You know how in Gallifrey, when Brax shows up in a deus ex machina way, its multiple times been a "There's an old legend or story that I learnt when I was a kid... what if it was true?"

And I've seen a couple headcanons around that headcanon him as a bit of a mythology nerd, or just a kid who liked stories because of this, he's always the one that brings up this possibility.

And! I remembered the episode "It takes you away" from series 11 of Doctor Who, in which when Thirteen is telling Yaz about the Solitract:

Doctor: "Its a... theory, a myth, a bedtime story my gran used to tell me." Yaz: "You had a grandmother?" Doctor: "I had seven, but Granny Five - my favourite - used to tell me about the Solitract.

And of course, with Brax being who he is - headcanon that it was Granny Five who told him all the stories. Perhaps he was particularly close to her idk.

Soooo after a LOT of issues, we finally got to begin season 11 of Doctor Who yesterday and I'm so happy! Rewatching the whole series gives me a new point of view on it, mostly because I'm more focused when I watch it with my partner but also because I grew up. I have particularly changed my mind on Clara and the last two seasons of Peter Capaldi, which annoyed me both at the time. Now I see why I didn't like some details, but I have learned to love the all thing. And it has begun with the 13th Doctor too: at the time I only watched the first two episodes. Now I am more than excited to watch the three seasons! I'll tell you my thoughts as we watch them. Episodes 3 and 4 tonight, can't wait!! 💫

i love you houses that confound and mislead. i love you the doctor falling into an inevitable trap despite jack’s forewarnings because she was always going to give the lone cyberman what he wanted, the story could never have transpired any other way. i love you unhinged threatening thirteen so full of compassion for a single historical figure that she risks the future fate of history itself to save his life — that’s the most doctor-y decision she’s ever made, short term kindness over long term heroic sweeping gestures no matter where that leads, no matter who it sacrifices (and it’s morally questionable in the utilitarianism vs personal feelings way; similar to some of twelve’s moral dilemmas, not in the shallow ass “guns are bad so we’ll just suffocate these spiders to death” way). i love you hyperbolic-but-accurate portrayals of the geneva squad authors and co. i love you the implied possibility of ghosts being real. i love you thirteen asserting her authority and committing a sneaky little telepathic time lord atrocity (showing percy shelley his death which incidentally gives a fictional explanation to his real-life obsession with death by drowning, which eventually led to his death by drowning. i digress) — something she hasn’t been given the opportunity to do before. i love you cybermen-as-the-inspiration-for-frankenstein. i love you “she was the universe”. i love you claire clairmont standing up for herself and realising what a manipulative prick byron was to her. i love you the haunting of villa diodati

imagine a suicidal teen who thinks that she doesn't have any future hears that there's literally no universe without her from the best person she's ever met. it feels so *right* for 13 to just say such a big and yet simple thing to someone who she doesn't know still struggles and to whom these words matter a lot. bc she told yaz she's important when yaz herself wasn't sure about this.

Honestly my biggest complaint about s11 is the lack of Historical costumes for the fam. There's just something about the Doctor's friends in full 'accurate' dress while they just prance around looking like a gay fever dream.

This really explains why so much of the acting during this era comes across as awkward and stilted, the scripts were often arriving so late that the actors had almost no prep time.

What I really don't understand is people hating on Chris Chibnall specifically due to certain episodes that *he didn't even write.* Like yes, he's the showrunner, he has power and is part of the decision making and choices, but a lot of these comments that I see against certain episodes, mainly Orphan 55 and Kerblam!, paint him as the writer, the villain who ruined the doctor by writing this story and these politics. He wrote this story. He did this.

But like, them - those two most hated stories (from what I've seen on Tumblr), especially Kerblam! from a political perspective - he wasn't the writer. A quick google search will tell you that

Before anyone comes for me, I'm not claiming that Chibnall is perfect by any means or absolving him of any responsibility to do with these episodes. I know Tumblr's media literacy can be... eh. I don't particularly like these specific episodes, although I do like 13's run overall, not my favourite, don't like everything in it, but who does for any monolith in dw. DW really is a mixed bag. I honestly really enjoy watching some of the episodes, they're such a vibe. 13 is in my top 4 doctors! (7, 11, 12 and 13 in no particular order)

Every series has some shitty episodes. Some are written by the showrunner, some aren't. But it's kinda weird to paint the showrunner as some kind of villain for these episodes especially.

So yeah! make valid criticisms, but also remember to like check who actually wrote it before flaming.

i wanna know the unit team interpersonal drama so badly. what happened between yates and jo, were they dating or were they going out to pick up men together or both? is the brigadier fucking yates AND benton or just yates? or are benton and yates hooking up? what percentage of unit is in love with the doctor and what percentage just wants him dead? who on the team has a weekly phone call with liz to make sure she stays updated on the brig and the doctors idiocy?
