Elfangor: You think you want to be a warrior? Do you know what it is to be a warrior? Have you even read the Warrior's Guidebook?

hmm what do you think about Elfangor as Odysseus? I've never read the odyssey but based on that post and general knowledge he seems to me very fitting for the role
To answer that, I want to know more about the middle part of the war, where Elfangor is doing all his heroic yeerk-fighting. Because to me Odysseus is defined by two things: a) wandering eternally in search of home/rest, and b) being more clever than he is honorable.
A lot of scholars argue that Odysseus is the villain of The Iliad, and that The Odyssey might even have a different author* because it's so much kinder to Odysseus. The modern comparison I always use is the MCU Thor films vs. Loki show. The Iliad is Thor: it's about honor and heroism and glory, about self-sacrifice and worship for the gods. Loki is the villain of the Thor films because he fights through manipulation and deception, risking others' lives to save his own. The Odyssey is Loki: it knows its protagonist is a liar and cheat who will kill a shepherd's flock, drug him when he objects, and stab him in the eye to hide the crime, BUT it also wants you to enjoy the cleverness of his ruse and root for the antihero.
So to me, the question becomes: does Elfangor make a habit of breaking taboos like he does in #1 by letting humans morph? Or does he try to fight with honor and self-sacrifice, taking the fall for the human defense because he sees no other way to uphold his duty as a warrior? I think either interpretation works. He's a wanderer who ignores society's rules at will, or an honorable person who dies protecting five strangers. In Andalite Chronicles he fights clever by trying to ram a Blade ship, but he fights honest by announcing his name to Esplin 9466. He won't take advantage of his enemies when they're helpless, but he also won't hesitate to disobey orders. It's marginal. More data are needed.

Eyo Guess who came back from the dead
Yeah I know no one listens to Hamilton today but I've read the andalite chronicles 5 times now and cried much more and thought of them on this song and now you got to cry about them too
A bit of rambling about the video under the cut
I wanted to create a cool conversation between elfangor and alloran to switch to elfangor having the same conversation with Tobias
But guess what ? My pencils broke and so did my motivation to do the rest of the song sorry
Also. I love Loren and elfangor sooo much in that book they are so cute so I had to put her in the video as well
I'm not really sure about the thumbnail of the video cause it's the first time I do a serious one but it's past midnight where I live and school is coming up fast and here I am
I genuinely hope you like it !

Animorphs (Books 1-23) as Vines
spoiler alert: if it has a basketball, I’m slapping Jake’s name on it
honorable mentions for jokes that didn’t make it in the final cut:
Cassie trying to solve every problem by turning into bugs
Tobias’s bird-dolphin rodeo
The Sharing
Jake’s friends scraping his splattered guts off the ceiling of an airplane
That one where Cassie runs a horse race
The psychic frogs
The time when they saved the falling guy by morphing birds of prey and floating him to the ground but Arnold Schwarzenegger got all the credit

Ax: I don't really find humans attractive unless I'm in my human morph. Otherwise I legitimately do not understand why everyone thinks Rachel or Marco are "pretty". To me its just kinda like thinking a tree looks cool or something
Meanwhile Elfangor and Aldrea:

And then it came to me, in a moment of clarity: I had no choice. When Arbron had been in utter despair and had wanted to die, I stopped him. Because without life there is no despair, but without life there can also never be hope.

I wonder why Elfangor didn't let the Animorphs acquire him after giving them the morphing power? A matter of remaining pride? Not trusting them with his body? The need for him to be confirmed dead by Visser Three?
Honestly, that last one has always been my headcanon. I think that Elfangor's major beef with Visser Three both explains why Elfangor didn't try harder to morph and escape, and why Elfangor didn't give out his DNA. Because Visser Three is totally the kind of person who would burn the planet down if he thought Elfangor was still on it, consequences be damned.
And letting the kids morph him would be a huge red flag that they're not real andalites. It's not clear how much Elfangor plans on concealing the fact that Earth's defenders are human — Jake doesn't think of faking andalite until Visser Three mistakes them for "bandits" — but if a bunch of copies of Elfangor showed up to battle then that would be suspicious as all get-out. If your friend (or meatsuit's ex-student) Jeff died and then an identical copy of Jeff shows up to a battle... you're not going to assume that Jeff had long-lost clones. You're going to assume that this is someone else faking Jeff, and if you know about morphing then it's more logical to conclude that this is an andalite than that this is a human. Because there's no reason for a human to shift to the shape of a slightly different human just before a battle, but there's all the reason in the world for an andalite who wants you to think they're human to show up looking like Jeff.
So Elfangor's DNA doesn't do them much good, I don't think. Not if the kids want to remain incognito for as long as possible.
