yeah sure, Elodie wasn't prepared to fight a dragon, she was left to die and that explains her outfit. but I still wonder when girls in fantasy and fairytale movies will stop fighting dragons and other monsters either in uncomfortable dresses or almost naked?
in the scene when she goes back for sister and starts picking up pieces of armor, I was sure she would wear them to protect herself (and that would be very powerful and aesthetic, I mean girls in armor are always cool). but no, she went to the dragon in only a corset and a scrap of skirt. and it looked dumb, not cool.

I’m officially obsessed with Damsel, to the surprise of no one I know. Here’s my girl Elodie. The lighting where the little bioluminescent worms live got my color brain GOING, so I had to draw that shot.

I have a lot of bad things to say about Damsel, but i will never ever get tired of the tropes where women and women adjacent people come together to heal over the pain of the patriarchy.
The dragon represents a type of rage that cannot be quelled and she has lost so much hope in humanity and mankind. That is why even Elodie's father risking his life to save her doesn't phase the dragon. The dragon is the first victim of the patriarchy.
HOWEVER, the queen and dragon also represent how women themselves also uplift the patriarchy and use it to harm other women if it is a benefit to them.
Also, there are more thoughts on motherhood as well, and how one might not be the ideal mother but they try their best.
But all in all, healing from patriarchal violence is a huge theme I see in Damsel.

Plothole in Damsel??
Alright so I just watched the movie Damsel and what got me going was the fantasy setting and world building. But ofc, Plot holes will appear so Here's what i found
DISCLAIMER : I am NOT trying to dunk on the movie, The movie was awesome and Elodie slayed literally soooooooo yeah
So you know that scene where Elodie sees another girl from another turret? and we later found her burnt body in the Dragon Caves? If Elodie was supposed to be Princess Numero Uno, Then how did that girl get in the dragon caves? If she was a princess then she would've been Princess 1, Then what about that girl that was gonna marry Henry? Elodie said that she was Princess 3? Either she forgot about the girl in the caves or the script writers forgor, cuz Henry said that "This is the third one, I swear i'll marry for real " sooo what is that girl's purpose and how did she get in?

Many people say that the central plot of the film is ridiculous because the Aurean royal family couldn't have been making princesses disappear for hundreds of years without anyone noticing or declaring war on them.
Alerta de spoiler
Did you miss the part where Elodie's father agreed to her being a sacrifice? They didn't have to do a cover-up or make it look like the princesses died in an accident or anything, they simply had to approach desperate Kings, kings who didn't have the option to say no and offer them what they needed, tell them what they needed. his daughter and they would give them to him freely, as could be clearly seen in the movie.
I mean they are a rich and prosperous country, they can bribe or buy whoever they want and those who are desperate will comply with their demands, because aha, they are desperate. Furthermore, at no point does it say that they only have to be princesses, they could have approached a Duke or any Lord to ask for their daughter and if he was broke enough, I'm sure he wouldn't have any problem giving her to them.
