hello! saw your post a few days ago about being wary of messianic informational sites that masquerade as proper jewish resources. have you heard of one called myjewishlearning [dot] com , and if so is it a proper resource or is it a messianic pretender? i was doing some research before i found your page and wondered if it's an accurate one.
it doesn't look particularly messianic from my surface-level research (and by that i mean i've made it about as deep as the About Us page lol), but wondered if you knew any better! thanks in advance, answer whenever, and have a good day!!

Shoe cobbling pdfs!
Was doing a little browsing on repairing rubber shoe soles and it led me down this rabbithole. I thought I'd share what I've found to tide everyone over until the next embroidery page update, which may be another few days.
Taken from The Shoe Service Institute of America website, a pair of free pdfs!
First is The Shoe Repairer's Manual written and compiled by Robert Sieburth circa 1936.
The second is Shoe Repairing by Henry Karg, circa 1965.
I'm still flipping through them, but the subject of cobbling and shoe repair is a fascinating one.

"For young people that respect is lacking. Young people often are raised without a say in the structures of their lives, starting with public schooling systems that, from the student’s perspective, can be near authoritarian. For them to be told that they can participate in the federal government while also not being trusted to use the bathroom without a permission slip is a contradiction. It breaks the connection between their social structure and their own interests. If they don’t feel empowered in the classroom where they are learning civics, how can they possibly feel empowered in their greater society and government?
"...That cycle of disempowerment can continue throughout life. If those youth never start feeling respected by their social structures, they stay civically disengaged into adulthood."

Hey, so my late father was a "torah observant follower of Christ" in his own words, as he didn't feel connected to Christianity or Judaism but joined a messianic congregation through some people he met who claimed to be Jewish but idk if they were. Anyway, my dad was a very intellectual man and would read books. I found these books on his shelf and I wanted to know about them and what to think about them? I'm not as bookish as he was but while some of these fully say "messianic" I'm unsure about others.

From what we could find:
The Jews: A History, by John Efron et al - seems to be by legitimate academics
L'Havin U'Lehaskel: A Guide to Torah Hashkofa, by Rabbi Eliezer Gevirtz - JEWISH. At least one edition was published by Feldheim, who are a Jewish publisher.
The rest are Messianic.

So I want to bring attention to my other blog, Blackbird's Rest where I collect tons of educational, community, and social resources as well as information on things like mutual aid, environmental stuff, and more.

Most of the information is accessible and can be read people all over, even internationally! While some of the services are only statewide, the online digital collections can be viewed anywhere, even internationally, and are well worth perusing, even if it's not your home state.
I don't make a lot of posts, but the links get updated, added to, and revised often, and I do take suggestions to add to the lists if you have information, mutual aid groups,LGBTQIA+ orgs, or other resources that may be local to certain areas! Also I am willing to add international resources as well, not just stuff for and from the United States.
