The Four Phantoms In Concert (10/29/22)
AKA the night that I absolutely lost my mind in the best possible way. Long post under the cut. Buckle up.
I arrived at the venue early because my dad (who I somehow dragged along) and I are huge comic book nerds and wanted to check out a local comic store before the show. So we’re taking a shortcut through this dark alleyway next to the theatre to get to the comic store, and who do we walk by but CIARAN SHEEHAN. I froze like a deer in headlights. But he was on his phone and I was shy and a tad starstruck, and so I let him pass by. I kicked myself afterwards. Little did I know what was to come.
We get into the theatre and start to look at the merchandise. I see a mask signed by the four guys and Kaley (!!) and knew I needed to have it. We talked to the woman running the merchandise stand and I casually mention that I’m just a little obsessed with Phantom and tonight is basically a dream come true for me. She says, “I could get your mask personalized for you and you could pick it up at intermission.” I DIED. DEAD. I tried to maintain my cool but I am losing. My. Mind. Again, little did I know what was to come.
The first act of the show was incredible, as expected. John Cudia (one of my favorite Phantoms!!) sang Til I Hear You Sing and I wept. He put a hand up to cover half of his face at the line “I’ll always feel no more than halfway real” and I wept more. All of the guys were incredible. The lights come up for intermission and we book it down to the lobby to get my mask. It has my name on it. Kaley has drawn cute little stars on it. I have ascended from this astral plane. And then the merchandise stand woman says it: “I talked to some people. Since you’re such a big fan of the show, you’re going to get to go the afterparty and meet them all and take pictures with them.”
...WHAT. I am in shock. I am in tears. I thank her profusely and try not to have a heart attack as I go to sit back down for act 2.
Act 2 was even better. Kaley came out for a Phantom medley and I wept. Again. They closed the show with Music of the Night, and I noticed all four of them were subtly doing some hand/arm motions from the actual blocking. It felt like they didn’t even realize they were doing it. Very cool and also not emotional for me At All.
And then. The after-show. I’m only slightly panicking. What do I say to these people? Hi, you shaped my life and I love you? I spoke to Brent Barrett first, who was incredibly kind. And then Kaley!! I had to tell her she was one of my favorite Christines and I was so incredibly excited to be meeting her. She was so gracious and kind. I mention I’ve seen Phantom on tour and she asks if I saw Julia (Udine, I presume.) “No, I saw...” I blank. THE Kaley Ann Voorhees is asking me a Phantom-related question and I have suddenly forgotten everything I know. Eventually I remembered Emma Grimsley and Derrick Davis after what was probably only two seconds but felt like a lifetime. We take a group photo. I thank them all again and stand off to the side, looking at my picture and trying not to lose my mind. I didn’t get the chance to talk to the other three guys, namely John Cudia, and I’m trying not to be bummed by this.
AS IF SENSING THIS SOMEHOW, John Cudia suddenly turns right to me and comes up to talk to me. I somehow manage to get out how much of a fan of his I am, and he asks if I would like a photo of just us two!!
The afterparty was mainly richer people who were sponsors of the show, and my dad and I feel a tad out of place and mostly people-watch at a table by ourselves. I’m feeling like we should probably just go when JOHN CUDIA once again appears and sits down to talk to us again. He remembered me from downstairs and said it was nice to see me again!! He asks if I do theatre myself, and I tell him I have absolutely no talent and but just really love theatre. He tells us a really sweet story about his daughters starting to get into theatre, and then thanks us again for coming.
And that was it! What I thought was just going to be a concert turned into one of the greatest nights ever. Photos below (though I have blurred out my face).

Legendary Gauntlet (Entei/Azelf/Cobalion) - Clears
Alright, I’m calling it quits at 120 wins. I feel decently about this. I mean, I felt really good about it until comparisons kicked in, and I noticed the #4 spot is at like 110 with maybe 200 sync pairs used, and the top spot is at like 154. But I knew this would happen. Still, bad mood today. Not the game’s fault. Anyway! I figured I’d list out my teams, for those interested. I’ll try to avoid commenting on every team, but some had something interesting to talk about.
The structure is Support/Tank, Striker, Tech. I’m not going to list the function of the Eggmon, unless they’re in an odd spot, like a support not being the tank.

Final Thoughts
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Azelf was the most difficult of the three. We have a surprising abundance of Paralysis bots, and plenty of powerful damage dealers to abuse Burn as well if needed, so Cobalion...wasn’t too tough. Entei’s really easy so long as you have a flinch rate, although the later fights really emphasize what a problem Entei’s bulk is when you’re not like...crazy good on your own merits.
Now, I know what you may be thinking. “Crystal, why did you do this? I thought you weren’t going to after last Gauntlet.” Well, a few reasons. One is, 100 wins gets you enough 5* powerup tickets to 20/20 a sync pair. So it’s the goal forever now. The other is, 100 wins isn’t too difficult to achieve at this point for me, what with how many support pairs I’ve accumulated. Some are difficult fights, but we can manage. Lastly...none of these fights suck.
A major issue with Gauntlet is the layout. Latias sucks, because at the second bar, you run into the random bullshit of “oops, all your attacks keep missing despite your best efforts, and the otherwise clean run just tanked for no reason! Sucks to suck!” Moltres has the same issue. Missed a quad queue on May? Burns for everyone. Some of these fights rely so heavily on RNG to carry them forward that they’re intolerable, and the heavily you fall back on needing a flinch rate, the worse the fight. Cobalion, Entei, and Azelf are all pretty fair. They can’t do anything too stupid to you. Cobalion is answered with status and a physical wall. Entei is answered by any level of flinch rate given how weak it is to them. Azelf is answered by the Stalwart/Unbending combo and sleep. So once things got rolling, even when I had to retry, I rarely had to retry repeatedly for optimal RNG shenanigans like I had to do constantly for bitch bird and fuckjet.

With all the Restaged content we’ve been getting I wanted to ask, who’s your favorite Restaged Phantom & Christine?
We all know I can never pick just one, so here are my favorites:
Phantom: Derrick Davis (acting and voice), Victor Wallace (acting and voice), Cooper Grodin (voice), Travis Taylor (voice), Patrick Dunn (voice based on maybe 2 clips lol)
Christine: Julia Udine (acting and voice), Kaitlyn Davis (acting), Emma Grimsley (acting), Celia Hottenstein (voice), Jenna Burns (voice)
I also really loved Katie Travis' voice when she came back for like one show in 2019 lol. But not as much during her principal run.
So essentially, my dream trio would be Derrick Davis, Julia Udine, and Michael Maliakel as Raoul. The acting, the singing, the diversity!
EDIT: I ABSOLUTELY forgot that Australia existed for 5 minutes when I typed this out. So I will add Josh Piterman and Amy Manford to the list as well.

Woke up this morning without a show on the horizon for the first time in 2.5 years.
There is no way to actually sum up such an adventure, but if I’ve done my math right that’s 50 cities. 117 weeks on the road. Who knows how many hours on planes or busses and hundreds of bobby pins lost forever in the patterns of dressing room carpets. 779 performances—483 of those in the female ensemble and 296 of them as Christine. So many wonderful, generous-hearted phans reaching out at stage doors and on Instagram. 14 different hotels, 34 apartments, and 5 stays with beautiful friends (@smills17 @minakullmann @skavon @liselindstrom1 @senor_beto @awildloringappears ). Infinity bruises and tissues and cough drops and tea. 1 on-stage earthquake. 1 show cancelled because it was so impossibly cold. 1 @simon.cross.works to anchor my heart. 1 company—1 phamily full of people so unbelievably dear to me who care and support and love and encourage and tease and laugh and console and celebrate together without a shadow of hesitation and who gave to each other a moveable “home.”

hello! may i ask what poto restaged tour cast members, who have ONLY done the restaged tour, would you like to see doing the roles on broadway/west end? thank you!
I mean, technically I feel like everybody on the restaged tour deserves a shot at the original staging(-ish), but I guess of the ones I'd really like to see, that'd be...
Mark Campbell - He sounded pretty good on audio and he got great reviews from those who saw him live. His run also got cut short for reasons that I'm still unsure of, so it'd be nice for him to have a full run in the original.
Grace Morgan - I've warmed up to her Christine more and more, she had such a sweet interpretation and was particularly good with 'Point of No Return'.
Kaitlyn Davis - Other than Olivia Brereton and Julia Udine, I think Kaitlyn Davis is probably my favorite Christine from the restaged tours. Has a warm, well-trained voice and really did the best she could with the blocking she was given.
Derrick Davis - Probably my favorite of the restaged tour Phantoms. Did all he could to add nuance and vulnerability to the tour's pretty violent portrayal of the Phantom, so I'd love to see what he'd make of the original staging.
Eva Tavares - In my video bootleg of her, she was the one shining light between Quentin Oliver Lee (boring) and Jordan Craig (bad). On her tiny shoulders she carried the entire show. Should get a run in the original just for that.
Emma Grimsley - Impressed me on audio alone with her passionate performance. Would love to see her acting.
Michael Maliakel - According to both my audio and people who saw him, the only good Raoul out of the restaged US tours. Also, representation!
Cooper Grodin - Come on, he deserves another chance.
