Nostalgia & Memory: Plan

This week's assignment is titled "Nostalgia & Memory". For this piece I've decided to try and recreate something from one of the very first games I ever remember playing: Disney's Princess Fashion Boutique.

The game had a few different things to do, including dressing up a character, a storybook where you could design your own scenes, and a point-and-click section where you could find new items for dressing up or the storybook. Elements of each section of the game were different depending on which princess you chose to be your guide at the start (Aurora, Snow White, or Cinderella). These were all linked by a hub room inside the main castle of the game. It's this hub room I'm going to try and recreate.

I've put together a list of all of the assets I'll need to create or reuse from previous projects. I may try to include a couple of the interactive elements that are in the original game, such as the candle on the stairwell lighting and going out when clicked, but this will depend on how much time I have left after completing the scene.

-After stepping away from it for weeks, I finally finished AppleTV+'s THE NEW LOOK starring Ben Mendelsohn and Juliette Binoche as Christian Dior and Coco Chanel.

I held off on watching THE NEW LOOK because I kept unfairly comparing it to the exquisite Disney+ Espana series CRISTÓBAL BALENCIAGA. as both shows cover the same time period and Coco Chanel features heavily in CRISTÓBAL BALENCIAGA, with only a few appearances of Christian Dior. Both the shows are different in scope with CRISTÓBAL BALENCIAGA diving into the man and his designs, whereas the first half of THE NEW LOOK is about the toll the German occupation took on Dior and his family (with his younger sister Catherine, in the Resistance, being captured and put in a work camp) and Chanel's relationship with a Nazi liaison (played with fiendish excellence by Claes Bang).

The last half of the series stills deals in Chanel's collaboration with the Nazis and the repercussions of that, but moves onto Dior's trepidatious move unto having his own boutique.

The closest thing the series gets to a true homage to fashion is a look at the origin of Théâtre de la Mode which was a doll fashion show that took place at the Louvre's Marsan Pavilion. The episode ends with the names of the designers who participated in it and it just a stunning reminder of the legacy these designers - how their names live on.

What's your favorite fashion design game? Not dress up, but where you actually design clothes. I grew up with fashion based mmo games like girlsense, harumika, zoeys design academy and stuff like that and nothing similar exists anymore. And stardoll is dead and no fun anyway. Just wondering if you have any personal reccommendations!

I personally didn't grow up with fashion-based MMOs other than Stardoll, and mostly grew up with dress-up games, so I might not be the best person to ask this.

But if you want a dress-up game with a lot more customization on the clothes than usual, some Doll Divine exclusive games have just that! You can't make your own patterns in an interface that most MMOs have, but you can use combinations of sleeves, skirts, etc. to make a wide variety of clothing.

The old Flash games I could find that are somewhat similar (albeit much more limited) to the MMOs are probably Designer Dreams from Hannah Montana or Fashion Designer from MyScene, to name a few. There is also Disney Create: Fashion Painter, which is available on Flashpoint.

If you're willing to play old CD games, I've always liked games like Barbie Fashion Show, Disney Princess Boutique, and Disney Princess Magical Dress Up. They have all been uploaded by memoriesofthedaize on archive.org! :)

Operation Disney Princess Ladrien:

so I have the intro chapter and the Snow White chapter posted. The first Cinderella chapter is so close to being done!

I am trying to include Disney princess sequel movies, so Cinderella ii and iii, the little mermaid ii and iii, maybe the beauty and the beast Christmas special, etc. is it ambitious? Yes. Will it maybe take a million years? Also yes. But I feel like this has a lot of crack potential.

some ideas I’m particularly excited about are Sleeping Beauty (which involves dungeons and dragons, voodoo, and Ladybug slapping Adrien but it’s to help him, I promise) and The Little Mermaid ii (I’m thinking Jubilation baby hijinks)

Lots of identity shenanigans, love square is endgame of course, and djwifi is also prominent. I’ve been playing around with this idea since before I even got tumblr (2021), but I am so scatterbrained and slow. I won’t give up though!

as for the tinder au (I will think of a better name I promise):

so basically Marinette and Adrien are adults and this is a no miraculous au. Marinette and Adrien haven’t met before the tinder incident.

Marinette runs a successful fashion boutique. While she’s not opposed to tinder dates, she just doesn’t really prioritize a romantic relationship right now (mostly bc I wanted to keep Adrien as her first real love like in the show). She does, however, prioritize goofing around on tumblr and she makes the fateful post you did, not expecting anything of it. It goes just like in real life. She has accepted her fate bc Marinette is a woman of her word.

Adrien was able to get out of his abusive home and start over. He’s still famous, so he tries to be as incognito as possible. He set up a joke tinder account with Chat Noir as his alias. (Fun fact I’m actually banned from tinder, if anyone asks I will explain why.) Marinette’s bio comes up and of course he wants to know more.

You will have to wait and see the rest!!! (I’m admittedly trying to get something important done in my personal life; it’s a long process, but I think I’m getting to the end. However, I’m still excited about this and am trying to get it done as quickly but as high quality as possible.)
