Preaching to all people who think some content creator are messaging minor for no reason

aka Twitter/tumblr cross over users.

AhEm... YOUR INTERNET PROVIDER(S) CAN SEE THE THINGS YOU DO WITH YOUR INTERNET AND THAT INCLUDES MESSAGING

(and discord... because you're using the internet to get on there... As hotspots too)

This means if a content creator is messaging a minor in an inappropriate or bullying way (in the UK at least) they would come knocking at you door asking for all your personal information, identification, means of contact and be asking questions.

Has that content creator been arrest yet? Nope.

Is cyber bullying/harassment a crime in the UK?

Yes! Under the laws:

Protection from Harassment Act 1997

Malicious Communications Act 1988

Defamation Act 2017

And can even prevent you from getting jobs in the future of your employment wants to look at your social media! Which is legal! (as in they want to make sure you're not a weirdo or anything! They can't deny you a job based on political stuff or opinions on other companies!)

Is messaging a minor inappropriately a crime?

Yes, there are privacy concerns around Tumblr Live and the data they collect and how they use it.

However, if you own a smartphone (unrooted), use Facebook/Twitter/Whatsapp/Tiktok on your phone, own an Amazon Echo, use Amazon on your phone, use Chrome and/or other Google products, then Tumblr Live isn't any worse than what's already happening to you. They're already collecting and using and selling your data.

Not to say it's okay, it's not, but if you're genuinely concerned about privacy, there are a LOT of other things you need to address. And a lot of them are things YOU can address. No, there aren't alternatives for everything, sometimes you really don't have a choice, but like... nobody needs Tiktok or Chrome. You don't have to check into places via Facebook. You don't need an Echo.

More and more, there's this attitude that it's the companies who need to change how they do things. There's nothing we, as the consumers, can do except complain about it. Wrong. There's plenty you can do, yourself, right now.

Please, please do get more concerned about privacy. And act on that concern. Use Firefox. Get anti-tracking add-ons. Avoid Amazon and Google as much as you can. Get rid of the social media apps. Don't sign into websites using your Google/Apple/Facebook account. Opt out of personalised ads, turn off the web & app activity in your Google account, etc. There's even alternatives to smartphones, and ways to use a smartphone while avoiding (most of) the privacy concerns. There's a lot you can do to safeguard your privacy online. The exact options will vary depending on your specific circumstances, so just look into it.

Yes, it's effort. Yes, it might involve having to learn some new skills. But it's that or waiting for the companies to grow a conscience and stop harvesting and using your data of their own free will. Do yourself a favour and start looking out for yourself.

I came here to complain, got distracted, but now im back to complaining.

usually, I don't complain about things like this when it applies to me. I spread the word of other writers and reblog their posts because they're writers too, however, I usually just delete rude/weird asks and comments and also block the person because it isn't worth it to give that person attention.

Dumbest problem ever

There’s a place in town that’s not so much a sex club as a bar where you can have sex. They have various themed events, including bdsm.

They also have a clothing optional karaoke night, which sounds REALLY fun!

One problem!

My (five years dead) dad and his girlfriend used to go there.

I know this because I liked this place’s fb page and it popped up with the “people you know who liked this” thing. (This was when he was alive and right before I cut off contact, actually, but yes, fb told him I liked the page.)

“But your dad is dead why does it matter”

One, I don’t want to be in that sort of space and thinking about my dead dad.

Secondly, I don’t like his girlfriend. She’s fine as a human being and this is mmmmostly my own issues. But I do have her blocked. But I’ve had her blocked so long I can’t remember her name. But she definitely remembers mine; our last name is not common. (Also my face is a carbon copy of my mom’s.)

And given our handful of interactions I don’t trust her NOT to walk up to me and remind me how we know each other.

UGGGHHHHH.

Watching Hulu and I was just shown an ad for Zola that included quite a few specifics about our wedding. Catching my attention in the first place by saying the date and location. 😳

They know more about the event than anyone (prob including the groom since his memory is trash).
