So because I got bored, I went ahead and made a bracket for a Star Trek Babygirl poll. A few notes before the polls commence
1. This bracket only utilizes characters from Star Trek (Original Series), The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager. This is because a, I haven’t watched any other shows and therefore don’t know the characters; and b, I only have so much of an attention span.
2. There are nine characters from each show. I limited it to the main characters (AKA, the ones whose names appear in the opening titles or who appear in most episodes). I might do another bracket with supporting casts later if I feel like it. For purposes of this list, Worf counted as a TNG character and O’Brien counted as a DS9 character.
3. The match-ups were completely randomized for maximum chaos. I realize this has made several of them very unfair, but I thought it was funnier that way. I might do smaller bracket for same-crew matchups later, again if I feel like it. The only bracket that was not randomized was the one between Jadzia and Ezri Dax, as I felt it would be unfair to have two Daxes throughout the polling so they were both put in the front matchups.
4. Remember, this is a bracket for the Ultimate Baby Girl. This means the character you feel has done nothing wrong in their life ever, not the one you like the best. I realize these are often the same thing, but if you have a difficult time choosing, that is the criteria you should go with. If you haven’t watched any of the shows, go with vibes since all polls come with pictures.
5. Please reblog the polls to ensure I get a good sample size!
6. The polls will be tagged “babygirl poll” if you want to blacklist them. There will be four per day for the first two rounds.
With all that said, the first poll will commence tomorrow as soon as I’ve gotten everything set up and scheduled.

idk if anyone’s made a post about XKit Rewritten for the New Twitter Users TM but imo the site is unlivable without it. there’s a firefox version or a chrome version (or if you’re checking for a different browser, make sure it’s posted by April Sylph, she’s the current developer). the settings are configured through your browser topbar with other extensions.
it allows you a bunch of personal tweaks to customize the dashboard, like built-in adblock, blocking individual posts, putting timestamps on posts, shortening long posts, simple accessibility options like enabling alt text on the bottom of images or pausing gifs and animated elements, and hiding a whole bunch of small annoyances:

some of these are also available through tumblr’s native Dashboard Settings, and there’s a blacklist function using “Filtered Tags” and “Filtered Post Content” under Account Settings.
the sticky “following / for you” banner they put at the top of the desktop can be removed through ublock origin (right-click, select “block element”, and highlight the whole banner and click).
i also use the old, very broken New XKit for Old Blue which reverts the dashboard’s color palette to its old lower-contrast version, but there are again native dashboard themes which you can adjust that with. i would recommend NOT using the beta post editor because it’s much buggier and harder to use but you can’t use the newer features (such as restricting reblogs or marking explicit content) without it. worse than that it gives you a wonderful redundant pop-up confirming you’ve reblogged a post, which can also be removed through ublock origin.
alt+r reblogs posts automatically, alt+q queues posts automatically. also turn off infinite scroll and best stuff first xoxo

Spoiler Tags
These operate similarly to both the Fan Content and Trigger tags. As a general rule, if something contains spoilers for something else, the tag will be the same as the fandom tag + "spoilers". This can be more specific, such as for a specific season.
Example, if something has spoilers for the third part of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, it will be tagged both "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure spoilers" AND "Stardust Crusaders spoilers".
The following list is a list of the spoiler tags I have used so far and I will try to keep it updated as I use more spoiler tags, but I make no promises about it being 100% accurate and exhaustive. I would suggest blacklisting the tag for a fandom and its spoilers (ex. "Undertale spoilers") even if it's not listed as a preemptive measure if it's something of major concern to you.

The science-y babble in this episode (e.g. the magnometer!) and in this show in general is so bad it’s distracting. Really, guys, try less, vague it up, abusing vaguely-appropriate words and concepts is not helping anyone! Or anyone who knows a little bit of real science. I mean me.
last, but possibly not least: I thought at the very end the alien leader would say: say ‘no, fear of death won’t stop the war, but once we are dead it will stop!’ Because the setup as presented is both... a punishment that could seemy just & merciful from the outside - they could all just *stop,* right? - but arguably in actuality a fate worse than death, cause they can’t manage to stop, not even ever, not even when they(’d) die. Which makes it an interesting setup, enough to not quibble about the quality of realism or allegory! So seeing that they can’t stop themselves but letting death stop them (on both sides) would be... a fitting but poetic tragic ending, to me? ... but I suppose the actual end, with the Kai staying there, is considerably more Star Trek-y. ~shrug.~

The last time we watched ‘Necessary Evil,’ Em and I went down a deep (high) speculative rabbit hole trying to figure out why anyone would build a self-contained ore processing facility in space. Surely, we thought, blasting a cheap, bulky raw material like ore into orbit--or even shipping it over from an asteroid or a moon or something--would be far less efficient than refining it in situ? It’s not like the Cardassian military has any competitors planetside, or gives a damn about Bajoran labor laws, or worries about ‘Bajorans taking skilled jobs from Cardassian workers’ or any of the other reasons the evil Anaconda Copper Mining Companies of Planet Earth geographically differentiate their evil vertically-integrated neocolonial industries. I think it’s more fair to say that we don’t like ezri because jadzia had that actual gay rep and so we could say she’s canon not straight, and then they killed her off and replaced her with someone whose story is basically all about straight relationships
ok I guess? It's not like I'm happy either about Ezri's storyline shifting from 'trying to adapt to a joining she wasn't prepared to undergo' to 'will she get together with Julian or not?', and anyway that's hardly Ezri's fault (blame the writers for that, and Rick Berman for firing Terry Farrell). But more importantly, I'm not interested in analyzing the motivations of every single person who doesn't like Ezri. I just find the overwhelming hate she gets exhausting, and I don't think I'm that off-base when I say that that hate is due mostly to the fact that she is the female character that 'gets in the way' of the popular slash ship.
To be honest with you anon I'm not even sure it's fair to say that Ezri's character isn't queer at all, more qualified people than me have observed that her storyline can be very easily interpreted as a trans experience and I personally agree with that. Clearly, it's all subtextual, so not actual representation, but then again so is Julian's interest in Garak. I was flippant earlier and I'm sorry, but honestly you can't expect much more than that from a show produced in the 90s with people like Rick Berman dictating what was allowed or not. "Rejoined" was very much an exception, and it remained that way for 22 years.
It's not that I'm not sad about Jadzia dying either (hello have you seen my blog? I've been emotional over that for more than a year now), and all the circumstances surrounding Terry's departure from the show are infuriating and terrible. I just think people should at least try to be more understanding towards Ezri because more often than not she's just a convenient scapegoat for a lot of shitty decisions.
