself caught before they even could rush to his side, the heated grip of their magic quickly replaced with their arms.
For the first time, they couldn’t hide the concern on their face, and they lowered him back onto the bed. For a moment, they even sat with him, their arms still around him. It was the closest thing to a hug he could remember ever getting from them.
Then, as if remembering themself, they withdrew and stood. »I will have breakfast sent to you then.« There voice was uncannily soft, and they looked him up and down once more before turning away, as if to make sure he wouldn’t dissolve.
He heard them talk with the guards outside.
But then they came back. They sat in the same chair as before, laced their fingers together, and stared out the nearest window.
He didn’t even know whether he was imagining the shift in demeanour. In truth, being distant was much more expected, so he said nothing, but he had to try to get up again, he didn’t want to sink so low in their eyes as to eat in bed-
There was a knock at the door, his parent called, »Enter,« and in came-
»Emmer?!« Sharru’s heart staggered harder than his legs had. It couldn’t be here it was banished on pain of death it would-
He had stumbled right into its arms before he could even finish the thought, and they closed around him, warm and firm, in a real hug.
»Sharru,« it whispered, tears in its voice, and it took Sharru all he had left not to dissolve into tears himself, he had to be a very good son now-
He peeled himself away from it just enough to turn and look at his parent, ready to do whatever it took. »Please-«
They eyed Emmer with the same distaste they had always had for it - if not worse. »I didn’t want to get… your hopes up when I didn’t know when it would arrive.«
Sharru stood, completely taken aback. Did this mean - this couldn’t mean-?
Before he could recover, Emmer gently let him go to bow to Taba.
»Your Grace.« And to him, with a twitch of its lip, »Your Highness.«
Taba stood, without bothering to allow it up. »I’ll have breakfast sent to you,« they repeated, their voice stiff, and swept out of the room.

My Reputation’s Never Been Worse
Chapter 14:
Will snuck quietly into Crowley’s office and waited by the door for the older man to acknowledge him.
“You know,” Crowley said casually without lookin up from the paperwork in front of him, “when you first came back, I thought there was something vaguely familiar about your rings. I shrugged it off, figuring it was nothing. That they were the typical type of rings you’d collect after time on a pirate ship. It wasn’t until I was passing by the infirmary and saw a young knight being carried in that I realized where I recognized that insignia from.” Crowley finally looks up and nods to one of the rings on Will right hand.
Will rubbed at the ring, then crossed his arms. “And where would that be?”
“Lord Emmers dead body. Particularly, his battered in face.”
“You said it yourself, these are pretty standard rings for a rouge.”
“Except for one. Captain Nero gifts every crewman who sails under his flag for over a year with a custom made silver ring. The letter of their first name pierced through with a dagger. Lord Emmers face was embossed with a D.”
“I suppose that settles it then. My name is Will, and unless Nero is extremely illiterate, there’d be no reason for me to have a ring like that.”
Crowley shrugs, “That’s true. But you didn’t use your name with Captain Nero did you? You used your father’s. Daniel. Which why your ring was made with the letter D.” His tone left little room for disagreement and Will knew that he was backed into a corner. Because despite his faults, Crowley wasn’t the Ranger Commandant for nothing. He was whip smart, and once he started putting the pieces together, he’d always find the answers he was looking for.
Will rolls he jaw and steps closer to Crowley’s desk. “So what’s your play here Crowley? Blackmail? Another trial with insufficient evidence? You can’t hang a man for having the same fashion taste as a murder. You can’t connect Emmers death to my hands.”
“No, I can’t. Especially once I take that ring and have the blacksmith melt it down and recast it. And the physician has already started treatment on the young knight who happened to bare very similar bruises as the late Lord. In fact, by this point, his face is no doubt heavily bandaged. And those bandages won’t be coming off until the marks are long gone.”
“Why are you doing this? Why let this go?”
“Because I’ve failed you once before Will, and it is the biggest regret of my life. I won’t betray you again.”
Will pursed his lips. “Well. I suppose only time will tell if you mean what you say.”
Crowley nodded in acceptance, understanding that this was as much as he was going to get from Will at the moment. He extended his hand out and Will dropped the ring into Crowley’s open palm. As he slipped the incriminating ring into his pocket, he said, “This wasn’t the only reason I sent Gilan out looking for you. I received word from Eisel.”
“Already?” Will asked in surprise.
“Marie and Hannah didn’t delay. They sent a carrier pigeon the moment they arrived.” Crowley frowned. “They found the knights the king sent in… compromising positions.”
“I told you, Eisel has a corrupting power over men.”
“Marie will do the best she can, but I fear that without clear, physical force to back her up, there won’t be much she can do.”
“Understood. I’ll leave immediately.”
“I’m sending Horace and Gilan with you. Halt too, if you’ll have him.”
“I don’t need their help.” Will said indignantly.
“Perhaps not. But you’ll have it regardless.”
“Crowley-“
He rose his hand to interrupt whatever argument Will was about to make. “My mind is made up Will. You will have backup with you. Anyway, I doubt I could stop them from going with you. Those two would follow you into the Underworld if they could.
“That’s a good thing I suppose. Because that’s exactly where we are going.”
_____________________________________
Will left Crowley’s office and went off in search of Horace and Gilan. His plan was to leave for Eisel as quickly as possible. And without running into Halt. As he rounded the corner, he collided with a solid mass. Looking up, he could hardly believe his eyes.
“Baron Arald.” The name was a ghost on his lips.
“I think we are well past titles son.” The warmth in his words pulled Will in, like a moth to a flame. “It’s been far too long Will.” Arald smiled tenderly at him.
“I know. I’ve been,” Will huffed out an empty laugh, “I’ve been living like wild beast I suppose. Running thought out the countryside like a monster. But it’s not like I had many other options.”
Arald eyes filled with a sadness Will couldn’t understand. “You could have come home my boy. Redmont would have welcomed you back with open arms. You could have found refuge within our walls.” He paused then, “You still can.”
“But, they all must have hated me. They must have taken my alleged betrayal hatred than anyone.” Will said vehemently.
Arald gave Will the most pitying look he had ever seen. “Will, from what I have heard and seen, not a single resident of Redmont thought for even a fleeting moment that you were guilty of treason. Your people stood by you. They still speak of you with such reverence. You are still the pride and joy of Redmont.”
Will felt his stomach drop. His blood chill. His heart stop. “You mean, I could have just, gone home? All these years on the run, living in pain and terror. It was all for nothing? I could have found sanctuary at home?” He took in a shuttering breath. “Oh god, I’m going to be sick.” His knees buckled, but he didn’t crash onto the cold stone floor. Instead, from somewhere beyond the haze of regret and remorse, Will felt a strong pair of arms wrap around his shaking frame. He leaned in instinctively and inhaled the familiar scent of sandalwood and wine. The embrace transported him back to his childhood. Back to scraped knees, and fights with Horace, and nightmares of monsters under the bed. Baron Arald had always been there to hold Will, to wipe away his tears, to comfort him. It had taken years for Will to realize how much of a fatherly role the Baron had served in his life. And now, as Will comes undone in the middle of Castle Araluen, the weight of the past years crashing down onto his shoulders, Arald was there to hold him together once more.
“You always did give the best hugs.” Will murmured against Arlad’s chest once he could finally catch his breath.
“We all have our skills. You can sneak about in silence, I can give magically healing hugs.” He chuckled as he rubbed circles between Will’s shoulders.
Will pulled back and Arald wiped Will’s face dry with the sleeve of his soft, but somewhat garish tunic. “There, no need for anymore tears my boy. Now, why don’t you join Sandra and me in our suites and we can all catch up. I’ll even see if I can’t have some hot chocolate sent up.
And god, had Will ever had such a tempting offer? All he wanted was to let Arald and Sandra coddle him. For them to tell him that it would all be alright, that they still cared for him. But he had people to protect, to avenge, and to defend.
“I can’t. I have to find Horace and Gilan. We need to leave for Eisel immediately.”
“Yes, of course, Halt mentioned the situation there when he summoned me. Absolutely dreadful. If there’s anything I can do to assist-“
“Halt summoned you here?” Will hadn’t even realized he was interrupting, brain stuck on what Arald meant by that.
“Oh, yes. I thought he would have told you.”
“We haven’t exactly talked much.”
“Ah.” And there was more understanding in that single syllable than Will thought fair. “He wrote to me once you returned. He asked me to come and check in on you. I’ve only just arrived, though, there was a terribly boring but important meeting I had to see to.”
“Why did he send for you? Not that I’m complaining, I just, why?”
Baron Arlad’s face soften. “He didn’t say much, you know how stingy he is with explanations, but I believe that he hoped you could find some semblance of comfort in my company.” He looked somewhat bashful, “A reminder of home.”
“He was right.” Will admitted quietly. A reminder of home. More like a reminder of safety. Of peace. Two things Will hadn’t felt for a very long time. But having Arald’s larger than life presence besides him, he felt himself relax into the trust he had always put in the Baron. It also occurred to him that Halt knew exactly what Will needed, even if Will would never have realized it on his own. Because even with five horrible years between them, Halt knew him, better than he knew himself it would appear.

Translation by @el-the-cell:
Yesterday the Great Circle came to inspect the State Prison for his seventh yearly visit, asking me for the seventh time:
"The prisoner insist on supporting his absurd lie?" "You know very well that you are tall, as well as long and wide." "Lie! Measure my height, then, I shall believe you!"
It's been seven years, and I'm still in prison, but I keep existing, in the hope that these memories of mine could let a class of rebels arise, that refuse to live in a limited dimensionality, which for the clarity of you, inhabitants of space, I will call "flatland".
Credits shown:
FLATLAND from the fantasy novel of many dimensions by Edwin A. Abbot Film-making by Michele Emmer
Imagine a vast sheet of paper on the surface of which shadows with luminous contours move without being able to lift or dip. Straight lines, triangles, squares, hexagons and other geometrical shapes. This way you will have a correct enough idea of my country and of my compatriots. However we are not able to see anything of all that. Nothing is visible for us, except straight lines. I shall demonstrate why right away.
Let's take an equilateral triangle. If you, inhabitants of space sink your eye to the level on which it lays, it will, bit by bit, cease to appear as a shape, to appear as a straight line. Well, that is exactly what we see in Flatland when an acquaintance approaches us.
"Good morning, my dear!" "It's a pleasure to see you again!" "Is everyone doing well?" "Please give my regards to your lady!" "Goodbye!"
-How do you recognise each other?- You will ask. I shall take my time to answer you later.
Allow me to talk about the climate and the accommodations in my country. As with you, so with us there are four cardinal points: north, south, east and west. Since there isn't a sun, or other celestial bodies, it is for us impossible to determine which way the north is with the usual method. We od have our own system, though. Here, a natural law dictates that there shall be a constant attraction towards the south. And this attraction constitutes our compass. In the cities we are guided by the houses, of which the roofs are always pointing towards the north, to protect us from rainfall. The rain further helps with orientation, as it alway comes from the north. In the countryside, where there are no houses, the trees can serve as a guide, with the points always facing north. But if you happen, like it happened to me, to walk on a perfectly deserted plain, you'll be forced to stay still for hours, waiting for rain.
But let us go back to the problem of inhabitants. The inhabitants of Flatland. Our women are straight lines. Soldiers and workmen, which are our inferior classes, are isosceles triangles. Our bourgeoisie consists of equilaterals, namely triangles with equal sides. Our professionals and gentlemen are squares (class to which I, myself, belong to), and five sided shapes. Immediately above that comes aristocracy, that begins with six-sided shapes and goes on until the many-sided ones, awarded with the honorary title of "polygonal". When the number of sides becomes so great, and the size of the sides so small, a shape becomes indistinguishable from a circle. That is how you become part of the sacerdotal order, or the order of circulars: the uppermost class. In our social order, a natural law dictates that the male son shall have one more side than the father, thus climbing the ladder of nobility. This way the son of a square is a pentagon, the son of a pentagon is a hexagon, and so on. It is not that way for soldiers and workers. The son of an isosceles will always be an isosceles. I remember one time when two isosceles parents brought an equilateral into the world. It was reason to celebrate for hundreds of metres! But the newborn, recognised as "regular", was immediately taken from the despairing parents. An equilateral without offspring was summoned by the congress of the Great Circles.
"Equilateral bachelor, at your command" "You shall adopt the newborn equilateral!"
Held under oath, the new father pledged to never allow the adopted child to see his parents ever again. He now belonged to a superior class.
(Isosceles triangles gather in a house)
"We no longer accept abuses!" "Let's bring down the unjust laws!" "No one will be able to stop us!"
The acute-angled hoi polloi managed, in some to their seditions, to find leaders capable of making the Wisdom of the Circles their superior strength and numerical advantage.
"Isosceles! United, we will win!"
But the polygons manage almost always manage to stifle the sedition in the bud.
"We need to convince the leaders of the uprising to accept to partake in a discussion." "I'll tell the medics to stand ready."
The isosceles, leader of the rebels, is induced into entering one of the State Hospitals, to undergo an accurate medical examination.
(Hexagonal medic, in a German accent:)
"How is an artificial expansion possible? Thanks to a perfect surgery, the isosceles - made regular and innocuous - is thus allowed to become part of the privileged classes."
This way, the hapless mob of isosceles, deprived of their leadership, will let themselves be stabbed by a small group of their brethren, hired by the Great Circle and kept ready in the State Forts, in case of emergency.
"Soldiers, the fatherland calls!" "Ready for inspection! Present, arms! Attention! Right face! Forward March! Present, arms! Forward March!"
"Fire! Fire!"
"Fire! Fire! Fire! Wipe 'em all out! Exterminate them!"
"Fire! Fire!"
In our annals there are no less than 120 revolutions. And they all ended like this.
Some very important figures in Flatland are women. Being straight lines, They are basically invisible for us, inhabitants of the two dimensional world. A law forces them to constantly move their back part, so that we, flat beings, can see them when they arrive. Their character is ever-changing, and they get angry very easily. Since their end part is very sharp, it is not advisable to start a discussion with them in the streets.
"Please, do give way. I am in a hurry. Move aside!" "Actually, I am as well. And I arrived before you." "I'm not in the mood to waste time. Move!" "My lady, you offend me. I don't understand." "My patience has a limit!" line stabs isosceles triangle
As we have well understood, being touched by a furious woman can be very dangerous in Flatland. When we notice a woman passing through the street, we, the men, are all very careful not to cross her, or make her nervous. Our women's changing nature often causes real family tragedies. It's not rare that a woman gone crazy will exterminate her whole family, husband and children first.
"Enough, I'm sick of being at your services! I want to leave, I want my own freedom!"
An insane woman that wanders through the city immediately results in the intervention of soldiers, who are forced to eliminate her.
"Enough, go away! Stop! I'm sick of this!" "Let's get away, quick! She's dangerous." "Halt! That's enough."
Women are not a joke. Despite this, our supreme rulers, the Circles, are profoundly attracted to women. Especially the most beautiful and corrupted ones.
"Did you see that Let's follow them."
Dancing is one of the most beloved activities by circles, and all the people of flatland. And without women, what kind of dancing would it be?
A very delicate geometric problem for us, inhabitants of the flat world, a problem that inhabitants of space don't even imagine, is how to recognise each other in the street. One method consists of going around the other shape, touching gently side against side, in order to understand what shape we have encountered. We must be very careful. A brusque movement - a simple touching of the edge - can cause immediate death. But what I the reason for our problem? It's an issue of plane geometry. If I, a square, encounter another geometric shape, I'll see (as opposed to you, inhabitants of space) nothing but lines. It can be very difficult to distinguish who I have in front of me, based on what I see. I could even fail to recognise a woman.
Another big problem in my country are irregulars: geometrical shapes with unequal sides. They have difficult relationships with everyone. They can't get a job. Nobody wants anything to do with them. Even their parents don't want them.
"Just leave." "We've had enough of the problems you cause us."
Thus, the irregulars vent their anger of excluded and different on whoever first happens to be in range, causing the intervention of soldiers, who are only waiting for an excuse to intervene.
"He's dangerous! Eliminate him! Immediately!"
There is no doubt that the irregulars live very unhappy lives in flatland. But we, on the other hand, must defend our geometric regularity. Does something similar, if I may say so, not happen in your spacial world?
Years ago the fashion of colouring your sides spread in our world. Everyone competed to show off the most dazzling colours. Even the soldiers put on their dress uniforms.
The time has come that I, the square, protagonist of this tale, explain why I am in prison, where I receive the periodic visits of the Great Circle, where he invariably asks me:
"Do you still insist on your absurd lies?" "I cannot do otherwise. You know it well." "Then you shall remain in prison." "I will retain the memory of what I had the occasion to see."
And what I lived through, was the greatest adventure of my life. It began inside my house, where I live with my three sons - pentagons - (According to the law of flatland, children have one side more than their parents) with the servants - triangles of various shapes - with my wife and my son, some of the servants and two grandsons (hexagons, obviously). Then, one night, I was coming home from a tiring day. As usual, I was welcomed by my wife, and by one of my grandsons, who was drawn to geometry.
"Grandpa, you taught me that in our world length and width exist: the directions in which anything expands. Therefore if I want to calculate the surface area of a square, with a side length of, let's say, three, you'll need exactly nine little squares of unitary length. The area is three squared, which equals nine. Then why couldn't you give a meaning to the expression 'three to the power of three'?"
"Oh, nonsense! Go to sleep, I'm tired."
And I retreated to my room. I could not have predicted that I would be so soon and so spectacularly proven wrong. In the middle of the night I was woken, together with my wife, from a loud noise. I ordered my wife to return to her room. The loud noise announced the visit, dream or reality, of a being that I have since then considered sacred: the divine sphere.
The sphere. Only later I understood what it was. It had descended to visit my world. To visit us, beings unworthy and incapable of contemplating it. Obviously, I couldn't understand or see that I had a three-dimensional object in front of me, which showed on the plane of my world, what you would call a section of its shape. I did not understand it until the sphere decided to let me rise with it into space as you know it. Since that moment, I have seen things that I can not even begin to describe, for my word is unsuitable. And taken by the thrill of space, I threw myself into the analogy. But if really three dimensional objects do exist, why not think about not only about three to the third, but also about three to the fourth, why not see the cube - yes, it is divine - but in four dimensions? And seeing the sphere as well, in four dimensions? Even though I am now in prison, where I will remain forever, for trying to convince my too unworthy compatriots of the existence of space, I thank the divine sphere, that allowed me to see, or maybe dream, for a moment, the wonders of infinite space.

What's with the extremist turn in the past month or so? Why did [Nancy Mace] go from voting like a disciple of then-speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to voting like a Freedom Caucuser? The answer to that question is pretty obvious: Mace is angling for the #2 slot on the Trump ticket. She knows he's leaning toward a female running mate, and she also knows that the other contenders have liabilities, so she's making a move to cozy up to the former president. Quite a few folks who know her say that her votes against McCarthy and Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN), in particular, were cast with an eye toward getting TV appearances that would be seen by Trump, and not out of any particular convictions.

The coming week.
October 23, 2023
ROBERT B. HUBBELL
As America faces multiple crises that demand urgent action, House Republicans are going through the motions of electing a Speaker of the House. Whatever they do, it won’t matter. Until Republicans elect a Speaker who enjoys bipartisan support, any Speaker elected solely by Republicans will be doomed to fail. It is not enough to be elected Speaker. The new Speaker must immediately shepherd eleven spending bills through the House before the November 17 shutdown date—or gain support for a “continuing resolution” to keep the federal government open on a temporary basis.
Even more daunting, the eleven bills (or continuing resolution) must also pass in the Senate. It does no good for House Republicans to pass bills that are publicity stunts; such bills will not keep the government open.
So, here’s the point that will be lost in the media’s “Where’s Waldo?” coverage of the Speaker’s race: The question is not “Who can win 217 votes on the House floor?” but “When will Republicans nominate someone capable of passing legislation that will be approved by the Senate and signed by President Biden?” The answer to the latter question is, “Only when Republicans nominate a candidate who will be elected with bipartisan support.”
Sadly, Republicans have yet to humiliate and debase themselves so completely that they will—gasp!—vote for someone who will accept Democratic support to govern the House.
With that bracing reminder as background, let’s briefly look at the meaningless chaos that Americans must endure in the coming week.
As of the Sunday Noon deadline, nine Republicans had indicated their intent to seek nomination for Speaker by the GOP caucus. See Washington Post, Here are the nine Republicans running for House speaker. (This article is accessible to all.) Seven of the nine candidates voted to overturn the 2020 election results. The leading candidate—Tom Emmer—is opposed by Trump precisely because Emmer voted to certify the count of the electoral ballots. See Mother Jones, Tom Emmer Didn’t Help Trump Steal the 2020 Election. It’s Payback Time.
And the idea of drafting acting Speaker Pro Tem Patrick McHenry into involuntary service as a Rent-a-Speaker still lurks in the background. See Mike Kelly's plan to elevate Patrick McHenry could be next in House Republicans' speaker drama | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Per Punchbowl News (behind a paywall), the schedule for next week calls for a “candidate forum” on Monday, a “closed” vote of the GOP caucus on Tuesday, and a floor vote of all House members on Tuesday afternoon—the 21st day without a Speaker!
The lengthy debacle has crystalized two ugly truths about the hollowed-out shell of the GOP.
First, the inability of Republicans to elect a Speaker is a direct consequence of their election denialism—the “It only counts if I win” mentality. One purpose of a caucus is to allow members to meet behind closed doors, select a candidate, and then emerge as a unified voting bloc. That quaint notion was destroyed when 140 election deniers in the Republican majority were called upon to elect a Speaker. The notable absence of unity in the GOP caucus led to fifteen rounds of voting for Kevin McCarthy. Over the last three weeks, internal GOP caucus votes nominating a candidate for Speaker have been routinely ignored by various factions within the caucus. Rather than supporting the winners of their internal caucus votes, House Republicans have simply refused to recognize the results of their own elections—a trick that Trump taught them in 2020.
Second, House Republicans have used threats of violence as an election tactic in the Speaker’s race. Opponents of Jim Jordan were swamped with threats of violence by Jordan supporters. See CNN, Opinion: What violent threats against the Jim Jordan holdouts tell us about the GOP. Republicans normalized threats of violence against their Democratic opponents in 2016 and thereafter. Some dismissed the violent insurrectionists who attacked US Capitol as “peaceful tourists.” They have now turned their learned behavior of threats of violence against one another. It is a tactic that will be difficult to unlearn.
Despite the likelihood of greater chaos and a lengthy shutdown before this crisis passes, there is reason for hope. Republicans have boxed themselves into a corner with only one way out—a bipartisan coalition between Republicans and Democrats. Republicans will exhaust every other option (including the Rent-a-Speaker option) before reluctantly surrendering to the idea of cooperating with Democrats to keep the government operating. It will happen. It must.
And then . . . all hell will break loose in the 2024 GOP primaries for the House. As in 2020 and 2022, extremist candidates will challenge Republicans who work with Democrats to keep the government open. That internal fighting will create greater opportunity for Democrats to reclaim the House—and to restore a true governing majority to the people’s House.
President Biden hosts a call with foreign leaders regarding Israel's war on Hamas.
On Sunday, President Biden held a joint call with leaders from Canada, the UK, France, Germany, and Italy to discuss Israel’s war on Hamas. The leaders issued a joint statement that said, in part,
The leaders reiterated their support for Israel and its right to defend itself against terrorism and called for adherence to international humanitarian law, including the protection of civilians. The leaders . . . committed to continue coordinating with partners in the region to ensure sustained and safe access to food, water, medical care, and other assistance required to meet humanitarian needs. The leaders committed to continue close diplomatic coordination, including with key partners in the region, to prevent the conflict from spreading, preserve stability in the Middle East, and work toward a political solution and durable peace.
The situation in Israel and Gaza is deteriorating with each passing hour. To the extent we have any insight into what President Biden is doing, he is working behind the scenes with allies (including Israel) to contain the conflict and protect civilians.
A few notes about Trump.
First, the guilty plea of Sidney Powell in the Georgia RICO case has touched a nerve with Trump. Having described Powell as his attorney while Trump was in office, he now claims that she was “never” his attorney. See CNN, After Sidney Powell pleads guilty in Georgia case, Trump claims she was ‘never’ his attorney, despite their past ties.
In his rant, Trump claimed that Powell would have been “conflicted” if she had simultaneously represented Trump and Michael Flynn in his request for a pardon. That brief reference to a “conflict” has caused some commentators to claim that Trump may have granted a “quid pro quo” pardon to Flynn (which would be voidable).
The complicated argument alleging a “quid pro quo” between Sidney Powell and Trump regarding the Flynn pardon is here: See Empty Wheel, Donald Trump Raises Conflict Concerns about His Mike Flynn Pardon. The argument is based on inferences and a bit difficult to follow, but the DOJ has recently argued that granting a pardon on a “quid pro quo” basis would vitiate presidential immunity. Curiouser and curiouser!
Second, the lawsuit brought in Colorado state court seeking to remove Trump from the ballot will proceed to trial, possibly in late October. See Business Insider, Colorado Case Could Keep Donald Trump Off 2024 Presidential Ballot. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) brought suit claiming that Trump is disqualified under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment from holding federal office for engaging in insurrection on January 6 (after having taken an oath to uphold the Constitution).
The Colorado case will be the first serious effort to litigate the Section 3 claim against Trump. As previously explained by Professor Laurence Tribe,
Colorado “is a special place” because “unlike many other states, Colorado has a specific statute which allows registered voters to take the secretary of state to court and demand that the secretary of state exclude anyone who doesn’t meet all of the qualifications, even at the primary stage.”
The issue will likely be decided by the US Supreme Court, but the fact that Colorado is proceeding apace is good news for the final resolution of the Section 3 claim on the merits. Stay tuned!
Concluding Thoughts.
I have spoken to and heard from dozens of readers over the weekend. Many are overwhelmed by the news out of the Middle East and are reluctant to engage with the news. That is understandable. If you need emotional distance, take it. But somehow, we must find the will to continue the work of defending democracy at home. As an observation—and not a criticism (at this time)—it is no coincidence that the enemies of Israel and Ukraine chose to attack at moments when they believed that the governments of Israel, Ukraine, and the US were weakened by internal strife and political instability.
For the good of both domestic and international stability, a healthy US democracy matters. We may feel powerless to affect the broad sweep of events on the global stage. But we can affect those events—by convincing voters to show up at the polls in 2023 and 2024. Action is the antidote to anxiety. In this instance, that action may also be the antidote to global strife.
Take a breath and then—if you can—focus on changing the outcome in local, state, and federal elections. We can do that. We have done it before. We can do it again.

Soooo I have a question that’s been buggin me for a bit, why does Emmer have a fish tail but Wife Ingo have regular legs, we’re they like separated at birth or something? Wife Ingo just looks so annoyed by Emmer in some of your art, like does Wifey not really like Emmer or did something happen between them before the DD au? Also if Wifey is half fish is that why he’s seen being able to breathe under water?
Hi anon! Thanks for the question
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So! there are different Mermaid Emmet AUs that exist actually - I know unovanhunny has an Emmer AU. I was actually inspired by Ku’s AU, but just imagined my own concepts for my own fun. To distinguish them, Ku’s AU is definitely Emmer AU. My AU is Mermmet AU.
Secondly, eheh, this AU was conceived as a horny Dead Dove AU. I thought of it around the same time @belltrigger thought of their DDAU - we shared the ideas with each other at around the same time, and they have become sort of linked in a way since then. Finally culminating in the Death Train AU (where Ingos and Emmets go to reincarnate.)
((A bonus! I’ve commissioned Belltrigger to write a horny story for them :weary: ! It’s still in the works but i’m really excited! Plus it is basically the beginning of Mermmet and Wife Ingo’s story. Do not read forward if you want to wait for Suoh’s story instead.))
I still think of writing a whole run down of Mermmet AU, I have a skeleton of one in my drafts, but I will real quick answer your questions below
_
CW: Non con, Dub con, forced pregnancy, oviposition, No escape
Now we have explanations in our none brother AUs why they look like each other (reincarnated, copying their form). In Mermmet AU it’s just a coincidence. If we want to think of it on the Death Train AU level of existence, they’re an AU that’s quite far from the center of Submas AUs. They’re still Ingo and Emmet, but with so many variables have been changed.
Next, Wife Ingo in the base AU itself was kidnapped by Mermmet and made to be his Wife. Mermmet’s reasoning was that Wife Ingo was quite miserable in his life, and Mermmet can totally provide a better life for Wife Ingo.
They experience a lot of miscommunication, and Mermmet has a lot of instinct differences compared to a human, and to Mermmet, he really has to and wants to mate with his wife. Ingo, on the other hand, does not really want to be kidnapped and made into a broodmother. -Ah, but they have nonstop mindblowing sex for the rest of their lives.
I tend to make my Ingo be pretty asexual, with varying degrees of comfort with sex. As well as varying levels of libido. ((And they’re all just interested in Emmet so he doesn’t think about it too much.)) Wife Ingo has generally low libido and low interest. And he has a whole struggle of feeling only like a sex object and incubator for the rest of his life.
Mermmet in this AU is a himbo, really. He loves Wife Ingo quite innocently. He’s not a mean Emmet by any means. But also he’s obtuse, a bit ignorant, and not a very good listener. So he doesn’t understand that Wife Ingo does not want to be forced into being a Wife.
Since they live a long life, Wife Ingo sort of makes peace with it. He never is truly happy, but he has a complex love for Mermmet. He sees that Mermmet loves him very genuinely, and Ingo has tolerated what his life has become because of that.
Also the reason why Ingo is able to survive underwater is that he’s wearing magical charmed jewelry that Mermmet got from a magical dealsmaker (sorta like ursula from the little mermaid).

Politician or Gun-Influencer? A guessing-game brought to you by literally every Republican social-media account
Tumblr media
People are shocked about the attack on Paul Pelosi and wonder how it could get this far. But honestly, after a bit of research I am merely surprised that it only happened now and not earlier. You only need to take one look at the social media accounts of Republican politicians, and you have your answer.
On the 26th of October 2022, only two days before the attack on Paul Pelosi, Tom Emmer, the U.S. Representative from Minnesota's 6th Congressional District, posted a tweet. The tweet which you can see at the beginning of this post.
Yes, I am as disgusted as you right now, but it gets even worse. When asked during an Interview he said it “wasn’t an ad” and continued with shifting the blame by saying that nobody asked democrat Politicians when Sanders-Supporter Hodgkinson opened fire on Republican lawmakers. Are you seeing a valid argument and answer to the interviewer’s question here? Yah, me neither.
But Emmer is not the only one posting ads with guns used against Pelosi’s work. US House Candidate Mike Collins shoots and then sets fire to a stack of papers titled “Nancy Pelosi’s plans for America” whilst playing recordings of her in the background. Tagged with #SaveAmerica.
US Senate candidate Blake Masters has a weekly post in which he shows his gun collection, tagging the products and says that the highly dangerous ‘ghost guns’ are “very legal & very cool” and that he recently built some himself. You ever asked yourself what becomes of the people from high school who thought that bullying is cool? Here you have your answer!
According to the NYT over 100 TV ads featured a gun this year.
Seems like the Republican views on what “cool” means, are just as upside down as Emmer in his Zoom call. Maybe a person who is too old use a simple Computer program shouldn’t use a gun and certainly not be a politician!

Foods that Inflame the Thyroid

STOP INFLAMING YOUR THYROID WITH THESE 4 FOODS
September 30, 2020 in Nutrition, Women’s Health 0
“What should I eat now that I have this diagnosis?” This is a question I hear all the time, from people who are either dealing with hormone imbalances, thyroid disorders, or autoimmune diseases like Hashimoto’s. While there is no concrete answer to this question (and believe me, I wish there were!), I want to empower you to make the best choices you can make for your body and your health. Let me first say that food is a personal thing. What works for one person may not work for someone else. The best advice I can give is that you listen to your body. This involves finding what makes you feel good and getting rid of the things that don’t! But to help you get started, I want to highlight a few foods that are known to especially affect people with thyroid dysfunction and give you alternatives to help you take ownership of what is going into your body.
#1 – GLUTEN
This is the number one culprit when it comes to thyroid disorders. Gluten is found in the grains wheat, rye, spelt, barley, and triticale (a wheat-rye hybrid), as well as wheat variations like wheatberries, durum, emmer, semolina, farina, farro, graham, and other derivatives. These grains contain a protein called gliadin that your body can easily mistake for a thyroid molecule. If your gut is irritated and inflamed because of sensitivity to gluten or stress, the gliadin protein is able to enter right into your bloodstream. Then, your immune system mistakenly identifies gliadin as an intruder and attacks it by producing antibodies to gliadin. Once these antibodies are formed, they can attack your thyroid gland, essentially compounding the effects of Hashimoto’s and hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid, meaning you don’t have enough thyroid hormone). (1) Even if it doesn’t get to that point, the inflammation caused by gluten (if you have a sensitivity) can really disrupt the homeostasis between your gut, brain, and thyroid, which causes imbalance and affects your metabolism, energy, brain health, and more. (2) Alternatives: It takes a good 6-8 weeks to completely begin the healing process from gluten issues. Unfortunately, one bite of gluten can set you back to square one. When you go gluten-free, do it hardcore. A whole-foods diet rich with grass-fed animal protein and lots of veggies is your best option. This way, you don’t even have to worry about reading labels If you do venture into the processed realm, be sure to stick with items that have a few identifiable ingredients. And don’t run the risk of cross-contamination. You’ll also need to be ready to ask questions when you go out to eat. Gluten can lurk in salad dressings, marinades, and spice blends. If you are able to tolerate grains, try using brown rice, quinoa, gluten-free oats, or other nutrient-dense foods. Watch out for foods that are labeled “gluten-free” because many of them compensate for the lack of gluten with lots of added sugars and starches that will continue to cause inflammation in your body. You also want to watch out for foods processed in a factory that also handles wheat. Finding alternatives rather than direct replacements is your best bet here. For example, try your favorite pasta dishes on spaghetti squash or other spiralized vegetables instead of gluten-free pasta.
#2 – DAIRY
Many people who are sensitive to gluten are also sensitive to dairy. A study found that 75% of patients with Hashimoto’s were also lactose intolerant. It showed that removing dairy helped balance out their thyroid hormone levels. (3) Dairy can cause more inflammation and makes your body’s pH more acidic, which throws off your thyroid by keeping you from absorbing all the nutrients it needs to thrive. (4, 5) Alternatives: You can use nut milks like coconut, almond, and cashew in place of dairy in most daily uses. Many stores also carry cheeses and yogurts made from these milks. Just read labels to make sure there are no unwanted extra ingredients! Worried about not getting enough calcium without milk? Leafy greens, seeds, and vegetables are full of calcium and other nutrients your body needs to thrive. And the non-dairy alternatives listed above often have a healthy dose of calcium as well. Supplements are also a great option for upping your calcium quotient, and these may be a more bioavailable option than cow’s milk anyway!
#3 – PROCESSED SUGAR AND SUGAR SUBSTITUTES
It is critical that you keep an even blood sugar level to protect your thyroid. Spikes and dips in your blood sugar can make your body feel stressed. This causes cortisol to be released from your adrenal glands. This cortisol slows down your thyroid’s function and can trigger issues with hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s. (6) Sugar, starchy foods, and carbohydrates all can cause your body to enter this cycle of stress, so it is best to limit them. Artificial sweeteners like aspartame (Equal) and sucralose (Splenda) raise your risk of getting Hashimoto’s because of their effect on TSH levels. A recent study looked at people who consumed artificial sweeteners and had a recent Hashimoto’s diagnosis. The study found that removing these sweeteners caused the subjects to reverse their symptoms and lower their antibody levels. (7)  There is no health benefit to artificial sweeteners, so there is no reason to put them in your body. Alternatives: Cutting sugar out of your diet can be like quitting an addiction. I know it is hard, but it is so worth it. Here are some resources I put together to help you break up with sugar! An alternative I use is stevia because it is natural, plant-based, and will not affect your system like other sweeteners.  Just watch that you don’t overdo the natural sugars like fructose found in fruits!
#4 – CAFFEINE
I know, I know. I love coffee, too! And you don’t want me to mess with your coffee. But hear me out first before you make the decision for yourself… While coffee has been found to have multiple health benefits (8), it is also a known stress-enhancer. (9) So what does this mean? Basically, caffeine is not the problem — your stress is. If you are already feeling stressed (which is a root cause for so many of our thyroid problems), that daily coffee is probably making it worse. When you are stressed and are releasing cortisol into your system, your thyroid function is lowered by your pituitary gland because it is in survival mode. Coffee will just amplify the effects of the cortisol in your system.
Side Note: In some Instances Soy and Soy based Products are also deemed a problem.
Soy has been a topic of debate when it comes to thyroid health. Let’s explore the reasons behind the controversy:
Historical Beliefs:
In the past, soy was classified as a goitrogen, a category of foods that could potentially alter thyroid hormone production and cause the thyroid gland to enlarge (goiter).
Laboratory and animal studies suggested that soy isoflavones might:
Prevent the action of thyroid hormones, leading to hypothyroidism (low thyroid function).
Reduce the absorption of thyroid medications from the intestines.
Stimulate thyroid growth, potentially causing a goiter.
Trigger autoimmune thyroid disease.
Human Studies:
Contrary to animal and laboratory findings, human studies have not consistently shown the same results.
A 2019 meta-analysis of 18 clinical trials found that soy has no significant effect on overall thyroid function.
While soy supplementation was linked to a slight rise in thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels, it did not have clinical significance.
A 2022 review of 417 studies confirmed that soy isoflavones do not negatively impact thyroid function or hormone levels.
Current Understanding:
Soy’s reputation as an endocrine disruptor is not well-supported by current research.
Isoflavones in soy do not significantly affect thyroid function in humans.
However, excessive consumption of soy products may still be problematic for some individuals.
Iodine Interaction:
Soy may alter thyroid function in people who are iodine deficient.
If you have adequate iodine levels, moderate soy consumption is unlikely to harm your thyroid.
In summary, while soy does not directly harm the thyroid, individuals with thyroid conditions should be mindful of their soy intake and consult with a healthcare provider if they have concerns

Do you have any advice on writing FFXIV dialogue to sound in universe? I get nervous trying to write for characters in game, but the vernacular does not come naturally despite playing the game for years dkhgf
If you don't feel like the vernacular comes naturally, there are a few things you can do to get more comfortable with it. One thing is just rewatching cutscenes - voiced cutscenes - with your chosen character, and paying careful attention to how they speak. I specify voiced cutscenes because for me, actually HEARING speech is crucial for internalizing a character's "voice." Obviously, paying attention to written dialogue is important too, but I'd start with listening.
Another thing I often do when I feel stuck is use the "translate" method. What do you want the character to say? Write it how you personally would say it. Then, run it through an internal "NPC translator." What might you need to change or adjust? Are there certain words they would use instead of what you chose? Maybe they're way more verbose than you are - or less! Are they super formal? Do they have a particular accent? How might you need to communicate that accent in your writing?
That's sort of a long-winded explanation, but this is probably my best advice when it comes to writing dialogue that fits the setting but that still feels/sounds/reads natural. Start with communicating the message - core dialogue - then translate. This is much better than staring at blank pages because you can't think of what words to use from the get-go.
For certain NPCs, this process will be more complex than others (coughs Urianger). However, no matter what I think it helps to think of it this way, especially if you feel stuck.
Thank you so much for asking, I appreciate you thinking of me as a resource :) I hope this helps!

△ for Sharru. What’s the worst thing your parent has done to you?
Thank you!
Doesn't want to answer: 1/10 he'd love to safely talk to someone about this.
Without hesitation, Sharru replies, "Taking Emmer away from me. I mean - forcing it to leave. It... I know it was their decision, but I always - it lost everything, purely because it got too involved with me. And I missed it. I missed it so much."

House Republican Criticizes Biden Administration's Actions Against Bitcoin Miners
Tumblr media
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer is speaking out against the Biden administration for targeting bitcoin miners 🛑. Emmer is concerned about the administration's emergency request for 82 bitcoin mining firms to share energy consumption data, citing potential abuse of power 🚫. He argues that the request, which carries penalties for non-compliance, is overreach and could harm the industry's innovation.
The Energy Department's analytical agency has justified the request by citing environmental concerns and the need to analyze energy implications of crypto mining. Emmer believes this move could be part of a broader agenda to push anti-energy and anti-crypto narratives, potentially impacting the industry's growth and development. The debate highlights tensions between regulators and the cryptocurrency sector, with critics questioning the government's approach to regulation and its impact on industry players.
In response to the administration's actions, Emmer is demanding answers from the Office of Management and Budget, raising concerns about potential misuse of emergency powers. The clash underscores the challenges facing the cryptocurrency industry as it navigates regulatory uncertainties and political opposition. Emmer's pushback reflects the need for a balanced regulatory framework that supports innovation while addressing environmental and energy concerns.

..."Have you noticed the rush of House Republicans calling it quits in the last few weeks?
Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) announced his exit Nov. 1. He explained that to be a member of the Republican House majority means putting up with  the “many Republican leaders [who] are lying to America, claiming that the 2020 election was stolen.”
Buck is predicting that even more House Republicans will leave “in the near future.”
The day before Buck said good-bye, House Appropriations Chair Kay Granger (R-Texas) also quit. Granger had been a leader among House Republicans who prevented the far-right, election-denying Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) from becoming Speaker of the House.
Also in October, Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-Ariz.) said she was quitting. “Right now, Washington, D.C. is broken,” she said. “It is hard to get anything done.”
In late September, Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-Ind.) took the exit game to a new level of drama by threatening to leave immediately instead of waiting on a previously announced retirement. “The Republican House is failing the American people again,” she said in February, explaining that the House is now “like a theater full of actors in the circus.” She summed up her distaste by saying “our children will be ashamed of another worthless Congress.”
This rush of Republicans abandoning the House is tied to former president Trump’s large lead in the GOP presidential primary race.
Every Republican still in the House next year will be forced to run for reelection while possibly supporting a convicted felon at the head the GOP ticket. They will also have to say they believe the lie that the 2020 election was stolen.
The scary depth of this trap awaiting House Republicans next year was evident in the bloody fight that led them to shut down the House for three weeks before they could agree on a replacement for ousted Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
Despite the majority of the caucus expressing disgust with the extremist Republicans who pushed out McCarthy, they replaced McCarthy with another election-denier, Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.).
Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) recently described the House Republican caucus as wanting former President Trump as speaker. In Johnson, she said, “they got their man.”
In fact, Trump sent signals that he did not want a more pragmatic conservative, Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), to become Speaker for one reason: Emmer had said that President Biden defeated Trump in a fair election.
Trump’s hypnotic hold on Republicans in the House was evident when Rep. Steve Scalise (R- La.) was recently asked if Trump lost the 2020 election.
“Can you say unequivocally the 2020 election was not stolen,” asked ABC’s George Stephanopoulos. Scalise refused to answer even when Stephanopoulos cited several court rulings that confirmed there is no evidence of widespread vote fraud.
“Thanks for your time,” Stephanopoulos finally said, abruptly bringing the fruitless interview to an end. It was reflective of the dead-end mindset that now defines the GOP-led House".

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Gary Gensler has found himself under intense scrutiny after failing to answer simple questions by lawmakers in a high-stakes crypto showdown before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Financial Services Wednesday. During the hearing, he faced a barrage of questions from lawmakers, but it was an exchange with Representative Ritchie Torres from the Bronx that has drawn significant attention. At the heart of the matter was the term “investment contract,” a critical element in determining the SEC’s authority over the cryptocurrency space. Torres pressed Gensler on whether an investment contract necessitates an actual contract, leading to Gensler’s conspicuous struggle to provide clear and concise answers. His evasive responses during the hearing raised eyebrows and invited criticism. Ripple’s Chief Legal Officer Weighs In Commenting on the occurrence Stuart Alderoty, Chief Legal Officer at Ripple, blasted the SEC Chair for evading questions with an air of smugness and even made light of his wealth. “For hours, Mr. Gensler smugly evaded question after question (even laughing about how rich he is) until Rep. Torres took him out with a command of the law and a touch of South Bronx Street sense. Gensler didn’t know what hit him until it was too late.” Said Alderoty. Emmer’s Accusations In the hearings, representative Tom Emmer also took Gensler to task during the hearing. He accused the SEC chair of launching an assault on the cryptocurrency industry and questioned Gensler’s impartiality as a regulator. Emmer went on to express concerns about Gensler’s approach, stating, “Mr. Gensler, despite your years of rhetoric like today, I’m convinced you’re not an impartial regulator. Instead, it’s clear you’re working to consolidate your own power, even though it means crushing opportunities for everyday Americans and, frankly, the financial future of this country.” Emmer further accused Gensler of favoring large financial institutions at the expense of innovation, competition, and the average American. Gensler’s Stance on Regulatory Oversight Notably, in his address to the House Financial Services, Gensler firmly asserted that there are no aspects of the crypto asset securities markets that should exempt investors and issuers from the protective umbrella of securities laws. Gensler also reiterated his dedication to ensuring the welfare of American investors, once again stating that “this is a field rife with fraud and manipulation and I’m looking out for American investors who’ve been hurt fraudsters and scammers” Source

US congressmen threatened to sue the SEC chairman
Tumblr media
The head of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Gary Gensler spoke before the House of Representatives, facing harsh criticism from members of Congress. The Block reports this. Politicians asked the official about the SEC's policy regarding digital assets and clarified the timing of approval of the Bitcoin ETF. Financial Services Committee Chairman Patrick McHenry began by asking whether Bitcoin is a security. The head of the Commission responded that the first cryptocurrency is not considered as such because it does not meet the Howey test. Gensler previously stated that all digital assets, with the exception of Bitcoin, can be classified as securities. McHenry also threatened the official with a subpoena for his “lack of transparency” with other departments and alleged ties to the collapsed FTX and its ex-CEO Sam Bankman-Fried. “Either we find a path forward in which the SEC recognizes Congress as a co-equal branch of government and begins to respond to our comments, or my only option is to file a lawsuit,” the House member said. Republican Tom Emmer criticized Gary Gensler for his “mocking” approach to regulating the cryptocurrency industry. In his opinion, the department prefers to consolidate power in its own hands instead of thinking about ordinary Americans and the future of the country. The SEC Chairman again reiterated his position that most digital assets and crypto firms are subject to federal securities laws. He also added that the industry is generally non-compliant and riddled with conflict. Congressman Ritchie Torres asked Gensler whether purchasing Pokemon trading cards could constitute a secured transaction and therefore be subject to securities laws. The opponent answered negatively. Torres then asked how a similar transaction made through the blockchain would be classified. The head of the Commission thought about it and asked for more input. Members of Congress were also unhappy with the delay of the spot Bitcoin ETF. Ahead of the hearing, the SEC postponed its decision on exchange-traded funds based on the first cryptocurrency and Ethereum. Recall that in August, member of the House of Representatives Warren Davidson called for Gensler to be removed from his post as head of the department due to unsuccessful proceedings against Grayscale. It was preceded by the partial defeat of the regulator in the process against Ripple. Later, the media accused the SEC chairman of turning the agency into a “banana republic.” Read the full article
