Sienna rolled her shoulders back and remembered she was excited about things. That the summer was still ahead of her, that Autumn promised more. That she was safe and cared for and had time to ask all the questions she wanted, and sleep in her own soft bed. That there was steamed fish and iced apple juice, and Miguel would probably come over after work some time that week.
Deep breath in, expanding her lungs. Deep breath out, a release.

28. Favorite side character: right now my favorite side characters are from my western wip Murders of Crow Creek; one is named Venus Darling and is essentially a reaper, of the grim variety, and their scythe actually turns into a dagger when they aren’t using it; and another one is Diamondback, who is a demon that has the characteristics of a rattlesnake (hence the name) and totally isn’t inspired by the rattlesnake demon from helluva boss oops.
49. Which character would you most want to be friends with if they were real? I would definitely vibe with Ashanti from my Generation Six wip; she is kind of a geek and grew up watching stuff like Power Rangers and TMNT and liked to play pretend with that stuff, and actually learned martial arts fighting because of this. she’s also just very sweet and cute and i think i would have fun hanging out with her. i would have fun hanging out with most of the characters from that wip actually

hi there :) you said to hit your ask box to rant about WIPs so BASICALLY ive been working on building an opposing nation for my novels backstory and lately ive been doing a lot of mapmaking. its been keeping me really involved in my lore. what are you currently working on that you just cant put down?

Synopsis:
“Remember, Melinoë, above all else, we must protect our people first.”
Melinoë’s brother’s last words that night were meant to be reassuring, but now they haunt her. The notion seemed simple enough, her coming of age signified a duty to her kingdom’s citizens- one that was undeniable, one as Aetherin had commanded it.
“We must protect our people first.”
When war erupts on the foreign shores of `Avilusia’s islands, Aedion’s simple reminder leads as Melinoë’s moral compass. While she navigates her foreboden life dedicated to Osheather’s service, she receives guidance through prophetic dreams from her God to keep her on a path of virtue. Destined to avenge her family across the sea and bring peace between the two nations, she travels alongside her childhood mentor and longtime friend and sees the realities of battle firsthand. Making an unlikely acquaintance along the way, Melinoë is faced with the question: “What truly protects my people?”
Excerpt:
“Eternal Master, revered Creator of Osheather, Creator of Life, Reigner of Death, I pray that you lead my heart far from the shadows of the Damned. Lead me by my hand so that I may proclaim Your praise. Empower me with Your holy kindness, so that I, too, can join the saints and lead our nation to greatness in Your glory. I beg this of you on both my knees, humbled greatly by Your presence.”
The statue towering before her of course makes no movement, but something inside of Melinoë shifts. Briefly, she opens her eyes just in time to see the candles surrounding her blow out in a gust of wind that sweeps through the empty chapel, sneaking eerily through the doors that hang ajar. A quiet gasp escapes her as she examines the shrine in wonder. During this still moment, she doesn’t need a dream to understand Aetherin- his assurance is loud and clear. This same prayer that she’s been reciting at her bedside since childhood takes a new meaning as her country hinges on the verge of war.

Their journey is off to a tenuous start already, and it is Hana who is at fault. She has done everything she can to jeopardize it from the beginning, whether she meant it or not. And she didn’t, she would swear to the gods that she didn’t, not really, not truly. If given the chance she would go back, give this hard won task the justice that it deserves, take it seriously from the start no matter how much it scares her - a shaking girl completing a hefty goal with only determination to keep her going. In absence of a restart, she can only try her best from here.
She has lost track of the discussion, made clear when Akira reaches out, fingertips brushing against her arm; it surprises her, and she jerks away, and the face that he makes it not worth that reaction no matter how genuine, but it is gone just as quickly as it came.

Food
Braddik loves Four Meat Pie—a dwarven recipe made up of animals common to Dwarfesbörg that can be hunted, particularly when other foods can’t be afforded. It is comprised of dark rabbit (like regular rabbits but completely black), rat, skarwker (a muddy-brown bird that lives underground, named onomatopoeically due to the terrible noise it makes), and ground snake (a grey snake that lives in the region).
Festival/holiday
Every summer, Dwarfesbörg hosts The Tourneys. Apparently in honour of the god most worshipped by the dwarves, Jügular (a chthonic deity associated with the wealth of the earth, such as ores and gemstones), the games are essentially a way to prove the might and artistic talent of Dwarfesbörg, which the far-right leadership aim to impress in their peoples as the best in all of Olrion. There are a number of contests across different disciplines, such as fighting (with and without weapons), athletics, and the bardic arts.
Braddik likes it because you’re guaranteed to get some decent food for the two weeks that the Tourneys take, and while he doesn’t believe the aforementioned propaganda (having been raised by an adventuring mother, he knows there’s a lot more to the world than just the dwarves and their creations), he does enjoy the entertainment. For him, it’s much better than days of prayer.
Season
Living underground most of his life, Braddik doesn’t really understand what seasons are like. His journey will be the first time that he gets to experience the changing of them.
Poem
Braddik’s never been one for poetry except during his adolescence, when he tried it himself and realised quite how bad he is at it. He’s never really understood it, bless him. In terms of the bardic arts, he’d much rather go and watch a play.
