do you ever think about how buck was able to pull and lift eddie to safety, while eddie wasn’t able to either pull or lift buck? like I know the physics were different and eddie would be able to pull and lift buck under the same circumstances that buck did it, it was just impossible to lift him up onto the ladder in contrast to doing the standing lift buck did to get him into the firetruck but still WHAT A FUCKED UP PARALLEL to incorporate both pulling and lifting again *screams into hands* (also to have both of those instances in the shooting be the only times eddie is making noises of pain, which while horrifying to hear were also indicators that eddie is still very much alive to feel it, while buck was just quiet and dead, but that’s another kind of fucked up)
honestly it's just frustrating. you have people finding misogynistic cishet dudes and defending their emotional neglect of their sexual partners because it superficially resembles aromanticism even when the men themselves do not identify as aromantic and are often neglecting their sexual partners specifically because they view a girlfriend as the only type of woman who deserves any type of effort and so if the chick they're fucking isn't their girlfriend they can treat her like dirt. and then when people are rightly like "hey fuck you for defending a misogynist" the same people who claimed the cishet guy who never at any point claimed to be aromantic was aromantic and therefore criticizing his misogyny is arophobia go into the aro tags to despair at how many people HATE aromantics so they can whip a bunch of bystanders into a frenzy because they've heard that people are discrediting aromanticism, and therefore are encouraged to read the original unrelated posts or people getting pissed at someone defending emotional abuse by calling it aromanticism in bad faith or not at all, and so you get a mountain of people theorizing that the attack on cishet aro men was manufactured by TERFs instead of people who think that girls who date guys deserve dudes who don't see them as a freelance contractor they can expect sex from without having to treat them with the bare minimum respect they feel a girlfriend is owed.
every time theo ends up saving liam’s life it’s by pulling him to safety from behind… something to be said about liam silently trusting theo enough to give him his back (and theo’s unspoken willingness to have it even at the expense of his own safety).
the funniest moment I ever had in a trust was in the hydaelyn fight when I got a stack marker and all the scions came running over to me and then. then. at the very last second every single one of them ran out from under the stack to group in the middle (AI anticipating the next attack I presume) and the stack went off .0001 seconds after they ABANDONED me before I could catch up and the wol's mom resundered the shit out of my poor lizard boy. the sheer and utter betrayal of that moment. exquisite. hydaelyn was like yeah you guys should probably just get on the moon ship and gtfo

DEAR DIARY... // always accepting!!!
poised vertically among a dozen and a half of its brothers on a shelf that is not cramped, but in equal measure begins to lose its space, is a notebook. hands pluck it out by the top ridge along the well-made blue spine, the skin of it covered carefully in a deep navy, the papers a pristine white. inside, the handwriting is dense and thick and fast, bunched together on each line, a code with it's cipher in the language itself. it has not sat here long. the date on the inner cover like the notice of an eviction in black, fluid pen; '50 - '51.
you open it. its pages rustle as though a guarded cage has been opened, rendered vulnerable, almost meek despite the intimidation of straight iron and pressed paper, rustling like a snarl. you sit with it, you learn it, it learns you. it is uncomfortable with what is asked of it. you ask anyway.
you reach back into the memory it holds. it gives way, like sticking your hand in the guts of a soft oily thing, or jello, reaching for a pearl in a clam-shell.
━ I have had more nightmares in the past two weeks than I have in four months. I don't know how much longer I can do this.
Maybe the stress is getting to me. Seeing the recently deceased is never good for your health, but I can't afford to take leave. If I did, all the ground I'd been covering my entire career will be torn out from under me. I'm lucky. I think it's more than just the corpses.
I keep watching him die. There is blood drawn. Kortenaer aims higher. Shoots. The bullet ruptures his liver as a virulent bomb inside of him. he is unconscious after an unimaginably painful half-second. Someone shouts. I panic. I attempt to stop the bleeding. I do not see de Paule. She aims. Shoots. I wake up in the 57th infirmary. I am forced to ask what happened to him instead of being told. I am informed there was nothing they could do, dead within the two days I am unconscious, an excruciating death as the liver and gallbladder poisons his bloodstream even as the bleeding stops. I do not get to see him again. I do not even know if there is a funeral held. The trial never happens. They were gone. We remained. I remain.
The dream changes often, sometimes being so abstract as if only pertaining to the color of his existence or Martinaise itself, but the point remains the same. somewhere in Jamrock, another little light blinks out.
This hasn't happened since Eyes, and never this constant.
I wish I could call him.
I don't know. I'm tired. I want to hear his voice. I want to talk to him again. It's late. He'd answer.
The ink is allowed to dry for a long, long time. the pearl is clutched in your right hand. your reaching the end, oblivion, always cut short.
I'm going to work on the Kineema. I can't really, the only thing to do is something to I want to do with him, but an unnecessary tune-up is enough to keep my hands busy.
Ooh, several questions! This'll be a bit of a long one lol (and thank you!!)
General:
3. Does she have any comments or advice when you recruit other companions?
Shadowheart: "It's not...common for a cleric to obscure their deity. I suppose I can't begrudge her commitment to secrecy."
Lae'zel: "She reminds me of my aunt... I'm not sure how I feel about that."
Astarion: "Gods, rogues [eye roll]. His dagger skills had better match his audacity."
Gale: "...Is that what all wizards are like topside?"
Wyll: "I can respect an idealist. We need someone to bring up the mood around here."
Karlach: "Oh...oh my. [Clears throat] She seems nice!"
Halsin: I can't for the life of me think of a specific line but it would be something trying (and failing) to keep cool and not show how excited she is about him officially joining the team lol. She'd be asking him a lot of questions about Surface flora and fauna in the "walking around" random dialogue.
Minthara: "She may not be a thrall of the Absolute anymore, but that doesn't mean we should bare our backs to her. Tread carefully."
Jaheira: "[Whispers] Am I supposed to recognize her? Did I miss something?"
Minsc: "Some people have a devil on their shoulder, some have a rodent. I guess."
11. Are there any moments in the game that trigger unique dialogue for her?
A few things might:
She would have a couple lines wondering why a Baenre would join the Absolute after you meet Minthara.
She talks about remembering her father mention the Society of Brilliance after you meet them in the Underdark.
She reacts...a bit badly when you meet Karn'iss and explains her own fears about becoming a drider if you talk to her afterwards, as long as your approval is high enough (moderate or higher). If you didn't get certain details in Act I, you would get them at that point.
(idk if this is what the question meant? But uh hopefully I covered it.)
Story:
8. Does she have comments on who Tav chooses to spend the night with?
For sure. For low-normal approval, she'd make a snarky comment about it and move on quickly. For moderate & higher approval she'll ask about it in an attempt to be supportive ("this is what friends do, right? This is what bonding looks like?") but if you try and give her details she gets embarrassed and backs off.
17. If romanced, how does she react to the Dark Urge trying to kill her in Act 2?
Pausing for a moment to process wtf is happening and then getting very matter-of-fact. She'd talk them through it logically, trying to keep them grounded, except for the last bit before the last saving throw, where she'd accidentally show how scared and concerned she is for them. She would very purposefully place a hand on their shoulder, arm, etc. throughout to try and reach them and show that she's not scared of them (whether or not that's true). Durge would get her Aura of Protection bonuses on their saving throws. Lots of "hey, hey, look at me"-s.
Romance:
7. What questions can Zethino ask Tav about her in the Love Test?
I'm assuming this means from the pre-existing bank of questions she asks from? I got these from the love test ask game/master post(?) that veilkeeper posted.
What, if anything, do they miss most about their home?
When they die, what will be their legacy?
What is the worst thing they've ever done?
Typically, she would approve of honest, straight-forward answers and disapprove of answers that are clearly flattery or that she views as being too sugar-coated.
this is such a small moment, and I totally missed it the last time I read this chapter, but
if I had a nickel for every time Wen Ning went out of his way to save Jiang Cheng and got kicked in response, I would have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's kinda funny that it happened twice
"Mmm, I don't really want to fight right now, though. Sounds like a hassle. My hair is super nice today too, and this is totally gonna ruin it."
"If that's the case, you can feel free to forfeit...though I was hoping to get a little bit of a workout from this."
Zahine Besiira: His biggest three abilities are his affinity for ice, and his abilities to inflict charm (which he's not allowed to use, because it doesn't really wear off, and tends to essentially brainwash whoever gets hit with it), and frenzy respectively. For ice, he prefers to use it at a longer range-- typically forming arrows and a bow of ice that will spread over his opponent's body, or burst once they're hit, depending on how gory he feels like getting that day...though he can also use it for deflecting other ranged attacks away from himself. He's exceptionally knowledgeable in anatomy and the like, and his precise aim allows him to target vulnerable areas with relative ease. As for frenzy, the most dangerous thing about this state is that it makes the opponent lose any and all inhibition, and they will fight even at the expense of harming themselves. It also usually tires them out quickly, as they expend huge bursts of energy to attack pretty much whatever catches their attention.
Aside from that, he's actually the most dangerous when he's up close. Typically, he tries to keep a more "impersonal" approach to fighting, which is a big part of why he usually fights at range. Once he's fired up enough to allow someone to get in close, he uses his brute strength to take them out immediately. Surprising to most, his physical strength is actually much higher than his magical strength, so they'll get close thinking he'll be at a disadvantage, only to have him literally crack them like a glow stick. Also, major healing! But he doesn't usually do too much of that in a fight, if he doesn't have to. He's stubborn about that.
Ber Bireth: Primarily a caster, relying on elemental magic (He really has next to no physical strength. It's very similar to what an average human's might be)-- he favors the earth element most, as he feels it gives him the most range for "status affliction" type attacks. That being said, he does also tend to favor large scale, powerful magics right off the bat, and has the energy to cast them more frequently than most others would. Tends to just wrap himself up nice and cozy in the strongest barrier he can cast, and sit there while his ranged magics force his opponents to run around the field like a headless chicken, trying to dodge them.
The biggest issue with fighting him (in a battle like this anyway-- otherwise it's the fact that he just regenerates immediately upon being killed, and comes at you like an angry cat that you just tried to drop in a bath tub) is by far his command over time based magics. Though he's no longer one of the masters of the Stream of Time, he's still able to do things like temporarily speed up, slow down, or stop time. He can also leap forward and back in any given timeline, but he's not allowed to do that here. He also isn't allowed to just indefinitely pause time to decimate his opponent while they're frozen. Soul sight and hearing means that, if his opponent has a soul, Ber knows exactly where they are at any given time. He can also manipulate souls like his dad can, but...again...that's not allowed here either. No murder, baby Ber. That's bad.
Honestly it makes sense to me — firstly that Seekers are trained to be adaptable. They work alone or in small groups; they travel to remote areas; they are armed specialists and investigators rather than soldiers; they never know what they are going to come up against or what resources will be available to them. Versatility is key. While I wouldn’t say they’re trained in every weapon, I would say they’re trained in both ranged + melee and are given a solid foundation in unarmed combat. They’re training people who can survive despite a disadvantage, who are incredibly aware of their surroundings, and who can assess a situation at a glance.
I feel like . . . their training actually favors one-handed sword + dagger. Inconspicuous, easy to carry, won’t raise too many eyebrows. Gives them a balance of distance and close quarters. If a Seeker is moved to draw their blade, it will not return to the sheath unbloodied. The emphasis is on fast, fatal blows combined with their abilities to weaken / incapacitate. Their opponent will be dead quickly. Sword and shield is rarer and mostly used when they’re working in conjunction with templars.
Cassandra’s foundation in dragon-hunting is fairly compatible with Seeker training. Nevarran hunters do work in groups (they have guilds and everything), but the emphasis is still on finishing it quickly. I do think there are sub-types of dragon-hunters depending on what role you play in the hunt. Matthias and Anthony specialized in a very rare, very risky form. Essentially, they used a khopesh to get in close, hook the scales, rip them back, and stab at vital areas beneath. This can be done with only the khopesh, but there’s typically a short spear involved for that fatal stab.
So Cassandra’s fast, she gets in close, and she finishes it quickly. Tbh I’m not entirely on board with the dual swords she has in DoS, but I do enjoy her being paired with Byron who favors the sword and shield. The reality is she was way too aggressive then. Having her learn something new with the shield and then the nature of sword + shield itself forces her to slow down a bit. She has to play defense more rather than being all hacking and slashing. She still throws herself in head first, but it’s not as bad as it was.
She's also paired with templars far more frequently than other Seekers. She is in a unique position as the Right Hand of the Divine. While she does still trend toward solo missions, only taking a small number of companions when necessary, she is nevertheless responsible for commanding the Knights-Divine. Being templars and specifically templars assigned to guard the Divine + Grand Cathedral, they by and far favor sword and shield. She does keep her own distinct style, but it behooves her to have an understanding of their style, and she's certainly picked up elements of it.
This is all makes khopesh great for her, honestly. Khopesh are short, but they have a versatility to them: they can hack, thrust, and hook. They can also be used solo, paired with a shield, or paired with something like a short spear. It gives her the adaptability necessary for her work, including when she works in concert with the Knights-Divine. It also supports her fast, aggressive style.
can’t stop thinking about that tiny henley/eric moment from the last hohr episode. like maybe i’m just being too optimistic, but the romance plot is coming. i’m sure of it. please.
