my favourite genre is women setting fire to their tormentor's homes/buildings and then walking out surrounded by flames

I rewatched the movie with my mom and when this scene happened I liked the thought of the dragon stopping for a moment, thrown by hearing the one word she wanted to hear since before her children perished.

say what you want about Netflix’s Damsel, but the ending gave me chills and literally had me shedding tears.
*spoilers*
we need more movies like this, the ones where the *actual* antagonists got what they deserved, and the misunderstood ones, who are actually victims too, got a chance to redeem themselves and live a happy life. I was super satisfied with the ending we got, because I was so rooting for the dragon. I mean I was rooting for Elodie too, obviously, but let’s be real, the dragon’s story was the most tragic one, and she was never a villain — and if you think she is, after learning about what happened to her and her children, just because she’s “a beast” then I literally do not trust you.
we love the dragon here. she’s the mother. literally.

A Damsel (2024) review
was it anything show stopping? no. It was kinda cookie cutter and fell prey to a lot of the shallow writing that plagues media nowadays
BUT that being said I had a fun time watching it and thought the dragon was sick as fuck. Millie Bobbie Brown was pretty good, and the familial relationships actually slapped. like,,, they were the most important relationship roles in the movie which I always love to see. But yea mostly here for the dragon and was not disappointed. Some cool ideas and cinematography but nothing rly outstanding
7/10

We love a final girl who burns it to the ground, is proficient with a sword, and has a fire-breathing dragon as friend that screws ish up with her.

rewatching the iconic third wedding scene in damsel, i noticed that when she tells the people to run, only the servants do — all of them, but the nobles stay
it makes me wonder what they have seen or been through, and if sometimes, when the royal family couldn’t find a princess from abroad, one of their daughters was ‘made royal’ and sacrificed

I understand that it's a staple of the Girl Hero genre, but I do wish Princess Elodie hadn't cut her hair. There's just something in the way a long, tight braid would mirror the Dragon's tail that speaks to me. Alas.

I just watched 'Damsel'. mostly because I knew Angela Bassett was in it.
But holy sh*t! This was the movie I didn't know I needed. Finally a fairytale where a woman saves herself. It wasn't perfect, but it was really good and effective in what it wanted to accomplish: a betrayed woman standing up for herself and fighting back.
I hate how this movie gets so many bad reviews over the fact that the woman saves herself, her family and other women. So called 'girlbossing'. What? Is a woman not allowed to fight for her life?
Let me ask you: When John McClane saved himself, his wife and a bunch of innocent people in the movie 'Die Hard'. Was this movie criticised over something called 'boybossing'? No, I don't think it was.
I wonder why?
Anyway, all of this to say that you should all definitely check out 'Damsel'. It's great entertainment.

I have been told to come to Tumblr with this thought:
The dragon in Damsel deserved to have a name. 😤
