In 2018, I had weird dream that Yugi's dad was a weird little man and highly skilled pizza maker.
And in 2021, I redrew some of those ideas again.
(old doodles below cut)
Tumblr media
The cherry on top is, there actually IS a pizzeria place run by a guy named "Mr. Moto" at least

I know this isn't my art blog, but I needed this one here, honestly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Based on the Yu-Gi-Oh fic, 'The Two Dragons of Destruction,' by Daisythebird on FanFiction.net and Ao3!!
.
.
.
The dad of the family!! Solomon, Junior, Yugi's dad, Gandora, the non-canon man himself!
Anyways, can you tell I cannot draw the Muto boys. And that I do not have a consistent art style of any kind. And that I can't draw hands. And that I have never actually posted my own creations here before. And that I have gotten almost weirdly attached to these parental OC's to the point I learned to draw the Junior, the dad, before I ever learned to draw the literal main characters?
That's my design of Yui, AKA Yugi's mom in the fic, in the last part of that mini comic there, except I only have a really vague design of her here.
Notes on my designs!! A mix of series canon, fic canon, and my own headcanons:
Junior is fairly tall for a Muto male, which leaves him at about an inch or two shorter than the average height of one his age.
I take that to be about a bit less than 170cm, or about like 5'6 or so.
Classic Muto hair, but cut short to just show black. Styled down, but judging by how the others' hair works, I figured short enough to only show black wouldn't be overly short... and it gives me a reason to draw more hair, honestly.
Scars cover the left side of his face, including one that goes through his eye, despite the fact he seems to be able to see just fine.
On second thought, that may have been the left from Yami's point of view in the fic, but.
Sharper and a bit rougher than Yugi in appearance, but still holds enough resemblance that I decided to put more into his eyes.
Long-sleeved shirts and jeans.
More red-based like Yami than the softer purple magenta of Yugi.
So I pushed the softer colours to Yui.
Who has a vague design but I have her hair white here.
Slightly short hair, based loosely on the mother that appears for like two seconds in the manga.
I am definitely not an organized planner when it comes to art, but hopefully, the idea still comes through.
This is such a disorganized first creative post, I'm sorry.
Er, so I'm not exactly an artist, but this has been a favourite fic of mine for a few years now and I just had to! I absolutely recommend it!

Time Traveler pt. 1
What would you do if you had been pulled back into the past? It wasn't just any past but it was your own past life where you had to live in it till you were sent back to your own time. Things may happen that in normal ways can't be undone, but if you were given a potion that everything that happens to you in your past life doesn't affect your present day self...what would you do?
I came to know this very well as I was an average girl or so I thought living in Cairo, Egypt. Dad invited his friends over from Japan to visit us in Egypt. Which is what led to my spiral into the past. I was just living my life like an ordinary teen unaware of the fate destiny had given me. My sisters always treated me like I was meant for more but they never said why.
Everyday was the same for the longes time till they came to visit. My dad went to the airport to get his friend and his friend's grandson. I told him we'd be at the hang out if he needed us. So I got my horse and met up with my sisters as we went on ahead.
"You seem on edge." Bre said
"I feel like something is coming." I said
"Something is coming, your future boyfriend someday." Nana Joked
"Not funny." I said
My sisters were everything to me as far as I thought I didn't need anyone else. We set the horses where they could eat and get free if they needed to. Not many would touch them but we always planned. I never expected what was coming in my life. That feeling was stronger today as we went hanged with my friends and I decided to go up on the stage.
Max's pov:
I am the father of four children, my oldest Aiden keeps his distance from my other children his sisters who are special in their own way. My 2nd oldest always looks out like something is coming and as a father I decide not to ask because I already know the answer to the question. She isn't sure what is coming but she can feel it.
Today she has been looking out more but today was my friend and colleagues visit. She went with her sisters to their favorite hang out by horse while I went to pick them up. As I saw them come out of the airport after I parked I offered to help them.
"Thank you, Nice to see you again Max." Solomon said shaking my hand
"And to you Solomon, this is your grandson?" I asked
"Yes, This is Yugi. Where are your children Max?" Solomon asked
"My daughters are at their favorite hang out and Aiden is off with his friends. Yugi, If you like I could drop you off where the girls are for you to meet them." I offered
"That would be nice." Yugi said
Yugi's pov: Mr. Petrova was a friend of Grandpa's but something was off with Yami. I could see him looking at Mr. Petrova like he recognized him for some reason. So Once in the car I decided to ask.
"What's wrong?" I asked
"He feels familiar. Something is coming and maybe we'll find the one for that bracelet." Yami said
"Right, Ishizu said you had a queen and that is how to find her." I said
The ride wasn't that long as before I knew it Mr. Petrova had stopped the car and I looked seeing the place. I carefully got up and thanked them before I walked in. The place was packed with teenagers and adults. I wondered how to find Mr. Petrova's daughters when I heard the sound of someone singing.
Yami and I looked towards the stage seeing a girl with brunette hair with purple highlights on the stage. She didn't seem very happy with her arms crossed over her chest and whoever she was looking at was the clear reason of the song she chose. A blonde haired male got up and she looked right at him.
"It can't be." Yami said beside me
"What?" I asked
"She looks familiar." Yami said
I looked at her seeing she was done with her song and going down the stairs. I saw the guy grab her arm and she turned faced him and pinned him to the ground without even trying. He seemed to like it but she went back to her table so I figured a way to get through but Yami took over for me.
Britt's pov:
I had just knocked Jake to the ground for the thousandth time in the time I've known him. He's so obsessive and annoying. I almost wish to be somewhere other than here. That thought I would regret soon enough but then I noticed someone approaching our table. He was tall, tri-color spikey hair and eyes I've dreamed of in my sleep.
"Hello" Nina siad
Nina, was a good friend and she was the one to talk first on strangers. The boy seemed unsure at first but he decided to speak.
"Hello, are you Mr. Petrova's daughters?" He asked
"We are." I said "and you are?" "I'm Yugi, he said I could meet you here." Yami said
I questioned if that was really his name as I was enjoying my drink but we offered to let him sit with us. We all talked and had drinks like soda and tea for those who wanted it. He seemed to open up and talk with us like everything was fine. I wanted a drink to go so I walked over seeing strange man in Robes as he approached me.
"Forgive me, but you have to fix the time line." He said
"Excuse me?" I asked
"You are the one, the one who was born the Nile Princess 5,000 yeas ago. The past is being threatened you must go back and fix what is being broken. Take your past life counterparts place after her death." The man said
I got my to go drink and looked at him like he was crazy. I wasn't no Queen and I didn't have a past life counterpart. He grabbed my wrist putting on a bracelet that I'd never seen before. As I felt pain shoot through me he took my to-go cup before I fell and held it. The pain was a test and I saw it glow on the eye as I relaxed.
Standing up I carefully got hold of my to-go cup as I checked to see if it'd been tampered with. I didn't see anything and I turned to walk away.
"You will fix the past, chosen Queen of the Pharaoh and take your place in your past life counter parts the moment she dies." The man said
"Pharaoh? I don't know any such thing." I said
"You're lying, you've sensed it coming for awhile." He said
I didn't want to admit anything so I went with everyone and we headed home. I walked with Yami talking to him as I had my drink. I took a sip as we walked and Heb nuzzled me. I thought it was odd but then I was still drinking the drink.
"Your horse, loyal companion." Yami said "Yes, he goes everywhere with me. I don't think he'd do well if I was gone." I said
"You enchant him." Yami said
"Enchant?" I asked
It was a weird to hear I enchant my horse but still there was more going on. So I was going to deal with it. Except for the fact that once I finished my drink and just before I fully made it home something opened pulling me back. I tried to hold on and Yami took my hand trying to hold onto me.
"Britt, hold on I'll save you." Yami said but then he saw the bracelet "It's you, you're the one I was looking for." "What are you talking about?" I asked as My hand started slipping
"The bracelet, you are the girl who fixed our past and was taken from me..." Yami said
I tried making sense of this but my hand slipped "Yugi!"
I saw him reach for me and my hand slipped from his and Heb stayed by him "Find me when you return!" Yami said
I didn't understand what was happening, what did he mean by fixing our past. I fell in the portal and I didn't know what was going to happen. All I knew was when I landed I was in sand and in front of a palace. I got up but it was only temporary as I was grabbed by guards and brought in the palace.
"Let me go." I said trying to fight but they were too strong as they made me kneel.
"Impossible." I heard that voice I'd heard tell me to find him when I returned and when I looked up I saw the same man only in royal clothing. He made a motion and the guards let me go.
I saw him walk towards me and he was taking in my facial features as he offered his hand to me. I hesitated but I put my hand in his none the less and yet he still looked at me.
"Same eyes, same hair, same skin tone." He said "tell me do you have a water drop birthmark?" "I..how did you know?" I asked
"It is you." He said then he took a look at my attire "and you have the same choice of style..only these clothes are strange." "You know me?" I asked
"Britt, it's not funny." He said then he put a hand under my chin and had me look at him and I didn't know what he was looking for but whatever it was he seemed disappointed. "You don't remember."
Britt how does he know I go by that nickname...and Yugi he said I'm the one to fix our past..but I have no idea what that means. Though the way he talked was like I've worn something similar before. I thought
"Pharaoh, are you saying this woman is our Queen incarnate?" A guard asked
"Indeed she is, but her memories have been locked." He said as he looked at me like I was expected to run and hug him. I didn't understand.
Before I could ask he led me away from the guards and I was going along with it just because there wasn't really anything else I could do. He seemed in thought as I walked beside him and I watched through a few things.
"Have we met in your time?" He asked
"Sort of.." I said as we walked "Aw man Heb is gonna go crazy without me." "Heb? You still have that horse." He said
That part was what surprised me that this Pharaoh knew my horse. Or at least he knew the name of my beloved horse. Which made no sense what so ever to me but he brought me to a room as he had me sit. I sat and noticed the bed was soft but as he was looking for something I noticed certain things about this room like for instance it was his!
Why did he bring me here? I thought
He pulled out a dress from where some things were hanging and he pushed me behind a thing to change without saying anything. I noticed he turned his back as I removed my jacket and everything else as I changed into the dress. It was two piece dress like my shirt and shorts and he was right it was my style. I noticed shoes of the era set where I could switch as I took a deep breath before changing and walked out.
"You may look." I said
When he turned to face me and his breath got caught in his thought I noticed something else. He was holding back tears in his eyes as I walked over and touched his cheek without thinking wiping the tears.
"Who has hurt you Pharaoh?" I asked
"My Queen, Brittania who liked to be called Britt. She was killed and I thought I'd never see her again until the next life but you're here." He said as he put a hand over mine "You are her. As my soul would know hers and her soul is your own. You are here for a reason Britt, even if you do not remember I want to help you. Starting with a proper introduction." He said
"Ok" I said
"I am the Pharaoh here, my name is Atem. What name is my lady given in her time?" Atem asked "and I am asking your full name." "Brittney, but I go by Britt." I said "And your family?" He asked
"Two sisters and a brother, loving parents, an annoying grandfather and the best five friends I could ask for." I said
"Bre and Nana? Akolm? Azeneth and Mirza? Maahes?" Atem said surprising me some.
"My sisters are named Bre and Nana. My brothers name is Aiden, my mother's name is Angela and my father's name is Max." I said as I sighed "but my grandfather is named Maahes."
Atem seemed to be thinking with that information as he paced a bit. Then he stopped and looked at me.
"the names are similar as is yours. Only more proving you are her." Atem said
I questioned a lot of things at the moment but then I heard the sound and a knock at the door. When I saw him open the door and he moved aside letting people inside as five girls rushed in hugging me. They looked just like my friends but I knew their names were not the same.
"Britt, we thought you were dead." Zahra said
"I'm sorry but uh I'm not your Britt." I said
The five girls backed up but looked at me in shocked as I did the best to stay calm. Atem cleared his throat getting their attention.
"She's the reincarnation of our Queen, from the future." Atem said
They were in shock but even I was in shock

Heart of the Vanguard Concept Chapter part 1
(Concept chapters are basically just to test to see if people will like a fic idea I have. This fic crosses over Yugioh Duel Monsters and Cardfight Vanguard.)
(Note: Besides the god cards this fic will stick to tcg/ocg effects for simplicity. People can also still stupidly set cards in face up defense position.)
Yugi double checked that he had everything with him before making his trip. He tiptoed out of the door he sweat dropped as he felt a fiery glare aimed directly at him. It was his grandfather Solomon Mutou holding a broom as he had been previously sweeping with tightly.
“You're not going to another card shop, are you Yugi?”, his grandfather questioned, remembering the invitation his grandson had received earlier.
“W-what…of course not grandpa. I’m just uh...going to hangout with my friends. You know Jonouchi and the others.”, Yugi replied nervously.
“Um hm...well have fun!”, Solomon replied with a wave before going back to sweeping.
After closing the door the young Mutou took a sigh of relief. He met up with his friends Jonouchi, Anzu, and Honda in the subway.
“Took you long enough Yug!”, Jonouchi said.
“Sorry, you know how my grandpa gets at the idea of us going to other card shops.”, Yugi replied.
“Yeah...reminds me of when we went to Duke’s.”, Honda replied, sweat dropping.
“Hopefully Jonouchi doesn’t end up in a dog suit this time.”, Anzu teased.
“Shut up!!! No one’s making a dog out of me this time!”, Jonouchi yelled.
“Better hope we don’t run into Kaiba on the way.”, Honda replied much to Jonouchi’s chagrin.
“If I see Kaiba I’ll wipe the floor with him!!!”, Jonouchi yelled.
“Guys the bus.”, Yugi pointed out as he saw everyone boarding.
They all hastily ran onto the train so they didn’t miss it. They took a sigh of relief as Yugi looked out the window. The buildings passed by like a blur. It always felt weird for him to leave Domino City. He always seemed to be off on some strange supernatural adventure every time but this time it was different. He was going to see friends. A definite nice change of pace.
After they finally got out of the subway they were greeted with a big expansive city.
“How are we supposed to find that tiny card shop in this mess?”, Jonouchi questioned.
“Well, we got there once. We just have to find where we are so we can find it.”, Anzu replied, looking over at the map.
“Maybe we're better off calling Misaki for directions. She has a perfect memory after all.”, Honda suggested.
“Oh, that’s right!”, Anzu gasped, as she brought out her phone and started calling her number.
The phone rang a few times before it was answered.
“Oh, Anzu. Are you guys almost here?”, Misaki asked, though there was an extreme amount of background noise.
“We're having a bit of trouble. We have just arrived outside the station and this place is a bit...big. I was wondering if you could give some directions to the shop?”, Anzu asked.
“Hmm...I guess the city is pretty big. Alright.”, Misaki replied as she started giving them directions.
They were astounded at how accurate it all was. She wasn’t even there but she was leading them perfectly throughout the city. On the way they stopped as they saw a familiar face.
“Gah, Kai?!”, Yugi gasped.
It was indeed the aloof fighter Toshiki Kai. Along with him was a blond haired teen with grey eyes. He wore the same school uniform as Kai. Jonouchi growled as he saw the older teen.
“You guys are here?”, Kai questioned, completely ignoring Jonouchi’s growling.
“Yeah, Aichi invited us to come over remember?”, Anzu replied and Kai simply nodded.
“Man, this is so cool to think we’d meet the King of Games in the flesh!”, the blond said.
“Hehe. I’m not that great, I'm just an average teen like you guys.”, Yugi replied with no hint of irony.
“Cool. Name’s Taishi Miwa. Looks like you guys already know Kai. Though let’s be real who doesn’t?”, Miwa introduced.
“Yeah. My name’s Mutou Yugi. Oh wait...you already know that.”, Yugi replied.
“Yeah...average.”, Kai replied blandly with a hint of sarcasm, rolling his eyes as he remembered Battle City.
“Well...average kid with an ancient magic necklace.”, Yugi replied awkwardly.
“Uh huh...you're just as ‘normal’ as Aichi and Ren.”, Kai replied, which made Yugi sweat drop.
“I’m gonna clean your clock in a duel!”, Jonouchi said to Kai.
“I don’t need another hyper kid like Kamui constantly challenging me to duels.”, Kai replied.
“Grr! I’m no kid!”, Jonouchi replied.
“Really? You sure act like one.”, Kai replied.
“Down boy. You can duel him at the shop.”, Honda said as he put his arm on Jonouchi’s shoulder.
“Hey I’m no dog!!!”, Jonouchi yelled as Honda pushed him along.
Eventually they stopped before a small card shop named ‘Card Capital’. It had a poster on the front and a sliding door. The small shop was completely crowded by people clamoring to get inside.
“Hehe, maybe Misaki can give grandpa some pointers on how to get his shop this busy.”, Yugi commented.
He jumped as some turned around to see him.
“Oh my god, is that the King of Games!”
“He’s here!”
“I thought he was taller?”
“Would he really be in a place like this?”
The door slid open and they saw Misaki on the other side. She had on a white dress shirt and a orange apron with two Cs.
“Are you guys gonna come in or will I have to give your spots to one of these guys?”, Misaki questioned.
“No need. Come on guys!”, Anzu said.
They all walked into the shop. It was just as tiny as they remembered. It was full of posters advertising various card games. It had lots of chairs and tables including two standing tables. The front desk had various card packs and there was a display on the other side with various assortments of rare cards. The shop was packed with various people dueling. It was rather lively for such a small shop.
“Is it always like this?”, Anzu asked.
“Nosy? Yes. Packed? Only when we host shop tournaments here.”, Misaki replied.
“You scoundrel!!!”, they turned their attention to a familiar voice.
They walked over to see Aichi and Kamui. The latter of which shook the former by the collar. Aichi laughed it off raising up his hands in surrender. A redheaded girl with blue eyes was trying to diffuse the situation. She wore a pink top with an orange tie and a blue skirt.
“Kamui calm down.”, the redheaded girl said.
Aichi sweat dropped as the younger boy continued to shake him.
“It’s fine Kamui. I think you’re overreacting.”, Aichi replied.
“Yeah, he just beat Emi in a duel.”, a teen with brown hair and eyes wearing a grey uniform replied.
“He just?”, Kamui questioned.
“Yeah…”, Aichi replied.
None of them seemed to notice them yet.
“You were supposed to let Miss Emi win!”, Kamui shouted.
“I was?!”, Aichi questioned, completely confused.
“I don’t get what the big deal is.”, Honda commented.
“It’s best if you don’t try to understand Kamui’s stupidity. You might catch it.”, Misaki replied casually.
“You say that as if you wanted Aichi to hold back against me.”, Emi replied.
“Well... I!”, Kamui was saying before he was cut off.
“I wanted to duel him at his best. Why would I want him to hold back?”, Emi replied, crossing her arms as Kamui shrinked back.
“It’s fine Emi. Kamui just got a bit overexcited.”, Aichi replied, brushing it off.
“Overexcited is an understatement.”, Miwa chuckled, making Aichi turn his attention to the new arrivals.
Aichi’s eyes brightened up as he saw them.
“Kai! Yugi! Miwa! Jonouchi!”, Aichi said.
“Are we gonna talk about how he called out Kai first…”, Honda commented as he sweat dropped.
The short teen was practically beaming which made Yugi blush. Though, he was at least taller than Yugi though not by much.
“No need to be so excited it’s just us.”, Yugi replied as he rubbed the back of his head sheepishly.
“Oh, that’s that Yugi guy right? Didn’t you duel him in Battle City?”, Emi questioned.
“Yeah, your looking at the King of Games here!”, Jonouchi said as he gestured to Yugi.
“Woah cool!”, Emi replied.
“Oh uh...this is my little sister Emi.”, Aichi introduced gesturing Emi.
“Sister?!”, the Yugi gang gasped.
Jonouchi bent down to Aichi’s level.
“Don’t tell me she has crazy psychic powers too?”, Jonouchi whispered, causing Aichi to sweat drop.
“Uh...no. At least I don’t think so.”, Aichi replied.
“You don’t think so?”, Jonouchi replied as he pulled back sweat dropping.
“Hopefully it doesn’t run in the family.”, Honda whispered nervously.
“Yeah…”, Anzu replied as she sweat dropped.
“Since your here do you want to duel, Yugi?”, Aichi asked with a light blush.
“Gosh, why are you always so nervous, kid?”, Jonouchi questioned.
“I’d love to Aichi! It’s time to duel!”, Yugi replied.
“He said the thing!”, a black haired teen with v shaped hair and brown eyes with a grey uniform said.
“Oh my god this is awesome!”, the brown haired guy from before gushed.
Yugi chuckled, blushing nervously at all the attention he was getting.
“Their like two anxious peas in a pot.”, Anzu commented.
“Are we going to duel in here. I don’t think the holograms would fit.”, Yugi replied as Aichi blinked.
“Oh...yeah that’s true. We were dueling retro style with the Battle City rules in here since there’s still a lot of people who don’t have duel disks.”, Aichi replied.
“Oh? Retro’s fine.”, Yugi assured.
“Okay.”, Aichi replied as he nodded.
“You guys should use the standing fight table.”, Shin suggested.
“Who wants to stand and fight without the duel disks anymore?”, Misaki questioned, making Shin sulk.
“Well, how was I supposed to know that Kaiba would build portable hologram systems to duel with?!”, Shin questioned.
“I guess we’ll sit?”, Aichi asked.
“Yeah.”, Yugi replied.
“Oh man this will be awesome! It’s like Godzilla vs Kong or Devilman vs Mazinger Z!”, the brown haired teen gushed, embarrassing the two.
“Heh, I could take them.”, the v haired teen proclaimed as he crossed his arms.
“Oh really why don’t we duel tough guy?”, Jonouchi suggested.
“Alright I’ll take you on 3rd place Duelist Kingdom guy!”, the v haired teen replied, causing a tick mark to appear on Jonouchi’s head.
“Hey it’s Katsuya Jonouchi!!! And it was second place! I lost to Yugi!”, Jonouchi corrected.
“Yeah, whatever 3rd place guy my name is Katsumi Morikawa! You will forever remember my name after the beat down your about to endure!”, Morikawa proclaimed, causing many in the shop to sweat drop.
“You're going to wipe the floor with him, Jonouchi. He’s the worst duelist I’ve ever seen.”, Kamui commented.
“As if! I’ll show you Kamui!”, Morikawa growled.
Aichi and Yugi sweat dropped at the conversation around them.
“Are they always like this?”, Yugi questioned.
“Would you believe it’s usually worse?”, Aichi replied, making Yugi chuckle nervously.
“I know that feeling.”, Yugi replied.
Kai and Miwa had seated themselves down at one of the tables. Some duelists had actually lined up to challenge the aloof fighter.
Yugi noticed Yami’s spirit hovering over his shoulder.
“Oh, it’s just a normal duel for fun Yami.”, Yugi said.
“Fun?”, Yami questioned.
“Yeah, it’s not always shadow realm and convoluted plots.”, Yugi replied.
“Oh, hello Yami.”, Aichi greeted waving at the spirit.
“Who’s he waving at?”, Miwa questioned, confused.

Puzzleshipping for the Coffeshop AU? Or Korrasami!
I haven’t finished LoK so Puzzleshipping it is! Forgive me, it’s been years since I watched the show and a life time since I opened the manga.
“Are you sure you can fix it,Grandpa?”
“Don’t worry, Yugi,” Grandpa Muto said with a confident smile. “It shouldn’t take long.”
Yugi looked skeptically at the broken coffee maker. They wouldn’t be able to get a band new one until next month. Kame Koffee needed a lot of appliances updated, actually. A coffee maker was top priority.
Grandpa unplugged the maker and disappeared into the back room as Yugi went back to cleaning mugs. At least the shop was slow at the moment. Likely no customers would show up until the lunch time rush.
As if overhearing Yugi’s thoughts, the bell over the door tinged and two tan men entered. Yugi sighed and lifted his head, ready to give them his small pity speech about needing to wait for coffee. The words caught in his throat.
One of the men was a few inches taller than Yugi, with a similar enough hair style that Yugi had to stare hard to make sure it wasn’t a mirror he was actually looking at. No,those eyes were way too intense to be Yugi’s. The man wore a sleeveless black shirt and navy vest, chain necklace,a silver bracer on one arm, and tight black jeans.
Behind him was another man all in black, with black sunglasses and an earpiece. He almost looked like a security guard.
“Good afternoon,” the shorte man said with an accent Yugi couldn’t place. “I would like two coffees, please.”
“U-Uh…” Yugi swallowed. “Um,I’m sorry but our coffee maker is currently out of order. Would you be okay waiting a few minutes?” He probably wouldn’t. This looked like a guy used to getting everything he wanted at a moment’s notice.
To Yugi’s surprise, the man nodded. “Sure. We have heard a lot about this place. The coffee must be worth waiting for.” He smiled at Yugi. His casualness abated Yugi’s nerves a great deal.
The strangers stood by the counter as they waited. The one who had spoken to Yugi even leaned his elbows on it. “So, what broke on the machine? I am good at solving puzzles. Maybe I could help fix it?”
“Thank you, but this happens a lot. My grandpa can fix it. He runs this place.”
“I see. That would be Solomon Muto? I have been told he makes the best coffee in the city. Do you like working here?”
Yugi beamed with pride. “Yeah! It’s fun to work with Grandpa. I get to test out new drinks and decorate the shops for holidays. Plus my friends stop by to hang out all the time so it doesn’t really feel like working. Sometimes during my breaks Grandpa treats us all to fresh cookies!”
It occurred to Yugi he might be ranting so he stopped himself with an awkward chuckle. But the stranger didn’t look annoyed. In fact, he was smiling softly at Yugi. As if he were amused. “A-Anyway. What do you do?”
“I’m the Prince of Egypt,Atem.”
Yugi started to laugh again, but then he took in the high class appearance, the accent, the bodyguard…
The door to the back room opened. “Ready to go!” Grandpa declared proudly, setting the coffee maker down in its spot. He patted the old thing. “Yugi! What do our guests want? We’re open for business!”
Red faced, Yugi turned to Atem. Atem smirked, and winked.

Personality: Heba is a very short tempered person with the mouth of a sailor. Not a word leaves his tongue that isn't some sort of insult or swear word. He can flip on the switch of a dime, go from having a nice polite conversation to a fireball of anger at something that was said. He doesn't have a lick of patience and only typically tolerates people rather than try to form close bonds. That isn't to say he isn't capable of doing that, quite the opposite. Heba makes a much better ally than he does enemy, fiery loyal to the end and would give his life in a second if he thought it would protect someone that he cared about. Though he isn't an overly affectionate person he makes up for that in being bluntly honest and protective of friends and family. He'll never say something he doesn't mean and words of affection, when given out, are rare and few in between. Skills/Talents: Heba can hunt with a bow and arrow, figure out rather difficult puzzles easily and can read and translate Hieroglyphics. Favourites/Likes: Tea, studying and learning new things,  Black Luster Soldier. Most Hated/Dislikes: Anything that requires patience, disgracing ancient tombs, people who he believes has the brain cells of a fish. Goals/Ambitions: His current goal in life is a little difficult to figure out. He's changed his college major a few times bouncing between what he wants to do. So far all he can figure out is that he wants to attend college, just isn't quite sure for what. Strengths: Art (fairly good at sketching), archery, history, deciphering old books, physical exertion. Weaknesses: Math, making choices (good choices), temper, doctors/hospitals/medical professionals, slight drug addiction. Fears: Medical Professionals, relationships (romantic or platonic), his grandmother, actually being diagnosed as crazy. Hobbies/Interests: Heba likes arts and crafts but specifically sketching, Ancient Egypt and Egypt's history, Duel Links. Regular Routine: He gets up in the morning, logs into Duel Links to clean out the standard duelists and keys while having a cup of tea and toast. After he heads off to school for his general education (as he hasn't decided his major) for a few hours of class. About two his lectures will end and he'll swing by the museum for a little piece and quiet. Around four he'll end up back and home for another hour of Duel Links until he makes dinner. Homework is stuffed in between eating, random google searches for entertainment and then after the dishes he'll end up logging back into Duel Links until it's time for bed. Between all of this his alarm on his phone will go off every six hours to take his medication. Philosophy of Life: Fuck it. Attitude Toward Death: At one point he craved it now he simply acknowledges it'll come eventually. Religion/Beliefs: None. Fetishes/Strange Behaviors: If his medication runs off and he doesn't take it he'll end up talking a bit to himself or something else that only he can see. He'll also switch languages a lot more frequently and stare off into space. Most Instructive/Painful/Memorable Experience: Growing up with his grandmother was an entire painful experience. The woman was only ever verbally abusive but the amount of doctors she dragged him to left a horrible impact. Sexual Preference/Experience/Values: Bisexual/had sex a few time. Education/Special Training: High School Diploma, Archery training (hunting wise), in college. Place/Type of Residence: Apartment in Japan near his college. Occupation: None. Place of Work: - Work-related Skills: - Past Occupations: Librarian after school in Egypt.
Biography:
Heba was born to the Mutou family in Domino Japan. He had one twin brother that he never got to know. As far as he is aware he was raised in the house until he was one before a custody battle was fought between his grandmother (their fathers mother) and Heba's own. The Game Shop at that point didn't bring in much money and their mother was a bit flaky in staying home. An old man raising two kids on such a small salary, according to Child Protective Services, wasn't the best home situation for what was going on. As a result they decided the best case scenario for the children was to split them. Yugi would stay in Japan with Solomon and Heba would be raised by the grandmother Amara in Egypt.
Perhaps, in some way, she did have the best interest of the children at heart but that didn't in any means make her an over caring woman. She was hard in the way she raised him, showed affection only when need be and lectured him constantly on the proper way he should be. Any child would look at her like she was the devil drilling him like a soldier but it only ever got worse when he started to have his little slips.
He was eight the first time it happened, Heba could barely even remember it now, but he started to hear this voice. It sounded amazingly like his own and yet different at the same time, the language was certainly one he wasn't familiar with though the similarity to Arabic was undeniable. From what he thought he had sat there for a while, just listening to it, but when he blinked his way back into reality he found himself in a completely different room with his grandmother staring at him like he was some sort of monster.
One event out of several more that happened.
Sometimes he'd find himself dreaming, thinking a little two hard on what he saw in his head. He'd lose himself in whatever it was and when he'd finally come back around he'd found he'd done something he probably shouldn't have. His grandmother said he'd scream sometimes, shout words that didn't make sense, even break things and that last one would always end him in incredible trouble—Amara either making him work to pay for it or forbidding him from leaving his room for anything.
It was hard to imagine what other people saw, or even to believe them, since it was apparently his own body doing it. He couldn't deny the lapses in memory, the odd little 'visions' and 'voices' he heard. Doing it in public at school apparently seemed to be the breaking point for it all though. At that point he had turned ten, scared an entire room of elementary students and was sent home with a clear order to find some sort of help for himself.
The amount of doctors between ten and sixteen and they finally put him on an experimental drug was intense... enough to even drive a person insane which ended up being the 'diagnoses' they came up with.
The first few doctors put him up anti-psychotics, another drugged him with psychosis pills, there was some liquid things thrown in there that made his skin feel like it was boiling from underneath. Being poked, prodded and drugged so many times lead to a fear so intense that his grandmother needed to have someone sedate him before they could do anything. He was sure it was mostly because he had stabbed a nurse with her own needle when she tried to inject something into him.
Heba, at sixteen, ended up in a medical ward where they started him on this experimental drug that didn't even have a name. His bottle was a series of letters and numbers that made no sense to him but whatever it was they drugged him with seemed to work. For an entire year he didn't have a lapse in memory, didn't have an outburst (aside from his usual ones) and didn't hear or see things.
They declared him cured and released him.
The pill bottle's recommended dosage was one every six hours but it also said to take as needed. As he focused on finishing school online he slowly started to find he was either developing a tolerance toward it or whatever was wrong with him was getting worse. So he slowly started taking more, and more, until it was one almost every three hours.
He found if he took them in close proximity he got a bit woozy and light headed so he tried to make it low. He wasn't addicted to them, he just didn't want Black Luster Soldier talking to him from the corner of the room again.
Never once did he tell his grandmother any of this though and when he turned eighteen he decided to head 'home' or what the home on his birth certificate said he was. Heba had long since learned of Yugi's existence, his grandmothers favorite insult was “maybe I should have left you with Solomon”, it didn't take a genius to look them up.
Yugi was impressive from what he noticed, a Duel Masters god according to the internet, and most of all sane. That last part was the most interesting one for him, apparently between twins sanity wasn't biological. Though he was curious he never reached out, never made a point to contact, he figured if Yugi wanted to know about him all he had to do was look at his own birth certificate and see the little check that wasn't single.
That didn't stop him from attending a college in Japan, from moving to Domino. Though he told himself he didn't care that was apparently far from the truth. But he wouldn't approach because that made a burden.
His college degree between eighteen and twenty-two changed from Teaching to Archaeologist to Egyptian Historian, to art until he finally just settled on getting a general education until he could decide. His grandmother had money, she didn't care so long as he took his meds and was a good boy.

How Yugi got his hairstyle
based on a 7AM headcanon and talk with @noscarstoourbeautifuls
Yugi wasn’t born with anime hair and wasn’t sure if he could even pull it off, cue Grandpa coming to the rescue! This got entirely too long (1,369 words).
“Doesn’t fit”
Yugi sighed and put a puzzle piece down, picking up a new one to try if maybe this one would finally fit the other. It didn’t, again.
One week till high school starts.
More puzzle pieces, no fits. How could that even be? Somehow they had to come together! Frustrated Yugi put both pieces down to rake his fingers through his hair. What was he doing wrong, why couldn’t he complete this puzzle? He had been trying for a good few years now, and still…
I wonder if I’ll find friends. I hope Téa will be there.
He stubbornly stared at the pieces scattered over his table as if that would magically solve the millennium puzzle. What he didn’t want to admit, or rather, what he wasn’t entirely aware of, it wasn’t the puzzle making him antsy.
What if they make fun of me because I’m short, or because I’m bad at sports, or because I love games?
The weather outside was lovely for early spring, only a few clouds covered the sky, birds were chirping and the morning dew was still drying. Idyllic morning or not, Yugi had woken up as anxious as the days before. The puzzle was meant to be a distraction.
I don’t want high school to be like middle school. I want it to be better. I want me to be better.
Another defeated sigh and Yugi picked up a different piece and started turning it in his hand. The familiar structure was somewhat calming and the cool surface a welcome contrast to his warm hands.
I want me to change.
He dropped the piece again and got up, aimlessly pacing around the room. There had to be something to distract himself. Anything.
What can I change though?
A knock on his door startled Yugi.
“Come in?”
He hadn’t meant to phrase it as a question but his nervousness got the better of him. Which was stupid, there wasn’t anyone in the house whom he wouldn’t want in his room.
Solomon peeked inside before he entered and huffed.
“Yugi, you’ve been up here all morning, didn’t even come down for breakfast. You okay?”
Yugi laughed sheepishly and rubbed the back of his head.
“Sorry Grandpa, I’ve been trying to solve the Millenium Puzzle again...”
For some reason, Solomon didn’t seem convinced, even though technically that was what Yugi had been doing. Instead, he put his hands on his hips and frowned slightly.
“That’s what you did yesterday and the day before that and the day before that too. I know you’re set on solving it, but if you ask me you’re trying to avoid something.”
Feeling called out Yugi flinched and immediately his grandfather’s expression softened. Solomon sighed quietly, crossed the room and sat down on Yugi’s bed, patting the space next to him.
Yugi joined his grandpa though he pointedly looked at the floor.
For a moment they sat in silence before Solomon cleared his throat.
“So, what’s bothering you? If it’s something your Mom or I can help you with, you know we will -”
“It’s not like that, it’s just… I… I’ve just been thinking, nothing much, really...”
“Doesn’t sound like ‘nothing much’.” He put his hand on his grandson’s shoulder and looked at him, waiting for an answer that didn’t come. What would trouble Yugi like this?
“Is it school?”
Wide-eyed, Yugi looked up and was met with an understanding smile. Talking about it wouldn’t do any harm, right? His Grandpa wouldn’t ridicule his fear. He swallowed and just let the words flow.
“I’m just, I’m scared I won’t find friends there and I wish I could change and be braver but I don’t know how, high school will start in a week and I won’t magically gain courage until then, so what should I do?”
Solomon didn’t answer immediately and rather thoughtfully looked through the room, looking for a solution Yugi didn’t believe existed. He did find a solution though, and, to his grandson’s dismay, didn’t think of telling him before storming out of the room in search of something.
Yugi was left, baffled at his grandpa’s reaction, his heart beating faster as he anxiously wondered if he should have told him after all.
Luckily it took Solomon only a few moments before he found what he was looking for – an old, wooden box filled with photos of his past.
“I know how you can change, Yugi!”, he said triumphantly as he returned, holding up the box.
“Huh?”
Solomon sat down again next to Yugi, handing over the photos. Hesitantly, his grandson started looking through them, wondering how pictures of his grandpa would help him change.
“Back in the day your grandpa was really popular, and of course it wasn’t just my talent at gaming and gambling, it was also my confidence! Now, that doesn’t come from nowhere, you’ve gotta practice being confident! The first step is to look confident, people will believe you are and slowly you’ll be -”
“But grandpa, how do I look confident? Normally, you look like it when you are, so I don’t know how that would work...”
Unfazed by Yugi’s worries, Solomon smiled conspiratorially.
“Your hair, Yugi. You’ve grown it out quite a lot, haven’t you? Enough to – here, hand me the pictures – uh-huh, wait, this one’s good!” He held up a picture of himself in front of the ocean, his hair in spikes and bleached strands complimenting the grin on his younger face.
Yugi leaned over, curious. Grandpa couldn’t mean that he should style his hair like that, right?
“You don’t mean I should get that hairstyle, right?”
“Why, you should! With a style like that nobody would think you to be scared, you’d positively radiate confidence!”
Yugi frowned, his shoulders slumping over as he played with a strand of his admittedly rather long hair.
“I’m not saying it doesn’t look cool, but isn’t it a little too eye-catching? What if people make fun of me instead?”
“I’ve had this hairstyle for well over a decade and no one ever dared make fun of it!”
“Then why don’t you have it anymore?”
At that, Solomon blinked in surprise. Why didn’t he? It had been his son telling him he might be too old for it if he remembered correctly. But now, maybe… He nudged his grandson, grinning again.
“Are you suggesting we both get matching spikes?”
“Wha- what? But, uh, I’m? Huh?” He couldn’t find the words, surely grandpa was joking, right? But then again, he knew that his grandpa sometimes got outrageous ideas and this wouldn’t be out of his league. Still…
“I’m serious! I looked great back then, and who’s to say we can’t both look amazing? I just wouldn’t bleach my hair, it’s grey already, not much potential for a cool contrast, right? I’ll help you bleach yours if you want, I know how to do it!”
Silence followed as Solomon waited for Yugi to answer, but his grandson pointedly looked at the picture he had shown him, twirling a strand of his hair between his fingers. Not that Solomon didn’t get it, the hairstyle really was eye-catching and his shy grandson had been all about not attracting attention for years now. But maybe he’d take a step forward, be more outgoing, and if it took only a new hairstyle and some solidarity, who was Solomon to complain.
After a few minutes with no answer, he decided to leave his grandson alone for a bit, if only to think about the idea. He coughed once and smiled as Yugi looked up hesitantly.
“I’ll leave you to think about it, just tell me if and when you wanna do it and we’ll go buy the supplies, right?” While talking he got up and walked over to the door, but before he could reach for the handle Yugi talked.
“Do… Do you think it would suit me?”
Solomon turned around again and looked at his carefully smiling grandson.
“I’d bet on it – and you know how good I am at gambling.”
~
Yugi looked at his newly bleached strands as he properly gelled them into place, a smile on his lips.
High school starts tomorrow. I’m sure I’ll find friends.

Some highlights from DSOD
Under cut! Spoilers.
Part 1
The Duel Links commercial before the show. Was so friggen CORNY! Could you not see Kaiba’s boner for Duel Monsters?
Nice opening with the gold like the Items and the swirling dimensions.
Roland is in it!
WTF is with Grandpa Motou’s voice? That was cringe-worthy.
Solomon asking Yugi why Tea didn’t come around any more to walk together to school. Yugi replies “Only little kids walk together, Grandpa!” with a little embarrassed smile, only to wave hello to a cat and get cutely bumped in the shoulder by Tea when they, heh, walk to school together.
Joey riding his bike through a busy sidewalk and the cop(?) saying. “Don’t you know the speed limit?!” with Joey’s reply, as he’s riding away “Nope! Going too fast to see it.” Cheeky bastard.
Tristan with his constant belief that it’s Ryou Bakura’s accent that gets him all the girls (while two giggling girls later at the mall go “he’s like movie star handsome!”)
Bakura is obviously annoyed by the fan club.
No one asks Bakura what he wants to do after they graduate.
But they do all accept that once high school is over, they won’t be together anymore. Even declaring that when Yugi’s game makes it big they’ll all get together to play it.
Interesting to note, Joey has some fun ideas of jobs and futures. A wrestling dummy, a Duelist. Good, creative ideas, while Tristan is severely grounded and accepting the work he has to do at his father’s firm. It’s a great play off each other and you can see how they both benefit from their friendship.
Joey asking “Am I crazy?” when asking why he can yet cannot remember Aigami and Tristan’s strangely sincere and gentle explanation. “No, you’re just dumb.”
They never call Atem “Yami.” Not once! The Yugi-tachi call him Atem and Pharaoh, Kaiba calls him Pharaoh.
Even the simple details like the fence on the bridge is amazingly gorgeous and pretty. Seriously, this movie is beautiful without taking away from the original style.
Joey jumping off a bridge and tripping a the bottom saying “That was on purpose,” breaks up the bullies that are baring down on Aigami.
Aigami has a smexy voice. Seriously.
“How do I know him but not know him?” Yugi, you have hosted an magic Pharaoh for years! Shouldn’t you be investigating this?! It’s obviously not normal!
WTF is a dirty water dog, Joey?
At the warehouse where Aigami is apparently supposed to get a beating, he just changes the tone of his voice and already the bullies are shitting themselves. “Do you have a wand or something?” one of them asks.
The warehouse scene at the beginning makes me think of Season 0. Good times, good times.
The bullies are disappearing, and one yells. “We’re history!” but Aigami corrects him; “No, history is remembered.” Burn!
We NEVER see or hear from the bullies again. I guess they were forgotten...
Well, except for the picture in the newspaper... but after that, that’s it. We never learn their fate.
The cathedral scene where Kaiba conjures Atem is amazing. I fangirled when Kaiba answers Atem’s question to why he’s there. “I didn’t bring you all the way here to ask you to dance.”
He did, Atem. Kaiba f’in wants to dance with you, vertically, preferably on a bed (though not required).
Kaiba’s inner monologue is enjoyable.
Kaiba to Atem on a move. “You set me up!” then a move later. “But I knew you’d set me up.” And he BEATS ATEM! Only to find out it’s a kick ass hologram science-y mumble jumbo.
Kaiba’s power and authority is SCARY. He could be an incredibly fierce super villain if he wanted. Instead, he reproduces the Pharaoh from memory, even his “perfectly coiffed hair.”
Ha! Yes, he says that!
But seeing this kid, Kaiba, that is younger than Yugi, who should be right now enjoying his youth and graduating with the others, is towering his authority over adults who probably shit their pants when he breathes at them.
There was a science guy that was in the series there, Scott Irvine. Was nice too see familiar faces. Pretty sure there were more that I missed.
Why was Duke working at a kiosk at the mall when he (or manga his father) owns a game shop? Or with Atem winning that duel way back when against Duke really mean he had to close down the shop?
Joey was, yet again, in a dog suit.
...and fired because a clown boss told him to stop clowning around and that selling ice cream is not a joke.
Also, Joey at Tea’s ice cream out of her hand! XD
Okay, but seriously, Kaiba was landing his plane in Egypt to meet his brother and his peeps and to see the Puzzle for himself, and he jumps out of the jet before it even lands! Like, who does that?!
Kaiba does, apparently. And two seconds after he landed, the jet touched down right behind him.
It clearly showed his manipulation of technology when he landed the jet with a simple clicker button.
Mokuba taking this all in stride. He still loves his big bro.
Can we just talk about how adorable Mokuba is in this? Because he is.
Someone (Mokuba?) tells Kaiba that it took Yugi eight years to assemble the Puzzle when Kaiba says he’ll do it in a few hours. Kaiba tells them “Because Yugi is a simple-minded child.” I snickered because it’s not true.
How the heck did Kaiba know who Aigami was and how to avoid getting hit by his magic? Is his tech now a combination of science and sorcery? In the six months since Atem’s been gone, how deep did Kaiba go to figure out what the Puzzle was about? Kaiba has clearly gone further than just wanting to find the Puzzle but to take apart the very essence of what it is. He doesn’t even question that putting it together will magic him back. He doesn’t question Aigami’s magic.
Not sure if that is 4Kids or what.
Aigami “You have your own collective of consumers and employees” when comparing Aigami’s Plana peeps and Kaiba’s peeps. I just liked that line so I added it here. XD
Kaiba; “You cower from power, I embrace it!” when Aigami ends his turn with four face-down cards and his weird cube dudes. I don’t play this game, but even I know these rules were crappy.
The Quantum Cube was OP, come on.
Seeing Blue Eyes and her variations in this new style was breathtaking.
Okay, so, when Kaiba is surprisingly down and is on the brink of losing, you see his heart call out to him in the same way Yugi or Atem call on the Heart of the Cards. He dramatically pulls out a card after he says “I will duel (Atem) again!” and comes out with “Obelisk the Tormentor!”
Aigami is shocked, and tells him that card doesn’t exist anymore! That he can’t play that monster.
Kaiba quips. “It’s not a monster, it’s a god!” and Obelisk punches Aigami in the face! Sorry Aigami, you might have a sexy voice, but you’ll never be a match for Kaiba’s... everything else.
The fight doesn’t officially end, but I guess Kaiba won? The box with the pieces of the Puzzle is ready for transport. Mokuba takes after his brother and hops onto the box as it’s lifted out of the Shrine of the Underworld by a helicopter. However, apparently Aigami doesn’t take defeat (or a duel) as seriously as Kaiba and even if he lost or not, tries to steal the Puzzle.
Mokuba headbutts Aigami. It’s great stuff. GO MR. MOKUBA!

New fic: A Wayward Crown
.Summary:  The pharaoh decides to join an everyday patrol on the great sea to the north of Egypt when their ship is suddenly attacked by mysterious people from the sea who have been terrorizing their coastal towns. Atem barely escapes them, having to dive into the sea and letting it carry him off. He's found wounded and exhausted by a young boy Yugi and his grandfather Solomon. Now, the only thing on the pharaoh's mind is keeping a low profile and getting back to Egypt as soon as possible and attempt to figure out the elaborate plot for his demise.
Mostly because I’ve randomly gotten back into Yugioh, and I love settings in the ancient world. Enjoy! I’m not really sure if I’m gonna put any kind of ships in it. I think I’m just going to stick with making the story for now.
The growing darkness of the great Northern Sea was what was in front of Atem’s eyes. His limbs felt numb and incapable of moving. When he attempted to move his legs to swim up towards the surface, he only managed a weak twitch of the muscles. The blade embedded in his right thigh didn’t help. Now, he was helplessly sinking lower into the sea. If anything, some strange creature of the deep would finish him off before drowning did. The attack had come out of nowhere from a mysterious people that not even his great kingdom of Egypt could hold off. It had been a regular patrol, and Atem ignored the protest from his advisors and joined it. It had been quite some time since he’d been out at sea. Watching the sails unfurl in the strong breeze and the glimmer against the sun were beautiful sights.
It started when a group of strange, unfamiliar ships approached theirs and instantly knocked against them, boarding without hesitation. The men who invaded were strong and merciless. Their muscled arms alone were easily enough to snap Atem in half. His guards fought bravely, swords clashing against each other. Backed into a corner, Atem drew his bronze sword. It was curved at the end, different from the swords the strange warriors brandished. Before he had the chance to fight back, one ran up and stuck a dagger right into his right thigh. It hadn’t been a lethal strike, making Atem conclude that they didn’t intend to kill him. They could have easily done so since they killed his guards off without a second thought. They could easily do away with the young Pharaoh too. What sent chills down his spine was that they intended to capture him alive, merely wounding his leg. What could possibly be their motive? These people often attacked coastal villages but not much more. Why did they want to kidnap a pharaoh? Perhaps they were working with the Hittites or various other enemies of Egypt. Whatever it was, Atem couldn’t allow himself to be taken by these brutes. A pharaoh isn’t one to give up. Before they could grab him, Atem dealt a swift kick with his good leg to the man’s stomach, stunning him for a few seconds before piercing his bronze sword through his shoulder where the armor didn’t protect him. Another had come up from behind and grabbed a fistful of his hair, his hand like a vice and undoing his braids. With gritted teeth and determination, Atem pulled the sword out of the man’s shoulder and flipped it to plunge it into the man behind him. With a grunt of pain, he finally let go of him. Now, he’d make his escape while he tried to pull the sword out. What did him in was smacking his back against the side of the ship in the process of jumping overboard.
Now, a ways away from the where the ship was, he found himself sinking deeper and deeper into the sea. Just as darkness was about to take over his vision, he felt something rough surround him and stopped him from sinking further. Not soon after, he felt himself being tugged towards the surface. From the rough feel of rope on his fingers, it had to be a net. Thank the gods. He must’ve run into a fisherman’s net by sheer luck or it was possible that it was the same men who attacked him reeling him back in. He prayed for the former. He didn’t know how long he had been floating around for, but he hoped it had been enough to run into a benevolent fisherman. Right before he reached the sparkling surface, everything faded into darkness. When Atem woke up, he was lying on his side. From the rolling feel and sound of waves crashing, he guessed that he was on a boat. It was hopefully the boat of someone who would help him. He could barely move out of sheer exhaustion and pain. As he opened his eyes, he looked upon a calm sea, the surface like glass save for a few small waves that broke the smoothness of it. They must’ve been nearing a port as he spotted many boats either coming back or setting out to sea. The sun made the water practically illuminate with varying hues from deep blue to light indigo, getting lighter and lighter as they neared the port. A sharp pain in his leg made him nearly cry out when he attempted to move. The rough feel of the wooden deck of the boat didn’t help as it dug into his skin at even the slightest movement. The dagger in his thigh may have been gone, replaced by bandages, but it still hurt. He risked serious infection without proper treatment. If he was in Egypt, it would have already been treated and dressed properly. Atem’s heart ached when he thought back to his home and people. He wondered what was being done about his disappearance. Did they think he was dead? Was he being mourned at this very moment?
“Ah, so you’re awake. How are you feeling?” a voice asked in Aramaic.
Luckily, Atem was familiar with the dialect having learned a few foreign ones. He hoped his Egyptian accent wasn’t too apparent.
“As well as can be expected. You have my thanks for rescuing me.” Atem had to be careful with how he spoke. He was used to speaking as a pharaoh. Now, he had to speak like a regular common citizen to avoid suspicion even in another language. He couldn’t even be sure that this man didn’t know who he was already.
“How did you even end up in my fishing net, young one? You could imagine my surprise when a young man was in my net along with the fish,” the man chuckled.
Atem managed to get himself into a sitting position and looked at the older man.
“Well, I suppose it’s kind of a long story..as you can imagine.” Atem took a sharp intake of air, suddenly remembering his hair as he brushed his fingers through it. His hair was the most unusual aspect of him that instantly made him different. Because of its tendency to spike upwards, he usually kept it in braids in the Egyptian style. However, the water and rough handling had left them loose and only partly braided. With one of the bands around his wrist, he combed his fingers through it to undo the braids and did it up in a bun, hoping that would keep it lowkey, though that wouldn’t help with the golden bangs. He was thankful that his pharaoh regalia had been washed away into the sea at least somewhat making him look like a common citizen. All Atem was thinking about was getting off this boat once they got to the port and making his way back to Egypt without getting captured or killed. The key would be to go about unnoticed, but first things first were his injuries.
“Yugi! Come back up here. We’re about to dock,” the older man yelled.
“Coming, grandpa! Hey, is that guy awake yet?”
Atem’s violet eyes met similar ones belonging to a young boy somewhere around his age he guessed. What was stranger was this kid had the same kind of hair, same style, and colors more or less. He had figured that he was the only one with hair like that. He also noticed that the boy didn’t seem to resemble his grandfather much, possibly adopted from some land far away.
“Oh, hello, you’re awake! I’m Yugi, and that’s my grandpa, Solomon. You gave us quite the surprise when we pulled you in along with fish,” Yugi said excitedly.
  “Yugi! The dock!”
  “Oh, right, sorry!”
Atem only nodded, watching Yugi scramble off to help with docking the boat. They both seemed nice enough and unsuspicious of him, though the grandpa had been rather quiet. If he could, he’d jump off and run as fast as he could if it wasn’t for his injured leg. For now, he’d have to rely on these two until he could at least walk properly. It felt humiliating to not even have the ability to run away. If they wished ill will upon him, there wasn’t much he could do.
“Yugi, you’re young. You help him walk,” Solomon said as he oversaw the fish being loaded into a cart. “I’ll meet you back at home.”
“Don’t worry. We’ll get your wound patched up better.”
Atem sighed and begrudgingly accepted Yugi’s hand. With a pained groan, he managed to stand up on shaky legs. He took deep breaths, leaning heavily on the other. How could one wound cause so much pain? Being submerged in the sea probably didn’t help along with the threat of infection. For the time being, he was completely at the mercy of his rescuers.
