Dr. Ivan Van Sertima on African Civilizations and History

Somehow Black Indigenous People globally seem to follow the narratives of the so-called white people who are Black Indigenous People and to omit the out of Africa migration is absolutely insane.

I love Dr. Ivan Van Sertima and the wonderful work he has done. This entire planet is only made of Black Africans. We are the Indigenous People of earth. Everyone on this planet shares our Black African lineages.

WE POUR LIBATION for our great African Revolutionary Leaders like Patrice Lumumba, Amilcar Cabral, and Kwame Nkrumah. We pour libation for our giant visionaries like Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, Nat Turner, W.E.B. DuBois, and Sojourner Truth. We pour libation for our leader Marcus Garvey, who worked for African Liberation.

WE POUR. LIBATION for our strong Sisters like Ella Baker and Fannie Lou Hamer, who taught us that we who believe in FREEDOM cannot REST.

WE POUR LIBATION for our intellectual giants like Drs. Cheikh Anta Diop, Frances Cress Welsing, Ben Jochannan, John Henrik Clarke, Asa G. Hilliard III, Ivan Van Sertima, Jacob H. Carruthers, Amos Wilson, others.

WE POUR LIBATION for our warrior, and brilliant intellect of brother, Malcolm X, who told us never to place any restrictions on what we will do to achieve full LIBERATION. We pour libation for our courageous brother Martin Luther King Jr., who taught us his noble values of selflessness and love.

Justin Brown (b. 1988) is a multidisciplinary artist and curator from Indianapolis, IN. He is the founder and director of Hoy Polloy art gallery located at 3125 e. 10th street, Indianapolis, IN. Justin’s work is research based; ranging from public- private experiments, to government and corporate surveillance programs to archival photographs. Justin paints with data and paper. His series “Intelligence Countered” highlights FBI surveillance files of persons of interest from the Rabble Rouser Index, Cointelpro, and modern intelligence operations. He collages casework and redacts the papers further with abstract painting techniques to draw the viewer's eye to the text. Justin’s “Cubist Maps” series is centered around the historic development of neighborhoods, cities, and interstate infrastructures. He collages archive images of landmarks and residents in geometric “maps” to honor a region's history. Justin has installed permanent murals in Milktooth, Rabble Coffee, Beholder, and the MLK Multi-service Center in Indianapolis. His work has been exhibited at Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art, Big Car’s Listen Hear, and Hoy Polloy. My art is research based documentary collage. I research land development history, governmental investigatory paperwork, and private intelligence surveillance companies. Iconography and text are the basis of my practice.
