I was putting off my homework rewatching a little bit of Earthspark and I think I found an interesting detail

Obligatory spoiler warning because this both discusses a major plot point from the new episodes and also has screenshots

Alright I apologize in advance for the quality of these pictures because I had to take them with my phone since you can’t screenshot things on Paramount+ lmao

I was going through Home Part 1 and 2, specifically the part where we see all of the Cybertronians and Cybertronian parts hanging from Mandroid’s lair, because I wanted to see who was in there. That’s when I caught this detail

Since a lot of people seem to like my last Transformers EarthSpark posts, I figured I'd make more. 😀

**There might be spoilers in this post if you haven't watched this series yet** WATCH IT! IT'S SOOO GOOD!!!!!!!!

Now it's time to talk about Dot and Megatron's friendship.

Their friendship is the main reason why I gave this show a chance. When I saw the promo trailer for Transformers EarthSpark and saw the scene where Megatron makes his first appearance, I felt so bamboozled at first because he looks soooo bloody menacing and terrifying!!! He made sure to make his entrance powerful and command attention. Look at this! Look at his face!!!

At first I thought, "Ohhh shit! It's about to get serious!" And then boom! It turns into this

"You always knew how to make an entrance, Megs!"

When I heard that, I thought, "Hol up! Whatttttt???!" And then I knew at that exact moment that I absolutely HAD to watch this show and find out what's up with this.

I really like that Transformers EarthSpark has taken a new approach to Megatron and made him a good guy. It works so well in this adaptation!!! He still retained his badass warlord tendencies and he's still terrifying, but his friendship with Dot is so freaking wholesome!!!

SHE CALLS HIM MEGS!!!! I CAN'T!!! 😭😭😭 🥰🤩🥺

I love that the writers did their research and are aligned with the fandom and the nicknames it gave for popular characters. And I love that Dot and Megs' friendship is giving "Work friends that actually became friends in real life". You can just tell that they've been through hell and back together while fighting in the war and fighting alongside each other. They respect each other greatly and have a sort of impenetrable bond. I love how happy Megatron was when he saw Dot in the pilot episode. He could not hide the huge grin on his face and was so happy to be working with her again. And the same goes for Dot. She was happy to see her friend again. It's just so freaking adorable!

You can tell that their friendship is strong because in "Age of Evolution" when Dot and Megs get captured by Mandroid, Dot ignores Megs when he insists that she flees from the scene when they realized that they walked into a trap. She just keeps on blasting at the Arachnimechs and does not leave his side. When they're brought back to Mandroid's lair Dot tries to stop **shudders** the horrible, HORRIBLE torture being inflicted on Megatron by disconnecting a cable. She still does not leave his side and I just found that to be a really powerful moment. But when Dot is finally able to free Megs from his restraints, I just found that scene so satisfying. 😌

Overall, I absolutely LOVE the treatment of this badass duo and I hope to see more badass scenes of them fighting alongside each other.

LOOK AT THEM!!!!! They aren't playing around!!!! 🙌🏾

Okay upon further thought it would've been so fucking interesting to see how MECH regarded Shockwave.

Just... Imagine them meeting Shockwave by chance, that would be such a terrifying scene for them. He'd have opinions on their projects, morality varies based on how one is writing Shockwave, but just. Imagine that. This also fits for Hazard but this post is for more than just the tfp au

Like also consider how CYLAS was on the Nemesis from s2 ep19 to s3 ep8, so a fairly significant while. CYLAS fascinates me for so many reasons and I feel like it would've been so fucking interesting if Shockwave noticed the pretty obvious Frankensteined together technoorganic (which MECH must've done well enough for CYLAS to live as long as he did with relative ease compared to all the other things that could have happened)

#cylas fascinates me and so far I've only found one fic where Megatron actually accepts him as a decepticon and it's Death Becomes Us #and while that's a pretty new fic it's a concept I've thought about quite a lot #but also #there's just this feeling this lovely feeling when dealing with MECH of them realizing they're in too deep #on one hand i feel like we underestimate Silas & MECH but on the other hand that's such a feeling #because they've been looking at the cybertronian war from an outside pov and they don't have the millennia of context #like growing up Operation Breakdown and Human Factor were two of my favorite episodes #MECH is underrated as all fuck and seeing how Mandroid and GHOST operate in Earthspark thrills me just the same #maccadam #transformers #tfp au #but not just that #hazard #oc #tf oc #tfp silas #tfp cylas #<same guy #mostly #tfp shockwave #tfp mech #there's a chance that the scene at the end of Human Factor //is// my favorite scene in tfp because fuck was knockout amazing in it

I was very confused at people's critiques of Megatron's reaction to Starscream and people disliking the choice of it because I personally thought it really solidified the intended characterization of him and it seemed fairly consistent with the direction they were going for. Which, to me, feels like people have mischaracterized him or simplified his character too much; the point is that he's multifaceted and everything isn't just black and white

I suspect a lot of it stems from the fandom approach to redemption arcs, honestly. I've read a lot of fics that portray redeemed characters as selfless, kind, friendly... It doesn't matter who it is, they basically become the nicest people imaginable, and they never fall back into old habits unless the author wants "Are they going to betray the Autobots?" drama. There's also a tendency to "soften" characters so they're more redeemable; they're less violent, less abrasive, have morals that match the heroes better, and so on.

Obviously people can write (and read) what they want, but if that's what they consider a proper redemption, it doesn't leave much room for redeemed characters to be more nuanced. And, of course, there's no room for the redeemed character to be an abuser if you're used to smoothing out negative traits.

Consistency aside, the biggest complaint I've seen about Megatron's behavior is that "You can't redeem an abuser in a show for kids" (with a few saying you just shouldn't redeem abusers). So between people with abuse-related trauma being triggered* and people who are used to redeemed characters being totally redeemed or not at all, I guess I'm not surprised that Megatron having some shades of gray is proving unpopular.

*Note: I'm using "triggered" for its intended purpose here, not mocking anyone.

i'm so sorry for complaining, people know i love this show very deeply (have written several fics specifically for it, and planning to write more), but this batch of episodes doesn't feel consistent with the lore established in other episodes.

i watched this show religiously a few months back, when the S1B dropped. i need all of earthspark fans to rewatch this show from the very beginning.

if you remember everything, you probably feel just as weird as i am after the finale. my biggest complaint about it is the bridge, which was set by Mandroid to destroy all Cybertronians who have energon in their bodies. Croft was a live demonstration of that.

the Terrans are Earth's and Quintess' creations. they don't have energon, they work on Cave Water, as established in episode 7. when they were given energon for a re-fuel, they didn't come back to normal, as others would expect. it's a whole episode, an in-depth example of their Earth origin.

and even in episode 21 we see this point again, when the Maltos go into the same pool of water trying to heal Robbie.

sense, conclusion, why would they be deactivated when the Portal works, along with every Cybertronian? it would have been even more tense if they were the Last Hope, to continue a whole nation, to heal everyone back, as a family, a team, and a people. when the Terrans deactivated, it felt forced, like the audience needed a push to cry, or to make Robbie and Mo do something significant, when they already have proven to be good characters. they really didn't even need to go that far.

i love this show to death. i want it to get better. that was sad to watch...
