frostbound
---
It was a cold and bristly evening. Heavy flakes of snow hit the windowpanes before falling to the ground to join their companions, forming thick snowbanks, and covering the beautiful grounds of Redmont in luscious white clouds.
It was a truly wonderful time of the year.
To be inside where it's warm.
Cold weather had always agreed with Alyss, the hot sweaty environment that the summer offered was just too miserable to the courier. She preferred being comfortable in a warm cloak than sweating in the unrevealing clothing that her gender was expected to adorn.
Thankfully, during the summer months. She was usually at home with her husband; where she could wear whatever the hell she wanted with no commentary from him. Well, no insulting commentary anyway. But Will Treaty had an excellent command of the Araluen language and knew exactly how to use it to stimulate a reaction from his beautiful wife.
And that usually went exactly as planned.
But today, it was below freezing. So Alyss covered as much of her skin as possible, and then more on top of that. She felt like a ball of cloth, but she was warm. There's no fashion in the winter months anyway, sacrifices were made for comfort and no one gave two shits about it.
It just meant that at the end of a long workday, you had to put all of those layers back on, and then ride home. And although the ride was short-- just under half an hour, it felt like days when you were shivering beneath your coats and scarves, all your energy being forcefully sucked into the unproductive shivering that your body insists on subjecting you to.
Alyss stared out the massive window in her office, watching the snow fall, dreading what came next on her schedule and contemplating staying at the castle tonight. Will would presume that's what she was doing when she wasn't home within the hour, it wasn't uncommon for one of them to stay at Redmont when they had a late night, when the ride to the cabin seemed too tiresome.
They didn't like to do that though, neither of them slept as well without the other anymore, although the mutual dependency conflicted with their jobs. But that's how it was. Alyss felt safer with Will beside her, and Will slept more peacefully with Alyss beside him. Without either of those things, it wasn't the same.
That's why Alyss truly didn't want to not go home tonight, but the ride through the deepening snow seemed too detrimental. And who knows, maybe it would be too deep to ride through in the morning, and the project she was working on at the moment couldn't be postponed.
She would stay at Redmont for the night, Will would understand. Not that she ever doubted he would.
She could ask Arald for a guest suite, he would of course give it to her free of charge, he tended to spoil her like that; the advantages of being the Baron's surrogate daughter, she thought with an interior smile.
But it was already 8:30. She didn't want to bother the Baron. The next option was quite obvious.
She knocked on Halt and Pauline's door, patiently waiting for one of them to answer.
The door swung open with a creak, and revealed a very cheery-looking Pauline, "hello!" she cried, "come in dear, what a pleasant surprise."
Alyss stepped inside, her gratitude evident as she addressed Pauline, "I'm sorry for the impromptu visit. Would it be possible for me to stay here tonight? The snow is looking rather—" Her words trailed off as she locked eyes with her husband, who was seated on the couch with a mischievous grin
He stood as Alyss entered, playfulness dancing in his eyes. "Looks like we had the same idea."
Alyss suppressed the urge to reciprocate a smile.
"It looks like we did."
He took the bag from her hands, placing a gentle kiss on her cheek as he did so.
"Far too cold to endure horseback in this weather, hmm?"
"Mmhmm" she nodded at him, her eyes gleaming with a mixture of amusement and suspicion.
"You were meant to be working from home today, Will," she quipped.
Will looked back over at her, feigning confusion, "Was I?"
Alyss nodded back at him. A knowing glance passing between them.
Will shook his head, "Must have slipped my mind as I rode over," he responded with a wink as he crashed back on the couch with an air of nonchalance.
Alyss shook her head, exchanging a look with Halt that conveyed a shared exasperation.
"He follows you like a lost puppy, have you noticed that?" Halt remarked dryly, his voice laced with amusement.
Alyss chuckled, her gaze shifting back to Will.
"He does indeed." She agreed, slipping off her winter cloak. Will's casual demeanor couldn't hide the truth—his devotion to her was apparent in every glance and gesture.
She settled on the couch next to her husband, curling into his side naturally.
"But I wouldn't have it any other way."

Hello! Requesting a trick featuring gilan please :D
Sorry it took a while. Here you go:
Gilan hugged Blaze close to him, burying his face and sobbing into the horse's neck. Blaze’s large, intelligent, kind eyes moved to look at her mentor, trying not to move too much.
Gilan moved away from Blaze’s warm coat and wiped the back of his hand across his face, leaving dirt smeared there. Gathering up his courage he moved to Blaze’s side, where a large gash, blood pouring out of it, was located.
Gilan had been fighting an enemy armed with a long wooden spear, intent on catching the man and bringing him to the castle for proper trial. The trial would almost certainly end in the man being hung. Gilan’s bow had been snapped from an earlier surprise encounter with the man in the woods, so Gilan had to get close enough to the man to get a good throw with his throwing knife or to get within sword range. The only problem with that was that once Gilan was in sword range, the man would have already been well into spear range, and Gilan would be skewered like a kebab most likely. If he used his throwing knife, he would only get one shot. If he missed, the knife would be lost in the grass.
In the end he decided to just wing it, thinking about it too hard would just distract him and then he would be dead.
The man’s spear had barely missed Gilan multiple times, but on one of those times, it had hit Blaze instead, scraping deep into his skin, and releasing a flow of blood that trickled out like a waterfall.
Fuck it, Gilan had thought, and as Blaze fell to the ground he kicked his feet out of the saddle, jumped out and just happened to land almost directly onto the spear crazy man. While landing, he got a two-handed grip and stabbed into the man's heart. The spear narrowly avoided jabbing into his eye and left a cut right next to it.
Now Gilan was desperately trying to stop the rush of blood red blood. He removed his cloak and bunched it up, placing it on the wound and pressing hard to try and stop the bleeding. Blaze winced at the pressure and Gilan immediately started making soothing noises, one hand moving to gently stroke her neck while the other kept firm on the cloak.
Gilan wished that he wasn’t so stupid. He had left his bloody first aid kit back at the camp, being in too much of a rush to grab it. He regretted that rush with every inch of his being. With a sudden feeling of dread, he noticed Blaze’s breath was slowing.
‘God, no no no no!’ Gilan said to himself desperately as he pressed down harder on the wound. But it was too late, and he knew it. Blaze had already lost too much blood and it didn’t matter anymore if he could stop it now. She was as good as dead.
Gilan moved back to Blaze’s head and hugged his neck, once again burying his face in her neck. Sobs racked his body and he cried hard, but quietly.
A short moment later the breaths stopped.
Hope it was angsty enough for you. Hope you enjoyed it.

Hi love? Can I request a fluffy fic? Alyss is in labor with her and Will's first child, but ofcourse, nothing goes as planned. Despite that, there is lots of love and the thing becomes an intimate affair for the couple.
Curious to how you're gonna write it!
Here it is! The beginning is kinda angsty? But it gets fluffy at the end, I promise!
A Fathers love:
Words: 17.3 K
Trigger warnings: depiction of labour/childbirth, some agnst/ feelings of insecurity?
“Will.” the voice that had soothed so many fears cut through the haze that clouded Will's mind. But Will’s mind, accustomed to facing whatever danger came for him, was racing, careening around, searching desperately for a solution he couldn’t find, had finally found a problem he couldn’t solve, a danger he couldn’t face.
“Will. Look at me.” With a start Will dragged his mind back from the whirlpool it had fallen into. Halt was crouched in front of him, weathered hands steady on his cheeks. His dark eyes searched Will’s face.
“ Halt.” Will whispered.
“The one and only.” Halt deadpanned. Will sighed, dropping his head against Halt’s chest. He closed his eyes.
“Will.” Halt’s hands gently pushed his head back up.
“ Will,  look at me.“ Halt said firmly.
“She sent me out here.” Will’s voice was a whisper, nearly lost to the wind as it shrieked around the cabin. Halt furrowed his brow.
“Will. Talk to me.” Will took a ragged breath, hands clenched into fists.
“ She said I wasn’t helping her, that my hovering was stressing her out, and she needed me to pull myself together. I didn’t know what to expect. No one told me what to expect. But Halt, there was so much blood-” Will’s voice broke on the last word. Halt sighed. He sat beside the young man he had come to consider his son.
“ Alyss didn’t mean it Will. She’s going through a lot right now.”
“And I should be there” Will broke in, leaping to his feet. Halt opened his mouth  to respond when a hoarse cry split the air. Will blanched, stumbling backwards. His fists shook as he pressed one to his mouth. Halt followed his former apprentice’s steps, dropping a hand to Will’s shoulder, pulling him into his embrace. Will stiffened for a second before he relaxed, clenching Halt’s cloak in his fist.
“ Will. “Halt soothed, brushing Will’s unruly hair away from his face.
‘ I don’t know what to do.” Will whispered.
“ Alyss needs you. Whatever you do after that, doesn't matter because she needs you right now. Your wife needs you, Will.”
“I don’t-” Will’s voice broke, before he continued.
“ I don’t know how to be a father.” And Halt understood Will’s fear then.
“Will.” He started, but Will shook his head, burying his face deeper into Halt’s  chest.
“ I’ve never had a father. I don’t know what babies need, or how to communicate with them. What if I do something wrong? I don’t know how to be a father.” Will trailed off, closing his eyes.
“ Will. No one knows what they're doing, even if they had the best example of parenthood. Fate may have dealt you a cruel hand, but you have all the aspects of a good father.” Will lifted his head to meet Halt’s gaze.
“Really? “ He asked.  Halt smiled at the young man who felt so much like his son.
“ Yes, Will. You are kind, and understanding, and fair but you hold your boundaries and don’t let people walk all over you. You are the kind of person I wish my father was.”
Will smiled then, brilliant and bold. He threw his arms around Halt, crushing the older man. Before Halt could react Will had turned and leaped up the steps to the cabin. Halt chuckled to himself, before settling himself down on the verandah. He might be there a while. But he’d wait. This was worth the wait.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Will stepped through the door of the cabin, eyes falling on his wife, smiling softly at her. Alyss was covered in a sheen of sweat, and her long hair, normally coiled tightly at the top of her head, was down, in a loose braid. Will thought she had never looked more beautiful. The midwife was sitting beside the fire and looked like she preferred it when Will was kicked out. Pauline, sitting on Alyss’ other side, crowded between the bed and the wall, smiled warmly at him.
“ Hello, love.” He greeted, crossing over to her. He bent down  and pressed his lips to her forehead. Alyss studied her husband carefully, resting her hand on his cheek.
“ Are you okay? “ She asked. He smiled again, resting his cheek on top of her head.
“ Yeah, I’m alright. Halt talked to me.” Something warm spread in Alyss’ grey eyes and she nodded, smiling back at him.
“ I’m glad” Alyss whispered, reaching her hand out to Will. He took it, kissing her hand fervently.
“I’m sorry, my love.” Will murmured. Alyss shook her head, squeezing his hand gently.
“ Don’t be. You needed Halt, and I need you fully here. If taking a moment with your father is what you needed then I’m glad you took it.” Will looked sharply at her, opened his mouth to argue but Alyss tightened her grip on Will’s hand and keened softly. The midwife looked up, and moved swiftly to the bedside, glaring at Will. He glared back. The midwife faltered then returned to Alyss’ side. She rested a weathered hand on her stomach, feeling the contraction tighten the muscles. She nodded encouragingly at Alyss.
“ Won’t be long now. Baby’s eager to meet you, that’s for sure” Will smoothed Alyss’ hair back, speaking encouragingly to her.
“ You're doing wonderful Alyss. So good, my brave girl. I’m so proud of you” She panted, trying to grin but it came out lopsided.
“Stay with me” She murmured, feeling her muscles relax and tried to do the same. Will smiled at her, resting his weight on the bed as he leaned over and kissed her.
“ Nowhere I’d rather be, my love.”
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Two hours later, Will was still holding Alyss’ hand, encouraging her with gentle words, soothing her pain to the best of his abilities, always ready with a smile and a soft “ One step closer to meeting our babe, my love” when the contraction eased. Alyss was moaning softly, panting when she looked at Will, misery haunting her grey eyes.
“ I can’t do this anymore.” she gasped, tensing as another contraction loosened it’s hold on her.
“Yes, you can. You’re strong, Alyss, stronger than anyone here.” Will soothed. He gestured for Pauline to take over and stepped quickly to the bottom of the bed, speaking hurriedly with the midwife in hushed tones. Whatever he said she didn’t like, but she conceded with a scowl. Will reached up and gently guided her hand down between her legs, letting her fingers brush gently against the baby's head, not born yet but close enough to touch. Alyss gasped, again, determination hardening her features.
“ I can feel them.” She whispered softly, smiling tumultuously at Will.
“ I know. Your so close, Lyss. Not long now, I promise.” Alyss nodded, reaching her hand, covered in blood and birth fluids to Will. He didn’t hesitate to hold her hand, smiling and she took a deep breath, feeling another contraction take hold of her.
“ Good girl” Will murmured, brown eyes locked on Alyss’ grey ones. Alyss cried out, nails digging into Will’s hand. She drew strength in her husband's calm and solid presence by her side, feeling pain coursing through her like wildfire, climbing, climbing,  climbing further past anything she had ever felt, before it extinguished with a sharp relief. Alyss collapsed back against the bed, hair plastered to her skin. Will was staring at the midwife, slack jawed and smiling. Alyss slowly regained her senses, hearing the sharp cry of a new baby discovering they lived outside their mother for the first time.
“ Alyss.” Will breathed, eyes following the babies every move. She smiled at him, exhausted, covered in sweat, hair plastered to her face, but beautiful. The midwife stepped beside Alyss, carefully laying the small bundle that was her child in her arms. Will crouched beside the bed, gaze riveted on the child in Alyss arms. The baby gazed at the world around them with a somber expression, looking at both their parents, unusually alert.
“ Congratulations, you have a son” The Midwife murmured, backing off to let the couple have a moment with their son.
“ Hello, son.” Will whispered, a finger tracing against the infant's cheek softly. The baby gurgled at his fathers touch, one tiny  hand reaching out from the swaddle to grasp Will’s finger. Alyss and Will beamed at each other. And if Will’s eyes were shining, Alyss didn’t say anything, after all, there were tears in her own eyes.
“ Alyss, you truly are the best of wives and best of women” He whispered, bending down to give her a kiss. She laughed softly, brushing her lips across her son's head.
“ Here. Hold him for a bit.I think my midwife is a bit cross she’s had to wait for you to meet your son” Alyss murmured, smiling lazily at her husband. Will grinned, lifting the babe easily into his arms, standing with a murmured, “ be back soon” walking over to the door.
Halt glanced up as the door opened, squeaking loudly. Will stepped out onto the porch, a tiny bundle cradled protectively in his arms. Halt stood quickly, smiling at the elated smile on his face.
“ Halt, I want you to meet my son. “ He said proudly, as Halt stepped forward, standing shoulder to shoulder with the new father.
“ Will, he’s beautiful.” Halt whispered, weathered fingers tracing softly against the small cheek. Will smiled bigger.
“ Would you like to hold him?” Will asked softly. Halt reached out eagerly.
“ Now then, little one.” Will whispered, “ You're about to meet someone special. After all it’s not everyday you get to meet your grandfather for the first time” Halt’s heart stopped as he cradled the child close.
“ Will,” He whispered, tears blurring his vision.
“ I should have said something sooner.” Will shrugged, eyes riveted on his son.
“But you’ve been my father since I became your apprentice. You are my father, and this boy you're holding is your grandson.”
“ Thank you- Son” Halt whispered, ignoring the break in his voice. He glanced at the man in front of him, his son.
“Does the boy have a name ?” Halt questioned. Will grinned again.
“ He sure does. Daniel Halt, after my two fathers. The one who gave me life, and the one who raised me.” Halt made no effort to stop the tears that streamed down his cheeks. Will leaned softly into Halt’s side, holding his son's fist gently.
“ Thank you son.” Halt whispered, as the three generations watched the sun set into the forest.

modern AU headcanon
Horace, Will and George at least once pulled off the action of coming to school in skirts in solidarity when one of the girls got in trouble for inappropriate attire. Personally, I can see that it would be Jenny, who canonically had a unique style of dress... some overzealous 'educator' once picked up on this and the next day everyone came in furiously coloured skirts in protest.
Gilan, picking up Will from school, joined the action uninvited and made a sensation among the students. He even agreed to a spontaneous photo shoot on the lawn in front of the school.
And Crowley resented that they had not told him beforehand what they were planning.
Halt laughed at being summoned to school by the management. Pauline went instead. There were no more problems.

I wanna write a fanfic where Crowley gets murdered and they can't figure out who did it but then someone starts framing Duncan and messing with Halt by getting him drunk and trying to convince him and trick him into thinking that Duncan killed Crowley.
Halt ends up believing it and tries to kill Duncan in revenge but he gets caught and gets trialed.
