No one does revenge like The Count of Monte Cristo. It's all physical violence and murder these days, what ever happened to completely psychologically destroying your former tormentors and ruining their lives?

okay okay as per my last post: more snowjanus Jesus and judas parallels for the shits and giggles

Snow, just like Judas, betrayed the man who he was closest too, who showed him nothing but love and affection (often to his own detriment), for power and wealth

HOWEVER importantly, unlike Jesus, who knew from the beginning and continued with their relationship despite it, Sejanus chose to believe that Snow wouldn't do that, chose to trust in him and only realized the betrayal at his execution

AND THE FACT THAT BOTH JESUS AND SEJANUS' DEATHS WERE STATE SANCTIONED AND IT SYMBOLIZES SNOWS TURN FROM CARING FOR HIS FELLOW MAN TO CARLING ONLY FOR HIMSELF AND USING THE CORRUPTION OF THE STATE TO GET THAT (AND HOW IT COULD MEAN THE SAME FOR JUSAS (tho I could be said that he knew that Jesus would come back.... but I digress))

the way that in the movie they almost kiss in the arena..... the way that they were being watched, both by the more imminent threat of the tributes but also by the longer-lasting threat of the doctor..

and how it could be said that thats when Snow realizes the danger (in his eyes) that Sejanus posses... how the kindness he showed was what ultimately doomed him.....

GOD. THE THINGS I COULD SAY ABOUT SEJANUS BR3AKING THE BREAD (SO TO SPEAK) OVER MARCUS

and the fact that unlike Jesus, sejanus did come from a rich family, but he did experience the hardship of the districts, but Snow, who came from a poorer family (more like Jesus), he never saw what the pain of the districts... he was still capitol born and raised...... unlike Jesus (this is kinda less of a biblical parallel more of a contrast i noticed within the narrative)

the way Sejanus saw himself as almost a savior figure.... using his fathers power to help people... the way he differs from Jesus because despite his heart being in the right place, he only ever endangers those around him...

Y'all know what book Astarion would adore?

The Count of Monte Cristo.

A tale of a man who is forced to suffer for years upon years, only to escape his prison, find a wealth so grand that he becomes one of the richest men in the world, and get bloody, gruesome, satisfying revenge on the four people that ruined his life? With a happy ending where he finds a loving, devoted partner who adores him? That sounds like his dream.

Astarion would absolutely read it as a power trip fantasy and imagine himself as Edmond Dantes, especially if he managed to read it before the nautiloid.

I could see him comparing ascension to Edmond finding his wealth, and Edmond's transformation into the Count being similar to Astarion becoming a vampire master.

the disparity in kudos between a skk fic and a fic for literally any other bsd characters/ship :/

#like okay i get it skk is the most popular bsd ship by a longshot #but it does kinda suck that my skk fics will always end up being more popular than literally anything else i write for bsd #when i have way better fics tbh #okay i'm unleashing this from my drafts lol #like i get it kudos/hits/bookmarks counts aren't telling of how good a fic is #but out of my last five fics. my skk one has ONE HUNDRED kudos more than the next most kudos #and idk it also sucks that i know my skk is better than 90% of the fandom but. even my skk fics get significantly less kudos/etc #than big writers in the fandom who AREN'T EVEN GOOD #or are like. mid at best #i know in theory that the bsd fandom doesn't care about characterization but like. not only do they encourage bad characterization #it feels like sometimes they're actively against good characterization #even in j.jk and a.tla where there are major issues with bad characterization #more people seem to at least appreciate the good characterization. The end of The Sandman books really said "sometimes suicide IS the right answer" and "aspiring to be more than your career leads to catastrophic failure" and yet people call it a happy and hopeful ending...

Screaming crying scratching at the walls of my enclosure because it’s now somehow necessary to not just use social media but excel at it to even be considered for any of my dreams jobs??!?! Since when do I need 30k followers to be good at something other than a popularity contest?? Why does follower count matter to how good of an artist, writer, or general creator I am? I shouldn’t be required to know how to market and pander to the masses when all I want to do is create art! I just want to make things! I don’t care about selling them to the most people ever! I don’t care about notoriety! I’m a creator! I. JUST. WANT. TO. CREATE!!!

#sorry for the rant #it just makes me so mad that there is no more creation without gratuitous self marketing #I see so many posts from artists (tattoo artists especially) where they’re talking about not getting hired until they have 30k+ followers #this is insane!!! thousands of followers from all over will not directly contribute to your business outside of marketing #which should be the studios burden. not the artists #you want customers for your shop? Pay for an ad #it’s not your artists job to serve as your main source of marketing #the same with writing books #it used to be you turned in your manuscript- got chosen- and the publishers would market it for you #now it’s all about clout #your following #publishers are actually choosing books based on follower count bc they want a guaranteed sell #they’ll choose these books in favor of actual well written pieces bc the author had no following #it’s disgusting #the introduction of social media to the artistic process was insidious and cruel #you think this isn’t negatively affecting the quality of todays literature?#go look at the sun and it’s shade #horribly written book #no clear world building or any real sense of plot or genuine storytelling #but does it have thousands of sales! the author had thousands of followers on booktok #so of course it’s good!#right?#RIGHT?!?!
