FFS I've being denied access to the iron tournament AND being explicitally said that I cant use my fencing jacket because I've put a colorful patch on it. I have to take it off. I don't really care for the tournament because I had an inkling they would not let me take part in it, but my plan for the patch was feingning ignorance about them not being permitted
Please tell me, fencers wolrdwide, are you allowed to personalize your equipment in your club or you have to stick to certain colors, models and brands?
I am talking of esthetical stuff, like painting the mesh of the mask, putting patches on the pants, embroider the back of your jacket, choosing some bright color or fancy pattern for your socks, so on and so fort.
Reblog for bigger sample size etc.
We have to wear all black, stick to a small hadfull of approved models and get scolded for anything out of place. The only free for all are the shoes.

I’m going to a Renaissance Faire for the first time this weekend, and this is roughly what my costume looks like—a 1640’s soldier. So I decided to draw what the final ensemble looks like with some background.
The guy is standing in a common sword and dagger stance for Destreza, and the hat on the post is all chewed up because in the 17th century, fencing masks hadn’t been invented, so fencers would wear large brimmed hats and attempt to knock each others’ hat off instead of actually hitting their faces—at least ideally.

Thotty Purple Tieflings 💜😈💜 I was appreciating these three separately and then realized they all have some similarities... I think they’d enjoy each other’s company. The tall Hieronymous (he/him) belongs to @galaxa-13 The heart-horned Destreza (he/him) belongs to @ghoulgeists The languid Ataxia (they/them) is mine. (Since I can’t decide what mood I like better and I’m a sucker for duality, here’s two versions.)

Chapter 04: Rivals - Part 10
◀️ Previous | Next ▶️ | "Plague Rat" Masterpost
Time for a SWORDFIGHT!
This is the first fight that I've ever drawn in comic format. I've done illustrations and animation, but never a comic.
Here are some Fight Facts: My wife and our kiddo are both fencers, and their height difference tracks to DJ and the Headmaster perfectly! My wife (who also has stage combat and choreography experience) did the choreography back in December, and I filmed them going through it for the comic.
The Headmaster is using a fencing style called Destreza, which is a Spanish style known for being practically mathematical in its execution. It typically uses two weapons, a rapier and something else. Normally, the second weapon is a main gauche (short parrying sword), like you see here. If you've ever seen a Renaissance-era illustration of people fencing with a bunch of circular diagrams drawn around them, that's Destreza. There's a bit of a stereotype in rapier fencing that snobby types prefer (or outright dismiss anything but) this style, and yes, I'm playing into that. I even had another fencer who reads the comic look at this page's WIP and say, "Of course that guy uses Destreza."
On the other hand, DJ is using an Italian style that's particularily effective against Destreza! ^_^ My wife knows her fencing styles.

Destreza 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 24
WOAH HI HELLO... destreza my love... this is my main so for those unacquainted (i'm talking to you, 50+ porn blogs) this is him :)
Tumblr media
2. What do they think is their best feature? This can be both physical or personality wise. his tits your honor JK (mostly) real answer is he knows he has a pretty face and he uses it to his advantage
3. What is something they are really self-conscious about? probably the way he looks and smells lmao! above all else he will put extra time and effort into looking good and smelling pleasant, because anything less and he will feel like death is creeping upon him
5. What do they like to do in their free time? Do they have any hobbies? Do they even have free time? back when he had free time (lol) he liked to just lounge around! hang out with the family pets, sunbathe, etc, you know the drill. Nowadays he doesn't have any real free time, and any hours spent not working are probably spent sleeping instead :')
6. What is something they are absolutely hopeless at doing? Why? literally any normal household chore lmfao he can barely cook, he can't clean to save his life, laundry is almost a foreign word to him... he had house servants doing all this for him before so he never learned how to take care of himself lol (he's getting a little better, out of necessity)
7. Who is your OC’s best friend? How did they meet? fun fact in his campaign he did have a bestie! she was a moon elf and was just as slutty as him, they were childhood friends from noble families. since the game is dead though and i'm using him on his own, i can't say if he really has any best friends right now. Or friends, for that matter. the people who work alongside him are kind, but he wouldn't want to call them friends per se... he's keeping everyone he meets at arms length now while he focuses on bringing his last real friend back to life! i'm still thinking about how that arc might turn out teehee i kind of want it to end bitterly >:) i want to break his stupid heart.
24. What is your OC’s favorite food? Can they cook it? Where do they get their food? (And most importantly, do you feed your OCs enough? Don’t forget to throw them a meal once in a while.) slut for swordfish alert... no he absolutely could not cook it himself lol he'll get a freebie dinner of whatever's leftover from the tavern he works at but otherwise he has decided the most optimal way to save money is to not eat during the day. I'm sorry for starving him but like he still thinks if it's not from a restaurant the food is beneath him

The Movement of Conclusion
In This Scene
Chris: And that’s why they called it a movement of conclusion—because it concludes the fight!
Simba: I see…
Chris and André, the Swashbucklers of the Magic Kingdom, are the fight choreographers for all the Disney films, but they also do a lot of stage choreography for the Pridelands Shakespeare Company, which was founded by the brothers King Mufasa and Prince Taka/“Scar,” and is currently headed by Mufasa’s son, King Simba. Simba continuously tries to put a different spin on each production, and that means a continuous need for new fight scenes to fit his latest vision. Chris and André don’t mind at all—the PSC is their biggest contract and their working relationship has become a close friendship, a friendship that survived the Reign of Terror and weathered Scar’s turbulent Regency, and which may be Prince Kopa’s only hope of surviving the present storyline.
Here, Chris demonstrates the Spanish Movement of Conclusion, or grappling with the left hand. As Simba has just learned, this can be used to disarm an opponent, which means Simba needs to learn it in order to play Hamlet in The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, Act V, Scene 2, where the stage directions specify: “Laertes wounds Hamlet. Then in scuffling, they change rapiers, and Hamlet wounds Laertes.”
Behind the Scenes
Chris is canonically skilled in all styles of rapier combat, but I wanted him to have a specific style as a base. Originally, I wanted it to be Fabris, but then I decided on the Roman-Neapolitan style of the Marcelli family, to suit his cup-hilt rapier and turn-of-the-18th century aesthetic. But I’ve finally decided that I ought to write what I know, so now it’s Word of God that Chris’s base style of fencing is the Spanish school of La Verdadera Destreza, which is my main fencing style.
The Movement of Conclusion is the third and closest-range of the three canonical defenses in Destreza, and since it can be used as a disarm it becomes a plausible means of performing the sword-switch in Hamlet. As this article demonstrates ( https://www.cassidycash.com/hamlet-laertes-rapier/ ), Shakespeare and his audience knew swordsmanship, and they knew that disarms were common in the fencing system of their day. Therefore, when the stage directions say, “…they change rapiers…” Hamlet is meant to be portrayed as intentionally seizing the poisoned sword so he can kill Laertes with it, not flying into a mad rage and accidentally grabbing the poisoned blade. He doesn’t know it’s poisoned, but the swords should be blunt (they are referred to as “foils”) and the fact that he’s just been wounded by a sharp blade means Hamlet’s suddenly figured everything out—Claudius is trying to assassinate him with Laertes’ cooperation. After waffling the whole play, Hamlet finally acts and takes the revenge he was charged to take at the beginning of the play, even if his indecision has cost him his own life (and several others). Laertes now has no choice but to seize Hamlet’s blunt rapier to defend himself, and thus, “…they change rapiers…”
Also, Simba was hard to draw. I had to study a screenshot of The Lion King’s final fight for a while to figure out what Simba would look like standing on his hind legs for fencing.
