Monster Matchup: Jayce (SFW)
Well! I'm back, and slowly trying to get into the swing of things. I plan on Thursday posts being posted earlier in the day rather than later. Anyways! Here's a monster matchup!

The first time you had met him, it was actually online in a chat room that you were using to discuss different digital artist techniques, you had posted one of your most recent drawings and asked them what it was missing. Since you couldn’t quite place your finger on it.
Jayce had been the first one to respond, suggesting adding some shading in different areas while the others had echoed the same thoughts, and after mulling it over for a while, you had taken the suggestions to mind and added shading.
Only then was the piece perfect enough to post to your account, which led to you getting a new follower, the same guy from the chat room you had been in.
You had been the one to start the conversation first, sending out a quick thank you to him to which he had responded back. Though the conversation had only seemed to go from there, it started slowly at first, one message every other day or so.
Then it turned into the two of you messaging each other constantly, whether it was while you were out at a party to tell him how it was or while he was at his job telling you about some annoying thing a coworker had said to him. Eventually he had started to share pictures with you in day to day life, and you found he had a pet cat!
Finally, you had gathered enough courage to ask him where he lived, surprisingly, he didn’t live too far from you.
Wanting to meet the person behind the screen, you had suggested meeting up, which to your surprise he had agreed. You had texted one of your friends to come along with you, and since he worked at a museum, a very public place, you had full confidence going out to meet him.
What you weren’t expecting was a 7 foot tall drider with snow white hair and red eyes to be standing in front of where you were supposed to meet the friend you had made online. You stood there shocked for a moment or two before walking up to him and introducing yourself.
He had smiled at you, and introduced himself as Jayce, or Jay for short, and then he very happily showed you and your friend around the museum, explaining all of the different exhibits and even giving you a bit of a backstage tour since he had clearance.
The stone pathway that led up to the museum was familiar to you now, as was the drider who was just starting an afternoon tour that consisted of fourth graders who really could care less about what he had to say and cared more about getting to the dinosaur exhibit. You leaned against the check in desk, the demon behind the counter had grown familiar with you and would let you come and go as you please since you were mainly here for him anyway.
His gaze had landed on you, and a sweet smile had spread across his features as he had led the kids over to the interactive dinosaur dig site that they had set up recently since there had been an increase in schools wanting to take field trips there. The teacher had looked mildly annoyed that she had to pay attention to the kids now but Jayce strode over to you like he could have cared less.
“I thought you were busy today?” He asked once he had reached you, he leaned down, pulling you into a hug that had made you always feel secure with him. “If I would’ve known you were coming, I would’ve scheduled the field trip for later in the day…” He huffed quietly as he pulled away.
You merely beamed up at him in response. “Well, I thought I’d come and surprise you today, but I see that you’re busy, I could always come…-” You were cut off as Jayce had pulled you closer to him and leaned down to press a brief kiss to your lips.
“Nonsense, in fact, since you’re here, why don’t you help me give the tour?” He suggested as he led you over to where the fourth graders were currently having the time of their lives.
“Sure, and then we can go out for lunch!” You laughed as he rolled his eyes playfully at you. “There’s a new restaurant that opened up that we could try.”

I think driders should have more spider parts on the drow half and more humanoid parts on the spider half. More mixing basically.
Also I cannot stand the posture of most depictions of driders (I have the same thing with centaurs). That tiny waist is not enough to keep the drow half upright?? And the drow half being upright at all is such a weird angle to me.
Rough drawing but I think you get it. This looks much more plausible to me.

So I am in absolute AWE of this drider design I found on Hero Forge, by user FoxOfDiamonds. Just, holy shorts. I'd seen that there were new tail options that would make effective legs, but I hadn't had the chance to sit down and experiment with them. Holy frack, this looks amazing. Pardon me while I revise the crap out of my previous designs...

I'm curious, how would you physically describe Dren and Morgan? :D
Aight so, step by step construction of my mental image of the spoods below. I still want my characters' appearances to be up for the reader's interpretation too tho, so don't take this as a total 100% truth 'mustbethisway! >:C', lmao. Thanks for the question <3
Dren
Abdomen species inspiration: Grammostola Pulchra ("Brazilian Black tarantula")
His skin is pale like that of someone who never sees the sun, and the rest of him is more or less dark like a cave. His spiders abdomen is completely black and covered in tough hairs, one leg a lil shorter than the others from an old injury. Torso has a strong build with a bit of chub to him, he's a big boy. His shoulders are hairy too, his 'human' arms ending in claws on his hands. He's got scars here an there from all the fighting he's done. His hair's long, black and straight, a completely unruly mess he doesn't really bother taking care of. He's got four eyes total, a pair of dominant eyes and a smaller pair next to them, also completely black with no visible pupil. He's got mandibles with fangs on the end over his mouth. He looks intimidating, but he's got a strangely calming aura to him. He's generally very polite if you're not a threat to him.
Morgan (also partially answered in one ask here but I'll expand a bit here)
Abdomen species inspiration: Mix of Loxosceles reclusa (Brown Recluse) and Argiope aurantia (Yellow Garden spider)
Morgan's a bit more weathered thanks to all the wandering they do and sunlight they get. Their body's more lean and gangly, built for speed and endurance but still having that uncanny elegance of their orb weaver part. Their abdomen has coloration of both species listed above, brown being the dominant color, but the general 'shape' is leaning more toward the yellow garden spider. They're less hairy than Dren, but still has some tough hairs running on their legs acting like 'feelers'. They also wear clothes on their human torso, mostly a green tunic to keep warm in colder weather (stolen). Their hair is long and chestnut colored, decently groomed and partially covering their face, but their four red eyes are probably one of the first things you notice about them. It's difficult to look away from them. They've also got fanged mandibles above the mouth, and you'll see them brandishing their sharp teeth a lot in a smile. Whether it genuine or hostile depends on who it's aimed at.

imagine driders of spider species who dont just weave webs. Get you a trapdoor spider drider and get yoinked into the ground when you least expect it
I combine a billion spiders into one in a drider hybrid sometimes, lol.
But tbh I love it. Trapdoor spider nests always look so cozy. Imagine you're just walking through a forest and all of a sudden you get yoinked into a cozy pillow fort.
Or a peacock spider showing off their flashy back side for you- Or walking around and suddenly from like- A mile away a spider launches itself near you and apologizes profusely when you fall back in terror as it lands with a thud next to you.
Or those tarantulas that keep frogs as pets, all of a sudden you're a drider's pet.
Also a tired mama drider weaving a bunch of sweaters for her hundreds of baby driders all clustered together on her back
Or a drider carrying a sack of baby spiders/Eggs with it
