Phineas and Ferb is so iconic bc really the only relatable or multidimensional characters are the antagonists and like all the others are (75% comically exaggerated stereotype, 15% nonsense, 10% comically direct contradiction of the previously established stereotype) but they’re still somehow great characters

Propaganda Beneath the Cut
Sonic and Tails
Tails is THE best friend of all time! He's stuck with Sonic through everything after Sonic protected him from bullies when they first met
Their Sonic & Tails! The bestest buddies! Fighting villains together! ADHD & Autism
The BFFs of all time! They have such a nice brotherly relationship and Sonic is always so supportive of Tails, truly a friendship of the ages.
Perry and Doof
Okay look I know they are technically nemeses but as the show progresses they are so good to each other (aside from, in Doof's words: the "cartoonish acts of physical violence") I MEAN LOOK AT THEM HOLDING HANDS WHEN PERRY HELPS HIM MAKE AN INATOR!!! Also Doof says several times stuff like Perry is his "rock" and stuff like that.

Whether you take it romantically or platonically, it's no news that these two are not real enemies, their fights are treated like a job (Especially shown in the episode "My Fair Goalie") And when off work, they actually get along. They literally had a breakup episode lmao.

I think we all know by now that Candace is the real main character of Phineas and Ferb. While on first glance, our title characters are the real protagonists, and thus, Candace who desires their downfall is an antagonistic force to them. And its true, Candace CAN BE antagonistic towards them but protagonist and antagonist are really defined in terms of a stories framing, and as established she's more of the protagonist which would make Phineas and Ferb the antagonists. But Phineas and Ferb never really go against Candace. In their eyes, Candace isn't an antagonist, she's their cool big sister, who's sometimes a little weird, but always loves them, and so very rarely is anything they do is meant to antagonize her.
Really breaking PnF characters into protagonists and antagonists isn't really helpful when looking at the show. PnF has a wide variety of characters with their own wants and needs, these needs can conflict with each other, but we are never truly lead to root for one character over another (see Finding Mary McGuffin, or Vanessasary Roughness). Sure, we might not want Doof to succeed in taking over the tri-state area, or to see the boys get in trouble. But we also don't really want Candace's mom to think she's crazy, and we don't really want Doof to be arrested either. Major Monogram is a bit of an asshole, despite being the "Big Good". Perry costs Doof a fortune in repair bills. Buford is a bully whose secretly rather soft. I think the fact that both Vanessa and Candace want to "Bust someone", and this desire is often treated with equal amounts of respect. But Candace wants to bust her fun loving little brothers, and Vanessa wants to stop her evil father says a lot. If Vanessa's a good guy, then so is Candace, and if Vanessa's a bad guy for wanting to stop her dad, then does that make Perry bad too?
Candace and Doof, the surface level antagonists, are merely the ones who are screwed over by "Mysterious Force". Candace may see herself and her brothers as antagonists towards each other, but ultimately, it's her low self-esteem and a universe that treats her unfairly that are her true antagonist. Doof may see himself and Perry as enemies, but ultimately Doof's REAL antagonist is his own lack of planning and feeling obligated to seek revenge for his tragic backstories.
It's not that there are never antagonists. Buford often acted as an antagonist in earlier episodes. Thaddeus, Thor and Mandy in that one episode. And Doof is very much a antagonist to Perry most of the time, and aside from Doof, we're given to real reason to root for other evil scientists such as Poofenplotz who does act as a more one sided villain. Brigitte the fireside girl was an antagonist to Buford without being evil that one episode.
There are plenty of antagonists in MML and H&G. In Milo we have the pistachions, Elliot, and often the time bureau (even if the latter aren't necessarily evil). And H&G has its large rouges gallery. But the closest PnF has is Doof, whose solidly a protagonist by the time MML begins.
In PnF while there is plenty of interpersonal conflict, much of it is two sided where neither party is necessarily evil, no matter how much Doof tries to be. Though his schemes do need to be stopped victory isn't necessarily what he really wants/needs. While Candace and Doof are often "punished", it is often genuinely unfairly, not necessarily karmic justice. We the audience don't necessarily feel satisfied that they got what was coming to them. (Not to say this is always the case, these two do bring most of it on themselves). A lot of the conflict is ultimately situational, rather than personal.
Though it makes sense that someone might assume Doof and Candace are the antagonists. After all if your just glancing at it, obviously the evil scientist is an antagonist. And Candace is kind of a jerk towards her younger brothers who don't deserve any of it. (Well, they mean well at least, that doesn't mean they never cause problems). But the truth of the matter is that even when characters are in opposition to each other its often a temporary thing. Doof and Perry often team up, as do Candace and the boys, Buford and Baljeet, and so on. Labeling a character an antagonist is done on a episode by episode basis, and is dependent on who your deciding to frame as a protagonist, which is often rather arbitrary.
Lots of shows (slice of life) do have casts who are sometimes in opposition to each other, and sometimes not. But I bring this up because Phineas and Ferb feels like it should have clear cut protagonists (our title characters, the super spy) and antagonists (bratty older sister stopping the fun, evil scientist, bully) but instead of demonizing one side or another, a lot of it is just. Value neutral. The two sides work together almost as often as they are "against" each other. Perry needs/enjoys fighting against Doof as much as Doof. Doof being good isn't even necessarily shown as changing Perry and Doof's relationship, or even necessarily as the "right" thing. (Just the frequency with which they beat each other up). Considering any of our main cast to be obstacles to each other misses the point of like every single special.

Star's Engage Catalogue Day 34 (part 5)
I feel that it's only right to showcase the final team that will be joining me.
And I have to split it into 2 posts because Tumblr has a 10-picture limit.
Tumblr media
Don't really think I have to explain why Alear has been a strong fighter. You see those stats and you see why I had Marth stick with him, those two are a perfect fit.
But I wanna talk about how shocked I am by Alear's character. He's genuinely up there with Corrin and Shez as one of the best avatars this series has done. His story is engaging, he's a joy to watch in anything he does or says, his voice acting is immaculate, he's so God flippin adorable! I'll definitely talk more about him another time, but he managed to become one of my favorite characters in all of Fire Emblem, something I never expected to happen playing this game!
Tumblr media
Again, don't think I need to explain why a dancer is good. And while Corrin worked with him for a while, Byleth is a better option, especially with the stats he gives.
And Seadall surprised me with his character. His alluring nature and way of speaking, his wisdom and experience from his past, the struggles he deals with from his lifestyle, and the way he can inspire others even when he doesn't believe in himself. I don't know how some of y'all can say he's boring, this sh*t is lovely.
Also he's pretty as hell, but I think you can see that.
Tumblr media
Rosado has been a reliable fighter who can just about any enemy I have him face. Good stats, weapon variety and flyer mobility make him extremely versatile. Leif has been the best fit for him, since his stat boosts and skills work best for how Rosado functions in battle.
His character is also wonderful. A perfect evolution of Forrest and wonderful rep for trans, genderfluid, crossdresser's, and gender questioning people in a time where they really need positive representation. Plus he's spunky and sassy while also being caring and supportive.
Tumblr media
Amber is a weirdly good example of hard-hitting but fragile. His low speed and res make him susceptible to one-hit kills, but the enemy can't do that if he doesn't kill them in one hit first. Eirika also works weirdly well for him, as the twins' skills suit whatever I need him to do that turn.
But I can overlook all of that for his character. I love this doof! He's so dumb and goofy but filled with so much positivity and cheerfulness it's hard not to smile at his antics. Even when he royally f*cks something up, you can't help but smile and go, "Youre doing amazing, sweetie."
Tumblr media
Alcryst might just be the strongest member of my team and Lyn really helped to bring out his true potential. Her skills perfectly suit his play style and ensure that any he fights will not survive, whether it'd be death by crit, death by Luna, or Alacrity stopping the opponent from even fighting back. And with me giving him avoidance skill, literally nothing can even touch him. It's honestly ridiculous how busted this unit is.
And don't get me started on how much I love this little skrunkly! He stole my love the second his first scene ended and it only got better with each scene he got. I just wanted this boy to have love and happiness and seeing him get that from everyone in his life- his brother, his retainers, his friends, his boyfriend- they all just make me smile.
Tumblr media
Alfred has a rocky middle, but he really picked up. Once I started utilizing the resources I got and realized that he got swords after being promoted, Alfred really came into his own and started being a powerhouse. Sigurd has been his Emblem since the start. No one else can really utilize his movement the same way Alfred does.
Alfred also shocked me with his character. I already liked him enough for the goofy and entertaining meathead he was, but the second I unlocked his A-support with Céline, everything I perceived about him changed! He went from being just a fun and silly presence to one of the most tragic yet hopeful characters in this. Someone who, even knowing they have little time left, refuses to give up and continues to strive forward to protect everything and everyone he cares. Someone who doesn't ask for your pity and will always be put you first.
I couldn't have picked a better person to give the Pact Ring to.
Alflear for life, baby!
Tumblr media
Zelkov is a unit that started off good and continued to be good throughout the entire game. I've never been in a position where it felt like bringing him along was an inconvenience, even when there was no chest for him to unlock. Hell, for the longest time, he didn't even need an Emblem to assist him, but when I did decide to give him one, the Three Houses lords for him like a glove.
And God, I love listening to him talk! I had no idea what to expect out of him during the lead-up to Engage, but I am so happy with what I got. An enigmatic and mysterious yet sweet, caring, and helpful man who seems like an autistic coded goat on the surface but is just using his many hobbies to avoid dealing with the trauma of his childhood- that is right up my alley!
I'll do the second half in the next post.

Vanessa and Candace as God Teired Homestuck Trolls for the Summerstuck AU! Classpect Analysis below the cut!
Vanessa is a Sylph of Life. Sylphs are healers, but don’t let that fool you- they are more than willing to cause harm if necessary. Sylphs are strong, stable, and willing to do whatever it takes to help others. Sometimes that means providing first aid, but sometimes that means executing a dangerous enemy - the Sylph is very flexible in what help they can provide. Sylphs also tend to be the most mature of their friend groups.
Similarly, Life players are capable of healing, but their aspect is usually born of privilege. Life tends to cut their players a lot of slack from the offset, make things easier for their players, but this isn’t always a good thing. The higher you are, the farther there is to fall, and the harder it is to get back up. Jane fell hard in every timeline she had, and it was only in the timeline where she shunned her privilege and her family name of “Crocker” to start a family with the Egberts that she found real peace.
Vanessa is a bit more cautious and humble than your average Life player. She has her dad right there in front of her to show her what happens to those who fall, and as much as she loves her dad she knows to avoid his failings. And, in the end, it is Vanessa’s insight that gives Doof the ability to leave his past behind and start living in the moment - though it isn’t long before he falls back into old habits and starts acting in service to his future instead. And even then, Vanessa works to heal him again - it is Vanessa that encourages Doofenshmirtz to see things from Perry’s perspective and try to get back in touch with him after their falling out, after all.
Meanwhile, Candace is a Maid of Void. Maids are burdened by their aspect, and are filled with so much of their aspect that they become an overflowing resource. Their job is to take that insanely generous resource of their own aspect from within themselves and distribute it to others. But it’s hard to have so much of one thing, and it’s exhausting to give it to others, especially when you have so much of it that you can’t really stop it from spilling out into everyone else. Usually maids desperately want the opposite aspect, to find a balance they will never find.
Void is the aspect of obsession, addiction, a struggle not against any outside force but against yourself. They often find things disappearing around them, and are determined to have things they cannot fill. Equius wants desperately to be an archer, but breaks every bow he holds. Roxy wants desperately to be a mother and a daughter, but was born in isolation and will never be able to have quite the connection she’s looking for. Candace wants desperately to bust her brothers, by showing someone of authority the thins they create, but will never be able to.
Overcoming that one thing - that one obsession, that one addiction - is INCREDIBLY difficult, and usually other addictions arrive in the pursuit. Equius is addicted to milk and horses and hierarchy. Roxy is addicted to alcohol. Candace is addicted to video games and her phone, and above all else the insatiable urge to show people things, even when it cuts into her personal time and other relationships.
It doesn’t help that Candace is such a wellspring of void. Void deals in the existence and nonexistence of things, the nature of reality and what isn’t there. The potential for things to stop existing around Candace is so incredibly potent that she gives it a name, the “Mysterious Force,” and in the show’s late game learns to weaponize it. By season 4, Candace and the kids know that the Mysterious Force is THE fallback plan for if things go wrong, and in the show’s final episode, Last Day of Summer, Candace is even aware of things that DON’T exist in her reality anymore, even though nobody else does - such as Sporks, kakis, and her brothers. Candace is in fact able to communicate with those in the void, and finds a way to bring everything in it back into existence. Being a Maid of Void is an incredibly difficult role, but Candace is an INCREDIBLE Maid of Void.
Vanessa’s shoes are Heart Pink, because Perry is the player who helps her the most in the game. Candace’s shoes are Life Tan, because Vanessa is the player who helps her most in the game.

As a dream demon, he can be manipulative and he is always sassy in order to get what he wants. When he’s making a deal with someone, his greenish teal hand starts burning with light teal flames. As a siren, he plays with someone’s emotions and he’s ready to show off his singing voice and feeds on the positivity around him.

Spoilers for recent update:
I don't know about you guys but I just miss seeing Pen walking around and making his dumb noises whenever you engage with him. I think getting used to knowing he was just patrolling about and seeing it for almost 200 hours now brought a sense of consistency, in a way. If that make sense? So even people who didn't romance or get close to Pen still could observe that. Maybe that sounds silly to say because all the NPCs have their routines and what not but I think specifically in Pen's case I just got used to the protector of Sandrock doing his thing, pausing to engage and then returning to his duties. I like to imagine by Builder finds him to be (unintentionally) funny so it's sort of a nice pause to have before running around again.
Something I've been thinking about extra hard thanks to this post is that whole loyalty thing. I consider Pen's arrogance and doofness to be genuine to him, maybe exaggerated at times, just as much as I consider his recent side to be just as genuine. Because people behave differently from large to small increments depending on the context of the situation they find themselves in or those they are around, or even just depending on how they are feeling on that day. I think Pen being sharp with his role and therefore more serious about it makes sense in equal measure to him being an idiot in another situation he may be less familiar with.
But loyalty never seems to be an issue no matter how focused or not he is on something or someone. Which I feel like plays a role both subconsciously and consciously. He reliably follows the narrative he places upon himself and forces upon others and then proceeds to carry out that by spending day after day on patrol for the most part.
You can argue it's his character cycle and all the technical bits of it being just how the game design is. That's cool still. From a character writing standpoint and in immersing in the game, I feel like it adds even more to his character. It builds a reliance through repetition to know that no matter how idiotic, arrogant or rude he can be that he's still keeping true to his intentions. Or the intentions we are made to believe he possesses.
That stability is what I miss. Don't get me wrong, I love Pen's character a lot and miss more than that too. But I'm just realizing there's a different feeling to Sandrock without seeing him on his usual route. It really does feel like a loss.
Regardless of your opinion on whether Pen is someone who can be salvaged as an NPC in the game or romance option, or if he even deserves it... I still think it would be cool to see it happen and return something that I feel like is missing from the town.
That's just my opinion, though. I'm picky with redemption arcs but it doesn't necessarily even have to be considered that. It could just be character development arc that opens up new opportunities that could either keep him as an enemy and to never return, or to return if some criteria is met. My brain has so many possibilities floating around so that's a post for another day, or a fanfiction for another time.
Either way, thanks for reading this far!

So you are fan of Prof Doof?😃
Seriously, why they make him a villain? He was a good husband and father 😭
( and have sympathy for the captured platypus while don't know that's his enemy/frenemy)
I love Phineas and Ferb. It's literally my childhood and yes I do like door even though he appears way to much in Murphy's law.
