dev organizes before moving!
hello hello, i've been a little absent on the writing front as well as the interaction front but i am here when i can be! i have a few posts explaining the what's and why's of that here and here
but long story short: dev got fired and is moving states!
i have been jotting down scene ideas and some snippets while i pack and get my life situated to the new environment in which i will be living as well as navigating the unemployment process as well as job application for the new area i will be residing in
commissions are open and any help to make the move easier are not necessary but greatly appreciated!
in the meantime i have been able to:
finish this commission for a fluffy frankie {coffee and candor}
ideas and plot outline for {buckles and barley}
scene placement for the last chapter and alternative chapters for {by the grit of sandpaper}
working on the last two chapters + epilogue for {the melting point}
and working on my original arc for {of beskar and kyber}
internet is scheduled for installation in my new residence on the 1st, so i am at my apartment finishing up the semester until then. but i will be able to navigate things easier from that point on! living with someone will def take the strain of limited mobility and medical stuff off my shoulders and allow me to feel more like myself

I'm sorry but for people who cheer on mass game industry layoffs because they think it's some kind of upheaval that is going to "topple the AAA industry" or "teach them a lesson": I hate to break it to you but AAA studios have a metric shitload of money and despite what their press releases say, they really aren't hurting as much as they'd have you think right now. Thousands of jobs lost is a temporary setback to them; if it was actually a last resort move they wouldn't have all simultaneously put themselves in a position where they had to do it in the first place. These studios have been around for decades and will continue to be around, and they will continue to operate just as they have for the last thirty years because they have huge vaults and no morals. They aren't learning a lesson from this because most of them saw it coming but would never admit that.
Know who is being permanently impacted by games layoffs?
It's the indie studio making sick ass games you'll never get to play because they laid everyone off when a publisher tried to save money by pulling all their funding. The hundreds of workers who woke up one morning and found out they suddenly have no job to put food on the table for their children. The international workers who were let go from the job that supplies their visa that helps them stay in the country. The thousands of students who now have to compete over a pool of a dozen job openings, who will work in studios where all the senior staff and leadership who would normally be there to help mentor them into their roles were fired. The disabled workers who now no longer have health or insurance coverage for their survival. The workers who didn't get laid off but survived to see all their friends and coworkers lose their livelihoods for completely arbitrary reasons and whose morale has all but been completely obliterated. The workers in the Global South working for outsourcing companies who were relying on cancelled projects from AAA studios to put food on their tables.
So whenever you're inclined to assume that the suffering of workers is somehow teaching rich people a lesson, remember that no, it doesn't actually and almost never will. All it does is teach thousands of talented workers in the video game industry that games were never - and will never - be worth it.

i emailed ghost support to be like 'hey have you considered creating an official theme with any useful features whatsoever for creators of multiple serialized fiction narratives'
p sure they're gonna say no and that i should try making a theme but it was worth a shot. i genuinely think there's a gap in the market right now because patreon and ko-fi both suck for publishing and organizing multi-chapter fiction. i cannot possibly be the only one who'd rather have my own damn website. ghost doesn't even have any good webcomic themes. that's nuts.

cora’s bad time hell simulation steps or how to play “sprite station for girl” “harvest moon ds cute” the wrong way
(all ways are wrong this game is Accursed)
ok so here’s what my disorganized “guide” to myself for harvest moon ds for girl (aka indecipherable notes i wrote to myself as i played and revised as i tested various things and restarted due to mistakes) looks like. at some point when i become a real gamer i will write a legible guide meant for eyes to look at but uhhh this is how i play this accursed game personally
i’m not sure if anything i wrote will make any sense since i wrote it as notes to myself so probably definitely use fogu and fc2 jonason wiki (may not work but some pages should be archived) instead
ALSO if you’ve never played or barely played the game it won’t make sense at all! hmds was my first harvest moon so i am used to various horrors!
my play style is probably not fun in general HOWEVER if you are a grinding hell goblin like me then it’s GREAT!!!! if not you may still find it amusing that the game gives you permission to play like this
(it’s a great background task game while doing like productive stuff but otherwise playing this way would probably be unbearable)

anyway after that the days go a lot faster, you’ll get the island on summer 1, so on spring 30 i put all my money into million G tickets and sell 200 of em, do the 5x money thing, and save the rest. so when thomas comes the next day to sell you the 900 million G island you can just sell 180 tickets and do the 5x money thing again with like ~600 million G tickets left over. it takes up inventory but you’ll get the shelf in a few days. basically you just need to remember to order from the TV shopping every saturday and place orders with gotz and gray whenever they finish stuff.
random tips
after unlocking the fuckass hot spring sprites (the ones that require you to spend a total of 700 1 hour sessions in the hot springs) i usually grind grazing points— if you put your animals outside for 5 hours you get a “Love Point”, but if you interact with them after they earn that LP then the timer switches over and you can get another LP after 5 more hours. if you wear the time ring the whole time it’s 2.5 hours. i’m not very good at explaining this but basically if you’re super efficient you can get way more animal LP than you realistically should, which is great because the touch glove petting minigame is Bad!!!!
i usually wait on getting the rest of the purple sprites (the ones that require you to hire the purple team and ask for healing) until i’m totally done with the indigo team, cuz i wanna get HG’s purple heart event asap, but you can switch the order if you want
by summer y1 you’ll basically have a feel for everything. aside from Skye, Leia, HG and WP everyone can be married early-mid autumn if you want
if you want to Gay (in the japanese version only) keira is the quickest to marry. leia is the quickest to max affection but it’s impossible to get leia year 1 because the bottle you need to fish up can only be caught in spring. you have to wait until at least year 5 for WP and iirc year 6 for HG.

i know this is a few days early but i'm about to be absent all weekend getting some essays done for school and trying to get ahead on my readings. it's been a weird month, not gonna lie. was really into getting a new series started and ending another but i lost focus and interest in the one winding down. which i hate, because i love my frankie fic but just feel so disconnected from it. anons and hurtful messages have messed with my vibes lately. it's been affecting my time here and i haven't been engaging much beyond likes. hoping april is much kinder ♡

Unfortunate Update Regarding the Games For Gaza Bundle on Itch.io
Esther Wallace (the creator and host of the Games For Gaza bundle on Itch.io which ran during late October-November of last year) gave an update about the status of the bundle. Unfortunately it sounds like itch has all but dropped the ball in terms of the payout, which has effectively been blocking the funding from reaching Medical Aid for Palestinians and, in turn, Gaza.

She also updated after posting the thread stating Itchio has finally gotten back to her after posting her thread in order to complete the process, but we will have to see how long it actually takes on top of this.

I've complained in the past about how I've grown hesitant over time to seriously recommend itchio as a platform because of situations with support around elements exactly like this.
It's already shocking the frequency at which Itch fails regular creators on its platform, with slow payouts and moderation that's barely present but like...the fact that somehow $300k worth of extremely time-sensitive aid destined to help people currently undergoing genocide manages to somehow just fall through cracks in the system is absolutely unconcionable.

I struggle a lot with rping without visual aid I can control or prompts so that game back in the day helped a lot, but I've also heard some awful stuff about the people who play nowadays as well as the devs just being dogshit and I'd like to know where I could find a better experience

People are now trashing on splatoon 2 after splatoon 3 came out, saying it was never a good game. Although many referred to it as a splatoon 1.5 throughout its course, I believe it still cultivated its own identity and introduced important things to the lore.
-salmon run (a co-op mode!) + salmonids being brought into the lore that links with octarians and their technology
-marina, an octoling idol with a squid partner, pearl (signifying changes in inkling society)
-off the hook in general being an experimentation with splatoon music and character design
-octo expansion (a new type of challenging gameplay; also humanizing octolings + octarians and their experiences (because we’ve only previously seen war from the point of view of inklings), expanding the Splatoon world in general)
-giving identities to the agents/player characters in the squidbeak splatoon (from interactions and dialogue between characters in the game, like marie with agent 4, or agent 3 with agent 8, we realize that these characters have an outline of personalities even though we are controlling them)
-x-rank being introduced as a step towards making splatoon competitve for players with that preference
-new weapons that really showcased the creative capabilities of the devs (bloblobber = long ranged bathtub, brella = shotgun with shield, dualies = dualweilding guns that introduced dodgerolls, making gameplay complex)
there is probably more, but that’s what i can think of at the top of my head. though splatoon 3 now seems superior to splatoon 2 in many ways with the quality of life improvements, splatoon 2 deserves some love for what it did to progress the splatoon franchise.

The coat of arms of Liebwald have received a glow-up! ☀️
In the backgrounds of Lovewood, I only ever vaguely indicated the coat of arms that featured the robin. For the new game, I wanted a more precise idea of what symbols it featured and how it was arranged!
Lore-wise, I wanted the coat of arms to represent the feeling of hope with which the fairies of Liebwald first settled in their new home - Having experienced great hardship, they started building a gentle future in the secluded forest lands. A place in the sun. 🌻🌳🌲
